29 Cute Panda Drawing Ideas of Bamboo Snacks, Lazy Naps and Panda Hugs

30

A cute panda drawing is basically an excuse to draw a round, clumsy shape doing something small and funny, and that is exactly why these are so satisfying to make. Pandas are forgiving: the big black eye patches and soft white body hide a lot of wobble, so even a slightly uneven circle still reads as a panda happily munching, napping or floating in a bubble bath.

Below are 29 panda moments, from a quick snack to a whole snow sculpture, each sized for one sitting with markers over a fineliner outline. Work through them in order if you like, starting easy and building confidence, or jump straight to whichever tiny story makes you smile first.

Start with the simplest panda story on this whole list: a panda sitting upright, both paws wrapped around a stick of bamboo, cheeks already bulging. Sketch the body as one tall oval and the head as a slightly smaller circle on top, then pencil in the ear patches, eye patches and the bamboo stick crossing the mouth before you touch a fineliner to the page.

Ink the outline once the pencil shapes feel right, then block in the black patches with a cool grey marker first, so the eye and ear shapes stay soft rather than flat. Layer true black on top once that grey has dried, leaving a sliver of white or light grey unmarked for a gentle highlight.

The spot that usually goes wrong is the eye patches drifting too far apart or too high, which makes the panda look startled instead of content. Measure the gap between them against the width of one patch before you ink, and if you only have black and green markers today, swap the grey undercoat for a light pass of black at an angle, then go darker in a second layer.

Finish with a quick swipe of blush pink on each cheek while the face still feels fresh.

Once the sitting panda feels comfortable, try one draped loosely over a tree branch, limbs hanging down on either side like a sack of laundry. Lightly pencil the branch first as a simple diagonal line, then build the panda’s body around it as a long soft oval that bends slightly where it meets the wood.

Think about where the light comes from before you ink: if it falls from the upper left, keep the highlight on the top of the back and the branch, and let the underside of the belly and the far paw sit in slightly deeper grey. This one small choice is what makes a draped pose look like it is actually resting on something solid instead of floating beside it.

Paws and the tail end are where proportions tend to slip, so pause after inking the body and check that each dangling limb is roughly the same length as the panda’s own head. If markers are not in reach yet, a soft graphite pencil with a koala painting style gentle shading approach works just as well for this sleepy pose.

Add a few short bark lines on the branch last so it reads as wood, not a plain stick.

Give the baby panda from this idea some motion: imagine it mid-tumble, body curled into a rounder, smaller shape than the adults you have drawn so far, with one ear and one paw flung outward from the roll. Pencil a simple circle for the tucked body, then let the limbs poke out at angles that suggest spinning rather than sitting still.

Work the outline in fineliner starting from the head, since that is the anchor shape everything else curls around, then ink the limbs following the direction of the tumble. Color in short confident strokes along the curve of the body rather than flat fills, which helps the eye read movement instead of a static ball.

If the roll looks stiff, the usual culprit is limbs drawn too symmetrically; stagger them so one paw is higher and more open than the other. No bamboo green marker on hand? A patch of yellow-green colored pencil blended lightly underneath still suggests grass without needing a full marker layer.

Scribble a few short grass tufts flying up near the tumble for extra energy.

Palette: Jet Black,Soft White,Grass Green,Blush Pink

Draw three or four tiny motion lines trailing behind the tumbling body. They read instantly as speed and take seconds to add.

This is a good one to slow down on, since two panda bodies touching need to feel like they belong to each other rather than two separate drawings pushed together. Sketch the mother first as the larger, steadier shape, seated with her back slightly rounded, then fit the cub’s smaller oval into the curve of her chest and arms second.

Overlap matters here: let the cub’s head and one ear sit slightly in front of the mother’s arm in your pencil lines, then ink the front shape fully and leave a small gap in the line behind it where they meet. That gap is what tells the eye which panda is closer to you.

Faces nestled close together often end up too similar in size, so check the cub’s head against the mother’s head before inking; it should look noticeably smaller, maybe two thirds the size. If you are short on a second grey marker for depth, use a single grey but press lighter on the cub and firmer on the mother to separate them.

Keep the hug simple: one of the mother’s arms wrapped around is plenty, no need to draw every paw in detail.

Move from land to water with a panda sitting in a round tub, suds piled up around its shoulders like a fluffy collar. Draw the tub as a simple rounded rectangle first, then place the panda’s head and shoulders peeking out of the top, body hidden beneath the bubble line.

Ink the panda and tub rim before touching the bubbles, then use a white gel pen over light blue marker to build the suds, letting some circles overlap and others sit half-hidden behind the rim. This layering order keeps the bubbles looking soft instead of flat white blobs floating on top of everything else.

A common mistake is making every bubble the same size, which flattens the whole pile; mix a few larger rounded shapes with smaller dots scattered near the edges. Without a gel pen, you can reserve the white paper itself for bubble highlights by simply not coloring those small circles at all.

Add one bubble resting on top of an ear for a last playful touch.

Give the panda a little costume now: a hat folded from a single wide bamboo leaf, perched jauntily over one ear. Draw the head and face first, then add the leaf as a simple triangular fold sitting slightly tilted, with one pointed tip flopping over the forehead.

Ink the leaf’s outer edge with a slightly looser, more curved line than the panda’s own fur, since a leaf should feel thin and bendable next to a soft, rounded body. Color it in two greens, a lighter wash first and a few darker vein lines added after it dries, which gives the leaf more life than a single flat green.

If the hat looks like it is floating above the head instead of resting on it, check that the leaf’s base tucks slightly behind one ear in your pencil sketch; that small overlap sells the whole idea. No second green on hand? One marker plus a few fineliner cross-hatch lines for veins reads just as well.

Tilt the panda’s head slightly so the hat looks like it might slide off, which adds personality instantly.

Here is a fun test of hand props: a panda holding chopsticks in one paw, lifting a tangle of noodles toward its open mouth. Sketch the bowl low in the frame first, then the noodle tangle rising up out of it as a loose loopy line, and only then the paw and chopsticks gripping the top.

Paws are not built like human hands, so keep the grip simple: two chopsticks crossing near the top of a rounded paw shape is enough, no individual fingers needed. Ink the noodles with a continuous wavy line rather than separate strokes, which keeps the tangle feeling like one connected shape instead of scattered squiggles.

The mouth is where this idea can go wrong, since an opening drawn too wide makes the panda look startled rather than delighted; keep it a small rounded oval, slightly tilted toward the noodles. Swap chopsticks for a simple spoon if drawing the crossed sticks feels fiddly today, and the story still reads perfectly well.

Steam lines rising from the bowl finish the scene with almost no extra effort.

Palette: Jet Black,Noodle Yellow,Soft White,Bowl Red

Bring in a proportion check for this one: a panda sitting inside a hanging tire swing, rope stretching up out of frame. Draw the tire as a thick donut shape first, sized so the panda’s body fits inside it with just the head, shoulders and dangling feet showing, then measure that the tire’s width roughly matches the panda’s own shoulder width before you commit to ink.

Getting that measurement close keeps the swing looking like it actually fits the panda, rather than looking like a hula hoop a panda happens to be standing near. Ink the rope as two slightly wavy parallel lines rather than perfectly straight ones, which suggests gentle swaying motion.

Rubber texture is the easy win here: use a dry brush pass of grey marker over the tire shape before the black outline goes fully dark, leaving streaky gaps that read as worn rubber. If a rope feels tricky to keep straight, lay a ruler lightly in pencil first, then ink freehand just inside those guide lines.

Let both back feet dangle loose below the tire for a happy, careless feel.

Palette: Jet Black,Tire Grey,Rope Tan,Blush Pink

Keep this one deliberately simple after the swing: a panda standing on two feet, one paw raised holding a single red balloon by a thin string. Draw the balloon first as a slightly uneven circle, since perfectly round balloons read as stiff and plastic rather than soft, then build the panda’s standing body beneath it.

Ink the string as one loose curved line rather than ruler-straight, letting it dip slightly between the paw and the balloon knot. Color the balloon in two shades of red, a darker pass along one edge to suggest roundness, with a small white highlight dot left bare on the opposite side.

Standing pandas often come out with feet too small to hold the pose steady, so widen the stance slightly and make sure both feet sit flat along the same baseline. No red marker today works fine too; a yellow or blue balloon tells exactly the same cheerful story.

Leave a generous sliver of white paper as the balloon’s highlight rather than coloring it in fully.

Palette: Jet Black,Balloon Red,Deep Red,Soft White

This one plays with perspective: a panda’s head and one paw poking out from behind a tree trunk, body hidden entirely from view. Draw the trunk first as a tall vertical shape filling a good third of the frame, then decide which side the panda peeks from and place the head so it overlaps the trunk’s edge generously, not just touching it.

That overlap is the whole trick: if the head only grazes the trunk’s outline, the panda will look like it is standing beside the tree instead of hiding behind it. Ink the trunk’s edge as one continuous line and let the panda’s head shape interrupt it cleanly, erasing any trunk line that falls behind the face before you color.

Bark texture goes wrong when it is too busy, so keep it to a handful of long curved lines rather than a tight crosshatch pattern. If you want a faster version, skip detailed bark altogether and use one flat brown with two or three darker marker lines added once it dries.

One wide curious eye peeking around the edge says more than a full face ever would.

Palette: Jet Black,Bark Brown,Bamboo Green,Soft White

Return to a pair of pandas, this time face to face, each gripping one end of the same bamboo stalk like a gentle tug of war without any actual pulling. Sketch both bodies first as mirrored ovals leaning slightly toward each other, then draw the bamboo stick connecting their mouths last, once you know exactly where both heads will sit.

Keep the two pandas close enough that the stick between them stays short, since a long gap reads as two separate drawings rather than one shared moment. Ink one panda fully before starting the second, so you are not jumping back and forth and losing track of which outline belongs to which body.

Symmetry is the risk here: if both pandas look identical, the scene feels stiff, so vary one ear angle or one paw position between them. Readers who enjoyed drawing cute animal pairs might also like the companion pieces in the dog pencil drawing ideas for more friendly duo poses.

Finish with a few small leaf shapes still attached to the shared stick between them.

Palette: Jet Black,Bamboo Green,Blush Pink,Cool Grey

Add snow and motion together with a panda flat on its belly, sliding headfirst down a snowy hill, front paws stretched forward like a tiny toboggan. Pencil the slope as one long diagonal line first, then lay the panda’s stretched-out body along it, head leading and back legs trailing up behind.

Light on snow behaves differently than light on fur, so leave more white paper bare on the slope than you would on grass, and use a very pale blue marker only in the shadowed dips rather than flat across the whole hill. This contrast between stark white snow and the panda’s own black and white pattern is what keeps the scene from going muddy.

A stretched belly-slide pose can end up looking flat if the limbs are all drawn parallel, so angle the back legs slightly differently from the front paws. If pale blue is not in your kit, a light grey marker in the shadow dips does the same job.

A spray of small white flecks flicked up near the back paws sells the speed instantly.

Palette: Jet Black,Soft White,Pale Blue,Blush Pink

Slow the pace right down with a small, sleepy scene: a panda cub curled into a round woven basket, eyes shut, one paw hanging just over the rim. Draw the basket first as a wide shallow bowl shape, then nestle the cub’s curled body inside it so the basket’s rim overlaps the lower edge of the fur.

Weave texture only needs a handful of short curved lines across the basket’s surface, repeated in loose rows rather than drawn individually for every strand. Ink the cub’s closed eyes as two gentle curved lines, never full circles, since closed eyes are what reads as sleep rather than simply looking down.

If the basket ends up looking too large or too small for the cub, compare the basket’s width against the length of the cub’s curled body before inking; they should feel like a close, snug fit. No tan marker for the weave? A warm brown colored pencil layered lightly over cream paper gives the same cozy effect.

Let one ear flop slightly over the basket rim for an extra touch of softness.

Palette: Jet Black,Basket Tan,Soft White,Blush Pink

Hand the panda a modern prop: a tall cup of bubble tea held in both paws, a wide straw angled toward its mouth. Draw the cup as a simple tapered rectangle first, dome lid on top, then place the straw crossing diagonally from the lid to the mouth before building the paws around the cup’s sides.

Tapioca pearls at the bottom of the cup are the fun detail here: a cluster of small dark circles layered unevenly, some overlapping, drawn after the tea color has fully dried so they sit crisply on top. Color the tea itself with one smooth even layer of marker, since bubble tea should look glossy and flat, not textured like fur.

Straws drawn too thin disappear visually against a busy cup, so keep the straw noticeably wide and give it a small ellipse at the top where it enters the lid. Without a brown marker for pearls, a fine black pen filled in solid works just as well for those small dots.

Tilt the cup slightly toward the mouth to suggest an eager first sip.

Palette: Jet Black,Milk Tea Brown,Pearl Black,Soft White

Settle into a quieter scene now: a panda sitting cross-legged under a tree, an open book propped on its lap, head tilted slightly down toward the pages. Sketch the tree’s trunk and a simple cluster of leaves behind the panda first, since this backdrop frames the whole pose, then draw the panda sitting in front of it with the book last.

Eye level matters here: because you are looking down at a seated, reading panda, draw the top of the head and the book cover slightly foreshortened, wider at the bottom edge than the top, which makes the whole pose feel grounded rather than floating. Keep the book itself simple, two flat rectangles meeting at a spine, no need for visible text or page lines.

A downward-tilted head can accidentally hide too much face, so leave at least one eye and both cheeks visible even as the head dips. If a full tree feels like too much today, a single overhanging branch with a few leaves gives the same cozy, sheltered feeling with far less drawing.

Shade the ground beneath the panda slightly darker to anchor it in place.

Palette: Jet Black,Bamboo Green,Bark Brown,Blush Pink

For a cozier backdrop like this one, the tree and ground ideas in the winter forest painting list translate nicely into marker, just simplified.

Challenge the balance of the whole page with a panda upside down on its front paws, back legs kicked straight up in the air. Draw a light vertical guideline down the center of the page first, then build the panda symmetrically around it, paws planted at the bottom and legs reaching toward the top.

This pose only works if the weight looks believable, so widen the front paws slightly more than usual and angle the shoulders just a touch forward, as if genuinely pressing into the ground. Ink the body from the paws upward, since that is the point of contact everything else balances from, then finish the kicked-up legs last.

Handstands often end up looking tipped over rather than balanced when the head is drawn too far to one side of that center guideline, so check it against the line before committing to ink. If a full handstand feels ambitious today, a simpler version with the panda balanced on just its front paws with back legs bent rather than fully straight still tells the same silly story.

A couple of small motion lines near the kicked-up feet add a last bit of wobble and fun.

Palette: Jet Black,Soft White,Blush Pink,Cool Grey

Keep things lighthearted with a small sight gag: a panda sitting still, eyes crossed upward in surprise, a single dumpling balanced right on top of its head. Draw the panda’s face and ears first, leaving a flat enough space between the ears for the dumpling to actually sit convincingly, then add the dumpling as a simple curved pouch shape with a pinched seam along the top.

The crossed-eyed expression is the real work here: draw both pupils tilted slightly inward and upward, toward the dumpling rather than straight ahead, which instantly reads as comic surprise rather than a blank stare. Ink the dumpling’s pinched seam with a few short overlapping curved lines rather than one continuous edge, which gives it a pleated, handmade look.

If the dumpling looks like it is floating above the head rather than resting on it, add a thin curved shadow line directly beneath it where it touches the fur. No steamed-dumpling pale color on hand? A plain cream or light tan marker reads just as well.

One small steam curl rising off the dumpling finishes the joke nicely.

Palette: Jet Black,Dumpling Cream,Soft White,Blush Pink

Return outdoors for a cozier winter portrait: a panda standing in falling snow, a long red scarf wrapped once around its neck with both ends trailing to one side. Draw the head and shoulders first, then wrap the scarf around the neck as two overlapping curved bands before letting the loose ends drape down over one shoulder.

Fabric folds are the texture trick here: instead of drawing the scarf as a flat smooth shape, add two or three short diagonal lines near where it wraps, suggesting the soft give of knitted fabric rather than stiff paper. Color the scarf in one even red first, then darken just the fold lines slightly once that layer dries, rather than trying to shade the whole scarf at once.

Snowflakes drawn too large and too few look sparse, so scatter a generous number of small dots and tiny plus-shaped flakes across the background instead of just a handful. If red marker runs out, a mustard yellow or forest green scarf works just as sweetly against the black and white fur.

Let the scarf’s trailing ends overlap the shoulder fur slightly for a natural, worn look.

Palette: Jet Black,Scarf Red,Deep Red,Soft White

Take on a proportion challenge with a panda pedaling a small bicycle, paws gripping the handlebars and legs mid-pedal. Draw the bicycle frame first as two simple triangles sharing one point, wheels sized so each one is roughly the same height as the panda’s own head, then fit the panda’s body onto the seat and handlebars using that wheel size as your guide throughout.

Keeping the wheels close to head height is what stops the bike from looking either toylike and tiny or oversized and awkward beneath the panda. Ink the wheels as clean circles with just a few spoke lines, since a fully detailed bicycle will fight for attention with the panda sitting on it.

Legs mid-pedal often come out looking tangled, so simplify to one leg bent high and one leg extended low, exactly opposite points on the pedal circle, rather than trying to show every joint. If a full bicycle feels like a lot today, a simpler scooter with one wheel in front and one behind tells a similar silly story with half the construction.

A small basket on the front handlebars holding one bamboo stalk ties the whole scene together.

Palette: Jet Black,Bicycle Red,Cool Grey,Bamboo Green

Build on the earlier hugging pandas with a bit more mischief: a cub clambering up the back of a larger panda who is fast asleep, flat on its belly and completely unbothered. Draw the sleeping adult first as one long low curved shape, head resting flat, then add the cub perched partway up the back, one paw gripping fur for balance.

Give the two very different energy levels through posture alone: the adult’s lines should stay long, low and heavy, while the cub’s smaller body leans forward with legs slightly bent, as if genuinely climbing rather than just standing on a platform. That contrast is what sells the whole little scene without needing any extra props.

If the cub looks like it is simply sitting on top rather than climbing, add one small bent leg with the foot pressed into the adult’s fur for grip, and curve the cub’s spine forward slightly. A reader warming up on animal pairs first might enjoy browsing the cat pencil drawing ideas for more relaxed, lounging poses to practice the heavy, settled body language.

Keep the sleeping adult’s eyes fully closed and mouth soft to really sell the calm.

Palette: Jet Black,Soft White,Blush Pink,Cool Grey

Cool things down with a summer snack: a panda holding a large triangular watermelon slice in both paws, face buried happily into the fruit. Draw the slice first as one clean triangle with a curved outer rind edge, then place the panda’s head tilted forward into it, mouth hidden partly behind the fruit’s edge.

Seeds are the small detail that makes this work: scatter a handful of small black oval shapes unevenly across the pink flesh rather than lining them up in neat rows, which keeps the slice looking fresh rather than printed. Color the rind in two greens, a darker edge and a pale inner stripe just inside it, before filling the pink flesh last.

A face buried too deeply into the slice can hide all the charm, so leave at least the eyes and the top of the head visible above the fruit’s edge. No pink marker handy? A warm coral or light red works just as well for juicy watermelon flesh.

A couple of small juice drip marks near the panda’s chin finish the happy mess nicely.

Palette: Jet Black,Watermelon Pink,Rind Green,Pale Green

Give the panda a soft landscape setting for once: lying on its back in a low field of wildflowers, paws tucked up, surrounded by a scatter of small simple blooms. Draw the panda’s reclining body first, since it anchors the whole scene, then fill the ground around it with small flower shapes, varying their size and spacing rather than lining them up evenly.

Next time you draw this scene, try shifting the season instead of the pose: swap the wildflowers for autumn leaves scattered the same way, or scale it back to a handful of bare grass blades for a simpler spring version. That one swap keeps the same comfortable composition feeling fresh each time you return to it.

Flower fields often end up too busy when every bloom gets equal detail, so pick three or four flowers close to the panda to draw fully, and let the rest fade into looser dabs of color further back. If individual flower shapes feel fiddly, small dot clusters of two or three colors scattered loosely suggest a meadow just as convincingly.

Keep the panda’s expression soft and eyes half closed for a genuinely peaceful mood.

Palette: Jet Black,Meadow Green,Flower Pink,Soft Yellow

Bring the panda back indoors for a cozy domestic scene: sitting squeezed into a round laundry basket, a few stray socks and a towel draped over the rim beside it. Draw the basket first as a wide woven bowl, slightly too small for the panda, then build the body inside it so the sides bulge out gently over the rim, since that slight squeeze is what makes the scene funny.

Keep the fabric scraps simple: one sock as a soft tube with a folded cuff, one towel corner as a loose rectangle draped over the edge, no need for pattern or texture on either. Ink the basket’s weave lines in short curved rows just like the earlier basket idea, then color the fabric pieces in one or two quick flat colors.

If the panda looks like it is simply standing behind the basket rather than sitting inside it, double check that the basket’s front rim overlaps the lower body in your pencil sketch before you ink. No spare sock color in mind? Plain white with a single grey stripe reads clearly enough.

Let one ear poke up slightly higher than the basket rim for a last playful detail.

Palette: Jet Black,Basket Tan,Soft White,Blush Pink

Slow right down for a quiet mood piece: a panda wrapped up to the chin in a soft blanket, sitting near a window, watching rain fall outside. Draw the blanket first as one large rounded shape that swallows most of the body, leaving only the head and the very top of two paws peeking out, then add a simple window shape behind with a few vertical rain streaks.

This is a good one for a ten-minute and a forty-minute version: the quick version is just the wrapped panda and a plain window outline, while the longer version adds reflected light on the glass, a soft puddle shape on the sill, and a second, lighter wash of grey across the rain streaks for depth.

Blankets drawn too smooth look stiff, so add two or three soft fold lines where the fabric gathers near the chest, each one a gentle curve rather than a straight crease. If you are short on time or markers, skip the window detail entirely and let a plain grey background suggest a rainy day just as effectively.

Keep the panda’s eyes slightly drowsy, since this scene is really about comfort, not drama.

Palette: Jet Black,Blanket Grey,Rain Blue,Soft White

Keep this one friendly and direct: a panda standing facing forward, one paw raised in a clear wave, the kind of pose that works well as a simple greeting card drawing. Draw the body facing straight on first, feet planted evenly, then raise one arm high with the paw open rather than curled, since an open paw reads more clearly as a wave than a closed one.

A face drawn perfectly centered and symmetrical can feel a little flat for a greeting, so tilt the head very slightly toward the raised paw, which adds warmth without any extra linework. Ink the raised arm last, after the body is settled, so you can adjust its angle freely without redrawing anything beneath it.

If the standing pose looks tipped over, check that both feet sit on the same baseline and that the raised arm does not pull the whole silhouette off balance to one side. This friendly, front-facing pose also works nicely alongside the ideas in bird pencil drawing if you want a small set of cheerful animal greeting cards together.

A few small curved lines beside the raised paw suggest a gentle waving motion.

Palette: Jet Black,Soft White,Blush Pink,Cool Grey

Give the panda a sense of purpose with a small backpack stuffed full of bamboo stalks poking out the top, straps worn over both shoulders. Draw the backpack shape first as a rounded rectangle sitting against the back, then add two simple curved straps crossing over the shoulders before building the walking body around it.

Bamboo poking out the top is an easy texture win: a handful of straight vertical lines of varying height, a few leaves tucked among them, drawn after the backpack’s main shape is fully inked so they read as sitting inside it rather than floating above. Keep the straps slightly indented where they cross the shoulder fur, which helps the backpack look like it is actually worn rather than glued on.

Straps drawn too thin can disappear against busy fur, so keep them noticeably wide and simple. If a full standing walk feels like too much today, a panda simply standing still with the backpack on tells the same little story with an easier pose.

Add one small front pocket flap for a quick extra detail that reads as well-used gear.

Palette: Jet Black,Pack Tan,Bamboo Green,Soft White

Light up the page a little with a panda holding a round paper lantern up by its handle, warm glow suggested rather than literally lit. Draw the lantern first as a simple round shape with ribbed lines curving top to bottom, then add a small loop handle at the top before placing the panda’s paw gripping it below.

Suggesting glow without actual light takes one simple trick: color the lantern itself in warm orange or yellow, then add a faint soft halo of the same color just outside its edge using a very light touch of marker, almost dry, rather than a hard-edged circle. This soft outer wash is what reads as light spilling out, far more convincingly than a sharp glowing outline would.

If the lantern looks flat rather than round, keep those vertical ribbed lines curving slightly inward at both the top and bottom, following the lantern’s roundness rather than running straight down. No orange marker on hand? A warm yellow alone, with red added only at the very core, still glows nicely.

Darken the background very slightly around the panda so the lantern’s warmth stands out more clearly.

Palette: Jet Black,Lantern Orange,Warm Yellow,Deep Grey

Slow the whole mood down again with a close, simple portrait: a panda mid-yawn, mouth stretched wide open, one paw raised to cover it halfway. Draw the open mouth first as a wide rounded oval, since getting this shape right before anything else keeps the whole expression believable, then build the rest of the face and raised paw around it.

Eyes during a real yawn tend to squeeze nearly shut, so draw them as two short curved lines rather than open circles, which instantly reads as sleepy rather than surprised. Ink the raised paw covering part of the mouth last, letting it overlap the jaw line slightly so it looks like it is genuinely resting against the face.

An open mouth drawn too small compared to the head looks unconvincing, so size the oval generously, close to a third of the total face width, before you commit to ink. If a raised paw feels tricky to place well, skip it entirely and let the wide-open mouth and squeezed eyes carry the whole expression on their own.

A single small sparkle or tear near one closed eye adds a nice finishing touch of genuine sleepiness.

Palette: Jet Black,Soft White,Blush Pink,Cool Grey

Finish the whole list with a bit of a joke: a real panda standing proudly beside its own snow sculpture, built in its own likeness, complete with round coal-dot eyes and a stick for each ear. Draw the real panda first on one side, then build the snow panda beside it as a simpler, rounder, flatter version using mostly white paper and just a few thin black lines for the pattern.

Keeping the snow version noticeably simpler than the real one is the whole point: fewer fur details, a plain round body, and stick arms instead of full paws, which makes it instantly read as a snow sculpture rather than a second real panda standing there. Ink the real panda with full black and white patches as usual, then switch to a much lighter touch for the snow figure, mostly outline with only a hint of grey shading.

If the two look too similar, remove detail from the snow version rather than adding it, since less is exactly what makes it convincing as snow. No real twigs to reference for the ear sticks? A simple short diagonal line in brown marker does the job.

A scattering of small snowflakes falling between the two ties the whole scene together nicely.

What to Do Next

Pick whichever panda made you smile first, whether that is the simple bamboo snack or the full snow panda scene, and start with a light pencil sketch on marker paper before any ink touches the page. One finished drawing today is plenty; the rest of the list will still be here tomorrow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What markers work best for a cute panda drawing?

Alcohol-based markers blend most smoothly for this style. Use a cool grey for undercoats, a true black for final patches, and keep bamboo green and blush pink nearby for the fresh accent colors throughout every idea on this list.

How do you keep the black and white fur from looking flat?

Layer a light grey marker first, then add true black on top once it dries. Leaving a thin sliver of unmarked paper along one edge of each patch creates a soft highlight that keeps the fur looking rounded.

Should you ink before or after coloring a panda drawing?

Always pencil the full pose first, ink the outline once the shapes feel right, then color inside those inked lines. Coloring before inking makes it much harder to keep marker within clean, confident edges.

What is the easiest panda pose for a first try?

A simple seated panda facing forward, like one munching bamboo, is the easiest start. The pose stays symmetrical and still, so you can focus entirely on getting the face and patches right before trying motion.

How do you make panda cheeks look blush and soft instead of flat pink circles?

Use a light touch with a blush pink marker in a loose, slightly uneven oval rather than a perfect circle. Leave the center a touch lighter than the edges for a soft, blended glow instead of a flat color block.
