28 Christmas Bunny Drawing Ideas for Bunnies in Scarves, Mittens and Velvet Bows

34

A christmas bunny drawing is the kind of page that makes a whole sketchbook feel softer. Long ears, a round little body, a knitted scarf or a velvet bow, and suddenly a holiday scene has a heart in the middle of it that anyone can love.

Below are 28 small bunny stories to draw in colored pencil, from a sleepy bunny tucked in a mitten to a bunny ballerina mid twirl. Pick whichever one makes you smile first, grab your pencils, and build it from the first soft shape to the last red accent.

Start with the bunny in a knitted scarf carrying a tiny tree, since the shapes here are big and forgiving. Block in an oval body, a round head and two tall ears with light pencil, then rough in a small triangle tree held in the front paws.

Work the fur in cream colored pencil first, then add blush in the ears and cheeks before the scarf goes on in red with a darker red for the knit ridges. The place this goes wrong is the scarf sitting flat against the body, so wrap its lines slightly around the neck and let one end hang loose to suggest the curve underneath.

Finish the little tree in sage green with tiny strokes rather than one flat shape, which reads as pine needles instead of a green blob. If you do not have sage, a cool olive or moss green pencil works the same way.

Tip for today: draw the tree slightly smaller than feels right, since an oversized tree makes the bunny look like a toy instead of the star of the page.

You Will Need

• cream and blush colored pencils
• red and sage colored pencils
• smooth drawing paper
• kneaded eraser

Palette: Cream,Blush,Sage Green,True Red

Curve the scarf fringe with tiny V shaped strokes rather than straight lines, it reads instantly as soft knit fabric instead of a flat ribbon.

Once you have one bunny down, try two at once with bunnies decorating their burrow door, a slightly bigger scene but still simple at this stage. Sketch a rounded doorway shape low on the page, like a hobbit hole, with one bunny standing on tiptoe and a second passing up a sprig of holly or a tiny bauble.

Keep both bunnies close in size so neither reads as the parent, and build the door itself in warm cream and soft brown pencil so it recedes behind the fur. Overlapping is the trick that sells this as one scene rather than two separate drawings, so let an ear or paw cross in front of the doorway edge.

Add a few red berries and a sage wreath around the door last, kept small so they frame the bunnies instead of competing with them.

Tip for today: give the two bunnies slightly different poses, one reaching up and one standing still, so the scene feels like a real moment instead of two copies of the same drawing.

You Will Need

• cream and brown colored pencils
• red and sage colored pencils
• smooth drawing paper
• fine pencil for door details

Palette: Warm Cream,Soft Brown,Sage Green,Berry Red

Add a tiny welcome wreath above the door using small looped sage pencil strokes, it anchors the whole scene without extra drawing time.

Settle into something quieter with a bunny drinking cocoa by a lantern, a nice subject for practicing where light falls. Draw the bunny seated with both paws wrapped around a small mug, then place a lantern just beside it on the ground or on a low stump.

Since the lantern is the light source here, keep that side of the bunny’s fur a touch lighter and let the far side fall into a soft gray-blush shadow, which gives the whole page a warm glow instead of flat lighting. Color the cocoa itself in a rich warm brown with a thin cream line for steam, and let the lantern glass stay nearly white with just a hint of yellow at its center.

If yellow pencil feels too bright, a pale cream pencil under a light touch of orange does the same gentle job.

Tip for today: draw the steam as two or three soft curved lines instead of one thick squiggle, it reads as warmth rather than smoke.

You Will Need

• warm brown and cream colored pencils
• pale yellow or orange pencil
• blush and gray pencil for shadow
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Cocoa Brown,Pale Yellow,Blush Gray,Cream

Try this scene at night instead of dusk by deepening the background slightly with a blue-gray pencil, it makes the lantern glow feel much stronger.

For something small and sweet, draw a bunny asleep in a mitten, tucked in like the tiniest blanket. Start with the mitten shape first since the bunny needs to fit inside it, a simple rounded thumb and palm shape in red or cream knit.

Curl the bunny’s body into a tight comma shape with the ears folded down flat against its back rather than standing up, which is what sells the sleeping pose. The place this goes wrong is drawing the ears upright out of habit, so check your sketch before you commit to color and fold them in if they look alert.

Work the mitten in red with darker red ribbing lines at the cuff, then let the bunny’s fur stay pale cream with just a touch of blush on the cheek pressed against the knit.

Tip for today: add two or three tiny Z shapes floating above the bunny in light pencil, a small classic touch that instantly reads as sleep.

You Will Need

• red colored pencil for mitten
• cream and blush colored pencils
• fine liner or pencil for ribbing
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Mitten Red,Deep Red,Cream,Blush

Try the quick ten minute version with just the mitten and a sleeping face peeking out, then add the full curled body and ribbing detail if you have more time.

Bring in some motion with a bunny on a sled with a carrot, a fun one for practicing perspective on a simple object. Draw the sled from a three-quarter angle rather than straight on, so you can see both its curved runners and its flat top, which makes the whole scene feel like it is moving forward.

Sit the bunny slightly forward on the sled with ears streaming back, and tuck a bright orange carrot under one arm like a prize. Keep the snow below the sled suggested with just a curved white line and a little flicked spray rather than a fully drawn ground, so the eye stays on the bunny.

Color the sled in warm brown wood tones with the carrot as the one strong orange note against all the cream and sage.

Tip for today: angle the ears back and slightly blurred with a lighter pencil pressure, it does more to suggest speed than any extra lines around the sled.

You Will Need

• brown colored pencil for sled
• orange colored pencil for carrot
• cream and sage pencils
• white gel pen for snow spray

Palette: Sled Brown,Carrot Orange,Cream,Sage Green

Add a thin white gel pen line along the top edge of the sled runners for a shine, it makes the wood look polished and cold at once.

Slow back down with a bunny wearing a velvet bow, a quiet portrait style piece that is really about the bow itself. Draw the bunny facing mostly forward so the bow sits centered just behind one ear or at the throat, and keep the pose simple and still.

Velvet reads very differently from the knit scarf earlier, since it wants deep, saturated color with almost no visible pencil strokes, so layer red pencil heavily and smooth it with a blending stump until the texture disappears and only rich color remains. The mistake here is leaving the bow flat and shiny looking, so add one small darker red shadow where the loops overlap to give it real folds.

Let the fur stay soft and lightly layered by contrast, so the bow reads as the one luxurious element on the page.

Tip for today: blend the bow in small circular motions rather than back and forth strokes, circular blending removes pencil lines faster and gives a smoother velvet finish.

You Will Need

• deep red colored pencil
• blending stump
• cream and blush colored pencils
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Velvet Red,Shadow Red,Cream,Blush

Try white colored pencil over the finished bow in one thin curved line for a satin highlight, it lifts the velvet without flattening the color underneath.

Add some action with a bunny wrapping a gift, paws mid fold over a small box. Sketch the box as a simple rectangle first, then draw the bunny leaning over it with one paw holding paper down and the other smoothing a crease, which gives the pose a real sense of a task in progress.

Paper folding is the forty-minute addition here, since a quick version can just show a plain wrapped box, while the fuller version draws the paper mid fold with one corner still loose and a curling ribbon end trailing off the edge. Color the paper in soft sage or cream with a red ribbon crossing it, and keep the ribbon’s shadow a shade darker where it tucks under itself.

Keep the bunny’s expression simple, a small content look is enough, since the hands and paper are doing the storytelling here.

Tip for today: draw one loose curl of ribbon trailing past the edge of the box, it adds movement to an otherwise static object.

You Will Need

• sage and cream colored pencils
• red colored pencil for ribbon
• fine pencil for paper creases
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Sage Green,Cream,Ribbon Red,Shadow Red

Keep the quick ten minute version to a plain wrapped box and bow, then add the folding paper and loose ribbon only if you want the fuller scene.

Keep the cozy mood going with a bunny peeking out of a stocking, just the head and ears showing over a knitted red cuff. Draw the stocking shape first, wide at the top and tapering down, then fit the bunny’s head and front paws resting over the cuff as if it just popped up to look around.

The stocking’s knit cuff is the small texture challenge here, so use a kneaded eraser to lift thin light lines out of a solid red base, which reads as ribbing far faster than drawing each ridge in dark pencil. Let the body of the stocking fade into shadow below the cuff, since the reader’s eye only needs the top portion to understand the whole shape.

Finish with a scattering of tiny white gel pen dots near the toe for a snowflake pattern if you want a bit more detail.

Tip for today: keep the bunny’s ears slightly asymmetrical, one leaning more than the other, it makes the peeking pose feel curious instead of stiff.

You Will Need

• red colored pencil for stocking
• kneaded eraser
• cream colored pencil for bunny
• white gel pen

Palette: Stocking Red,Cuff Cream,Bunny Cream,Blush

Try the same pose with the stocking hanging at an angle rather than straight down, it suggests it is hung on a mantel just out of frame.

Try a bunny ice skating next, a good subject for practicing balance and proportion together. Measure the body against itself before you commit to ink: the bunny’s torso leaning forward should be roughly the same length as one back leg extended behind it, which keeps the glide pose believable instead of awkward.

Draw the skates as small simple boots with a single curved blade line, then angle the whole body slightly off vertical to suggest motion rather than standing still on ice. Shade the ice beneath with a few short gray-blue curved strokes radiating from the skate blade, which reads as a fresh carve mark in the surface.

Keep the bunny’s scarf flying out behind in a soft curve, the same red as other pieces in this set if you want the page to feel connected.

Tip for today: lean the whole figure, ears included, in the same direction as the front leg, a straight upright bunny on skates never looks like it is actually moving.

You Will Need

• gray-blue pencil for ice
• red pencil for scarf
• cream colored pencil
• ruler or scrap paper for measuring

Palette: Ice Blue Gray,Scarf Red,Cream,Blush

Add one small motion line trailing from the back skate blade, a single curved stroke does more for the sense of glide than several short marks.

Warm things up again with a bunny baking cookies, apron on and a tray of little shapes in front of it. Sketch the bunny standing at a small table or counter edge, one paw resting on a baking tray holding three or four simple cookie shapes, stars or circles are easiest to draw well at this level.

An apron is a new prop here, so draw it as one soft curved panel tied at the back with a simple bow rather than fussing over folds, and let it sit in a gentle sage or cream to contrast against the cookies. The cookies themselves are the forty-minute detail: a quick version leaves them plain tan circles, while a fuller version adds tiny red icing dots or a zigzag of white gel pen icing on each one.

Keep the counter simple, just a flat line and maybe a rolling pin, so it does not compete with the bunny.

Tip for today: vary the cookie shapes slightly, a star, a circle and a little tree, rather than drawing three identical shapes in a row.

You Will Need

• tan and cream colored pencils
• sage pencil for apron
• white gel pen for icing
• red pencil for icing dots

Palette: Cookie Tan,Apron Sage,Cream,Icing Red

Try drawing the tray from slightly above rather than straight on, it lets you show the tops of all the cookies clearly in one simple oval shape.

For something a little sweeter, draw a bunny under mistletoe with another bunny, two figures sharing one small moment. Place the mistletoe sprig well above both heads first so you know where to leave space, then build each bunny slightly turned toward the other rather than facing straight out at the viewer.

This pairing is a good place to practice light touch with blush pencil, since a faint wash of pink across both sets of cheeks does more to suggest warmth and affection than any added detail would. Keep the two bunnies close but not overlapping too much, a small gap or one touching paw is enough to read as togetherness.

Color the mistletoe itself in sage with two or three small white gel pen dots for berries, kept tiny so it frames the scene instead of pulling focus.

Tip for today: tilt both heads very slightly toward each other, even a small five degree lean reads as connection far more than two bunnies drawn perfectly upright.

You Will Need

• blush colored pencil
• cream colored pencil
• sage pencil for mistletoe
• white gel pen for berries

Palette: Blush,Cream,Sage Green,Soft White

Keep the mistletoe sprig small and high in the frame, oversized greenery pulls the eye away from the two bunnies who should be the real focus.

Scale things right down with a bunny in a teacup, a charming subject that plays with size on purpose. Draw the teacup first as a simple rounded shape with a small handle, then fit the bunny curled inside it so its ears and the curve of its back just peek over the rim.

Getting the proportion right is the whole trick here: measure the cup’s width against the bunny’s folded body before you commit to ink, the bunny should look snugly tucked in rather than too small to be believable or so large it looks uncomfortable. A floral or striped pattern around the cup’s edge adds a nice vintage touch, kept to two or three simple repeated marks rather than a full wraparound design.

Shade the inside of the cup slightly darker where the bunny’s body curves away from the light, which helps it read as sitting inside rather than pasted on top.

Tip for today: add a thin steam curl rising from behind the bunny, it suggests a second cup of tea nearby without drawing one.

You Will Need

• cream and blush colored pencils
• soft blue or sage for cup pattern
• fine pencil for cup details
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Teacup Cream,Soft Sage,Blush,Pale Blue

Try a different cup shape next time, a tall mug instead of a wide teacup, to see how the bunny’s curled pose needs to adjust to still fit snugly.

Settle into a quieter pose with a bunny with earmuffs reading a book, a nice one for practicing a seated figure holding an object. Draw the bunny sitting back on its haunches first, then fit the earmuffs over the ears as a simple curved band with two round pads, and rest a small open book in its front paws.

Eye level matters here since the book should angle slightly toward the viewer rather than lying flat, which lets you suggest a page or two with a few short pencil lines instead of drawing full text. Keep the light coming from one side, maybe a window just out of frame, so one ear and one side of the book catch a touch more cream highlight than the other.

Color the earmuffs in a soft red or berry tone to match other pieces in the set, and keep the book itself in muted cream or sage so it does not outshine the bunny’s face.

Tip for today: angle the bunny’s head down toward the book rather than out at the viewer, it is the single biggest thing that makes a reading pose convincing.

You Will Need

• red or berry colored pencil for earmuffs
• cream and sage colored pencils
• fine pencil for book lines
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Earmuff Berry,Book Sage,Cream,Blush

Try lightly drawing a few wavy lines instead of straight ones on the book pages, it suggests print without needing readable words.

Bring some reach and stretch into the page with a bunny hanging a bauble, paws raised up toward an unseen branch. Draw the bunny up on its back legs or on tiptoe with both front paws lifted, holding a round bauble by its small hook, which naturally stretches the body into a taller, more dynamic shape than most of the seated poses so far.

A sphere like a bauble is good practice for shading in the round: keep one side lit with a soft cream highlight and let the opposite side deepen into shadow, with a small bright dot left white or near-white for the shine. Color choices matter here too, since a red bauble against cream fur reads very differently from a sage one, so pick whichever keeps the palette balanced if you are drawing several of these in a row.

Let the branch itself stay suggested rather than fully drawn, just a short diagonal line is enough.

Tip for today: leave one small uncolored dot on the bauble for shine before you add any other color, it is much harder to add convincingly after the base color is down.

You Will Need

• red or sage colored pencil for bauble
• cream colored pencil
• white gel pen for shine
• fine pencil for branch

Palette: Bauble Red,Cream,Shadow Blush,Sage Green

Try a cluster of three small baubles instead of one next time, it adds variety to the pose while keeping the same shading approach.

For a bigger, more playful scene, try a bunny riding a reindeer, a two-animal pairing that is really about scale. Draw the reindeer first as the larger shape, simple rounded body and long legs with small antlers, then perch the bunny on its back holding onto the fur or a loose rein made from a thin ribbon.

Comparing sizes before you begin saves this one from going wrong: the reindeer’s head alone should be roughly the size of the bunny’s whole body, which keeps the pairing readable at a glance instead of looking like two same-sized animals awkwardly stacked. Keep the reindeer in warm browns and cream, with small red accents on a ribbon rein or a tiny bell at its neck to tie it to the rest of your bunny pieces.

Let the bunny’s ears fly back slightly as if the reindeer is moving at a trot, which adds life to what could otherwise be a static pairing.

Tip for today: draw the reindeer’s legs slightly bent rather than straight, locked straight legs read as a toy, while a gentle bend suggests real movement underneath the bunny.

You Will Need

• brown colored pencil for reindeer
• cream colored pencil for bunny
• red pencil for ribbon and bell
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Reindeer Brown,Cream,Bunny Blush,Ribbon Red

Try this scene from a slightly low angle, looking up at the reindeer, it makes the pairing feel more like an adventure in motion.

Build a tiny bit of architecture with a bunny in a gingerbread house window, peeking out from a cozy candy-colored home. Draw the window frame first as a simple arched or square shape trimmed with a line of icing-white gel pen, then fit the bunny’s head and paws resting on the sill as if looking out.

The gingerbread house itself only needs a hint of its surface, warm tan-brown walls and a dusting of white gel pen dots for icing, since the window and the bunny inside it should carry the whole piece. Keep perspective simple by drawing the window straight on rather than at an angle, which keeps the bunny’s face clearly readable and avoids any tricky foreshortening.

Add one small candy cane or frosted shutter beside the window for a bit of extra charm without adding much drawing time.

Tip for today: use the white gel pen for icing details last, over the finished colored pencil, since it shows up far better on top of color than underneath it.

You Will Need

• tan-brown colored pencil for house
• white gel pen for icing
• cream colored pencil for bunny
• red pencil for candy cane trim

Palette: Gingerbread Brown,Icing White,Cream,Candy Red

Try adding a tiny light glowing inside the window behind the bunny using a soft yellow pencil, it gives the whole house a warmer, lived-in feeling.

Keep things simple again with a bunny with a candy cane, one of the quickest pieces in this whole set to finish. Draw the bunny holding the candy cane upright in both paws like a little staff, with the curved hook end near its face, which gives you an easy excuse to practice a clean curved line.

Striping the candy cane is the one hands-on trick here: lay down the white base first, then add thin diagonal red stripes with a light, steady hand rather than pressing hard, since pencil strokes that are too heavy look clumsy on something meant to look glassy and smooth. A blending stump over the white sections afterward smooths out any stray pencil texture.

Keep the bunny itself very simple, since the candy cane is doing most of the visual work in this piece.

Tip for today: draw the stripes slightly curved rather than perfectly straight, following the curve of the cane shape makes them look wrapped rather than painted on.

You Will Need

• white and red colored pencils
• blending stump
• cream colored pencil for bunny
• fine pencil for stripe guidelines

Palette: Candy White,Candy Red,Cream,Blush

Try the ten minute version with just the candy cane and a simple bunny face peeking from behind it, saving full body detail for when you have longer.

Return to a classic with a bunny wearing a Santa hat, simple and instantly festive. Draw the hat as a soft triangle shape that droops slightly to one side rather than standing perfectly stiff, with a round white pompom at the tip and a fluffy white band at the base, both suggested with light scribbled pencil texture rather than hard outlines.

Fit the hat over one ear so the other ear pokes up free beside it, which keeps the silhouette interesting instead of symmetrical and a little stiff. Red is the main color here, so lay it down in smooth, even layers and save your darkest red for the fold where the hat dips down, which gives it real weight and fabric feel.

Keep the bunny’s face simple and sweet, a small smile and soft round eyes are enough alongside all that hat detail.

Tip for today: let the pompom and brim stay slightly uneven rather than perfectly round, a little asymmetry makes the fluff look soft instead of plastic.

You Will Need

• red colored pencil for hat
• white colored pencil for trim
• cream colored pencil for bunny
• blending stump

Palette: Santa Red,Hat Shadow Red,Trim White,Cream

Try tilting the hat further to one side than feels natural at first, a jauntier angle reads as playful rather than careless once it is finished.

Frame the bunny itself with a bunny sitting in a wreath, using the wreath shape almost like a little nest. Draw a simple circular wreath first, built from small overlapping sage pencil strokes rather than one solid ring, then fit the bunny curled comfortably inside the open center.

Working the wreath in layers from light to dark sage gives it real depth, with a few scattered red berries and one small bow at the bottom to break up all that green. The mistake to watch for is making the wreath too thick, which crowds out the bunny, so keep the ring slim enough that the bunny remains clearly the main subject sitting inside it.

Let a little bit of the wreath overlap the bunny’s back or ear, which helps the two shapes feel woven together instead of simply stacked.

Tip for today: group the berries in small clusters of two or three rather than spacing them evenly around the ring, clusters look more natural and draw the eye exactly where you want it.

You Will Need

• sage colored pencil for wreath
• red colored pencil for berries and bow
• cream colored pencil for bunny
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Wreath Sage,Berry Red,Cream,Bow Red

Try adding a thin ribbon hanger at the top of the wreath even though nothing holds it up, it suggests the scene hangs on a door just out of frame.

For a bit of gentle humor, draw a bunny making a snow bunny, its own tiny snow sculpture version of itself. Stack three simple circles for the snow bunny, smaller than a snowman’s three balls, then give it two small stick ears made from twigs and simple dot eyes, while the real bunny stands beside it patting the top ball into shape.

Comparing the two figures side by side is the whole point here, so keep the real bunny noticeably larger and more detailed than its snowy copy, which should stay plain white with only a few simple features. A pale blue-gray shadow pencil along the base of the snow bunny and a faint blue line separating its three sections helps it read as packed snow rather than a flat white blob.

Keep the real bunny’s pose active, one paw patting or smoothing the top snowball, to show the moment of making it rather than just standing next to a finished one.

Tip for today: give the snow bunny’s twig ears a slight uneven tilt, a little wonkiness is what makes a snow sculpture charming instead of too polished.

You Will Need

• white colored pencil for snow bunny
• pale blue-gray pencil for shadow
• cream colored pencil for real bunny
• fine pencil for twig ears

Palette: Snow White,Shadow Blue,Cream,Blush

Try this scene with a tiny carrot nose on the snow bunny for a fun nod to a traditional snowman’s nose, scaled right down to size.

Take the lantern idea further with a bunny holding a lantern in the forest, a slightly moodier nighttime scene. Draw the bunny standing in the center holding a small lantern up or out in front, then rough in a few simple tree trunk shapes behind it using vertical lines that fade in darkness toward the top of the page.

Since night is the setting, work the background in deep sage-gray and soft navy pencil first, then let the lantern’s glow push outward in cream and pale yellow, brightest right at the bunny and fading into the dark the further it spreads. This is the one scene in the set where you want real contrast, so do not be afraid to push the background darker than feels comfortable, since that darkness is exactly what makes the lantern glow convincing.

Keep the trees simple silhouettes rather than detailed trunks, since detail here competes with the glow instead of supporting it.

Tip for today: leave a soft circle of paper lighter right around the lantern before adding any dark background pencil, it is much easier to keep that glow bright than to lift color back out later.

You Will Need

• deep sage-gray and navy pencils
• cream and pale yellow pencils
• smooth drawing paper
• blending stump

Palette: Night Navy,Forest Sage,Lantern Cream,Glow Yellow

Try the same scene lit by moonlight instead of a lantern, swapping the warm glow for a cool pale blue pool of light around the bunny.

Bring the mood back indoors with a bunny in pajamas by the tree, a relaxed bedtime scene near the glow of holiday lights. Draw the bunny seated or lying on its stomach looking up at a Christmas tree just visible at the edge of the page, dressed in a simple one-piece pajama shape with a soft pattern of tiny dots or stars.

Keep the tree itself suggested rather than fully drawn, a triangle shape in sage with a few scattered colored dots for ornaments is enough, since the bunny in the foreground should be the clear focus. Pajama fabric is a nice place to practice soft folds, so add a few light gray-blush shadow lines at the elbow and knee rather than drawing the fabric perfectly smooth and flat.

A small string of warm lights along the tree’s edge, dotted in soft yellow pencil, ties the whole scene together nicely.

Tip for today: draw the bunny’s eyes looking upward rather than straight ahead, it immediately connects its gaze to the tree beside it.

You Will Need

• cream colored pencil for pajamas
• blush-gray pencil for fold shadows
• sage pencil for tree
• yellow pencil for lights

Palette: Pajama Cream,Fold Shadow,Tree Sage,Light Yellow

Try this scene from a slightly higher angle looking down, it makes the bunny feel small and cozy against a tree that towers just above it.

Pair up two animals again with a bunny sharing a carrot with a deer, a gentle moment of friendship between two very different sizes. Draw the deer first, simple and small-antlered or antlerless if it reads as a fawn, then have the bunny stand on its back legs offering one end of a carrot while the deer leans its head down to the other.

Check the proportion between them before adding any color: the deer’s head alone should dwarf the bunny’s whole body a little, similar to the reindeer piece earlier but with a gentler, more intimate pose since they are facing each other rather than one riding the other. Keep both animals’ expressions soft, with eyes slightly closed or relaxed rather than wide open, which reads as calm affection instead of excitement.

Color the deer in warm fawn-brown with white belly patches, and let the shared carrot stay the one bright orange note between them.

Tip for today: leave a small gap of white paper between the two noses rather than having them touch, that small space actually makes the moment feel more tender and considered.

You Will Need

• fawn-brown colored pencil for deer
• cream colored pencil for bunny
• orange colored pencil for carrot
• white colored pencil for deer markings

Palette: Fawn Brown,Cream,Carrot Orange,Soft White

Try this scene with the deer lying down instead of standing, bringing its head level with the standing bunny for an even gentler composition.

Slow the pace down again with a bunny writing a letter to Santa, paws holding a tiny pencil over paper. Draw the bunny seated at a small table or simply on the floor, with a sheet of paper in front of it and one paw holding a small stick or quill shape rather than a realistic modern pencil, which keeps the old-fashioned Christmas feel.

A few wavy lines on the page suggest handwriting without needing to be legible, and a quick squiggle for a signature at the bottom adds a nice finishing touch. The place this goes wrong is making the paper too large relative to the bunny’s paws, so check the paper’s width against the bunny’s head before committing to final lines, since paper roughly as wide as the head looks natural while anything much bigger looks like a tablecloth.

Keep the bunny’s expression thoughtful, eyes slightly up and to the side as if considering what to write next.

Tip for today: curl one corner of the paper slightly upward, it is a tiny detail that makes the whole page feel like real paper rather than a flat rectangle.

You Will Need

• cream colored pencil for paper and bunny
• brown pencil for quill
• fine pencil for handwriting lines
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Paper Cream,Quill Brown,Bunny Cream,Blush

Try drawing a crumpled ball of paper beside the bunny for a second try at the letter, it adds a nice small story of effort to the scene.

Add a bit of architecture again with a bunny in a red mailbox, peeking out of the small flap door. Draw the mailbox as a simple rounded-top box shape on a post, with the flap door open and the bunny’s head and paws resting on the lower edge as if it just climbed partway out.

Since the mailbox is a manufactured object rather than something organic like fur, keep its edges clean and slightly harder than the soft bunny lines around it, which creates a nice contrast between rigid metal and round fur. A small red flag on the side, raised to show there is mail inside, and a tiny envelope peeking out beside the bunny are both easy additions that add story without much extra time.

Color the box in a slightly deeper red than the bunny’s typical scarf or bow red, which helps it read as solid painted metal instead of soft fabric.

Tip for today: leave one small highlight stripe of bare cream paper along the top curved edge of the mailbox, it reads instantly as light catching painted metal.

You Will Need

• deep red colored pencil for mailbox
• cream colored pencil for bunny
• white or cream pencil for envelope
• fine pencil for flap details

Palette: Mailbox Red,Cream,Envelope White,Blush

Try tilting the mailbox post slightly, a perfectly straight post can look stiff, while a small lean suggests it has stood in the snow a long while.

Shift the palette slightly with a bunny with a pink present, breaking from the usual red accent for one piece. Draw the bunny seated and hugging a wrapped box to its chest, the box itself a simple rectangle wrapped in soft pink paper with a cream or white ribbon crossing it, which gives you a nice excuse to try a second accent color in this otherwise red-heavy set.

Pink works differently from red on paper since it needs a lighter touch to avoid looking chalky, so build it in thin layers and check against your scrap paper as you go rather than pressing hard all at once. Keep the ribbon’s bow simple, two loops and two short tails, and let one tail curl slightly to catch a bit of shadow underneath it.

Let the bunny’s cheek rest gently against the top of the box, which suggests real affection for the gift rather than simply holding it out.

Tip for today: layer pink over a very thin base of cream first rather than straight onto white paper, it gives the pink a warmer, softer finish than laying it down alone.

You Will Need

• pink colored pencil
• cream colored pencil for base layer and bunny
• white pencil for ribbon
• blending stump

Palette: Soft Pink,Cream,Ribbon White,Blush

Try swapping the pink for a pale lilac next time, the same soft layering method works for any pastel accent you want to introduce to the palette.

Rest things for a moment with a bunny on a pile of pillows, a soft, loose piece good for practicing comfortable, slouched poses. Stack three or four simple pillow shapes first, each slightly overlapping and tilted at a different angle, then let the bunny sink into the top one with its body relaxed and one ear flopped rather than upright.

Pillows are a nice chance to try pattern without much effort, so give each one a different simple fill, a few plaid lines, small dots, or a soft solid color, which adds variety without needing fine detail. The place this goes wrong is drawing the bunny too stiffly on top of the pile instead of sinking into it, so add a soft shadow line where the body presses down into the pillow fabric to suggest real weight and softness.

Keep the overall palette gentle here, this is a quiet piece rather than a busy one.

Tip for today: let one pillow corner poke out from behind the bunny rather than keeping every edge tidy, it makes the whole pile feel soft and a little rumpled instead of stiffly arranged.

You Will Need

• cream and sage colored pencils for pillows
• blush pencil for pattern accents
• fine pencil for pillow seams
• smooth drawing paper

Palette: Pillow Cream,Pillow Sage,Blush Accent,Bunny Cream

Try this piece with a single giant pillow instead of a stack, it simplifies the drawing while keeping the same relaxed, sunken pose for the bunny.

Close the set with a bunny ballerina in a tutu, a bit of grace and movement to finish on. Draw the bunny up on its back legs in a simple dancer’s pose, one leg extended slightly and both front paws raised in a soft curve above the head, with a layered tutu skirt made from several short overlapping scallop shapes rather than one solid cone.

Balance is the real challenge in this pose, so lightly sketch a straight vertical guideline down through the center of the body before you draw the limbs, which keeps the bunny from toppling visually to one side once the final lines go down. Layer the tutu in soft pastel colors, cream and blush work nicely with small sage or red trim at the waistband to keep it connected to the rest of the set.

Keep the bunny’s expression serene, chin slightly lifted, which suits the pose far better than a big open smile.

Tip for today: draw the tutu’s scallops slightly uneven in size, perfectly matched scallops look stiff while small variations suggest soft tulle layers catching the air.

You Will Need

• cream and blush colored pencils for tutu
• sage or red pencil for trim
• fine pencil for balance guideline
• smooth drawing paper

Try this pose mid turn instead of standing still, tilting the head and tutu slightly to one side for a sense of spinning rather than posing.

What to Do Next

Pick whichever bunny caught your eye first, whether it is the sleepy one in a mitten or the ballerina mid turn, and start on a sheet of smooth paper with a light pencil sketch before any color goes down. One finished piece today is plenty, and the rest of the list will still be here the next time you want another cozy little scene.

Frequently Asked Questions

What colored pencils work best for a christmas bunny drawing in soft pastels?

Soft, wax-based colored pencils blend best for this style since they layer smoothly without heavy pencil lines. Look for a set with cream, blush, sage and a strong red, since those four cover almost every idea in this list.

How do I keep the bunny’s proportions looking right?

Sketch the body as one simple oval and compare the ears, which should run roughly as long as the head and body combined. Checking that measurement before adding detail saves most proportion mistakes before they happen.

What paper should I use for colored pencil bunny drawings?

A smooth to lightly textured drawing paper, like bristol or a smooth mixed media sheet, holds layered colored pencil best. Rough watercolor paper fights the pencil and makes fine fur detail harder to control.

How do I make the fur look soft instead of scribbly?

Layer light, short strokes in the direction fur would naturally grow, building color gradually rather than pressing hard in one pass. A blending stump smooths over the top once a few layers are down, softening any visible lines.

Can I draw these christmas bunny drawing ideas without the exact colors listed?

Yes, the palette here is a guide rather than a rule, so swap in whatever cream, blush, sage or red pencils you already own. Keeping the same general warm, soft tone across pieces is what ties a set together, not the exact brand or shade.
