28 Avocado Drawing Ideas of Brunch Toasts, Guacamole Bowls and Silly Avocado Friends

23

Avocado drawing is one of those subjects that never runs out of charm: the fruit is already shaped like a face, a hug, a little wave, so it barely needs convincing to become a character. Grab your markers and a fineliner and you can go from breakfast plate to beach towel to yoga mat without ever repeating yourself.

Below are 28 small scenes built for marker fans who love food and a bit of story in every page: brunch tables, guacamole bowls, a pit falling asleep, an avocado on a skateboard. Work through them in order if you like, from the simplest toast to the busier market crate, or just pick whichever one makes you smile and start there.

Start simple and satisfying: a slice of toast with a scoop of mashed avocado and a poached egg sitting on top. Draw the toast shape first in fineliner, a rounded rectangle with a bumpy crust edge, then the avocado spread as a soft mound with a few knife-line texture marks, then the egg as an oval with a looser yolk circle inside.

Color the toast in warm tan and golden brown, leaving the crust a touch darker at the edges. Lay in the avocado in two or three greens, lightest near the center, and let the yolk sit bright yellow with a tiny coral-orange edge where it meets the egg white.

The easiest place to lose the drawing is the egg white: keep its outline loose and slightly irregular rather than a tidy oval, since poached egg never sits neat. If you do not have a pale cream marker for the white, leave the paper bare and just outline it in grey.

Finish with one concrete tip: add a few cracked pepper flecks in black fineliner dots scattered over the yolk, it reads as fresh and finished in seconds.

Palette: Sap Green, Goldenrod Yellow, Burnt Sienna, Cream

Give the avocado toast a neighbor with some personality: a single avocado half with its pit drawn as a round, smiling little character sitting right in the dip. Outline the half in fineliner as a wide oval with a scooped-out inner curve, then draw the pit as a smaller circle with two dot eyes and a curved smile.

Color the skin in a deep green at the rim, easing into a lighter yellow-green flesh toward the center, and keep the pit a warm tan with a touch of shading on one side so it looks round rather than flat. Blend the green transition while the marker is still wet for a smooth gradient instead of a hard line.

If the face ends up looking blank, nudge the eyes slightly closer together and raise the smile a little: character comes from small shifts, not from adding more lines. A brown colored pencil works fine instead of a marker for the pit if you are short on tan.

Keep one eye on proportion today: the pit should sit noticeably smaller than the hollow it fills, about a third of the diameter, or the face will crowd the bowl.

Palette: Hunter Green, Light Olive, Tan, Cream

Move from one avocado to a whole bowl of it: a rounded bowl of chunky guacamole with a few tortilla chips leaning against the rim. Draw the bowl first as a simple curved container, then fill it with a bumpy, uneven top edge so the guacamole reads as mashed rather than smooth, and add two or three triangular chips propped at angles.

Color the guac in mixed greens with small flecks of white and red left unblended for onion and tomato bits, and keep the chips a pale gold with darker toasted edges. Work the bowl itself in a plain neutral color so it does not compete with the dip.

The usual trap here is making the guacamole too smooth and flat looking. Fix it with short dry-brush style marker strokes across the surface rather than one even layer, which breaks up the color and reads as texture instead of a flat green blob.

If your bowl looks too perfect, that is the mistake: wobble the rim slightly and let one chip overlap the edge of the bowl for a more casual, lived-in scene.

A toothpick dipped in white gel pen can flick in tiny lime zest specks across the guacamole for extra freshness without extra marker layers.

Give the subject a little story: two avocado halves standing side by side, pits turned into round smiling faces, each sprouting two thin arms that meet in the middle to hold hands. Sketch both halves first as ovals of slightly different heights so they read as two characters rather than a mirrored pair, then add the thin stick arms joining in a loose grip.

Color each one in the usual green gradient, but vary the shade a touch between the two so they feel like individuals: one slightly more yellow-green, one slightly deeper. Keep the arms thin and un-shaded, just fineliner with a light flat color, so they stay secondary to the faces.

Getting the hand-hold right is the fiddly part: draw the arms meeting at a single point rather than overlapping fingers, it is simpler and reads just as clearly as linked hands at this scale. If your marker set runs short on two distinct greens, use one green plus a touch of yellow blended wet into one of the pair.

Try the quick ten-minute version with flat color and no shading at all for a card-ready sticker look, then spend the extra time adding a soft shadow where the two halves meet if you want more depth.

Palette: Light Olive, Forest Green, Tan, Cream

This one is about rhythm more than character: an avocado sliced thin and fanned out across a plate, the way it often sits beside brunch. Draw one long curved slice shape first, then repeat it four or five times with a slight offset, each slice a touch shorter than the last so the fan narrows toward one end.

Color the slices in a gradient from deep green skin edge into pale yellow-green flesh, keeping that gradient consistent across every slice so the fan reads as one piece rather than scattered pieces. A plain white or pale grey plate underneath keeps the green the clear star of the page.

The eye-level choice matters here: draw the fan from slightly above, almost a flat top-down view, since that is the angle that actually shows off a fan of slices, a side view just stacks them awkwardly. Light from one side lets you drop a thin shadow under the overlapping edge of each slice to separate them.

If thin, even slices feel tricky to draw freehand, trace a long oval template lightly in pencil first, then ink over it and erase the guide once the marker is dry.

Palette: Hunter Green, Light Olive, Pale Yellow Green, Grey

Step outside the kitchen for this one: a single leafy branch with two or three avocados hanging from it, drawn like a small botanical study rather than a whole tree. Start with the branch as one gently curving line, add a handful of pointed oval leaves along it, then hang the fruit from short stems so they sit naturally under the leaves rather than floating beside them.

Color the leaves in two greens, a darker one on top and a lighter one catching the light underneath, and give the avocados themselves a slightly pebbled dark green skin with a lighter highlight strip where the light hits. The branch itself can stay a simple warm brown.

Perspective is the thing to watch: put the light source coming from one upper corner so every leaf and fruit gets a consistent light side and shadow side, which is what makes a branch look like it is actually hanging in space rather than pasted flat.

If you want a fuller branch next time, add one small bud or an extra half-grown fruit tucked behind a leaf, it suggests more of the tree without drawing the whole thing.

Bring the character back with a beach scene: a round avocado body wearing a wide sunhat, sitting on a towel with maybe one wavy line suggesting the shore behind it. Draw the avocado shape first with simple dot eyes and a relaxed curved mouth, then add the hat as a wide oval brim over a small domed crown, tilted slightly for a jaunty look.

Color the body in the usual greens, the hat in a warm straw yellow, and the towel underneath in bright stripes of coral and white to keep the beach feeling cheerful. A thin blue-green strip at the very top of the page is enough to suggest sea and sky without building a whole landscape.

The quick ten-minute version stops right there with flat color and clean lines. The forty-minute version adds a small shadow under the hat brim falling across the avocado’s face and a few grains of sand texture flicked in with a fine dark marker along the towel edge.

If stripes feel fiddly to keep straight, draw them lightly in pencil first as evenly spaced guide lines before inking the towel.

Palette: Avocado Green, Straw Yellow, Coral, Sky Blue

This is a familiar kitchen sight turned into a drawing: a pit suspended in a glass of water with toothpicks, a thin root starting to curl down and a small sprout reaching up. Draw the glass first as a simple tapered cylinder, add the water line a little below the rim, then place the pit balanced across the top on three thin toothpick lines.

Color the glass with a very light blue-grey wash of marker to suggest glass and water without hiding the pit, and keep the pit itself tan with one soft shadow side. The root gets a pale, almost white-green color and the sprout a fresh bright green, both drawn thinner than you think they should be.

Edges matter most here: keep the glass outline clean and the water line slightly wavy rather than a straight ruled stripe, and let the root fade out gently at its tip using a lighter marker or a damp blending pen rather than a hard stop. No glass marker on hand is fine, a pale grey works just as well for that transparent look.

For an easy win today, add two tiny bubble dots near the pit in white gel pen, it instantly reads as underwater.

Widen the scene into a full tiny tabletop: a plate of avocado toast, a mug of coffee and maybe a small vase or a folded napkin, seen from above. Lay out the shapes first as simple circles and rectangles in pencil, overlapping them slightly so the plate sits a touch behind the mug, then ink each item with its own clean outline.

Color the toast in warm browns and greens as before, the coffee in a rich dark mug with a pale cream swirl on top, and keep the tablecloth or surface underneath a plain light color so the food stays the focus. A single small detail, like a folded cloth napkin in a soft color, rounds the scene out without cluttering it.

A bird’s eye view works best for a tabletop like this since it lets every item sit clearly without overlapping confusingly, so look straight down rather than drawing it at an angle. Readers who enjoy this kind of layered scene might also like the cafe table setups in messy sketchbook pages for more busy-table inspiration.

If the composition feels crowded, drop one item, three objects reads as a relaxed brunch and four start to compete for attention.

Palette: Burnt Sienna, Avocado Green, Coffee Brown, Cream

Let the character stretch a little: an avocado body balanced in a simple yoga pose, maybe a tree pose with one thin leg lifted and arms raised overhead. Draw the rounded body first, keep the face calm with closed, content eyes, then add thin simple limbs in a pose that reads clearly even at a small scale, a lifted knee and raised arms works better than anything more complex.

Color the body in soft greens and let a thin yoga mat underneath carry a contrasting color, a dusty pink or pale blue, so the pose has a clear ground to stand on. Keep the limbs flat colored with minimal shading since thin shapes shade awkwardly.

Balance is the tricky part of a standing pose: compare the width of the lifted foot against the body’s own width, it should tuck in close to the opposite knee rather than floating far out to the side, or the pose reads as falling rather than standing.

If a standing pose feels like too much, swap it for a simple seated cross-legged pose with hands resting on the knees, just as calm and much easier to balance on the page.

Palette: Light Olive, Forest Green, Dusty Pink, Tan

Bring in a different texture challenge: a sushi roll sliced open to show rice, nori and a strip of avocado through the middle. Draw the outer circle first with its dark nori ring, then the rice as a slightly textured band inside that, and finally the center filling with a visible slice of avocado alongside something like cucumber or crab stick.

Color the nori in a near-black green-grey, the rice in warm white with a scatter of tiny dots for individual grains, and let the avocado slice sit bright and smooth against the duller fillings around it so it clearly reads as the star ingredient. One or two rolls standing on their sides beside a lying one adds a sense of a small plate without extra clutter.

The rice dots are the detail that sells the drawing: scatter them unevenly rather than in a neat grid, since real rice never lines up, and keep them small enough that they suggest texture rather than becoming individual shapes you have to color one by one.

If black marker looks too flat for the nori, layer a dark green underneath it first and let a little peek through at the edges for a more natural sheen.

Palette: Nori Black Green, Warm White, Avocado Green, Crab Pink

Cool things down with a tall glass of pale green smoothie, maybe topped with a straw and a thin wheel of lime on the rim. Draw the glass as a simple tapered shape, fill it with a smooth, even green that is lighter than the fruit itself since a blended smoothie reads paler, then add the straw as two parallel lines crossing the rim at an angle.

Color the smoothie in a soft minty green with a touch of cream blended in near the top for that frothy look, and keep the glass outline crisp so the pale drink inside still has a clear edge. The lime wheel on the rim gets a bright yellow-green flesh and a thin darker green skin ring.

Getting a convincing froth line at the top is the fiddly part: leave a thin ragged white gap just under the rim rather than filling the glass completely to the top, which reads instantly as foam without any extra drawing.

No mint green marker on hand is no problem, mix a pale yellow and a light blue right on the page while both are still wet for a close approximation.

Palette: Mint Green, Cream, Lime Yellow Green, Dark Lime Skin

Give the fruit a small errand to run: an avocado character sitting happily inside a woven shopping basket, maybe peeking out alongside a baguette or a bunch of greens. Draw the basket first as a simple woven texture of crossing lines over a rounded container shape, then nestle the avocado and its companions into the opening, overlapping slightly so they feel settled rather than stacked.

Color the basket in warm tan and brown tones with the weave lines left as a slightly darker brown so the texture reads without over-detailing it, and let the avocado and its basket-mates carry the brighter color in the scene. A simple curved handle arching over the top finishes the shape.

The weave pattern is the one place this can get fussy fast: draw only a few crossing lines near the rim and let the rest of the basket stay a flat tan shape, since a little suggested texture reads as woven and a lot becomes a grid to fill in.

If a basket feels like too much structure today, swap it for a simple paper shopping bag with a folded top instead, much quicker to draw and just as charming.

Palette: Tan, Warm Brown, Avocado Green, Baguette Gold

Slow the mood right down with a sleepy little scene: a tiny pit character curled up and sleeping inside an avocado half, eyes closed, maybe a thin blanket line tucked over it. Draw the half first, then the pit smaller and rounder than usual, almost a baby shape, with closed curved-line eyes and a tiny content mouth, no bigger than needed to read as peaceful.

Color the avocado flesh in soft, slightly muted greens since a calm scene reads better in gentler tones than a bright punchy palette, and give the pit a warm tan with a soft blush of pink on its cheek. A thin wavy line or two above its head can suggest sleep without needing an actual symbol.

Scale this one down on purpose: the pit should look noticeably smaller and rounder than in a standard smiling-pit drawing, since a baby-sized proportion is what sells the sleepy, tucked-in feeling here more than any single detail.

Fans of small sleeping characters might enjoy browsing cute sketchbook ideas for more gentle, quiet subjects in the same spirit.

Palette: Muted Sage Green, Soft Olive, Tan, Blush Pink

Shift the season with a cozy character: an avocado body wrapped in a knitted scarf, maybe with a little steam cloud or a snowflake or two nearby to set the mood. Draw the round body and simple face first, then wind the scarf around its middle in two or three overlapping loops with the ends hanging down on one side, and add tiny mitten-shaped arms if you want hands.

Color the body in the usual green, then make the scarf the strongest color note on the page in a warm red or deep berry, with a simple stripe pattern of a second lighter color running across it. Keep the background mostly white or very pale so any snowflakes stay crisp.

Knitted texture is easy to overdo: a few short diagonal dash marks along the scarf is enough to suggest ribbing, there is no need to draw every stitch, and too many marks will flatten the bold color instead of adding texture.

If red feels too close to a classic holiday palette for your taste, swap the scarf to mustard yellow or deep teal, it keeps the same cozy feeling with a different mood entirely.

Palette: Avocado Green, Berry Red, Cream Stripe, Pale Blue

Build a fresher companion piece to the guacamole bowl: a salad bowl with avocado chunks, cherry tomatoes and a handful of leafy greens tossed together. Sketch the bowl shape first, then fill it with a mix of rounded tomato shapes, soft-edged leaf shapes and a few angular avocado cubes, overlapping them naturally rather than lining them up.

Color the tomatoes bright red with a small white highlight dot each, the leaves in two shades of fresh green for variety, and the avocado cubes in a slightly different, creamier green so they stand apart from the leaves. A thin drizzle line in pale yellow across the top suggests dressing without any extra drawing.

Compare sizes before you ink: the tomatoes should read as noticeably rounder and smaller than the avocado chunks, and the leaves should be the largest shapes in the bowl, since that size relationship is what makes the mix look like a real salad instead of a pile of random shapes.

If cherry tomatoes feel fussy to repeat, draw four or five and let the rest hide under the leaves, a full bowl does not need every piece visible.

Palette: Tomato Red, Fresh Green, Cream Avocado, Pale Dressing Yellow

Give the character some motion: an avocado body riding a small skateboard, one arm out for balance, maybe a motion line or two trailing behind. Draw the board first as a simple curved plank shape with two small wheel circles, then place the avocado body standing on top with knees slightly bent and arms out wide for balance.

Color the board in a bold contrasting color like orange or sky blue, the wheels in a plain grey, and keep the avocado itself in its usual greens with a confident, slightly open-mouthed happy expression. Two or three short curved lines trailing behind one foot are enough to suggest speed.

The forty-minute version adds a small drop shadow under the board to lift it off the page and a tilt to the whole board, nose slightly up, for a sense of motion; the ten-minute version just plants it flat and still and reads perfectly fine as a cheerful portrait instead.

If balance poses feel hard to invent, look at a photo of someone riding a board for the leg angle, then simplify it down to avocado proportions once you have the gesture.

Palette: Avocado Green, Bold Orange, Grey, Tan

Return to a calmer still life: a small wooden tray holding two or three avocado halves and a few lime wedges, maybe a tiny bowl of salt beside them. Draw the tray first as a simple rectangle with a raised lip, then arrange the halves cut-side up at slightly different angles so the scene does not look rigidly symmetrical, and tuck the lime wedges into the gaps between them.

Color the tray in a warm wood brown, the avocado flesh in the usual green gradient, and the lime wedges in a zesty yellow-green with a paler, almost white pith ring around the edge of each. A few scattered salt dots in white gel pen finish the tiny still life.

Light from one side does the most work here: let it fall across the tray so each avocado half has a clear highlight on its upper curve and a soft shadow pooling underneath, which is what separates several similar round shapes from each other on a flat tray.

If three halves feels like one too many to manage today, two plus a single lime wedge reads just as complete and takes noticeably less time.

You Will Need

• white gel pen

Palette: Wood Brown, Avocado Green, Lime Green, Pale Pith

Settle the character down with a quiet activity: an avocado sitting comfortably with a small open book held in two round little hands, maybe a cushion underneath. Draw the body first in a relaxed seated pose, shoulders a little rounded, then add the book as a simple open V shape held at chest height with a couple of short lines suggesting text on the pages.

Color the body in calm greens and keep the book itself in a plain warm color like cream or soft blue so the pages stay legible without any actual words needed. A small cushion or blanket underneath in a cozy color grounds the pose and keeps it from floating on bare white.

Getting the book to sit convincingly in round little hands is the fiddly bit: simplify the hands down to two small curved shapes gripping the book’s lower edge rather than trying to draw individual fingers, which almost always reads cleaner at this scale.

For a quieter companion mood, readers who like a calm little character at rest might enjoy the story-driven poses in friends drawing ideas for more gentle scenes to try next.

Palette: Avocado Green, Soft Blue, Cream, Cushion Coral

Add a little sympathy humor: an avocado half with a small bandage stuck crosswise over its pit hollow, a slightly wincing but still cheerful face. Draw the half as usual, then place a simple rectangular bandage shape diagonally across the center where the pit would normally sit, with two small cross-hatch marks on it to suggest a plaster’s texture.

Color the flesh in the usual greens, then make the bandage a pale beige or soft pink so it stands out clearly against the green, with the little red cross or dot detail kept small and simple. Give the face closed, slightly scrunched eyes and a small brave smile so the mood lands as funny rather than sad.

One hands-on trick makes the bandage convincing: lift a tiny bit of color out of its center with a damp cotton swab or a barely-wet brush right after coloring, leaving a soft pale streak that reads as the fabric’s sheen without any extra drawing.

If lifting color feels risky on your paper, just leave a thin unmarked line down the center of the bandage instead, a simple highlight does the same job.

Palette: Avocado Green, Bandage Beige, Soft Red, Tan

Turn the fruit into a dessert: a small glass cup of chocolate avocado mousse, maybe topped with a berry or a mint leaf. Draw the cup first as a simple short glass shape, fill it with a smooth dome of mousse rising slightly above the rim, then add the topping sitting right on top of that dome.

Color the mousse in a rich dark brown with a slight sheen highlight across its curved top, and keep the cup itself nearly clear with just a thin outline and maybe one soft grey shadow line to suggest glass. A single raspberry in bright red or a small mint leaf in fresh green gives the whole thing a pop of contrast against all that brown.

The usual flat trap is coloring the mousse as one even brown shape. Save it with a lighter brown streak swept across the top third of the dome while the darker brown is still workable, blending the two together for a glossy, rounded look instead of a flat circle.

No dark brown marker in the set is not a problem, layer a warm red-brown and a cool grey-brown together on the page for a close, rich mix.

Palette: Dark Chocolate Brown, Warm Brown Highlight, Raspberry Red, Mint Green

Bring back a savory scene with more texture to practice: a folded taco shell filled with avocado slices, a few other colorful bits, sitting on a small plate. Draw the shell first as a simple curved triangle shape with a slightly wavy top edge, then let the fillings peek out along that top edge, a mix of avocado slices, something red, something leafy.

Color the shell in a toasted gold with a few darker brown speckles for texture, and let the fillings carry bright, varied color so the whole top edge reads as full and colorful against the plainer shell. A simple round plate underneath in a quiet color keeps the taco itself the clear focus.

The eye level choice shapes the whole drawing: look at the taco slightly from the side rather than dead-on, since a side-on view is what actually shows the layered fillings along that top edge, a straight front view just hides everything behind the shell.

If filling variety feels like too much to plan, two ingredients, avocado and one bright vegetable, reads as a complete, satisfying taco without needing a long ingredient list.

Palette: Toasted Gold, Avocado Green, Fresh Red, Leaf Green

Let the character relax completely: an avocado body soaking in a small round tub, surrounded by a scatter of soft bubble shapes and maybe a tiny rubber duck nearby. Draw the tub first as a simple rounded container, then the avocado body sitting inside it with just the top half showing, head tilted back with a content, half-closed expression.

Color the water a very pale blue or leave it mostly white, letting the bubbles sit as a cluster of overlapping pale circles along the waterline, each with a tiny white highlight dot so they read as glossy rather than flat. Keep the tub itself in a soft neutral color so the bubbles and the avocado stay the brightest things in the scene.

The bubbles are the one place to add real texture today: vary their sizes noticeably, a few larger clusters and several tiny ones scattered around, rather than evenly sized circles, which is what makes foam look convincing instead of like a row of coins.

If a rubber duck feels like one detail too many, skip it, the pose and the bubbles already carry the whole relaxed mood on their own.

Palette: Avocado Green, Pale Blue Water, Bubble White, Tub Neutral

Pair up two very different fruits: an avocado and a lemon standing side by side as an obvious odd couple, maybe arm in arm or just leaning against each other. Draw the avocado first in its usual rounded shape, then the lemon as a simple oval with two small pointed ends, giving both characters matching friendly expressions so they read as a pair rather than two unrelated drawings.

Color the avocado in the usual greens and the lemon in a bright, cheerful yellow, letting that strong color contrast do most of the work of making the pairing feel playful. Keep both outlines the same weight of fineliner so neither character looks more important than the other.

Vary this pairing next time by swapping the lemon for a lime, a strawberry or a small pepper, since the joke of an odd-couple friendship works with almost any contrasting shape and color, and it is an easy way to get a fresh drawing from a formula that already works.

If drawing two full characters side by side feels like a lot for today, overlap them slightly so one arm disappears behind the other, it actually simplifies the drawing while making the friendship feel closer.

Palette: Avocado Green, Lemon Yellow, Tan, Soft White

Slow the pace with an outdoor rest: an avocado character lounging on a checkered picnic blanket, maybe beside a small basket or a wedge of cheese. Draw the blanket first as a simple grid pattern laid flat on the ground, then place the avocado reclining on top of it, propped on one little arm in a relaxed pose.

Color the blanket in alternating red and white or blue and white squares, keeping the lines straight and evenly spaced so the pattern reads cleanly rather than wobbly, and let the avocado itself sit in calm greens against all that pattern. A couple of small picnic props scattered nearby round out the scene without much extra work.

The checkered pattern is worth a quick measuring trick: mark evenly spaced tick marks along two edges of the blanket in pencil first, then connect them into a grid before inking, which keeps the squares consistent instead of drifting larger toward one side.

If a full grid feels like too much patience for today, draw the blanket pattern only near the front edge and let it fade into plain color toward the back, it still reads as checkered from a glance.

Palette: Picnic Red, White, Avocado Green, Grass Green

Bring back the beach mood with a cooler companion piece to the sunhat scene: an avocado lounging flat on a striped towel wearing small round sunglasses, arms behind its head. Draw the body first in a relaxed horizontal pose, then add the sunglasses as two simple dark ovals connected by a thin bridge line sitting right over the eyes.

Color the lenses in a glossy dark grey or black with one small white highlight dot in each so they catch the light, and let the towel underneath carry bold contrasting stripes in warm colors to keep the beach energy going. Keep the avocado’s own coloring calm and even since the sunglasses and towel already carry plenty of contrast.

The highlight dot in each lens is the small detail that sells the whole look: place both highlights in the same relative spot on each lens, upper left works well, since matching highlights are what make glossy sunglasses read convincingly rather than looking like two flat dark blobs.

If round sunglasses feel fiddly to draw symmetrically, draw one lens fully, then trace it lightly in reverse for the second rather than freehanding both from scratch.

Palette: Avocado Green, Glossy Black, Towel Coral, Towel Cream

Close the brunch and beach moments with a simple abundant still life: a wooden crate stacked with several whole avocados, maybe a chalkboard price sign tucked beside it. Draw the crate first as a simple open box shape with visible wood slats along the front, then fill the inside with a cluster of overlapping oval avocados at slightly different sizes and angles so they read as a real pile rather than a neat row.

Color the crate in warm wood tones with the slat lines kept a touch darker for depth, and color the avocados in a mix of two or three greens so the pile has some variety rather than looking like identical copies. A small chalkboard sign in dark grey with a simple price mark adds a market feel without needing any readable handwriting.

Varying sizes is the proportion trick that sells a pile: make the front avocados noticeably larger than the ones tucked toward the back, which does the work of suggesting depth in the crate without any actual perspective drawing.

If filling a whole crate feels like a lot for today, five or six avocados reads as plenty full, there is no need to pack in a dozen.

Palette: Wood Brown, Dark Avocado Green, Light Avocado Green, Chalkboard Grey

Looking at a photo of a real market crate for the slat spacing and the way fruit naturally piles unevenly will make this scene feel more believable than guessing the stack from scratch.

End on a quieter, hopeful note: a small potted plant with a thin avocado sprout growing from a pit, sitting on a simple windowsill with maybe a hint of a window frame behind it. Draw the pot first as a simple tapered cylinder, add the soil line near the top, then the thin stem rising up with a few young, slightly glossy leaves branching off it.

Color the pot in a plain terracotta or neutral ceramic tone, the stem and leaves in fresh, slightly yellow-green since new growth is usually paler than mature leaves, and let a soft wash of pale blue or cream behind the window frame suggest daylight without drawing an actual outdoor scene. Keep the windowsill itself as just a simple horizontal line.

This is a good one to revisit at different growth stages next time: try the same setup with just the pit and no leaves yet for one version, then this leafier stage, then a taller plant with several leaves for a third, which turns one idea into a small ongoing set as the plant matures.

If terracotta orange is not in your set, a warm tan or dusty pink pot works just as well and keeps the same cozy windowsill feeling.

Palette: Terracotta, Fresh Sprout Green, Soil Brown, Pale Window Blue

What to Do Next

Pick whichever avocado feels most fun right now, a smiling pit half is the fastest way in, and a market crate the most rewarding once you are warmed up. Start on smooth marker paper with a light pencil sketch, ink your outlines, then let the greens blend while the marker is still wet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What markers work best for avocado drawing like this?

Alcohol-based markers work best because they blend smoothly without streaking. Pair them with a thin black fineliner for the outlines and work on smooth, bleedproof paper so the color does not feather into the fibers.

How do I stop my avocado green from looking flat?

Blend two greens while the first is still wet rather than coloring with one flat shade. A lighter yellow-green near the center and a deeper green at the skin edge gives the flesh a believable curve.

How do I draw the pit so it looks round, not just circular?

Add one soft shadow along one side of the pit rather than leaving it a flat tan circle. That single shaded edge is what makes it read as sitting inside the hollow rather than floating on top.

What is an easy way to make avocado characters look consistent across a whole page or series?

Keep the same simple face, two dots and one curved line, on every character, and reuse the same two or three greens throughout. Consistency comes from repeating a small formula, not from varying the face each time.

Can I draw these ideas without markers if I only have colored pencils?

Yes, colored pencils work fine for every idea here, just layer and blend colors gradually since pencils build up more slowly than markers. Expect softer edges and gentler color transitions rather than the bold, smooth marker look.
