36 Christmas Candy Drawing Ideas in a Playful Sweet-Shop Maximalist Style

35

A christmas candy drawing is one of the most satisfying things to make this season, because every shape is round, striped or shiny and nothing has to look realistic to look delicious. Pull out your alcohol markers and lean into the sweet-shop maximalism trend: thick candy stripes, glossy white highlights and color stacked right up to the edge of the page.

Below you will find 36 candy scenes, from a single jar of mints to a whole pastel dessert cart, each one built to finish in a sitting. Scroll, pick whichever makes you smile first, and start there.

Start your christmas candy drawing with the shop window itself, because it is really just a grid of circles and jars waiting to be filled. Pencil in a simple window frame first, then three or four jar shapes of different heights sitting on a shelf line.

Fill each jar with a different candy: striped mints, red gumdrops, pink wrapped toffees. Work the background jars in lighter, cooler pinks and mints so the front jar can come forward in the boldest red and white.

The window frame is where this goes wrong if you draw it too thin, since a flimsy frame makes the whole scene feel unsteady. Thicken the frame lines with a dark fineliner once the marker is dry and the window snaps into place.

No window pane effect in mind? Skip the glass reflection entirely and let the jars sit on a plain shelf against a solid pink wall instead.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• alcohol markers in red pink mint
• black fineliner
• white gel pen

Palette: Cherry Red,Soft Mint,Bubblegum Pink,Warm White

Look at old sweetshop photos for jar shapes with wide round bellies and narrow necks, they read as nostalgic instantly and are easier to fill with stripes than tall straight jars.

Bring a figure into your candy scene with a girl standing at a counter, reaching for a candy cane from a tall glass jar. Block her out simply first: an oval head, a rounded coat shape, one arm extended, and keep her proportions loose rather than anatomical.

A handy trick here is to measure her head height against her coat length, about three head heights from chin to hem keeps a young, playful figure instead of an adult one. Color her coat in a flat pink or red block so she reads clearly against the busy striped jars behind her.

Faces are where beginners tense up, so keep hers simple: two dot eyes, a small curved smile, pink cheek circles added last with marker or gel pen. If the face feels off, a few extra cheek strokes usually fix it faster than erasing.

No figure drawing confidence yet? Draw just her mittened hand and sleeve reaching into frame instead of a full body.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• skin tone and red pink markers
• fineliner for face details
• white gel pen

Palette: Rose Pink,Cherry Red,Peach Skin,Candy Mint

Try this idea alongside the girl pencil drawing techniques in this girl pencil drawing guide if figures still feel tricky to place.

Ribbon candy is one of the most fun shapes to draw because it is really just a wavy ribbon seen from the side, stacked in loops inside a glass dish. Sketch the dish as a simple oval bowl shape first, then draw three or four wavy ribbon strips rising out of it like loose coils.

Work from the back loops forward, coloring the furthest ribbon in a slightly darker shade so the front loops pop forward in bright pink and mint stripes. A blurred green tree shape in the background, kept loose and out of focus, gives the dish somewhere to sit without stealing attention.

The ribbon shapes collapse into a flat mess if every loop is drawn the same width, so vary the wave size across the strip and leave small white gaps between loops for depth. Glossy highlights along the top curve of each ribbon loop finish the candy look.

Close with one tip: draw the dish rim first in pencil, then build the ribbon candy up and out of it so the scale never slips.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• pink red mint markers
• grey or green marker for background
• white gel pen

Palette: Candy Pink,Fresh Mint,Cherry Red,Pine Green

Reference real ribbon candy photos online for the wave rhythm, the loops are more irregular than you expect and that irregularity is what sells the shape.

Peppermint bark gives you an easy geometric subject: flat rectangular slabs broken into rough chunks, speckled with crushed candy cane bits. Pencil two or three stacked rectangles wrapped loosely in paper, with torn edges on the bark itself peeking through the wrap.

Color the bark in layered white and dark chocolate brown blocks, then scatter small red and white dot flecks across the surface for the crushed peppermint. The wrapping paper around each slab is your chance for bold stripes or polka dots in pink and mint.

Flat colored rectangles can look lifeless fast, so add a thin darker line along one edge of each bark slab to suggest thickness and a broken, uneven edge on at least one piece. That broken edge is what makes it read as candy rather than a plain block.

In a hurry, draw just one unwrapped bark slab with its broken edge and speckles, skip the wrapping entirely and let white space carry the rest of the page.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• brown and white markers
• red marker for flecks
• fine black pen for texture lines

Palette: Dark Chocolate,Warm White,Cherry Red,Candy Mint

Dot the red and white flecks on last with a fine marker tip or gel pen over dry chocolate color, dotting too early just smears into the brown.

Trade a single candy cane for a whole forest of them, standing upright like a row of striped pine trees with a tiny sled winding between them. Draw the candy canes first as simple curved-top poles of varying heights, spaced loosely across the page rather than in a tidy line.

Here the light source matters: decide the sun sits upper left, then keep every candy cane’s left side brighter white and its right side in deeper red shadow stripe. That single consistent choice makes a whole forest of identical shapes feel like one lit scene instead of a flat sticker sheet.

Tuck a small wooden sled low in the foreground, half hidden behind the nearest canes, and leave the background canes paler and smaller to push them back in space. Snow dots scattered with white gel pen finish the drift around the sled runners.

No room for a whole forest? Three tall candy canes and one small sled still reads as the full scene.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white mint markers
• white gel pen for snow
• brown marker for sled

Palette: Cherry Red,Candy Mint,Warm White,Soft Brown

Try this scene after the snowy settings in this Christmas scene drawing roundup for more ideas on building depth with a few simple shapes.

Build the gingerbread house as a basic house shape first: a square body, triangle roof, and a simple door and window block drawn lightly in pencil. Keep the walls a warm, even gingerbread brown so the real color payoff comes from the roof.

Cover the roof with a tight pattern of round gumdrops in alternating red, pink, mint and yellow, drawn as simple circles with a flat highlight dot on each. This is the ten-minute version; if you have forty minutes, add icing drip lines along every roof edge and window frame for a fuller, frostier finish.

The gumdrop roof turns to mush if every circle is the same size, so vary them slightly and let a few overlap the roof edge for a tumbled, generous look. A thin white gel pen outline around each gumdrop keeps them distinct from their neighbors.

Short on red and pink markers? Swap in whatever bright colors you own, the roof reads as candy from the pattern, not the exact hues.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• brown marker
• assorted bright markers for gumdrops
• white gel pen

Palette: Gingerbread Brown,Cherry Red,Candy Mint,Lemon Yellow

For more gingerbread house layouts and roof ideas, the step by step lessons in this Christmas drawing guide are worth a look before you start.

Turn the classic Christmas tree into a lollipop tree by drawing a simple cone shape, then covering it in overlapping swirl lollipops instead of ornaments. Pencil the cone outline first, loosely, then fill it edge to edge with circular lollipop heads on short sticks.

Give each lollipop a different swirl pattern: a tight red and white spiral, a pink and mint pinwheel, a solid candy color with a white outline ring. Working the swirls in pairs of contrasting colors keeps the whole tree lively rather than repetitive.

A flat pink background wall behind the tree is what pushes this into full sweet-shop maximalism, so block that in solid before adding any small details like a star topper lollipop. If the pink wall competes too much with the tree, deepen it slightly or add a few white polka dots to settle it back.

Once this works, try the same tree shape again covered in candy canes instead of lollipops for a different holiday feel.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• pink background marker
• assorted bright markers for swirls
• black fineliner

Palette: Bubblegum Pink,Cherry Red,Candy Mint,Warm White

Draw the swirl lollipops with a spiral that starts at the center and winds outward in one continuous pencil line before adding color, it keeps the spiral even.

A stocking shape is forgiving to draw: one curved boot outline, wider at the top, with a simple heel bump at the bottom. Pencil that in first, then fill the whole body with thick diagonal candy stripes in alternating red and white, like the stocking itself is made of candy cane.

Spill a pile of wrapped candies and mints out of the top opening, drawn as simple twisted-end ovals and round mints overlapping each other loosely. Work the stripes on the stocking before the spilling candy, so the candy pile can overlap the stocking edge convincingly.

Diagonal stripes commonly drift crooked across a curved shape, so lightly pencil a few guideline stripes first and check they stay parallel before inking in marker. A ruler is not needed, just a steady glance back at the last stripe before drawing the next.

If filling a whole stocking with stripes feels like too much, draw a plain white stocking with just one red cuff stripe and let the spilling candy carry the color.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white markers
• assorted bright markers for candy
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Bubblegum Pink,Candy Mint

Let two or three candies tumble past the stocking edge onto the page below it, spilling candy outside the main shape adds energy without extra drawing time.

Pair a simple bowl of red and white starlight mints with a cat curled beside it for a cozy, playful pairing. Draw the bowl as a wide shallow oval first, then fill it with a pile of small pinwheel-patterned mint circles, each with a tight red spiral swirl.

Keep the cat loose and simple: an oval body, triangle ears, a curved tail wrapped around its paws, sitting or peeking just over the bowl rim. A light grey or orange marker for the cat’s fur keeps it from competing with the bright red and white mints.

Round mints piled together often flatten into a solid blob, so vary their size slightly and add a thin shadow curve under each one where it overlaps its neighbor. That small shadow is the difference between a pile and a flat sticker sheet.

No cat reference handy? A simple sleeping cat shape, eyes closed, is easier to get right than one sitting upright and looking at the viewer.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white markers
• grey or orange marker for cat
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Soft Grey,Candy Mint

Browse the simple cat shapes in this cat doodle guide if you want an easier pose before tackling this scene.

Instead of one candy cane, bundle several together into a bouquet tied with a big bow, like flowers. Pencil five or six candy canes of slightly different heights fanning out from one point, then draw a wide ribbon bow wrapped around the base where they meet.

Color each candy cane with the same red and white spiral stripe but vary the stripe thickness slightly so no two look identical. The bow is where you can push pink or mint color hardest, since it is the single largest shape and sets the mood of the whole bouquet.

Crowded stick shapes like this often overlap messily at the base, so draw the ribbon bow last, right over the point where all the canes meet, to hide any awkward crossing lines. It doubles as the fix and the finishing touch.

Try this again later as a smaller bouquet of just three canes tied with a thinner ribbon for a simpler, quicker version.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white markers
• pink or mint marker for ribbon
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Bubblegum Pink,Candy Mint

Curve the hook ends of the candy canes at slightly different angles rather than all matching, it makes the bouquet feel gathered rather than manufactured.

Give your candy a setting with a small wooden sweet cart, striped awning overhead, sitting in a Christmas market scene. Draw the cart as a simple box on two wheels first, then add an awning of alternating red and white fabric stripes stretched above it.

Stock the cart surface with a row of small candy jars, lollipops and wrapped sweets, each kept simple since the cart and awning are already doing most of the visual work. A blurred suggestion of market stalls or fairy lights in the background, drawn loosely and lighter in color, keeps the cart as the clear focus.

Carts with wheels often end up floating above the ground line, so draw a simple shadow ellipse directly beneath each wheel before adding any other detail. That single shadow anchors the whole cart convincingly.

Short on time, skip the background market entirely and let the cart sit on plain white paper, it still reads clearly as a market scene.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• brown marker for cart
• red white markers for awning
• assorted bright markers for candy

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Wood Brown,Candy Mint

Look at real market stall photos for awning folds, a few simple scalloped edges along the awning bottom sell the fabric look fast.

Scale up the fun with a girl holding a lollipop nearly as big as she is, its swirl pattern becoming the centerpiece of the whole page. Sketch her simple body first, one arm raised to hold the lollipop stick, then build the lollipop head as a large circle above her hand.

Measure the lollipop against her head: making it roughly three times the width of her own head reads as playfully oversized without looking wrong. Fill the circle with a tight spiral swirl in two alternating colors, working from the center outward in one continuous marker stroke if you can manage it.

The spiral often drifts off-center or uneven, so pencil a light spiral guideline first and keep your wrist loose rather than gripping the marker tightly. A slightly wobbly spiral still reads as candy, a spiral that trails off the circle edge does not.

For an easier version, make the lollipop solid colored with just a white outline swirl rather than a full two-tone spiral.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• skin tone marker
• two contrasting markers for swirl
• black fineliner

Palette: Peach Skin,Bubblegum Pink,Candy Mint,Warm White

Rotate your paper as you draw the spiral rather than twisting your wrist around a fixed page, it keeps the swirl line smoother and more even.

Twist two candy canes together at their hooks to form a simple heart shape, a sweet variation on the usual single cane. Draw two matching curved hooks facing each other first, then extend the straight ends down and slightly outward to complete the heart outline.

Plate three or four of these candy cane hearts together, overlapping slightly, resting on a simple round plate drawn as a flattened oval. Color each cane with the same red and white spiral but let the plate itself be a soft pastel so the hearts stay the brightest element on the page.

The hook join is the fiddly part, since two curves meeting at a point can look pinched if drawn too tightly, so leave a small rounded gap at the top of the heart rather than a sharp meeting point. That little gap reads as charming rather than broken.

No plate needed if you prefer, scatter the candy cane hearts loosely across the page instead, like confetti.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white markers
• pastel marker for plate
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Soft Lilac,Candy Mint

This pairs nicely with a handwritten greeting, see the lettering ideas in this Christmas lettering roundup for a card version of the same plate.

A jar of sugared almonds gives you a soft pastel palette after so much red and white, a nice change of pace in the set. Draw a simple round-bodied jar first, then fill it with overlapping oval almond shapes in pale pink, mint, lilac and yellow, each with a faint speckled texture.

Work the almonds from the bottom of the jar upward, darkening the lower layer slightly so the pile reads as sitting inside the glass rather than floating. A lid drawn with a simple ribbon tied around the neck finishes the jar shape.

Too many pastel almonds together can blur into a single pale mass, so add a thin white outline around each oval and a tiny darker shadow where one almond tucks behind another. That outline is what keeps the pile readable.

Swap the jar for a simple paper cone or bag if jars feel repetitive by this point in your candy drawings.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• pastel markers pink mint lilac yellow
• white gel pen
• black fineliner

Palette: Pale Pink,Soft Mint,Soft Lilac,Butter Yellow

Dot a faint stipple texture onto each almond with a fine pen tip before coloring, sugared almonds have a slightly bumpy coating that flat color alone will not show.

Open a simple square chocolate box to reveal a grid of round truffles nestled in gold paper cups, a nice contrast of warm metallic color against all the bright candy brights around it. Draw the box lid first, propped open behind the tray, then a simple grid of circles for the truffle compartments.

Color the truffles themselves in rich browns with a few topped in white or pink swirl drizzle, and fill each paper cup edge with a warm gold or yellow marker. Working the gold cups before the chocolate circles keeps the gold from smudging under darker marker layers.

Flat gold marker alone often looks dull on paper, so add a few short white gel pen flicks along one edge of each paper cup to suggest the pleated, shiny foil texture. That small highlight does more than a second coat of gold ever will.

Pair this idea with the acrylic food painting techniques in this food painting guide if you want to push the chocolates into a painted version later.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• brown markers
• gold or yellow marker
• white gel pen

Palette: Dark Chocolate,Warm Gold,Warm White,Bubblegum Pink

Leave the box lid lid interior a plain cream color rather than patterned, a busy lid competes with the truffles for attention.

Build a wreath shape the easy way: draw a simple circle ring first, then cover it entirely with small candies instead of greenery, wrapped sweets, mints and tiny candy canes all packed together around the ring. Keep the inner and outer edge of the ring roughly even so the wreath holds its circular shape under all the detail.

Vary the candy types around the ring, a few wrapped toffees here, a cluster of mints there, a candy cane or two tucked in, so no single section repeats a pattern too long. A big bow at the top or bottom of the wreath, drawn last, covers any awkward gaps where the ring joins.

Packed circular shapes like this tend to lose their round silhouette once filled with detail, so keep glancing at the overall circle outline as you add candies rather than only looking at each piece up close. Step back from the page often.

A simplified version works just as well: use only two or three candy types repeated steadily around the ring instead of many different ones.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• assorted bright markers
• red marker for bow
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Candy Mint,Bubblegum Pink,Warm White

Sketch the wreath ring with a plate or lid traced twice at different sizes for the inner and outer edge, it keeps the ring width even all the way round.

Step away from hard candy for a moment with a simple mug of cocoa, marshmallows floating on top, steam curling up from the surface. Draw the mug first as a simple rounded shape with a handle, then the cocoa surface as a flattened ellipse near the rim.

Scatter three or four marshmallow shapes on the cocoa surface, drawn as soft rounded squares, with a thin line of brown marker where each one sinks slightly into the liquid. Add a few loose curved lines rising from the mug for steam, kept light and wispy rather than solid.

Marshmallows often look flat if drawn as plain white squares, so shade one side of each with the faintest grey or warm brown and add a small white gel pen highlight on the opposite corner. That tiny contrast gives them volume.

No marker for steam lines? A white colored pencil over the background works just as well for a soft wispy effect.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• brown marker for cocoa
• white or cream marker for marshmallows
• grey marker for shading

Palette: Rich Cocoa,Warm White,Soft Grey,Candy Mint

For a cozier companion piece, the warm drinks and fireside scenes in this Christmas aesthetic drawing guide pair well beside this one.

String a garland of small candies across the top of a window frame, a decorative line that lets you repeat a few candy shapes in a satisfying row. Draw a simple window outline first, then a loose draping curve from one top corner to the other for the garland string.

Thread wrapped candies, small candy canes and round mints along the curve, keeping them close enough together that the string itself barely shows. Color the window glass a pale blue or grey behind the garland so the bright candy colors sit forward clearly against it.

Garlands often end up looking stiff if every candy sits at the same angle, so rotate each piece slightly along the drooping curve of the string to match how it would actually hang. That small variation makes the whole garland feel like it has weight.

Try the same garland idea strung along a mantel or staircase bannister next time for a different setting.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• assorted bright markers
• pale blue or grey marker for glass
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Candy Mint,Bubblegum Pink,Pale Sky

Draw the drooping garland string as two curves close together rather than one, it reads instantly as a cord with weight on it rather than a flat line.

Give the gingerbread house trend a twist with a house built entirely of candy, bricks made of wrapped sweets, and a small dog peeking out of the front door. Draw the house shape first, then fill the walls with a repeating pattern of small candy rectangles instead of gingerbread.

Place the dog low in the open doorway, just its head and front paws visible, drawn with simple rounded shapes and big friendly eyes. Keep the dog in natural browns or greys so it reads clearly against all the bright candy walls surrounding it.

A fully patterned candy house can get visually noisy fast, so give the roof a single simpler color block, like solid red with white trim, so the eye has somewhere to rest. That contrast between busy walls and calm roof balances the page.

If dog proportions feel tricky, the simple poses in this dog doodle guide are a gentle place to practice first.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• assorted bright markers
• brown or grey marker for dog
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Candy Mint,Warm White,Soft Brown

Keep the dog’s eyes slightly larger than realistic and set a bit low on the face, it reads as friendly and young instantly in a simple cartoon style.

Twist a candy cane shape into a reindeer by using its curved hook as the head and antlers, a fun visual pun that still only needs basic candy cane drawing skills. Draw the main candy cane body first, straight with the familiar hook top, then add two small branching antler shapes to the hook.

Give it two small dot eyes and a round red nose near the top curve, plus four thin stick legs along the bottom of the straight body. Keep the red and white spiral stripe running the full length of the body so it still clearly reads as candy first, reindeer second.

The antlers are the trickiest new shape here, so keep them simple: two or three short branching lines rather than a fully detailed antler rack, which can overwhelm the small hook they are attached to. Simpler almost always reads better at this scale.

Once this works, line up three or four of these candy cane reindeer in a row pulling a tiny sled for a fuller scene.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white markers
• brown marker for antlers and legs
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Soft Brown,Candy Mint

Add the red nose as the very last mark with a gel pen or fine marker dot, a slightly off-center nose actually adds charm rather than looking like a mistake.

Fill a simple jar shape with a rainbow of gummy bears, a subject that rewards bold flat color blocking more than fine detail. Draw the jar outline first, then a loose grid of small bear shapes inside it, each a rounded body with two ears and short limbs.

Color every bear a different bright candy hue, red, orange, yellow, mint, pink, purple, so the whole jar reads as a color wheel packed into glass. Leave a thin white gap between each bear so the colors stay distinct rather than blending into neighboring shapes.

Gummy bears look flat and waxy without one simple trick: add a small white gel pen highlight dot on the upper body of each bear, where light would catch its glossy surface. That single dot per bear is what sells the candy shine.

No room for a dozen bears? Six or seven, loosely scattered rather than gridded, still fills the jar convincingly.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• assorted bright markers
• white gel pen
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Sunny Orange,Candy Mint,Grape Purple

Try layering two shades of the same color on a couple of bears for extra gloss, a darker base color with a lighter marker stroke down the center mimics real gummy shine.

Color a whole Christmas tree in candy shades instead of green, with big bows tied at intervals up the trunk line, a fun departure from the usual pine tones. Draw the familiar triangular tree shape first, then block in alternating horizontal bands of pink, mint and soft red up the body instead of solid green.

Tie a simple ribbon bow at the point where each color band meets the next, drawn as two loops and trailing ends in a contrasting bright color. Working the bows last, right over the band transitions, hides any uneven edges between the color sections.

Horizontal color bands on a triangle can look like flat stripes rather than a tree if the edges are too straight, so give each band a slightly wavy, jagged lower edge like real branches would have. That small wobble keeps the tree shape readable under all the candy color.

Swap bows for small candy ornaments scattered across the tree next time for a different texture.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• pink mint red markers
• contrasting marker for bows
• black fineliner

Palette: Bubblegum Pink,Candy Mint,Cherry Red,Warm Gold

Keep the trunk and tree base in a plain warm brown, a busy pattern there competes with the colorful bands above and crowds the bottom of the page.

Set up a small stand of candy apples on sticks, their glossy red shells catching the light, a nice chance to practice shine on a rounded form. Draw three or four apple shapes on short sticks first, lined up on a simple display stand or box.

Base each apple in a deep glossy red, then while the marker is still slightly workable, lift a small streak of color off with a blending pen or clean marker nib to leave a pale highlight streak down one side. That lifted streak is what makes candy apples look wet and glossy rather than matte.

If lifting color feels risky, skip it and instead add the highlight afterward with a single confident white gel pen stroke down the same spot, which gives a similar glossy effect with less risk of smudging the red underneath.

Vary the stand next time with a mix of red and green candy apples side by side for more color contrast.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red marker
• blending pen or spare colorless marker
• white gel pen

Palette: Cherry Red,Candy Green,Wood Brown,Warm White

Practice the lifting streak technique on a scrap red circle first, timing matters since lifting color works best in the first few seconds after the marker is laid down.

Stack a few simple fudge squares, each wrapped loosely in paper and tied with a bit of twine, for a cozy small-scale subject that fits easily on one page. Draw two or three flattened cube shapes first, slightly overlapping, then wrap each in a loose paper outline that does not fully cover the fudge.

Color the fudge itself in rich warm brown with a slightly lighter top face to suggest the cut surface, then add a thin twine line wrapped once around each square and tied in a small bow. Working the paper wrap in a pale cream keeps the dark fudge as the clear focal color.

Cube shapes often look lopsided if the top, front and side faces are not clearly separated, so shade each face a slightly different tone of brown, lightest on top, mid-tone on the front, darkest on the side. That three-tone trick makes any box shape read instantly as three-dimensional.

Swap the plain fudge for a marbled swirl pattern on top next time, mixing two brown tones together while the marker is still wet.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• brown markers two tones
• cream marker for paper wrap
• black fineliner for twine

Palette: Dark Chocolate,Caramel Brown,Cream,Cherry Red

Draw the twine bow last with a fine black pen, a slightly uneven hand-tied look suits this rustic candy far better than a perfectly symmetrical bow.

Fence in a simple snowman with a row of candy canes planted upside down along the ground, their hooks forming a cheerful decorative border. Build the snowman first with three stacked circles, largest at the bottom, then draw the candy cane fence as a repeating row of hooks along the snow line in front of him.

Keep every candy cane in the fence identical in size and spacing so the repetition itself becomes the decorative pattern, unlike most of the scattered candy scenes in this list. Color the snowman in cool whites and blues so the warm red candy cane fence pops clearly in front of him.

A perfectly straight fence row can look stiff and ruler-drawn, so let the ground line beneath it dip and rise slightly with small snow mounds, which naturally staggers the candy cane heights just enough to feel hand drawn.

Need an easier version? Three or four candy canes in the fence line is plenty, you do not need to fence in the whole snowman.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white markers
• blue grey marker for snow shading
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Pale Sky,Soft Grey

Add a subtle blue shadow on the snow beneath the snowman and fence, since pure white snow with no shadow at all tends to look flat and unfinished.

Light up a small candy shop front at night, its windows glowing warm against a cool evening sky, for one of the more atmospheric scenes in this set. Draw the shop building as a simple rectangular front first, with a large glowing window display of candy visible inside.

Here the light source is the shop window itself rather than the sun, so keep the surrounding sky and street in cooler deep blues and purples while the window glows in warm yellow and pink. That contrast between warm interior light and cool night air is what gives the scene its mood.

Night scenes often go muddy if the dark sky color is laid down first and candy details added on top get lost in it, so draw and color the bright window display completely before adding any of the darker surrounding sky. Painting light into dark rarely works as well as the reverse.

For a simpler version, show just the glowing window itself filling the whole page, without the rest of the building.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• deep blue purple markers for night sky
• warm yellow pink markers for window
• white gel pen for light accents

Palette: Midnight Blue,Bubblegum Pink,Warm Gold,Soft Lilac

A few small white gel pen dots scattered in the dark sky above the shop read instantly as stars and finish the night mood with almost no extra effort.

Pile small round chocolate candies, each marked with a simple letter shape, into a bowl for an easy, repetitive subject that is mostly about color variety. Draw a simple round bowl shape first, then fill it with a scattered pile of small flattened circles in red, green, yellow, blue and brown.

Add a tiny white letter mark to the center of each candy last, once the base color is fully dry, using a fine white gel pen for the crispest line. Keeping the letter small and slightly uneven across different candies actually looks more natural than a perfectly uniform stamp on every piece.

A pile of flat circles can look like coins rather than candy without one key step: add a thin darker shadow line along the lower edge of each circle where it meets the bowl or another candy. That shadow line gives the pile real roundness and depth.

Fewer colors works too, three or four repeated colors in a smaller pile still fills the bowl convincingly for a quicker version.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• assorted bright markers
• white gel pen
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Candy Mint,Lemon Yellow,Sky Blue

Wait until every candy’s base color is completely dry before adding the white letter mark, wet marker under a gel pen tip will drag and muddy the line.

Show the candy cane being made rather than finished, with a girl in a kitchen twisting red and white dough together on a counter. Draw her simply first, leaning slightly forward over the counter, both hands shaping a long twisted rope of striped dough.

The twisted dough itself is the fun part: draw it as two colored ropes spiraling around each other, thicker and looser near her hands, tapering to a point where it has not yet been shaped into the hook. Color the kitchen counter and background in soft, muted tones so her bright striped dough stays the clear focus.

Hands at a counter are a common place for proportions to go wrong, so keep them simple, rounded mitten-like shapes rather than detailed fingers, which reads perfectly well at this playful style and skips a difficult detail.

No kitchen setting needed if that feels like too much, show just her hands and the twisting dough rope close up instead.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white markers for dough
• skin tone marker
• muted brown marker for counter

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Peach Skin,Soft Brown

Reference real candy cane making photos for the twist direction, the two colors should spiral consistently in one direction along the whole rope.

Plant a cluster of candy canes straight into a snow drift, as if someone left them there after decorating outdoors, for a simple scene built mostly from contrast between warm and cool color. Draw four or five candy cane shapes at slightly different heights and angles, half buried in a rounded snow mound at the base of the page.

Color the snow in cool white and pale blue shadow tones first, then let the red and white candy canes rise out of it in the warmest, boldest color on the whole page. That temperature contrast between icy blue snow and warm red stripes is what makes the scene pop.

Snow drifts flatten into plain white shapes without any texture, so add a few short curved shadow lines along the drift’s surface in pale blue or grey, following the mound’s rounded contour. That light shading is enough, heavy texture would fight the simple candy shapes.

Try scattering a few loose peppermint candies across the snow surface too, for a bit more variety without adding much extra drawing time.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white markers
• pale blue grey marker for snow shadow
• white gel pen

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Pale Sky,Soft Grey

Pair this with the winter palette tips in this winter painting guide for more ideas on mixing cool snow tones that still feel bright.

Shape a candy dish like a small sleigh, curved runners and a scooped body, piled high with mixed sweets spilling slightly over the sides. Draw the sleigh body first as a simple curved boat shape with two upturned runner curls at the front, then fill the inside generously with a mix of wrapped candies and mints.

Color the sleigh itself in a single bold color, deep red or forest green, with a thin gold trim line along its curved edges, so it reads clearly as one object even under the busy pile of candy inside it. Build the candy pile last, letting a few pieces hang over the sleigh’s edge for a generous, overflowing look.

Curved sleigh runners often end up uneven if drawn freehand in one try, so sketch the curve lightly first, check that both runners match, then commit to the final ink or marker line once you are happy with the shape.

A simpler bowl shape works just as well if the sleigh curves feel tricky, the candy pile inside still carries the Christmas feeling.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red or green marker for sleigh
• gold marker for trim
• assorted bright markers for candy

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm Gold,Candy Mint,Bubblegum Pink

Keep the gold trim as one single confident line rather than several short strokes, a continuous line reads as metal trim far more convincingly.

Rebuild the classic nutcracker figure entirely out of candy pieces instead of wood, a fun mashup that keeps his familiar silhouette while filling it with sweet texture. Draw the nutcracker’s basic standing shape first: tall hat, blocky body, straight legs, in the usual simple proportions.

Fill his hat with small striped candies, his coat buttons with round mints, and his base with stacked fudge or chocolate squares, treating each section of his body as its own little candy pattern. Keep his face and hands in plain skin tones so they stand out clearly from the busy candy-covered uniform.

A figure built from many small patterns can lose its overall shape fast, so keep his outline, the hat brim, coat edges, leg lines, in one consistent black fineliner weight throughout. That steady outline holds the whole figure together under all the candy detail.

For a quicker version, cover just his hat and coat front in candy and leave his legs a plain solid color.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• assorted bright markers
• skin tone marker
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Candy Mint,Warm Gold,Peach Skin

Look at a real nutcracker figure for the hat and coat proportions, getting that silhouette right first makes the candy pattern work read instantly as him.

Roll out a dessert cart loaded with a mix of pastel sweets, cupcakes, macarons and small candies, for a wider variety subject after so many single-item scenes. Draw the cart frame first, a simple wheeled table shape with two or three shelf levels, then fill each shelf with a different small dessert shape.

Keep the whole palette in soft pastels rather than the bold reds used elsewhere in this set, pale pink, mint, lilac and butter yellow, which gives this piece a gentler, more delicate feel. Work the top shelf desserts in the most detail since they sit closest to the eye, and simplify the lower shelf items into looser shapes.

A cart with too many different items can turn visually chaotic fast, so repeat just three or four dessert types across the shelves rather than inventing a new treat for every space. Repetition with color variation reads as abundant without reading as cluttered.

Once this works, try the same cart loaded entirely with candy canes and lollipops for a bolder, brighter version.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• pastel markers
• brown marker for cart frame
• black fineliner

Palette: Pale Pink,Soft Mint,Soft Lilac,Butter Yellow

Try a similar layered sweets setup from the cake drawing ideas in this cake drawing guide if you want more pastel dessert shapes to borrow from.

Pair a cold treat with a cold season by drawing a peppermint ice cream cone, its scoop swirled with pink and white, sitting against a snowy background. Draw the waffle cone shape first with its crosshatch texture, then the ice cream scoop on top as a soft rounded swirl shape, wider than the cone itself.

Color the scoop in swirling bands of pink and white rather than one flat color, following the natural twist of a soft-serve shape from the cone tip upward. Scatter a few tiny red candy cane bits across the scoop’s surface last, once the pink and white swirl is fully dry.

Ice cream scoops often end up looking like a plain triangle without the swirl detail, so add two or three curved ridge lines following the scoop’s spiral shape before adding any color, then let your marker strokes follow those same curved lines. That keeps the swirl direction consistent.

Set it against a plain snowy blue background rather than a full winter scene if you want to keep this one quick.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• pink white markers
• tan marker for cone
• fine red marker for candy bits

Palette: Bubblegum Pink,Warm White, Tan Waffle,Pale Sky

Draw the crosshatch waffle pattern on the cone lightly in pencil first, going over a busy pattern directly in marker tends to smear into a muddy grid.

Stack three or four candy gift boxes of different sizes, each tied with its own ribbon color, for a subject that is really about practicing simple boxes and bows together. Draw the boxes first as basic rectangles stacked at slight angles to each other, overlapping just enough to feel like a real stack rather than a tidy grid.

Give each box a different pattern, polka dots, stripes, a solid color, so the stack reads as a varied collection rather than identical repeated shapes. Tie a ribbon and bow around each box in a color that contrasts with its own pattern, working the ribbons last so they sit clearly on top of the box patterns beneath.

Stacked boxes commonly tilt the wrong way and look like they would slide off each other, so check that each box’s top edge lines up believably with the one below it before adding any pattern or ribbon. A quick pencil check now saves a redraw later.

Try nesting a few candies peeking out from one open box lid next time for added detail.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• assorted bright markers
• contrasting markers for ribbons
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Candy Mint,Bubblegum Pink,Warm Gold

Try this alongside the red tones in this red junk journal collection if you want matching paper for a handmade gift tag to go with the drawing.

Give the candy cane a party twist by shaping it into a round disco ball instead of a straight stick, covered in tiny mirrored facets in red, white and pink. Draw a simple circle first, then divide its surface into a grid of small diamond or square facets, like a real disco ball pattern.

Color the facets in alternating red and white candy stripe tones rather than silver, so it still reads clearly as candy even in this playful new shape. Add small white gel pen sparkle marks scattered just outside the ball’s edge to suggest the light it would throw off if it were spinning.

A grid of tiny facets can look flat without variation, so make a few facets slightly brighter white than the others, as if catching more light, scattered unevenly rather than in any obvious pattern. That randomness is what sells the sparkle effect.

Hang it from a simple string or hook drawn at the top if you want it to feel suspended rather than floating.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• red white markers
• white gel pen for sparkle
• black fineliner

Palette: Cherry Red,Warm White,Bubblegum Pink,Candy Mint

Keep the facet grid lines in a lighter grey rather than solid black, heavy black grid lines flatten the ball and fight with the bright candy colors underneath.

Close the list with something small and sweet: a rabbit sitting back on its haunches, nibbling one end of a candy cane held in its paws. Draw the rabbit first as a simple rounded body with long upright ears, then the candy cane held between its two front paws at a slight angle toward its mouth.

Keep the rabbit’s fur in a soft, flat grey or white, so the red and white candy cane stays the clear brightest color against it. A pink inner ear detail and a small pink nose tie the rabbit’s coloring back to the candy palette used throughout this whole set.

Rabbit ears often end up too stiff and symmetrical, so angle them slightly differently from each other, one a touch more relaxed, one more upright, for a livelier, more natural pose. That small asymmetry makes the whole figure feel less stiff.

If you enjoyed building a simple animal shape here, the beginner animal poses in this pencil drawing guide offer more practice with the same approach.

You Will Need

• marker paper
• grey white markers for rabbit
• red white markers for candy cane
• pink marker for ears and nose

Palette: Soft Grey,Warm White,Cherry Red,Bubblegum Pink

Keep the rabbit’s expression simple, closed eyes or a small content smile reads as sweeter and calmer than wide open eyes staring at the viewer.

What to Do Next

Pick whichever candy scene made you want to grab your markers first, sketch it lightly in pencil on smooth paper, and build the color up from lightest to darkest. One finished page today is better than six half-started ones, so start small if the bigger scenes feel like a lot, and work your way up the list as your confidence grows.

Frequently Asked Questions

What markers work best for a christmas candy drawing like these?

Alcohol-based markers work best because they blend smoothly and dry with a glossy finish that suits candy stripes. Dual-tip brush markers give the most control over thick stripes and fine highlight lines in one set.

How do you keep candy cane stripes from looking messy?

Pencil in light spiral or diagonal guidelines before adding any marker color, since freehand stripes drift off course fast. Keep your wrist loose and check the last stripe before starting the next one.

What paper should you use for alcohol marker candy drawings?

Smooth marker paper or a bristol pad works best since it resists buckling and keeps ink from feathering into the stripes. Regular sketchbook paper often bleeds alcohol ink past the pencil lines.

How do you make the white highlights look glossy instead of flat?

Add white gel pen highlights only after every marker layer beneath them is fully dry, otherwise the ink drags and smudges. A single curved stroke along the brightest edge reads as glossy, several short dabs usually do not.

Can you do these candy drawing ideas without alcohol markers?

Yes, colored pencils or gel pens work as a substitute, just expect softer edges than alcohol marker gives. Layer colored pencil in small circular strokes and press harder near the highlight areas to mimic the same glossy look.
