An elephant doodle earns its place on a page the moment you give it something small to do, and a trunk is the best prop any animal has ever been handed. It can water a flower, hold a balloon, snorkel in a bathtub or sneak a midnight snack, and every one of those is a tiny finished scene rather than a stiff animal portrait.
Below are 29 of them, each built from a few rounded shapes, a black fineliner line and a touch of dusty blue or peach marker. Pick whichever one makes you smile first and draw straight into your notebook, no pencil sketch required.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Start with the easiest trick in the whole set: a baby elephant giving itself a shower with its own trunk. Draw a round body first, a big head with small tusks optional, then curl the trunk up and over the head like a question mark pointing down, ending in a little fan of water drops.
Keep the legs short and stumpy, barely more than four rounded rectangles, and let the ears sit low and soft rather than huge. Go over the whole thing in black fineliner once you are happy with the pencil-free sketch, then add dusty blue dots and short dashes falling from the trunk tip.
The most common slip here is making the trunk too thin and straight, which reads as a hose instead of an elephant part. Keep it thick at the base and tapering gently, and if it still looks off, thicken the whole curve rather than trying to erase and fix a thin line.
If you only have one marker color today, skip the peach and let every water drop be dusty blue, it still reads clearly as a shower.

Move from water to air with an elephant holding a balloon string in its trunk. Draw the body as one soft oval leaning slightly, add a small curved trunk reaching up and out, and let the fingers of the trunk pinch a thin string that trails up to a round balloon just outside the body’s footprint.
Work the balloon first if it helps you plan the space, since it decides how far the trunk needs to stretch. Then build the elephant underneath it, keeping the feet close together so the whole pose feels light and a little lifted, as if the balloon is tugging just slightly.
Where this goes wrong is drawing the string too straight, which stiffens the whole doodle. Let it curve gently, almost lazy, and the balloon will feel like it is actually floating rather than glued in place.
Color the balloon peach and leave the elephant mostly uncolored so the eye goes straight to the one bright shape.

Here is where a little measuring trick keeps the joke working: draw the stool first, no taller than one of the elephant’s own legs, so the mismatch reads instantly. A three legged stool with a round top is easiest, placed slightly off center under the body.
Build the elephant leaning to one side with all four feet bunched close together on that small seat, front legs slightly bent for balance and the trunk swinging out wide as a counterweight. Ears angle upward too, as if caught mid-wobble.
If the elephant looks too stable, lower the stool height compared to the leg length and exaggerate the lean a few more degrees, that single adjustment sells the wobble better than any extra motion line.
Add a couple of short curved lines beside the stool legs to suggest it rocking, in dusty blue, and the whole scene reads as caught in the act of nearly tipping over.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Ink Black,Soft Peach
Carry the bath theme further with an elephant sitting in a clawfoot tub, trunk held straight up like a snorkel. Draw the tub first as a simple oval with four small curved feet, since getting that shape right anchors the whole doodle.
Fill it with a wavy bubble line for water level, then draw just the elephant’s head and the top curve of its back poking out, with the trunk rising straight up past the edge of the panel, ending in a tiny opening at the top.
The eye level matters here: keep the tub drawn from slightly above and the elephant’s head low in the water, so the straight vertical trunk reads clearly against the horizontal tub line rather than blending into a mass of curves.
Color the water dusty blue in a flat wash of short marker strokes, and leave the trunk white so it stands out as the punchline of the piece.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Ink Black
Switch the mood with a baby elephant up on tiptoes, terrified of a tiny mouse. Draw the elephant’s legs stretched long and thin, heels lifted off the ground, body pulled back and ears flattened slightly against the head, all signals of alarm.
Place the mouse last and keep it genuinely tiny, just a small oval with two round ears and a thread of a tail, sitting well below the elephant’s raised front foot. That size difference is the whole joke, so resist the urge to make the mouse bigger for visibility.
If the pose looks stiff, curve the elephant’s back slightly and tilt the head down toward the mouse, which adds the nervous glance that makes the scene read instantly.
Dusty blue works nicely as a few short fright lines radiating near the raised foot, while the mouse stays plain black and white to stay small and simple.
Palette: Ink Black,Dusty Blue
If you like this kind of size contrast, try the same trick with a ladybug or a snail instead of a mouse, the elephant’s fright stays funny no matter how small the visitor is.
Keep the clumsy energy going with a baby elephant tripping over its own oversized ears. Draw the ears first, bigger than usual and drooping low enough to brush the front feet, then build the body mid-stumble, front legs crossed and back legs still pushing forward.
Tilt the head down and forward too, since a falling pose needs the whole body committed to the direction, not just the legs. A trunk flung out to one side adds a nice flailing touch without much extra drawing.
The easiest way to ruin this one is keeping the ears neat and symmetrical, which looks calm instead of tangled. Let one ear flop further than the other and overlap slightly with a front leg so the trip looks genuinely caused by them.
A few short peach motion lines behind the back feet finish the sense of a sudden stumble.
Palette: Soft Peach,Ink Black
From tripping ears to determined ones, this elephant flaps its ears hard, trying to fly. Draw the ears pulled all the way up and out, wider than the body itself, with a couple of curved lines above them showing the flapping motion.
Build the body leaning slightly forward with front legs lifted just a little off the ground, since even a tiny gap there reads as hopeful effort rather than standing still. A determined closed-eye expression sells the trying harder than any speed line.
For a quick ten minute version, stop at the outline and a couple of motion lines above the ears. Given forty minutes, add individual short ear-vein lines inside each ear and a cloud of peach dust kicked up from the back feet for extra push.
If the ears look flat, curve their outer edge slightly inward at the tip, that small bend makes them look like they are actually mid-flap.

For a quieter scene, draw an elephant painting a picture with a brush held in its trunk. Start with the easel as a simple triangle stand holding a small rectangle canvas, then build the elephant beside it with the trunk curled forward, gripping a thin brush near its tip.
Keep the canvas mostly blank with just a stroke or two of color showing, since a full tiny painting inside the painting adds detail you do not need. One dusty blue swoosh and a peach dot are enough to suggest work in progress.
Watch the trunk’s grip here, a brush drawn straight through the trunk without any curl around it looks like it is floating. Wrap the trunk tip slightly around the handle instead, even just a small hook shape, and the hold reads convincingly.
If you enjoy this kind of working-animal scene, the cute sketchbook ideas of animals working little jobs page has more in the same spirit.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Soft Peach,Ink Black
Soften the mood further with a baby elephant sucking its trunk like a thumb at bedtime. Draw the body curled into a loose ball shape lying down, eyes closed with simple curved lash lines, and the trunk tip tucked right up near the mouth.
Add a small blanket draped over the back, just a curved line with a scalloped edge, and maybe one tiny star floating nearby if the page feels empty. Keep every line soft and rounded, nothing sharp, to match the sleepy mood.
The spot this usually goes wrong is the trunk, drawn too long it swings out and breaks the cozy curled shape. Keep it short and tucked close to the face, following the same curve as the body rather than sticking out straight.
Dusty blue works well as the blanket color, with a single peach star or moon shape nearby for a warm contrast.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Soft Peach,Ink Black
Give the page a bit of nature with an elephant watering a single sunflower with its trunk. Draw the sunflower first, a simple circle center with a ring of pointed petals and one curved stem with two leaves, positioned off to one side.
Build the elephant facing it, trunk stretched out and curved downward so a thin stream of water droplets falls right onto the flower’s base. Keep the elephant’s stance wide and relaxed, since this is a calm moment rather than an active one.
Light matters here even in a simple ink doodle: if you add any shading at all, keep one side of the elephant and the flower slightly darker, as if light comes from the same direction for both, which ties the two shapes together as one scene rather than two separate stickers.
Color the petals peach and the water droplets dusty blue for the clearest contrast.
Palette: Soft Peach,Dusty Blue,Ink Black
Keep the playful water theme alive with a baby elephant blowing a stream of bubbles from its trunk. Draw the trunk curved gently upward with the tip slightly open, then add a scattered trail of circles rising away from it, varying their size so the smallest are furthest from the trunk.
Build the body in a relaxed standing pose, maybe one back leg lifted slightly as if mid-skip, since bubble blowing suits a light, bouncy stance better than a flat-footed one.
If the bubbles all come out the same size, the trail looks static rather than drifting. Vary them clearly, two or three medium, a couple tiny, one slightly bigger near the trunk, and the eye reads it as movement right away.
Leave most bubbles uncolored with just a thin dusty blue outline, which keeps them looking light and soapy rather than solid.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Ink Black
Bring in warm weather with an elephant fanning itself with its own ears on a hot day. Draw both ears pulled slightly forward, angled toward the face rather than out to the sides, with a couple of curved motion lines showing them waving.
Give the elephant a slightly open mouth and heavy lidded eyes, small details that read instantly as hot and tired without needing any extra props. A few sweat drops near the forehead, small teardrop shapes, finish the feeling.
The quick ten minute version stops right there. With more time, add a small puddle of shade shape beneath the feet and a single wilting peach flower nearby to push the heat further.
Keep the sweat drops dusty blue so they read clearly against the line work without competing with any peach accents elsewhere on the page.

Scale right down with an elephant holding one peanut in its trunk like a precious gem. Draw the trunk curled into a tight loop at the tip, cradling a small peanut shape held up near eye level, as if examining a jewel.
Build the rest of the body in a simple standing pose with the head tilted slightly, eyes focused down on the peanut rather than looking out at the viewer, which sells the sense of quiet fascination.
If the peanut gets lost against the trunk, outline it slightly thicker than the rest of the linework, and add two tiny sparkle marks beside it in peach, treating it exactly like a drawn diamond rather than a snack.
This is a nice one to try in a tiny format, since the mini doodle ideas of pocket sized subjects page covers the same small and charming approach.
Palette: Soft Peach,Ink Black
Let loose a bit with a baby elephant rolling in mud and looking delighted. Draw the body in a rolled, tipped-over pose, legs sticking up and out rather than standing, which immediately reads as mid-roll rather than lying still.
Add a simple puddle shape beneath the body, loose and uneven at the edges, and scatter a few splash marks and mud spots across the elephant’s back and ears. A wide open mouth and closed happy eyes finish the joyful expression.
The edges of the mud matter more than anything else here: keep them rough and irregular rather than a neat oval, and dab a few extra flicks just outside the puddle line, which makes the splash feel fresh rather than old and dried.
Fill the puddle with a flat dusty blue wash, then dot a few peach mud spots onto the elephant’s back for contrast.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Soft Peach,Ink Black
Turn up the volume with a baby elephant trumpeting so loud its ears fly back. Draw the trunk raised straight up with the tip curved open wide, and push the ears backward and flattened against the head rather than their usual relaxed droop, as if blown back by the sound itself.
Add a few short curved lines bursting out from the trunk’s open tip to suggest the blast of sound, and widen the eyes slightly for extra surprise at its own noise.
If the ears look only slightly pushed back, exaggerate further than feels natural, pin them almost flat against the skull, since a subtle version of this pose reads as calm rather than startled.
Use peach for the little sound burst lines around the trunk tip, which keeps them visually separate from the blue tones used elsewhere in the set.
Palette: Soft Peach,Ink Black
For something a little quirky, draw an elephant with a knot tied in its trunk to remember something. Build the trunk curving out as usual, then interrupt the curve partway along with a simple overlapping loop, like drawing a loose knot in a rope, before the trunk continues to its tip.
Keep the rest of the elephant in a thoughtful standing pose, head slightly tilted, eyes looking upward as if trying to recall what the knot was for in the first place.
The knot itself is the one part worth practicing separately on scrap paper first, since a trunk’s thickness makes a realistic knot tricky. A simple pretzel-like overlap of two curved lines reads clearly enough without needing true rope logic.
Add one small peach question mark floating near its head to finish the joke without any extra words needed.
Palette: Soft Peach,Ink Black
Bring back the balance joke with an elephant sitting on a beach ball that is clearly too small. Draw the ball first as a simple circle with a few curved stripe lines across it, sized no bigger than one of the elephant’s own feet, so the mismatch is obvious before the elephant goes in.
Build the body perched on top, legs tucked under and slightly squashed looking, with the ball flattening just a touch under the weight, a small dent along its bottom edge.
If the scene still reads as calm rather than precarious, angle the whole elephant a few degrees to one side and add a couple of short wobble lines beside the ball, the same trick used for the stool doodle earlier in this list.
Stripe the ball in alternating peach and dusty blue for a cheerful beach colour without adding any extra shapes.
Palette: Soft Peach,Dusty Blue,Ink Black
Add a small family scene with a baby elephant holding its mother’s tail with its trunk on a walk. Draw the larger elephant first, walking in profile with a calm steady stride, tail curved slightly back, then add the baby just behind, trunk reaching forward to grip the very tip of that tail.
Keep the baby noticeably smaller, maybe half the height, and give it short quick looking legs compared to the mother’s longer steady ones, which suggests the size difference in their pace as much as their size.
Proportion is the whole trick here: measure the baby against the mother’s leg rather than guessing, the baby’s whole body should sit roughly as tall as the mother’s front leg, no taller.
Leave both elephants mostly uncolored and add just one small peach flower along the ground between their feet to finish the walking path.
Palette: Soft Peach,Ink Black
For pure comedy, draw an elephant squeezing into a small armchair, very pleased with itself. Build the armchair first as a simple boxy shape with rolled arms and short legs, sized clearly for something much smaller than an elephant.
Fit the elephant into it next, body overflowing the seat on both sides, one leg draped over an arm and ears squashed slightly against the chair back, with a wide contented smile showing it does not mind the squeeze at all.
The chair’s arms are where this usually falls apart, drawn too wide they swallow the joke. Keep them narrow and let the elephant’s bulk visibly spill past both edges, that overflow is what makes the scene funny rather than just an elephant near a chair.
A dusty blue cushion pattern on the seat back adds a cozy touch without extra effort.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Ink Black
If this one makes you laugh, the animals working little jobs sketchbook ideas page has more oversized animal in tiny spaces style humor.
Keep the humor going with a baby elephant sneezing so hard it lands on its bottom. Draw the trunk flung straight up and open wide at the tip, eyes squeezed shut, and the whole body tipped backward with the back legs splayed out as if just knocked off balance.
Add a small burst of lines right at the trunk tip for the sneeze itself, and a couple of tiny dust clouds under the bottom where it has just landed on the ground.
For a quick version, the tipped-back pose and the sneeze burst alone tell the whole story in ten minutes. With more time, add a few startled little birds flying off nearby, a nice way to reuse a small shape from elsewhere on the page.
Color the sneeze burst peach so it pops clearly against the plain black line work.
Palette: Soft Peach,Ink Black
Cool things down with an elephant sipping a smoothie straight through its trunk. Draw a tall glass first, simple and slightly rounded, filled with a flat wash of color and topped with a small swirl of whipped cream if you like extra detail.
Build the elephant leaning toward it, trunk dipped straight down into the glass like a straw, eyes half closed in contentment. Keep the body relaxed and slightly slouched to match the lazy, refreshing mood.
The trunk’s angle matters most here: too vertical and it looks like it is simply resting in the glass, so angle it slightly so the tip clearly disappears below the smoothie’s surface line, which reads as actively drinking rather than just touching it.
Fill the glass with dusty blue for a cool toned smoothie, and add one peach straw or garnish on the rim for contrast.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Soft Peach,Ink Black
Return to water with a baby elephant splashing in a kiddie pool much too small for it. Draw the pool first as a simple scalloped-edge circle, sized to fit only a small portion of the elephant’s body, before building the elephant sitting inside with legs spilling well past the rim.
Add a generous splash around the pool’s edge, a mix of curved lines and small droplet shapes flying outward, since the whole joke relies on water clearly escaping the too-small space.
If the splash looks too tame, push a few droplets further out from the pool than feels sensible, exaggerated spray sells the scene better than a neat little arc hugging close to the rim.
Paint the pool water dusty blue and scatter a few peach droplets among the blue ones for a livelier splash pattern.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Soft Peach,Ink Black
For a household scene, draw an elephant vacuuming up crumbs with its trunk. Build the body in a relaxed standing pose, head lowered and trunk pointed down at the floor, tip slightly flattened as if sucking something up rather than just resting there.
Scatter a handful of small crumb shapes on the ground near the trunk tip, varying their size, with one or two drawn slightly smaller as if already mid-vanish into the trunk.
The trick that sells the vacuuming action is a short dotted or dashed line trailing from a crumb toward the trunk tip, like a little motion path, rather than leaving the crumbs just scattered randomly with no connection to the trunk at all.
Keep the crumbs plain black outline with a single peach dot among them for a bit of color variety.
Palette: Soft Peach,Ink Black
Give the elephant a hobby with one snapping a photo with an old camera held in its trunk. Draw the camera first as a simple boxy shape with a round lens circle and a small strap, then curl the trunk around its body to hold it up near eye level.
Build the rest of the elephant in a steady standing pose, one eye slightly squinted as if looking through the viewfinder, which adds a nice bit of personality without any extra shapes needed.
If the camera looks like it is floating separate from the trunk, wrap the trunk’s curve fully around the camera body rather than just touching its edge, the same grip principle used for the paintbrush doodle earlier in this list.
A dusty blue camera body with one peach shutter button finishes the color scheme cleanly.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Soft Peach,Ink Black
Soften the mood with a baby elephant letting a little bird rest on its trunk. Draw the trunk held out low and gently curved, almost like a branch, then add a small round bird perched right in the middle of it, simple oval body, short beak, two tiny feet.
Keep the elephant’s expression calm and still, eyes gentle rather than wide, since the whole charm of this scene is stillness rather than any big action. A slight head tilt toward the bird adds warmth without extra lines.
The eye level worth considering here is the bird’s own: draw it slightly above the trunk’s centerline rather than sitting flat on top, which makes it look genuinely perched rather than glued on.
Give the bird peach feather accents and leave the elephant uncolored so the small visitor stands out clearly.
Palette: Soft Peach,Ink Black
For something especially cozy, draw an elephant cuddling its own toy elephant at naptime. Build the large elephant lying curled on its side first, then tuck a much smaller plush version of itself against its chest, held loosely in the curve of one front leg.
Keep the toy simple, just a rounder, smaller echo of the same shapes used for the real elephant, maybe with a small stitched line across its ear to read clearly as a plush rather than a second real animal.
Once this pose works, it is an easy one to vary next time: swap the toy for a different stuffed shape, a bear or a bunny, while keeping the same curled sleeping position, and the scene still reads instantly as cozy.
A dusty blue blanket corner tucked near the feet finishes the sleepy feeling.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Ink Black
For a wintery touch, draw an elephant wearing a knitted sock on its trunk on a cold day. Build the trunk in its usual curve, then wrap a simple ribbed sock shape around the lower half, a few short horizontal lines suggesting the knit pattern and a looser cuff at the top edge.
Keep the rest of the elephant in a slightly hunched, chilly looking pose, shoulders drawn in and ears pulled a touch closer to the head, which reads as cold without needing snow or any background at all.
If the sock looks painted on rather than worn, add a small fold line where the fabric bunches near the cuff, that single crease is what separates a sock from a solid colored trunk.
Color the sock dusty blue with peach ribbing lines for a cheerful knitted look.
Palette: Dusty Blue,Soft Peach,Ink Black
Bring back the balance humor one more time with an elephant bouncing on a trampoline that sags all the way to the ground. Draw the trampoline frame first as a simple ring on short legs, then let the fabric inside dip in a deep curved sag rather than sitting flat, clearly touching or nearly touching the ground.
Build the elephant standing right in that dip, legs slightly bent and ears flared out to the sides as if mid-bounce, even though the sag suggests it is barely lifting off at all.
The sag line is the whole gag here, so measure it generously: let the lowest point of the fabric sit at least level with the trampoline’s legs, not just slightly dipped, or the joke reads as a normal trampoline instead of an overloaded one.
Color the trampoline fabric peach and leave the frame plain black for a clean contrast.
Palette: Soft Peach,Ink Black
Finish the set with an elephant tiptoeing very quietly to sneak a midnight snack. Draw the body in an exaggerated tiptoe stance, legs stretched long and thin, heels lifted, and the whole posture leaning slightly forward with purpose toward a small plate or jar just ahead.
Add a tiny moon or a couple of small stars above to set the midnight scene without needing any full background, and keep the elephant’s eyes wide and alert, glancing slightly sideways as if checking for anyone watching.
If the tiptoe looks too relaxed, exaggerate the leg stretch further than feels natural and curve the trunk forward reaching for the snack, the combination of stretched legs and reaching trunk is what makes the sneaking read clearly rather than just standing oddly.
One small peach snack shape on a simple plate finishes the scene, and this is a satisfying one to end a sketchbook page on, as covered in the little themed page ideas for filling a sketchbook guide.

What to Do Next
Pick whichever elephant made you smile first and grab your fineliner, no need to plan the whole page before you start. Draw it straight onto plain paper, add the dusty blue or peach touches last, and let today’s doodle be the first of a few more from this list.
Frequently Asked Questions
What pens work best for an elephant doodle like this?
A black fineliner in a fine to medium tip works best, since it keeps rounded elephant shapes smooth without bleeding. Add dusty blue and peach alcohol or brush markers afterward for small color accents, not full coverage.
Do I need to sketch the elephant in pencil first?
No, these doodles are designed to be drawn straight in fineliner, which keeps the line loose and a little wobbly on purpose. If you want more control while learning, a very light pencil guide is fine, just keep it minimal.
How do I keep elephant doodles looking cute instead of realistic?
Keep the head and body large and round compared to the legs, and shrink the legs down to short stumpy shapes. Big rounded ears, a short curved trunk and small simple eyes all push the look toward cute rather than lifelike.
What is the easiest elephant doodle to start with?
The trunk shower or the balloon string idea are the simplest, since both use one basic rounded body and a single curved trunk shape. They are good warm ups before trying the scenes with props or other characters.
How much color should I add to a black fineliner elephant doodle?
Keep color to small accents only, a water splash, a balloon, a sock or a snack, rather than filling in the whole elephant. This keeps the line work as the main focus and the marker color as a light finishing touch.
