I love how christmas aesthetic drawing turns a plain sketchbook page into something you want to sit with for an hour, mug in hand, pencils fanned out on the table. Every scene here is small and quiet on purpose: a candle, a cocoa mug, a cat curled by a tree, the kind of corner you would actually notice in your own living room.

Below you get eleven full worksheets, each one taking a single cozy moment from the first pencil outline to soft color and warm golden light, with a little paint swatch beside every stage so you always know what to pick up next.

Cocoa Mug By A Frosty Window

Start with a light pencil sketch of the mug, the marshmallows peeking over the rim and a simple window frame behind it, then go over every line in fine black ink once you are happy with the shapes.

Lay a pale cream wash across the sill and wall first, then bring in muted red for the mug and a little sage green for a sprig tucked beside it. Finish with a golden glow along the window glass and tiny white gel pen dots for frost and marshmallow highlights.

Keep the steam above the mug as just two or three soft curved lines, it reads better loose than tight.

Gift With A Velvet Bow

Sketch a simple rectangular box with a big looping bow on top, this one skips the ink step and goes straight into color once the pencil lines feel right.

Wash the whole box in pale cream, then build the bow up in muted red, layering it slowly so it looks like soft velvet rather than flat paper. Add a tiny sage sprig at the ribbon knot for a natural touch.

Shade the folds and corners in golden ochre so the box feels like it is sitting in lamplight, then finish with white gel pen along the ribbon curls. Keep the bow loops uneven, a slightly lopsided bow always looks more handmade.

Girl Carrying A Small Tree

Keep her pose simple, a small figure walking with a little tree tucked under one arm, sketched lightly first then traced in fine ink once the proportions feel comfortable.

Wash her coat and the snowy ground in pale cream, then fill the tree branches with sage green and bring her hat and scarf to life in muted red, shading gently where the fabric folds.

Finish with a soft golden glow around her shoulders as if a porch light is just out of frame, then scatter a few white gel pen dots for falling snow. This scene pairs nicely with other quiet winter figures if you enjoy browsing more girl pencil drawing ideas for beginners.

Candle And Pine On A Windowsill

Draw a simple pillar candle in a small holder with a few pine sprigs resting around its base, then trace it in fine black ink so the branches stay crisp under color.

Wash the sill in pale cream, then work sage green into the pine needles, keeping the strokes short and a little uneven so they read as soft greenery rather than a solid shape.

Tie it together with a thin muted red ribbon around the sprigs, then build a warm golden glow radiating from the flame outward across the sill. Leave the very tip of the flame as bare paper for the brightest point of light.

Cat Asleep Under The Tree

Sketch the cat first in a curled, sleeping pose, then add the tree rising behind it, keeping both shapes soft and rounded before going over them in fine ink.

Wash the floor and wall in pale cream, then fill the tree in sage green and dot muted red ornaments across the branches, spacing them unevenly so it feels like a real tree rather than a pattern.

Finish with golden light spilling down from the branches onto the cat’s back and the floor beneath it. A tiny patch of bare cream paper on the cat’s side keeps the fur looking soft instead of flat.

Knitted Mittens On A Hook

Draw two mittens hanging side by side from a simple hook, adding a few short curved lines across each one to suggest knit texture before moving into color.

Wash both mittens in pale cream, then build up muted red over the top, letting the pencil texture lines show through so the knit pattern stays visible under the color.

Add a sage green cuff stripe at each wrist for contrast, then shade the overlapping folds in golden ochre so they feel like they are really hanging and catching soft light. Keep the hook itself a thin, quiet line so it does not compete with the mittens.

Gingerbread House Slice

Keep the house small and simple, one peaked roof, one door, a window or two, sketched lightly so the icing details have room to sit on top later.

Wash the roof in pale cream first, then fill the walls with golden ochre so the gingerbread reads warm rather than flat brown, and add muted red to the door and a thin candy trim along the roof edge.

Finish with white gel pen icing drips along the roofline and a few dots scattered like sugar. Uneven, slightly melting icing lines always look more charming than perfectly straight ones.

Stack Of Wrapped Books

Sketch three simple rectangles stacked slightly off center, each one wrapped like a small gift with a thin ribbon line across the top, then move straight into color.

Give each book its own wash, cream on top, sage green in the middle and muted red on the bottom, so the stack reads as three distinct gifts rather than one solid block.

Shade the edges where the books meet in golden ochre, deepening the color slightly under the stack for a soft cast shadow. A single sprig of sage tucked under the ribbon on top adds a nice finishing touch, and if you want more small gift ideas afterward this pairs well with the christmas drawing ideas pencil collection.

Hot Cocoa Station On A Tray

Draw a small round tray holding a cocoa pot, one cup and a cinnamon stick resting across the rim, keeping every shape rounded and friendly before adding color.

Wash the tray and cup in pale cream, then bring the pot to life with a muted red pattern and a matching line along the cup rim, adding a small sage sprig tucked beside the cinnamon stick for color balance.

Let the steam rise in soft golden ochre curls above the cup, then finish with a single white gel pen highlight along the pot’s curved edge. Keep the steam lines thin, thick steam looks more like smoke than warmth.

Snowy Porch Lantern

Sketch a simple post with a lantern hanging from it and soft mounded snow at the base, then trace it in fine ink so the lantern panes stay clean under color.

Wash the snow and background porch in pale cream, then wrap the post in a sage green pine garland and tie a muted red bow where the lantern hangs from its hook.

Finish with golden light glowing from inside the lantern glass, letting a soft halo spread onto the snow below it. Leave small patches of bare cream paper around the glow for snow catching the light.

Cinnamon And Orange Garland

Draw a simple strand of twine with a few dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks hanging along it, keeping the slices round and slightly overlapping for a natural garland feel.

Wash the pale centers of each orange slice in cream, then ring the edges with muted red fading into golden ochre, the way a dried orange peel actually looks when it catches light.

Fill the cinnamon sticks in solid golden ochre and tuck a few sage green rosemary sprigs between the slices for contrast. Keep the twine itself a single thin wavy line, it should feel almost secondary to the garland hanging from it.

What to Do Next

Pick whichever scene is calling to you most, sharpen your pencils, and start with the light pencil sketch stage, the rest of each page follows naturally from there once the first lines are down.

Frequently Asked Questions

What paper works best for christmas aesthetic drawing with colored pencils and markers?

A smooth to lightly toothed sketchbook paper works best, heavy enough that markers do not bleed through. Warm toned or cream paper also helps the golden glow stages blend naturally into the page.

Do I need to ink my sketch before coloring every scene?

No, ink is only used for the scenes, not every object. Smaller single objects like a gift or mittens can go straight from pencil into color without an ink outline step.

How do I get that warm golden glow effect in colored pencil?

Layer golden ochre lightly over the area meant to glow, building it up slowly rather than pressing hard once. Blending it gently into the surrounding color, rather than stopping at a hard edge, creates the soft candlelit look.

Can I use these cozy scenes for journaling or card making?

Yes, each scene is sized to sit as one full sketchbook page, which also makes it easy to resize smaller for handmade holiday cards or journal spreads once finished.

What if my muted red looks too bright once I start shading?

Soften it by layering a thin pass of cream or a touch of golden ochre over the top. This mutes the red gently without losing the warmth that makes the whole palette feel cozy.
