32 Dinosaur Doodle Ideas of Tiny Arms, Hatching Eggs and Cloud Snacks

4

A dinosaur doodle is the fastest way to turn five minutes and a pen into something that makes you grin. These little reptiles are built for comedy: short arms, long necks, heavy tails, and all of it drawn in a few rounded lines that forgive every wobble.

Below you get 32 small scenes to pick from, from a sleepy hatchling to a triceratops charging a beach ball, each one sized to finish today with a black fineliner and a couple of markers for accent color.

Start the whole sheet with a baby T-rex trying and failing to reach its own toes, since it only needs two curved body shapes and a lot of personality. Draw a round belly first, then a smaller round head tipped forward, and let the two tiny arms stretch down without ever quite touching the tall curved toes below.

Work in fineliner from the head down to the feet so the proportions stay believable, then add the open mouth and straining eyebrows last. Most beginners draw the arms too long here, which kills the joke, so keep them stubby and close to the chest.

Color the belly patch and the three toes in tangerine orange, leaving the rest of the body white so the gesture stays the star. If your fineliner skips on the curved belly line, switch to a fine ballpoint for that one stroke and go back over it with pen once it is dry.

Give the eyebrows a steep diagonal angle and the whole doodle gets funnier instantly.

Once the T-rex is warming up your hand, try a stegosaurus wearing a tiny backpack on its way to school, since the plates along its back give you a natural place to add color later. Block in a long low body with four stumpy legs, then add the row of pointed plates along the spine before anything else, spacing them evenly by eye.

Draw the backpack straps crossing the shoulder last so they sit on top of the body line instead of cutting through it. If the plates end up looking uneven, a kneaded eraser lifts the worst one so you can redraw it without starting the whole doodle over.

Fill alternating plates in lime green and tangerine orange, and color the backpack solid orange so it reads at a glance. No lime marker on hand works fine too, since a yellow-green pencil gives nearly the same cheerful contrast.

Keep the legs short and round rather than straight, and the whole creature feels friendlier immediately.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange,Carbon Black

Look at a real stegosaurus skeleton diagram once, just for the plate spacing, then forget accuracy entirely and draw them as fun as you like.

Bridge from the backpack scene into a baby dino hatching from a cracked egg with a sleepy face, since eggs are one of the easiest shapes in the whole set. Draw the oval egg first, break the top third into two jagged pieces, then tuck the dino’s round head and one small arm into the gap between them.

Keep the eyes as two sleepy curved lines instead of circles, since open round eyes make the hatchling look startled rather than drowsy. If the crack line ends up too straight, go back over it with short overlapping zigzags until it looks properly broken.

Color the eggshell interior in tangerine orange and leave the exterior white with a few lime green speckles scattered across the shell. A brown fineliner swapped in for the speckles works just as well if orange feels too warm for this one.

Draw the crack a little lower on one side than the other, and the egg instantly looks more natural than a perfectly symmetrical split.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Give the long necks their turn with a brachiosaurus nibbling a fluffy cloud like cotton candy, which plays with scale more than any idea so far. Sketch the tiny head and the long curving neck first, running it almost off the top of the page, then build the small body and thick legs well below it.

Place the eye level low on the head and tip it slightly upward, since a dinosaur looking up at its own snack sells the joke better than a head drawn straight ahead. Draw the cloud last in soft bumpy loops around the mouth so it looks like it is actually being bitten into.

Color the cloud in a light lime green wash from a marker and leave the body white, letting the green stand in for cotton candy fluff. If your only green marker runs too dark, scribble it on scrap paper first to soften the tip before touching the real page.

Tilt the neck in a gentle S curve rather than a straight diagonal, and the whole pose relaxes into something much more charming.

Palette: Lime Green,Carbon Black

Keep the short arm jokes rolling with a T-rex trying to clap with its tiny arms and missing, a pose built almost entirely from how close together you draw the two stubby hands. Start with the big head and open mouth mid cheer, then bring the two little arms toward the center of the chest but leave a visible gap between the claws.

Add motion lines, two or three short curved strokes near each hand, to show the clap is happening and simply not connecting. If the gap between the hands reads as too small and the clap looks successful, widen it until the miss is obvious.

Color only the motion lines and the open mouth in tangerine orange, keeping the body outline plain so the eye goes straight to the failed clap. A couple of light pencil dashes work as a stand in for motion lines if you are out of orange marker.

Draw the mouth wide open mid laugh rather than neutral, and the frustration reads as joy instead.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Carbon Black

Move into full motion with a triceratops charging at a beach ball with great determination, a scene that leans entirely on where you put the eye in relation to the target. Draw the sturdy frilled head low and angled forward, aim the three horns directly at the ball, and set the legs mid stride with the back pair stretched out behind.

Keep the eyes narrowed into small determined slits rather than round dots, since round eyes read as curious instead of focused. Add a short dust cloud or a couple of speed lines behind the back legs once the main body is finished.

Color the beach ball in alternating lime green and tangerine panels, and leave the triceratops itself plain black line so the colorful target stands out clearly. If stripes feel fiddly, three or four wedge panels instead of many thin ones still read as a beach ball at doodle size.

Angle the frill slightly back like it is catching the wind, and the charge looks twice as fast.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Follow the charge with something gentler, a T-rex trying to hug a friend with arms that are far too short, which is really the clap idea reworked into two characters instead of one. Place the T-rex slightly larger and leaning forward with both arms spread as wide as they go, then draw a small round friend, maybe a tiny bird or lizard, standing just out of reach.

Leave a clear gap between the T-rex’s claws and the friend’s body so the hug visibly cannot land, and tip the T-rex’s head down and forward to show the effort. If the two figures end up overlapping by accident, erase and nudge the smaller one further away rather than shrinking the arms more than they already are.

Color the friend in solid lime green and give the T-rex a single tangerine orange belly patch so the two characters stay visually separate. A smiling cloud or simple bug can stand in for the friend if a lizard feels fussy to draw.

Draw both characters with closed, happy eyes, and the near miss feels sweet rather than sad.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Give the ground dwellers a break with a pterodactyl carrying a little bucket in its claws, a quick flying subject built from one long wing shape repeated on both sides. Draw the pointed head and long beak first, then sweep both wings back in matching curves, and finish with the clawed feet gripping the bucket handle below the body.

Keep the wings asymmetrical in angle rather than mirror images, since a slight tilt on one wing makes the glide look natural instead of stiff. If the claws around the bucket handle get too fiddly, a single curved hook shape reads as gripping without drawing every individual claw.

Color the bucket in solid tangerine orange and leave the pterodactyl plain, maybe with one lime green stripe down the beak for contrast. A small basket or shell shape swaps in for the bucket if you want a softer silhouette.

Tilt the whole body slightly downward on one side, and the glide reads as an actual flight path rather than a floating pose.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Bring the eggs back for a baby dino hiding inside the bottom half of its eggshell, a shy cousin to the hatchling idea from earlier. Draw the bottom half of the broken shell as a wide bowl shape first, then tuck the baby dino’s head and shoulders down inside it so only the eyes and the top of the head peek over the rim.

Keep the eyes large and round this time, since wide eyes paired with a hidden body read as peeking rather than sleeping. If the shell rim and the dino’s shoulders start to blend together, darken the shell’s edge slightly with a second fineliner pass so the two shapes separate clearly.

Color the shell interior in lime green and leave the peeking dino plain white with just a tangerine orange nose dot. A teacup shape makes a fine stand in for the shell if ovals feel tricky to keep even.

Draw one tiny hand gripping the shell rim, and the shy hiding pose instantly feels more alive.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Carry the shy mood upward with a long necked dino peeking shyly over a cloud, a composition that depends on how low you set the eye line on the page. Draw one wide fluffy cloud shape across the lower half of the frame first, then raise just the head and the very top of the neck above it, keeping the rest of the body completely hidden.

Set the eyes close together and half lidded, since that reads as bashful far more than wide round eyes would. If the neck looks too thin to support the head once it is inked, thicken the base where it meets the cloud rather than the whole length, which keeps the proportions from looking top heavy.

Color the cloud in lime green and leave the dino’s head plain, adding one small tangerine orange blush mark on the cheek. Cotton wool texture or a scribbled pencil cloud works as a stand in if the marker feels too heavy for such a light shape.

Draw the cloud slightly wider than the page center, and the peeking head feels more like a surprise.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Return to the plated dinosaur for a stegosaurus proudly showing off its colorful back plates, a pose that works best drawn from a three quarter angle rather than straight from the side. Draw the body turned slightly toward the viewer so more of the plate row is visible at once, then puff the chest out a little and lift the chin for the proud expression.

Space the plates with the largest in the middle and smaller ones tapering toward the head and tail, which mimics how real stegosaurus plates are arranged and looks more balanced too. If the plates come out too even and stiff, vary two or three heights slightly by eye once the ink is dry and you can see the full row.

Color every other plate in lime green and tangerine orange alternating down the spine, leaving the body itself plain black line. Colored pencil works as a softer alternative to marker if you want the plates to look slightly less flat.

Draw a tiny sparkle mark near the tallest plate, and the proud showing off becomes obvious at a glance.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Bring the comedy back indoors with a T-rex trying to make its bed with tiny arms, pairing the familiar short arm joke with a quick household prop. Draw a simple rectangular bed shape first, then place the T-rex standing beside it leaning forward, both tiny arms stretched toward a rumpled blanket corner that stays just out of their grasp.

Keep the blanket drawn with a few loose wavy lines rather than a perfectly flat rectangle, since a slightly messy blanket sells the struggle better than a neat one. If the bed and the dinosaur end up competing for space, draw the bed smaller than feels natural, since a slightly undersized bed makes the short arm gap read more clearly.

Color the blanket in tangerine orange and the pillow in lime green, keeping the T-rex itself plain for contrast. A simple folded towel shape substitutes for the blanket if bedding feels fussy to draw at this size.

Give the T-rex a furrowed brow rather than a smile, and the determined struggle becomes the whole joke.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Keep the short arm series going with a T-rex holding an ice cream cone it cannot bring to its mouth, which only needs one small prop and a wide gap to work. Draw the head tilted forward with the mouth open and straining, then place the ice cream cone gripped in one tiny hand held well below chin height, with a visible stretch of empty space between cone and mouth.

Add a drip or two running down the cone to show time passing while the T-rex struggles, which adds a second laugh on top of the first. If the cone looks like it is floating rather than gripped, add a small curved line around it to suggest the claw wrapping around the base.

Color the ice cream scoop in lime green and the cone itself in tangerine orange, leaving the T-rex plain. A simple lollipop shape swaps in easily if cones feel tricky to balance at this size.

Draw a long dramatic tongue stretching toward the cone, and the whole doodle gets instantly sillier.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Give the tail a starring role with an ankylosaurus playing a drum with its club tail, a fun chance to draw a heavy armored body and a swinging motion at once. Draw the low wide body covered in small bumpy armor plates first, then curve the tail out behind and end it in the rounded club shape, mid swing toward a small drum set just off to one side.

Add two or three curved motion lines trailing the tail club to show it mid strike, and tilt the drum slightly so it looks like it just absorbed the hit. If the armor bumps along the back start to look like random scribbles, line them up in two or three neat rows instead of scattering them freely.

Color the drum in tangerine orange and a couple of the back plates in lime green for rhythm, leaving the rest of the body plain. A simple round pot shape stands in for the drum if you want an even quicker version.

Draw musical note marks bouncing above the drum, and the whole scene reads as music instantly.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

For a quick version, skip the body armor detail entirely and focus the ten minutes on the swinging tail and the drum; add the armor rows only if you want the fuller forty minute version.

Zoom in close for a baby T-rex doing its fiercest roar and looking adorable instead, a portrait style doodle that lives entirely in the face. Draw a big round head filling most of the space, then open the mouth wide with small blunt teeth and squeeze the eyebrows down into what is meant to be a scowl.

Keep the eyes large and round even while the brows frown, since big round eyes paired with an angry brow always reads as cute rather than scary. If the roar ends up looking genuinely fierce instead of charming, soften the teeth into rounded bumps rather than sharp points and the whole expression relaxes.

Color two tiny cheek spots in tangerine orange and leave everything else plain black line so the close up face stays the focus. A smaller body sketched below the head is optional, since the face alone carries the whole joke.

Draw one small arm raised in a fist, and the tiny roar instantly feels more determined.

Palette: Tangerine Orange

Slow the pace with a dino relaxing in a warm puddle like a hot tub, a scene that is mostly about getting the eye level right for a creature half submerged. Draw a simple rounded puddle shape first, then set the dino’s body sitting low inside it with only the head, back, and tail tip showing above the waterline.

Place the eye level of the whole drawing at the water’s surface so the dinosaur looks properly settled in rather than floating above it. If the body looks like it is sitting on top of the puddle instead of in it, overlap the puddle outline slightly over the dinosaur’s lower edge and that single overlap fixes the depth.

Color the puddle in lime green with a few tangerine orange bubble dots rising from the surface. A simple pond or tide pool shape works as a swap if a puddle feels too small a setting.

Draw closed, happy eyes and a small smile, and the relaxed mood comes through immediately.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Build on the puddle’s calm mood with a long necked dino letting a little friend use its neck as a slide, a two character scene that depends on a smooth curved line from head to tail. Draw the long neck first in one confident sweeping curve from high at the head down low at the shoulders, then add a tiny friend, maybe a small bird or lizard, partway down the curve with its arms out like it is mid slide.

Keep the neck curve continuous rather than drawing it in choppy segments, since one smooth stroke reads as a slide far better than a wobbly line does. If the curve comes out uneven, go over it lightly in pencil first and trace with fineliner once the shape feels right.

Color the little friend in tangerine orange and give the long neck a single lime green stripe running down its length to suggest motion. A ramp or a rainbow shape can stand in for the neck if you want to draw this scene without the dinosaur at all.

Draw three small motion lines trailing the friend, and the slide feels like it is actually moving.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Keep the sweetness going with a dino stomping along and leaving heart shaped footprints, an idea that turns a simple walking pose into something unexpectedly tender. Draw the dinosaur mid stride first, one leg forward and one back, then work down to the feet and shape each one as a rounded heart instead of a standard clawed foot.

Place three or four heart footprints behind the dinosaur, shrinking each one slightly as they trail off into the distance, which gives the whole page a sense of a path already walked. If the hearts start looking too perfect and symmetrical, pinch one side slightly uneven by hand, since a slightly lopsided heart still reads clearly and looks more charming.

Color every other footprint in tangerine orange and the rest in lime green, leaving the dinosaur itself plain black line. A simple round paw print swaps in for the hearts if you want a more classic footprint trail.

Draw the dinosaur’s tail curved upward, and the stomping walk reads as a happy one.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Shift into a tender family scene with a mama dino sitting proudly on one big spotted egg, a pose that relies on one simple comparison to look right. Draw the egg first as a large oval roughly the same height as the mama dino’s body, then settle her down over it with her legs tucked and her chest puffed slightly forward.

Check that the egg looks big enough to matter by comparing it to her head, since an egg close to head size reads as precious cargo while a tiny egg disappears under her body. If the egg vanishes once she is sitting on it, raise her slightly so more of the shell peeks out from beneath her belly.

Color the egg in lime green with scattered tangerine orange spots, and leave mama plain black line so the egg stands out as the focus. A simple nest of loose lines under the egg adds warmth if you have the extra few minutes.

Draw her eyes half closed and content, and the protective pride comes through at a glance.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Pick the pace back up with a velociraptor in tiny sneakers sprinting at full speed, a subject built almost entirely around a strong diagonal line through the whole body. Draw the body leaning sharply forward along one diagonal line, legs stretched wide in a running stride, and the small clawed feet tucked into a pair of round laced sneakers.

Keep the tail stretched straight out behind for balance rather than curled, since a straight tail reinforces the forward motion far more than a curled one would. If the running pose looks stiff once inked, add two or three speed lines streaming off the tail and the back leg, and the whole figure loosens up instantly.

Color both sneakers in tangerine orange with a lime green stripe across each one, leaving the raptor’s body plain for speed. A pair of simple roller skates swaps in for the sneakers if you want a slightly different gag.

Draw the mouth open and eyes narrowed with focus, and the sprint reads as a race rather than a run.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Give the mouth a workout with a dino eating a whole pineapple in one bite, which turns a simple head and shoulders sketch into a visual punchline through scale alone. Draw the dinosaur’s head and open mouth first, then size the pineapple almost as wide as the jaw itself so it clearly fills the whole bite rather than looking like a snack.

Add the spiky pineapple crown poking out from between the lips as the very last detail, since that single row of leaves is what makes the gag read instantly. If the pineapple looks too small to be funny, redraw it slightly larger than feels natural rather than adjusting the jaw.

Color the pineapple body in tangerine orange and the leafy crown in lime green, keeping the dinosaur plain black line for contrast. A whole apple or a corn cob works as an easy swap if pineapple spikes feel fiddly to ink.

Draw the cheeks puffed out on both sides, and the enormous bite feels completely believable.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Return to the sky with a pterodactyl gliding next to a paper airplane, a pairing that works well because the two shapes share the same simple triangular wing lines. Draw the pterodactyl first with its wings swept back in a long glide, then place the paper airplane just ahead or slightly below it, angled in roughly the same direction so the two look like they are racing together.

Keep both shapes drawn with clean straight folds on the paper airplane and smooth curved wings on the pterodactyl, since the contrast between sharp and soft edges is what makes the pairing fun. If the two shapes end up overlapping awkwardly, shift the airplane further forward in the composition rather than resizing either one.

Color the paper airplane in tangerine orange and leave the pterodactyl’s wings plain with a lime green beak tip. A simple kite shape substitutes for the paper airplane if folded paper feels tricky to draw convincingly.

Draw both gliding slightly downward on the same angle, and the race feels believable.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Circle back to the eggs one more time for a baby dino walking around with its legs poking out of an eggshell, a toddler style gag built on the shell acting like oversized pants. Draw the broken bottom half of the shell first, sized roughly as wide as the baby dino’s whole body, then add two small legs poking out beneath it mid stride, as if the shell is simply being worn rather than discarded.

Keep the dino’s head and arms visible above the rim so the shell clearly reads as clothing rather than a hiding spot like the earlier hatchling idea. If the legs look too thin to support the shell convincingly, thicken them slightly at the point where they meet the shell’s bottom edge.

Color the shell in lime green and the baby dino’s cheeks in tangerine orange for warmth. A simple basket shape swaps in for the shell if an egg feels repetitive after the earlier hatchling scenes.

Draw one arm raised mid wobble, and the toddling walk feels instantly funnier.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Bring the comedy indoors again with a T-rex in a bathtub unable to reach the soap, one more variation on the short arm theme but set in a completely different scene. Draw a simple curved bathtub shape first, then sit the T-rex inside it with its body mostly submerged and both tiny arms stretched toward a bar of soap sitting just beyond the rim.

Keep the water line drawn as one wavy horizontal stroke across the lower body, since a straight line looks too stiff for bathwater. If the soap bar and the T-rex’s claws overlap and the joke disappears, move the soap further along the rim rather than shrinking the arms any further.

Color the bathwater in lime green with a few bubble circles floating on top, and leave the soap bar in solid tangerine orange so it stands out clearly as the goal. A rubber duck floating nearby is an easy optional extra if you have a couple more minutes.

Draw the eyebrows pinched together in effort, and the whole scene reads as a familiar daily struggle.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Flip the stegosaurus idea from earlier into something funnier with a stegosaurus terrified of one tiny beetle, a scene that depends entirely on the size contrast between the two creatures. Draw the stegosaurus large and filling most of the page first, body pulled back and legs braced as if retreating, then add one single tiny beetle sitting on the ground well below its line of sight.

Keep the beetle genuinely small, no more than a dot with a few short legs, since the joke only works if the size gap feels extreme. If the stegosaurus’s fearful expression reads as neutral instead, widen the eyes and raise the eyebrows higher than feels natural at first.

Color the beetle in tangerine orange so it still catches the eye despite its size, and leave the stegosaurus in plain black line with maybe one lime green plate for contrast. A single ant or ladybug works just as well as the tiny threat if beetles feel fussy to draw small.

Draw a few sweat drop marks near the stegosaurus’s head, and the fear reads instantly.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Return to the clouds for a brachiosaurus so tall its head pokes above a cloud, a companion piece to the cotton candy idea but focused purely on scale and height. Draw one wide cloud band across the middle of the page first, then build the long neck rising from below it all the way up until only the head and the very top of the neck show above the cloud line.

Keep the body and legs completely hidden below the cloud, since showing none of the lower body is what sells the extreme height. If the proportions look off once finished, compare the visible head size to the width of the cloud band, the head should look noticeably small against it.

Color the cloud band in lime green and leave the head plain, adding a single tangerine orange sunbeam line in the corner of the page. A mountain peak can stand in for the cloud if you want a landscape feel instead.

Draw the eyes looking slightly downward, as if gazing back at the ground far below, and the height feels real.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Solve the short arm problem once and for all with a T-rex using a grabber stick to reach a cookie jar, a prop based gag that gives this idea its own clear ten minute and forty minute versions. For the quick version, draw the T-rex reaching with the grabber stick toward a simple round jar on a shelf, keeping both shapes loose and the background empty.

For the fuller version, add a kitchen counter line beneath the jar and a few scattered cookie shapes spilling out the top, which gives the scene more context without much extra time. Either way, draw the grabber stick as one straight line with a simple pincer shape at the end gripping the jar’s lid.

Color the jar lid in tangerine orange and the cookies in lime green dots if you include them, leaving the T-rex and stick in plain black line. A long spoon or a broom handle works as a substitute grabber if you want a different household object.

Draw the T-rex’s tongue sticking out with concentration, and the determination comes through clearly.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Soften the mood again with a baby dino proudly carrying a fossil bone like a puppy, a simple walking pose that leans entirely on expression and the angle of the bone. Draw the baby dino mid trot first, head held high, then place a classic dog bone shape gripped sideways in its mouth, angled slightly upward for extra pride.

Keep the legs drawn mid stride rather than standing still, since movement makes the proud strut far more convincing than a static pose. If the bone looks like it is floating near the mouth instead of gripped, overlap the bone’s center slightly behind the jawline so it tucks in properly.

Color the bone in lime green with a couple of tangerine orange crack lines to suggest a real fossil, leaving the baby dino plain. A stick shape substitutes easily for the bone if you want a more classic puppy reference instead of a fossil one.

Draw the tail wagging in a simple curved zigzag, and the puppy energy comes through immediately.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Keep the comedy physical with a T-rex attempting a push-up with its short arms, a pose that is really about the gap between the chest and the ground rather than the arms themselves. Draw the body lying flat and angled slightly upward at the head, then place both tiny arms planted on the ground but clearly too short to lift the chest off the floor.

Leave a visible sliver of space between the chest and the ground to show the push up is not actually working, and strain the facial expression with squeezed eyes and a clenched jaw. If the pose reads as simply lying down rather than straining, add two or three small sweat drop marks near the head to signal effort.

Color the sweat drops in lime green and leave the rest of the drawing in plain black line so the straining expression stays the focus. A simple sit up pose on a mat works as an alternative exercise if push ups feel repetitive after the earlier clap and hug ideas.

Draw the tail flat and stretched out behind for balance, and the pose reads clearly as exercise.

Palette: Lime Green

Bring the music back with a parasaurolophus playing its head crest like a trumpet, a design that turns the dinosaur’s real curved crest into an instant musical joke. Draw the head and the long backward sweeping crest first in one smooth curve, then angle the mouth end of the crest outward like a trumpet bell and add a few musical notes drifting away from it.

Keep the crest’s curve consistent with how real parasaurolophus skeletons look, swept back and slightly flared at the tip, since that real world detail is what makes the trumpet joke click. If the crest ends up looking too straight and stick like, round the tip out into a wider bell shape to sell the instrument comparison.

Color the musical notes in tangerine orange and add a lime green stripe along the top of the crest. A simple curved horn shape can replace the crest reference entirely if parasaurolophus anatomy feels tricky to recall.

Draw the cheeks puffed slightly, and the trumpet playing feels completely convincing.

Palette: Tangerine Orange,Lime Green

Keep the errands theme going with a triceratops pushing a tiny shopping cart, a domestic scene that pairs nicely with the earlier school backpack idea. Draw the triceratops in profile first, body leaning slightly forward, then add a simple wire frame shopping cart gripped under its frill with both front legs appearing to push.

Keep the cart’s wheels small and round and set slightly ahead of the body so the whole scene reads as rolling forward rather than standing still. If the frill and the cart handle overlap confusingly once inked, raise the cart handle slightly above the frill line so the two shapes stay visually separate.

Color a couple of grocery items peeking out of the cart in lime green and tangerine orange, keeping the triceratops itself in plain black line. A simple wagon shape swaps in for the shopping cart if wire frame details feel too fiddly at this size.

Draw one horn tip slightly raised, as if checking a shopping list, and the errand feels complete.

Palette: Lime Green,Tangerine Orange

Close the whole sheet with a sleepy baby dino dragging a blanket by one corner, a quiet bedtime scene that pairs naturally with the hatchling and hiding ideas from earlier in the list. Draw the baby dino first with its head drooping low and eyes half closed, then add one small arm trailing a blanket corner behind it, letting the rest of the fabric pool loosely along the ground.

Keep the walking pose slow and heavy, feet barely lifted, since a dragging sleepy walk reads completely differently from the sprinting velociraptor earlier in this list. If the blanket looks stiff once inked, redraw its lower edge with a few soft wavy lines instead of one straight hem so it looks properly dragged rather than held up.

Color the blanket in tangerine orange with a lime green edge trim, leaving the dino itself plain for a calm finish to the page. A simple stuffed toy tucked under the other arm makes a nice optional addition if you have five more minutes before you put the pen down.

Draw the eyes as two sleepy curved lines, and the whole doodle ends the sheet on a quiet, satisfying note.

What to Do Next

Pick whichever dinosaur made you smile first, whether that is the baby T-rex failing to clap or the stegosaurus terrified of one tiny beetle, and give it ten minutes on a plain sheet of sketchbook paper with your fineliner close at hand. Once the first one is done, the rest of this list is right here waiting for the next page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pens work best for a dinosaur doodle like these?

A black fineliner in a fine tip, around 0.3 to 0.5, works best for clean outlines. Add color afterward with alcohol or water based markers in lime green and tangerine orange so the ink stays crisp underneath.

How do I keep dinosaur proportions from looking wrong?

Compare each body part to the head size before you ink it, since the head is the easiest reference point on the page. Short arms, long necks and heavy tails all read correctly once you check them against that one measurement.

Should I sketch in pencil first or go straight to pen?

Sketch in light pencil first if the pose has a tricky curve, like a long neck or a swinging tail, then trace it in fineliner once the proportions look right. Simple standing poses can often go straight to ink with practice.

What if I only have one marker color on hand?

One accent color still works, since the black outline carries most of the character on its own. Use the single marker on just one or two details, like a belly patch or a prop, rather than spreading it thin across the whole drawing.

How small can these dinosaur doodles be drawn?

Most of these fit comfortably in a space about the size of a playing card, which suits a notebook margin or a sticky note. Keep details to the eyes, mouth and one or two props so the small size still reads clearly.
