Table of Contents
Alice in Wonderland junk journal pages give you a full set of scenes and patterns drawn from the original Lewis Carroll book, not the later film versions. Expect the mad tea party, the White Rabbit with his pocket watch, the tiny door with its golden key, the card gardeners painting roses red, and the quieter corners of the story that rarely get their own page.
The set holds 22 scene pages, 4 seamless background pages and 5 lined writing pages, enough to build a whole journal around one storybook. Print everything on heavyweight paper, at least 24 lb or 90 gsm, so the colour sits flat and the sheet does not curl. Set your printer to its best or photo quality, borderless if that option exists, then trim each page to size with a paper trimmer or sharp scissors before you glue or bind.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
The Tea Party Pages
Long table set under a garden tree, teapots, a stack of cups, scattered biscuits, the Hatter’s hat and the Dormouse curled near the cream jug fill the whole sheet.
Before gluing this one in, tuck a scrap of real tea-stained paper behind it so a hint of brown shows through the torn edge, echoing the cup in the Hatter’s hand. A paper doily cut small and layered under the corner works just as well if you have no stained paper on hand.
March Hare dips the pocket watch in butter while teapots, bread and a jam pot crowd the table around him, with a hedge of roses painted behind the whole scene.
Pair this page with the Teacups and Keys pattern later in the set: lay the pattern page underneath as a facing sheet so the sleeping Dormouse sits across from a wall of tiny teacups, giving the spread one quiet subject and one busy one.
White Rabbit Pages
White Rabbit pauses mid-dash on a garden path, waistcoat buttons straining, pocket watch open in one paw, gloves and a fan dropped behind him in the grass.
A common slip here is painting the hole as a flat black circle, which flattens the whole page. Keep the opening dark but add a few strands of root and grass curling around its edge so it still reads as part of a living hedge rather than a hole punched in the paper.
Small cottage with a brass nameplate reading W. RABBIT, a watering can by the step, a pair of kid gloves on the windowsill and a garden path leading up to the painted door.
Good page for a journaler working through an older relative’s keepsakes, since the dropped fan and gloves read naturally as a page for a single treasured object glued in later. Leave a little open grass at the bottom for a small pressed flower or ribbon.
Doors And Keys Pages
Tiny painted door set low in a paneled hall wall, glass table beside it holding the golden key, curtain and empty bottle labeled DRINK ME on the floor nearby.
Write a short wish list on this one: three doors you would open if you had the key, real or imagined, in the open floor space beside the table leg. Keep the writing small so the glass table and key stay the clear subject of the page.
Glass bottle with a paper label reading DRINK ME sits on the hallway floor beside the curtain, a few drops spilled on the floorboards and the tiny door glowing faintly behind it.
The usual mistake is painting the cake too large, which crowds out the room around it. Keep the slice modest on its plate so there is still space for the painted floor, the curtain edge and a little shadow behind it, the same quiet hallway as the door page.
Alice’s arm reaches out of a window while her foot rests in the fireplace, the small hallway bent oddly around her new size, with the golden key still visible on its table below.
Caterpillar And Garden Pages
The five minute version here is simple: glue the page in flat, write the date along the mushroom’s shadow and move on. No border work, no extra layering, just the finished sheet and a line of ink.
Ring of mushrooms of different sizes grows in dappled grass, one nibbled edge on the largest cap, with ferns and shadows painted across the forest floor behind them.
Place this page beside the Mushrooms spread and let the cat’s grin peek into the gutter between the two sheets, so the pair reads as one woodland scene split across a journal opening.
Three playing-card gardeners kneel at a white rose bush with pots of red paint and brushes, dropped cards scattered on the grass, a garden path and hedges painted behind the whole group.
Give the bush a few roses already painted and a few still white, so the moment reads as caught mid-task rather than finished or just begun.
A reader making a reading or travel journal could write the name of a real garden visited along the path’s edge, letting the rose hedges stand in for wherever the memory took place.
Card Characters Pages
Queen of Hearts stands mid-shout in a garden archway, crown slightly crooked, pointing finger extended, with trembling card soldiers and rose bushes painted around her.
Think about who receives this page in a gift journal: a reader who loves chaos and odd games will enjoy writing beside a flamingo mid-swing more than a tidier scene, so save it for someone with a sense of humour.
Gryphon and Mock Turtle sit together on a rock by the sea, the turtle mid-sigh, a few shells and seaweed scattered near their feet and waves painted behind them.
Try a short prompt for this one: write what a race with no clear start or finish would look like in your own week, then let the words trail off near the painted waterline.
Background Papers
Knave of Hearts stands before a long table of jurors and a stack of tarts as evidence, the King and Queen seated on a raised dais, courtroom drapery painted across the back wall.
Small teacups, golden keys and pocket watches scatter in tidy rows across dusty rose and cream, perfect under a tea party photo, lining a kept ticket stub or wrapping a plain journal cover.
Red and white roses alternate in a soft damask repeat across sage green, a good match behind a pressed flower, as a cover sheet for the whole journal or lining a card character page.
Hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds repeat in faded gold and dusty rose, suited to backing the Queen of Hearts page, lining a pocket under the title page, or as a plain cover sheet.
Lined Writing Pages
Tiny mushrooms and curling smoke repeat over soft sage, well suited under a woodland photo, as a lining behind the Caterpillar page, or as a cover for a nature-themed section.
Border of tiny playing cards along the top edge frames space for a letter to your own stranger year, a line from the book you keep returning to, or a short list of odd rules you would make for your own Wonderland.
Corner sprays of teacups and spoons leave the middle open for a real guest list, a menu for an afternoon tea you hosted or hope to, or notes on the strangest conversation at a table this year.
Thin band of golden keys runs down the left side, leaving room to write about a door you opened this year, a secret kept too long, or a short list of things you still want to unlock.
Frame of small painted roses runs around all four edges, with space inside for a gardening diary entry, a recipe using roses or rosewater, or a note to whoever reads this journal next.
What to Do Next
Print the set, trim each sheet to size, and start the journal with whichever page pulls you in first, the tea party table or the tiny locked door. For more on putting pages together into a finished book, the junk journaling handbook walks through binding and layout from here.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for these Alice in Wonderland pages?
Heavyweight matte paper, 24 lb or about 90 gsm, holds the washes well without curling or letting ink bleed through. Cardstock works too if your printer feeds it, and gives a sturdier page for gluing other scraps on top later.
What printer settings give the best colour?
Choose your printer’s best or photo quality setting and matte or plain paper in the paper type menu, not glossy photo paper, so the muted palette stays soft. Borderless printing fills the sheet edge to edge, matching how each page is painted all the way to the corners.
What size should I print these pages at?
Standard US Letter or A4 suits most home journals and binds easily with other printed sheets. For a smaller pocket-sized journal, shrink the page to 85 percent before printing and trim the white margin away afterward.
Do I need to colour anything in myself?
No, every page prints fully coloured and ready to use straight from the printer. If you want to personalise a page, add writing, a small sketch in the margin, or a pressed flower on top once the page is dry and trimmed.
Can I mix these with other junk journal pages I already have?
Yes, the dusty rose and sage palette sits well next to most vintage or botanical sets. Pages from a kit like the vintage junk journal ideas collection blend in easily if you want a bigger mixed journal.
