36 Doodle Art Ideas of Sleepy Cats With Coffee, Dancing Mochi and Ducks on Scooters

9

Doodle art is the kind of drawing that asks nothing of you except a pen and a few free minutes. No sketch to plan, no big composition to worry about, just one small character doing one funny thing on the page in front of you. That is exactly why it fits into a lunch break, a waiting room or the last page of a notebook before bed.

Below you will find 36 of these tiny scenes, from a cat hugging a coffee mug to a duck on a scooter and a mochi mid-dance. Every one uses the same simple toolkit and finishes in one sitting, so pick whichever character makes you smile first and start there.

Start where every good doodle starts: with the easiest character in the list. Draw a round cat head with sleepy half-moon eyes, then a soft oval body leaning slightly forward, and give it two short paws wrapped around a mug that is almost as big as its own head.

Work in fineliner from the outline in first, head and body as one continuous curve, then the mug, then the small ears and a short curved tail. Fill the mug with coral pink marker and leave a thin white steam curl rising from the top, then add one butter yellow patch on the cat’s cheeks for warmth.

If the mug ends up too small to look oversized, just draw the cat’s paws smaller rather than redrawing the mug. A brush pen in place of the fineliner gives the outline a slightly softer, more pillowy edge.

Keep the eyes as two closed curves rather than open circles, that single choice is what reads as sleepy rather than surprised.

From one sleepy character to one full of energy: a round mochi mid dance step. Draw a simple circle body, flatten the bottom slightly so it sits, then add two short stick arms, one raised straight up and one bent at the hip, with tiny stub legs kicked to one side.

Ink the circle first and leave a small gap at the top for a dimple, mochi always has that little pinched dent. Add two dot eyes and a curved smile, then color the body butter yellow and leave the dimple and a thin crescent of highlight white to keep the round shape from looking flat.

If the raised arm looks stiff, bend it slightly at the elbow instead of keeping it a straight line, that small curve is what sells the movement. No yellow marker on hand works fine with a warm tan colored pencil instead.

Add two or three small motion lines near the raised hand to push the sense of a dance step.

Palette: Butter Yellow,Soft White

Keep the momentum going with a duck riding a scooter, a nice test of keeping a moving character balanced on the page. Draw the duck body as a rounded oval leaning forward over the handlebar, short legs bent at the scooter deck, and a small round helmet strapped under the beak.

Ink the scooter first as two thin wheels and a simple L shaped frame, then build the duck on top so its feet land exactly on the deck rather than floating beside it. Color the helmet coral pink and leave the duck’s body white, with just a butter yellow beak and feet to keep the palette from feeling thin.

If the duck looks like it is falling backward, tilt the whole body a few degrees forward over the handlebar, that lean is what reads as motion. Swap the scooter for a skateboard if wheels are tricky to draw small and even.

Draw the near wheel slightly lower than the far one, that one trick keeps the little scooter from looking like it is floating off the ground.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Slow the pace down with a quieter scene: a round bear carefully watering one flower in a small pot. Draw the bear’s body as a soft rounded triangle sitting on bent legs, with one paw tipping a small watering can and the other resting on its knee.

Ink the bear first, then the pot and flower last so the watering can spout lines up naturally above the petals. Keep the flower to one coral pink bloom with a butter yellow center rather than a whole bouquet, a single flower is what makes this doodle feel calm rather than busy.

Light sits well coming from the upper corner here: let a thin white gap along the top edge of the bear’s head and the can stand in for a highlight, no shading needed. If a watering can feels fiddly, swap it for a simple cup, the gesture of pouring reads the same either way.

Keep the water droplets to two or three small curved lines, more than that starts to clutter the little scene.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Give the page a little joke with a puppy sprawled on its back reading a book held upside down above its face. Draw the puppy lying flat, round belly up, four short paws in the air, two of them gripping the edges of an open book.

Ink the body first in one relaxed curve, then the book last, drawing it as a simple open rectangle with a few straight lines for text so it clearly reads as upside down against the puppy’s face. Keep the book cover coral pink and leave the pages white with butter yellow dots for the puppy’s cheeks.

If the paws holding the book look stiff, curve the toes slightly inward rather than drawing straight stick fingers. A small chew toy beside the puppy works as a swap if a book feels too detailed to draw small.

One tip for today: draw the ears flopped down and out to the sides rather than up, that is what makes the pose read as lying down rather than standing.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Bring in a small burst of music with a chick wearing oversized headphones and bobbing its head to a beat. Draw a simple round body with a pointed beak, then the headphones as one curved band over the head with two large circles covering where the ears would be.

Ink the chick body first, then the headphone band so it sits snugly over the head curve rather than floating above it. Color the headphones coral pink and the little body butter yellow, with a few short wavy lines beside the head to suggest the beat.

If the headphones look too big for the head, that is actually the point here, oversized gear on a tiny character is what makes the doodle funny. If you do not have two marker colors on hand, outline the headphones in fineliner only and leave them white.

Tilt the head a few degrees to one side rather than drawing it straight on, that tilt alone makes the chick look like it is moving to music.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

If you enjoy drawing little musical moments like this one, a whole music doodle list keeps the same playful energy going.

Shift to a tiny character on a tiny mission: a hamster carrying one sunflower seed strapped to its back like a backpack. Draw the hamster’s round body walking on two short legs, then the seed as a simple pointed oval sitting between two thin strap lines over the shoulders.

Ink the hamster first, then the seed and straps last so the straps clearly cross over the back rather than floating beside it. Keep the seed’s stripes in fineliner only and color the hamster’s cheeks butter yellow, with a coral pink line for the strap.

If the seed looks too flat against the back, add one short curved line underneath it to suggest it sits slightly away from the body, a small shadow trick that gives it weight. A small nut or berry works just as well as a swap if a sunflower seed feels fiddly to shape.

Give the hamster one raised cheek pouch even without food in it, that little bulge is what makes the face read as a hamster rather than a mouse.

Palette: Butter Yellow,Coral Pink

Try a bit of hide and seek next with a cat peeking out of a paper bag, only its head and two paws visible over the folded edge. Draw the bag first as a simple trapezoid with a few straight crease lines, then the cat’s round head resting on the rim with two paws hooked over either side.

Ink the bag outline before the cat so the paws land naturally along the top fold rather than floating above it. Leave the bag plain in fineliner with a faint butter yellow wash for warmth, and give the cat coral pink inner ears as the one accent spot.

If the cat’s head looks too large for the bag opening, narrow the bag’s top edge slightly rather than shrinking the whole head, a snug fit is what makes the gag work. A small basket or box doodles the same way if a paper bag is not the shape you want.

Draw the bag’s crease lines slightly uneven rather than perfectly straight, that small imperfection is what makes paper look like paper.

Palette: Butter Yellow,Coral Pink

Give this round bear a phone and a wide grin: a bear taking a selfie with one paw stretched out holding a tiny phone. Draw the bear’s head and shoulders first, big smiling mouth and round cheeks, then the extended arm reaching slightly off to one side with the phone held flat at the end.

Ink the face and body before the phone so the arm’s angle feels natural rather than stuck on. Keep the phone screen a plain white rectangle with a thin coral pink frame, and add two small butter yellow cheek dots for warmth.

If the arm looks too short to hold a phone out in front, lengthen it slightly past where feels natural, selfie arms are always a bit longer than real arms. No phone to reference means you can just draw a plain rounded rectangle, the shape reads instantly.

Add two or three small sparkle marks near the bear’s face, that tiny detail turns a plain portrait into a clearly excited selfie moment.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Switch from animals to a soft weather character: a small cloud holding an open umbrella over one little flower below it. Draw the cloud as a row of overlapping bumps, then two thin stick arms, one holding the umbrella handle slightly off to the side so it shelters the flower rather than the cloud itself.

Ink the cloud shape first, then the umbrella canopy as a simple curved fan with straight spoke lines, and the flower last underneath it. Color the umbrella coral pink and give the flower a butter yellow center, leaving the cloud plain white.

If the umbrella looks too flat, curve the bottom edge slightly upward at each spoke point rather than leaving it a straight line, that small curve gives it volume. A single raindrop or two falling outside the umbrella’s edge adds a nice touch if there is room.

Draw the cloud’s bumps uneven in size rather than identical, that variation is what keeps a simple cloud shape from looking stiff.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Give a puppy its own art supplies: a small easel, a brush gripped in its mouth, and one wobbly stroke of color already on the canvas. Draw the easel first as three simple straight legs holding a small rectangle canvas, then the puppy sitting in front of it with the brush angled out of its mouth toward the canvas.

Ink the easel and canvas before the puppy so the brush tip lines up with a mark already on the canvas rather than floating in empty space. Paint that one mark coral pink, and give the puppy a butter yellow smudge of paint on one paw for a nice little accident.

If the brush in the mouth looks awkward, draw it resting along the side of the jaw rather than straight out of the center, dogs hold things slightly sideways. A pencil instead of a brush works as a swap and reads just as clearly.

Keep the canvas mark to one loose curved stroke rather than a finished picture, that half-done look is what makes the joke land.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Move into a bit of a workout scene with a cat stretched long on a small rolled out mat, front paws reaching forward and back arched up. Draw the mat first as a simple flattened rectangle, then the cat’s body as one long curved line from nose to tail with the back forming a gentle arch in the middle.

Ink the mat edges before the cat so the paws and tail clearly sit on top of it rather than beside it. Color the mat coral pink and leave the cat plain with just butter yellow stripes along the back for a little pattern.

If the stretch looks stiff, exaggerate the arch in the back a touch more than feels natural, cats stretch further than most people expect when drawing them. A folded towel works fine instead of a mat if the rectangle shape feels easier without the rolled edges.

Point both front paws slightly forward and spread the toes a little, that small detail is what makes a stretch read as a stretch rather than just a sitting pose.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Cool things down with a frog sitting back, eyes half closed in contentment, sipping bubble tea through a straw that is nearly as wide as its own head. Draw the frog’s round body and bulging eyes first, then the cup held in both front legs with a thick straight straw leading up to the mouth.

Ink the frog before the cup so the straw lines up exactly with the mouth rather than drifting off to one side. Color the tea coral pink and dot a few small circles at the bottom of the cup in fineliner for the tapioca pearls, leaving the frog itself butter yellow green or plain.

If the straw looks too thin to be believable as a bubble tea straw, thicken it, the joke depends on it looking oversized. A juice box or a simple glass with a thin straw works as a swap if the wide straw feels tricky to draw straight.

Draw the frog’s eyes as two small half circles rather than full circles, that gives the sleepy, satisfied look this scene needs.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Here the trick is proportion: the ball needs to look genuinely large against the seal’s small flippers, or the balance act will not read. Measure the ball against the seal’s head first, roughly one and a half times its width, before you ink either shape.

Draw the seal’s smooth tapered body first, nose tipped up, then the ball balanced at the very tip of the nose as a circle divided into curved segments. Color alternating segments coral pink and butter yellow, and keep the seal’s body a plain gray or leave it white with just a fineliner outline.

If the ball looks like it is sitting beside the nose rather than on top of it, add one small curved line where the nose touches the ball’s underside, that contact line is what sells the balance. A simple striped beach ball pattern works whether you use two colors or four.

Today’s tip: keep the seal’s flippers relaxed and down rather than raised, the whole joke is that the nose is doing all the work.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Think about eye level before you start this one: drawing the bicycle slightly from the side, wheels at the same height on the page, keeps the bear from looking like it is riding uphill. Sketch the two wheels first as simple circles on the same baseline, then the frame connecting them, then the bear sitting upright with paws on the handlebars.

Ink the wheels and frame before the bear so the paws land correctly on the pedals and grips. Add a small basket on the front handlebar with one coral pink flower poking out, and give the bear a butter yellow scarf trailing slightly behind for a sense of movement.

If the bicycle looks lopsided, check that both wheels touch the same horizontal line, that single check fixes most bicycle doodles. A simple tricycle with three wheels is an easier swap if two-wheel balance feels tricky to draw convincingly.

Let the scarf end flick upward slightly rather than hanging straight down, that small flick is what suggests the bicycle is actually moving.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Give a dog a bit of character with a small beret tilted on its head and a tiny camera held up to one eye. Draw the head first, floppy ears and a round snout, then the beret as a flattened circle sitting at an angle rather than straight on top, and finally the camera held in both front paws up near the face.

Ink the head and beret before the camera so the strap line can wrap naturally around the neck. Color the beret coral pink and add one butter yellow highlight square on the camera lens to suggest a flash catching the light.

If the beret looks like it is floating above the head, tuck its bottom edge slightly behind one ear, that overlap anchors it in place. A simple flat cap works as a swap if the beret’s soft curve feels harder to shape.

Tilt the head a touch to one side while the camera stays level, that contrast is what makes the pose feel like a real photographer moment rather than a stiff portrait.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Here the texture trick matters most: a slightly dry, scratchy line along the towel’s edge reads as soft fabric far better than a perfectly smooth outline. Draw the cat’s round head and body first, one paw raised to the face, then the towel draped over that paw as a small rounded rectangle with a few wavy fold lines.

Ink the cat before the towel, then go back over the towel’s outer edge with slightly broken, uneven strokes rather than one continuous line. Color the towel coral pink and leave the cat plain, adding a few butter yellow patches if you like a calico look.

If the raised paw looks stiff, bend it slightly at the wrist toward the face rather than holding it straight up. A folded napkin works fine as a swap for the towel and doodles just as quickly.

Keep the eyes closed or half closed here too, a washing cat always looks a little sleepy and content mid task.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Rest the pace here with a small chick curled up fast asleep inside a teacup, wings tucked in and head resting on the rim. Draw the teacup first as a simple rounded shape with a small handle, then the chick fitted snugly inside it, round body filling most of the cup.

Ink the cup before the chick so the body’s curve matches the inside edge of the cup rather than overlapping it awkwardly. Color the cup coral pink with a thin butter yellow band near the rim, and leave the chick plain with closed eyes and a tiny smile.

If the chick looks too small inside the cup, that gap actually works in this doodle’s favor, a little extra space makes the scene feel cozier. A small basket or shoe works as a swap for the teacup if you want a different container.

Draw one small steam curl rising beside the cup even without tea in it, it quietly suggests warmth around the sleeping chick.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Bring the energy back up with a hamster mid lift, both paws gripping a small dumbbell overhead and a proud grin on its face. Draw the round body in a wide stable stance first, then the arms raised straight up holding the dumbbell as two small circles connected by a short bar.

Ink the body before the dumbbell so the paws wrap naturally around the bar rather than floating beside it. Color the dumbbell weights coral pink and give the hamster a butter yellow belly patch, keeping the rest of the fur in plain fineliner.

If the arms look too thin to hold weight convincingly, thicken them slightly at the shoulder, a small adjustment that reads as strength. A barbell with a longer bar works as a swap if a dumbbell shape feels fiddly at this size.

Add a few small sweat drop marks near the head, that tiny detail turns a static pose into one that feels like real effort.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Settle into a quieter craft scene: a bear sitting cross legged with two long knitting needles and a small growing strip of fabric between them. Draw the seated bear first, round body and crossed legs, then the two needles crossing at an angle in front of the chest, with a short zigzag line of yarn connecting them to a ball of wool beside the bear.

Ink the bear before the needles so they rest naturally in the paws rather than floating in front of the body. Color the yarn ball and the knitted strip coral pink, and give the bear a butter yellow sweater patch as a nod to what is being made.

If the needles look too short to read as knitting needles, lengthen them well past the paws, exaggerated length is what makes the tool recognizable at this small size. A single crochet hook with a shorter loop of yarn works as a simpler swap.

Keep the knitted strip loose and uneven rather than a neat grid, a slightly wobbly row of stitches is more charming than a perfect one.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Keep the cozy mood going with a koala hugging a pillow close to its chest, eyes drooping in a mid yawn. Draw the koala’s round fuzzy head first, big ears out to the sides, then the body curled slightly forward around a plump pillow held in both arms.

Ink the koala before the pillow so the arms wrap over the pillow’s edge rather than resting beside it. Color the pillow coral pink with a thin butter yellow piping line around the edge, and leave the koala’s fur plain with small scribbled texture marks at the ear tips.

If the yawn looks more like a frown, open the mouth into a small oval rather than a flat curved line, that shape change alone reads as a yawn. A rolled blanket works as a swap for the pillow if a plump cushion shape feels harder to draw.

Add one small sleepy droplet near the eye, that tiny mark pushes the whole pose further into cozy, about to nod off territory.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

If pillows, quilts and sleepy characters like this one are your favorite kind of doodle, the cozy art ideas list has plenty more in that mood.

Here is a good spot for the ten minute versus forty minute version. In ten minutes, draw the puppy pushing a simple wire cart outline with one apple inside, done in fineliner with just one marker accent. Draw the cart first as a small rectangle on two wheels with a few cross lines for the wire look, then the puppy behind it, both front paws on the handle.

Ink the cart before the puppy so the handle height lines up with where the paws naturally rest. For the forty minute version, add a second item or two in the cart, a loose scribble texture on the wire sides, and a little determined eyebrow line on the puppy’s face for extra personality.

Color the apple coral pink and give the cart handle a butter yellow grip. If the cart’s wheels look uneven, keep them small and close together rather than wide apart, that keeps a shaky circle from standing out.

Either version works, the apple alone is enough to tell the whole story.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Send a cat off on a small adventure with a backpack on its shoulders and a folded map held open in both paws. Draw the cat standing upright first, then the backpack straps crossing over the shoulders from behind, and finally the map held out in front as a simple folded rectangle with a few wavy lines for terrain.

Ink the cat before the backpack straps so they sit correctly over the shoulder curve. Color the backpack coral pink and the map’s terrain lines butter yellow, keeping the cat itself in plain fineliner so the gear stands out.

If the map looks flat and boring, fold one corner down slightly rather than keeping it a perfect rectangle, that small fold suggests it has been opened and refolded many times. A compass held in one paw works as a swap if a map feels like too many small lines to draw.

Give the cat one ear perked forward and one relaxed back, that asymmetry suggests curiosity better than two matching upright ears.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Try a scene with a bit of motion in the air: a sheep leaning forward, cheeks puffed, blowing the seeds off a dandelion held in one hoof. Draw the sheep’s fluffy round body first, scribbled wool texture along the back, then the head leaning forward with puffed cheeks, and the dandelion stem held just below the mouth.

Ink the sheep before the dandelion so the stem lines up correctly with the mouth. Draw a handful of small floating seed shapes drifting away from the dandelion head rather than a cloud of dozens, three or four is enough to read clearly. Color the dandelion head butter yellow and the sheep’s cheeks a light coral pink flush.

If the puffed cheeks look odd, round them out further than feels natural, an exaggerated puff is what makes the blowing action clear. A candle works as a swap for the dandelion if you prefer a birthday themed version of this same pose.

Angle the floating seeds slightly away from the sheep’s mouth in one direction, that consistency is what makes them look blown rather than scattered at random.

Palette: Butter Yellow,Coral Pink

Give the page a moment of total relaxation: a pig wrapped in a loose bathrobe, one trotter holding a small cup of tea. Draw the pig’s round body first, then the bathrobe as a simple wrap with a tied belt and a wide collar folded open at the neck, and finally the teacup held up near the snout.

Ink the pig before the robe so the belt line sits naturally around the middle. Color the robe coral pink with a thin butter yellow trim along the collar, and leave the teacup plain with just a small steam curl rising above it.

If the robe looks stiff, add two or three soft fold lines near the belt rather than leaving the fabric perfectly flat, folds are what make fabric look like fabric instead of a solid shape. A towel wrapped around the shoulders works as a quicker swap for the full robe.

Keep the pig’s eyes relaxed and slightly closed, that detail finishes the sleepy, pampered feeling of the whole scene.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

A step by step look at drawing steam and foam in the cup itself is worth trying next in the coffee drawing lessons.

Add a bit of weather and movement with a duckling mid jump into a small puddle, rain boots on all four feet, wings out for balance. Draw the duckling’s body first, slightly airborne with legs tucked up, then the small round boots on each foot, and finally the puddle below as a simple flattened oval with a splash line.

Ink the duckling before the puddle so the splash marks clearly rise from where the boots are about to land. Color the boots coral pink and the puddle’s splash lines butter yellow, leaving the duckling’s body plain yellow or white.

If the jump looks flat, raise the duckling’s body higher above the puddle than feels natural and tuck the legs up tighter, exaggeration is what sells a jump in a still image. A simple rain cloud doodle above adds a nice touch if there is room on the page.

Draw two or three short curved splash lines rather than a solid blob, that gives the puddle a lighter, splashier feel.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Bring music back into the mix with a bear sitting on a small round stool, strumming a ukulele resting against its round belly. Draw the stool first as three simple legs and a round seat, then the bear sitting on top, and finally the ukulele held diagonally across the chest with four thin strings.

Ink the stool and bear before the ukulele so the instrument sits naturally in the crook of one arm. Color the ukulele body coral pink and add a butter yellow sound hole circle in the center, keeping the strings in plain fineliner.

If the ukulele looks too large against the bear, narrow its waist shape slightly rather than shrinking it overall, a slimmer hourglass shape reads correctly at small sizes. A small guitar works as a swap if a ukulele’s rounder body feels trickier to balance.

Add two or three short curved lines near the strings, that tiny detail is what makes the instrument look like it is actually being strummed.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Give the page some bounce with a cat up on its hind legs, juggling two balls of yarn mid air. Draw the cat’s body balanced upright first, tail out for counterweight, then the two yarn balls positioned at different heights above the paws with loose trailing yarn ends.

Ink the cat before the yarn balls so the paws reaching up line up naturally underneath them. Color one ball coral pink and the other butter yellow, with a few short scribbled lines on each to suggest the wound yarn texture.

If the juggling pose looks unbalanced, spread the back legs slightly wider for a stronger base, that wider stance keeps an upright cat from looking like it is about to topple. Two small beanbags work as a swap for yarn balls if the trailing ends feel fussy to draw.

Let the tail curve upward in a question mark shape, that small flourish adds energy to the whole pose without any extra drawing.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Scale matters most here: the strawberry needs to look genuinely big compared to the mouse, almost the size of its whole body, for the balloon joke to land. Draw the mouse first, small and simple, standing with one paw raised, then the strawberry above it attached by a thin curved stem line like a balloon string.

Ink the mouse before the strawberry so the string lines up with the raised paw correctly. Color the strawberry coral pink with small butter yellow seed dots scattered across it, leaving the mouse plain gray or white.

If the strawberry looks too heavy to float convincingly, curve the string slightly rather than keeping it a straight taut line, a gentle curve suggests buoyancy the way a real balloon string does. A cherry on a short stem works as a swap if a strawberry’s seed texture feels fussy at this size.

Keep the mouse’s feet small and light on the ground, bigger feet make it look like it is anchoring something heavy rather than something floaty.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Keep the fun rolling with a dog gliding along on roller skates, one lollipop held up in its mouth. Draw the dog’s body leaning slightly forward first, legs spread wide in a skating stance, then the small roller skates at the end of each leg with a few round wheel dots underneath.

Ink the dog before the skates so the wheels line up directly under the paws. Color the lollipop coral pink with a swirl pattern in fineliner, and give the skates a butter yellow wheel accent.

If the skating stance looks static, widen the front and back leg positions further apart than feels natural, a bigger stride reads as motion much better than a narrow stance. A scooter works as a swap for skates if wheels under each paw feel like too many small shapes.

Add two short motion lines trailing behind the back legs, that detail alone makes the whole dog look like it is actually gliding rather than standing still.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Slow back down with a small, quiet scene: a hamster curled up fast asleep right on top of an open laptop keyboard. Draw the laptop first as a simple open rectangle base and screen, then the hamster curled into a round ball sitting across the keys, one paw hanging slightly over the edge.

Ink the laptop before the hamster so the curled body sits correctly within the keyboard area rather than overlapping the screen. Color the laptop screen a soft butter yellow glow and leave the hamster plain, with a coral pink nose as the one small accent.

If the hamster looks like it is floating above the keys rather than resting on them, add a few short curved lines where the body touches the keyboard, that small contact detail grounds the pose. A small open book works as a swap for the laptop if a rectangle screen feels fussier to draw.

Keep the screen glow as one soft flat rectangle rather than detailed text or icons, simplicity is what keeps this little scene feeling cozy rather than busy.

Palette: Butter Yellow,Coral Pink

Give a small chick a household chore with a bit of humor: standing on tiptoe, pushing a tiny iron across a shirt laid out on a miniature board. Draw the ironing board first as a simple narrow oval on thin legs, then the shirt laid flat across it, and finally the chick standing beside it pushing the iron with both wings.

Ink the board and shirt before the chick so the iron’s position lines up correctly against the fabric. Color the shirt coral pink and the iron’s base butter yellow, with a short curved steam line rising from its tip.

If the iron looks too big for the chick to push, that oversized tool is exactly the joke, keep it a little larger than feels proportionate. A small rolling pin on a cutting board works as a swap if ironing feels like an odd scene to set up.

Add one small wrinkle line left on the unironed half of the shirt, that tiny before and after detail tells the whole story in one glance.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Keep the chores theme going with a bear pushing a small upright vacuum, big round smile on its face despite the task. Draw the bear’s body first, leaning slightly forward with one paw gripping the vacuum handle, then the vacuum itself as a simple tall rectangle body on a round base.

Ink the bear before the vacuum so the handle angle matches the paw’s grip naturally. Color the vacuum body coral pink and give it a butter yellow dust bag window, with a few small dust particle dots trailing behind the base.

If the vacuum looks too thin to stand on its own, widen the base slightly, a wider foot keeps a tall narrow shape from tipping visually. A simple broom works as a swap for the vacuum and needs even fewer lines to draw.

Keep the bear’s smile wide and the eyes slightly squinted with effort, that combination is what makes chores look cheerful rather than tedious in a doodle.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Add a last bit of action with a cat riding a skateboard, one paw raised in the air for balance and a confident grin on its face. Draw the skateboard deck first as a simple narrow oval with two small wheel pairs underneath, then the cat standing on top with its back legs bent and one front paw raised high.

Ink the board before the cat so the paws land correctly on the deck’s surface. Color the deck coral pink with a thin butter yellow stripe down the middle, and leave the cat plain with just a confident squared off smile.

If the pose looks flat, tilt the skateboard deck slightly at one end as though it is popping up off the ground, that small tilt adds the sense of a trick in progress. A simple surfboard shape works as a swap if wheels at this scale feel fiddly.

Draw the raised paw with spread toes rather than a closed fist shape, that small detail reads as a confident balance gesture.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

Close the kitchen scenes with a puppy up on its hind legs, one paw reaching into a tall cookie jar, caught mid sneak with a guilty little smile. Draw the jar first as a simple rounded container with a lid tipped slightly off to one side, then the puppy standing on hind legs beside it, one paw already inside holding a cookie.

Ink the jar before the puppy so the reaching paw clearly overlaps the jar’s opening rather than floating beside it. Color the cookie coral pink with small butter yellow dot details for chocolate chips, and leave the jar itself in plain fineliner with a few crumb marks scattered at its base.

If the guilty expression is not landing, angle the eyebrows slightly inward and up rather than straight across, that small shift reads as caught in the act rather than simply happy. A biscuit tin works as a swap for the jar if a rounded lid feels trickier to shape.

Scatter two or three small crumbs near the paw print on the ground, that tiny detail finishes the story of the sneaky snack.

Palette: Coral Pink,Butter Yellow

End on the slowest, coziest note of the whole page: a sloth hanging from a branch by one arm, the other holding a small cup of tea up near its sleepy smile. Draw the branch first as a simple diagonal line with a few short twig marks, then the sloth’s body curled underneath it, one long arm hooked over the branch and the other bent to hold the cup.

Ink the branch before the sloth so the hooked arm wraps convincingly around it rather than resting beside it. Color the teacup coral pink with a thin butter yellow band near the rim, and leave the sloth’s fur in plain fineliner with a few soft scribbled texture lines along the arms.

If the hanging pose looks stiff, let the body sway slightly to one side rather than hanging perfectly vertical, a gentle lean suggests the slow swinging motion sloths are known for. A hammock works as a swap for the branch if a hanging pose feels harder to balance on the page.

Keep the eyes drawn as two small closed curves and the mouth as a soft gentle line, that combination finishes the whole page on the calmest note possible.

If slow, cozy little scenes like this one are your favorite part of doodling, cozy drawing ideas has a whole list built around that same mood.

What to Do Next

Pick whichever character made you smile first, grab a fineliner and one or two markers, and start with the outline, no pencil needed. A plain sketchbook page or a sheet of smooth marker paper is all this list really asks for.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pens work best for doodle art like this?

A black fineliner in a fine tip, around 0.3 to 0.5, gives the clean outline these doodles need. Add two alcohol or dual tip markers in your accent colors for quick, even fills without needing a whole set.

Do I need to sketch these in pencil first?

Not for most of these subjects. Draw straight in fineliner, building each character from one or two simple shapes first, since a little wobble in the line is part of the doodle charm, not a flaw to erase.

How do I keep my doodle characters looking consistent across a page?

Keep the same eye shape, line weight and proportion rules each time, such as big heads and short limbs. Repeating those few choices across different animals is what makes a page of doodles feel like one set.

What if I only have one marker color on hand?

Use it for the smaller accent spots, like a nose, a strap or a steam curl, and leave the rest of the doodle in plain fineliner. A single color accent still reads clearly against black and white.
