This set of victorian paper dolls brings together a whole 1880s and 1890s family, a full household of ladies in bustle gowns, gentlemen in frock coats and top hats, and children in sailor suits and pinafores, each one holding a small period prop that tells its own little story. Use them on handmade cards, as gift tags, or as the anchor figure on a junk journal page, mixing a lady and a gentleman for a couple, or a mother and child for a family spread.
Print every sheet on matte cardstock at actual size, then cut around each doll with a thin white edge left showing, which keeps the fine linework crisp and the colors from bleeding at the edge.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Ladies at Leisure
Auburn ringlets and a rose bustle gown make this young lady a natural centerpiece for a spring card, her lace parasol tilted as though she just stepped off a garden path. She suits a friend who loves a proper tea party or a quiet afternoon walk.
Pair her with a gentleman doll from this set for a courting scene on a journal spread, the two of them angled toward each other on a strip of painted pavement.
A gentleman with a curled mustache, a gray frock coat and a top hat stands proud with his walking cane, perfect for a father figure card or a dapper anchor on a wedding themed junk journal page.
Nursery Days
Blonde ringlets bounce over a white pinafore as this little girl giggles at the porcelain doll cradled in her arms, the kind of sweetness that wins over any grandchild helping with the cutting out.
A craft stick glued behind her back lets her stand up in a shadow box or a shelf display, propped between a teacup and a small vase of dried flowers.
Excitement lights up this boy in a navy sailor suit as he rolls a wooden hoop with a stick, a fine addition to a card for a grandson or a page about summer afternoons in the garden.
A dark chignon and a plum walking dress give this lady a look of quiet sophistication, opera glasses raised as though she just spotted someone interesting across the room.
Mount her on foam dots over a painted theater backdrop for a touch of dimension, or set her beside the sapphire evening gown lady for a night at the opera scene.
Family Circle
A lace cap and black silk dress mark this grandmother as the gentle heart of the set, her knitting basket held warmly, ideal for a card to a grandmother or the matriarch figure on a family tree journal page.
Long gloves and a lilac ball gown suit a young lady caught blushing, her velvet reticule held close as though she just received a compliment at a dance.
Write a teasing line beside her about a first dance or a secret admirer, the kind of card that makes a granddaughter smile when she opens it.
Cheerful and tweedy in a Norfolk jacket, this gentleman holds his butterfly net high as though he just spotted his quarry, a good match for a nature themed card or a summer journal spread.
Dark braids and a tartan dress frame this girl’s proud smile as she holds up a birdcage with a canary inside, a cheerful detail for a spring card or an Easter adjacent journal page.
The five minute version works just as well: cut around the doll only, skip the base, and glue her straight onto a card front for a quick gift.
A striped bathing costume and a hearty laugh make this lady a summer favorite, her bucket and spade swinging as though she just raced down to the water. She pairs well with the seashell girl for a beach themed card.
A velvet suit with a lace collar does not stop this boy from pouting hard, his toy drum held as though he has just been told it is bedtime.
A funny line about refusing to share the drum with a sibling fits neatly beside him, a joke any parent of small children will recognize at once.
Pinned-up brown hair and a gray dress give this governess a stern but kind look, her school slate held up as though mid lesson, a sharp addition to a back to school card for a teacher.
A flower trimmed hat tops this dreamy young lady in a mint promenade dress, her posy of violets held close to her face as though she is breathing in the scent.
Tuck her into a junk journal spread about spring walks, layered behind a strip of torn vellum for a soft, old fashioned look.
White whiskers and a brocade waistcoat suit a gentleman caught mid yawn, his pocket watch half open as though he dozed off checking the time, a gentle laugh for a card to an uncle or grandfather.
A red cape and bonnet wrap this shy little girl, her basket of primroses held low as though she is peeking out from behind it.
She works beautifully as a gift tag for a small Easter or spring present, her cape cut to overlap the edge of the tag for a little dimension.
Amazement spreads across this lady’s face in her emerald velvet gown as she holds up a glass terrarium full of ferns, a fine match for a botanical themed card or a simple watercolor flowers inspired journal page.
Knickerbockers and a cap give this boy a cheeky, mischievous air as his spinning top whirls beside him, caught in the exact moment it starts to wobble.
Foam dots under just the top itself lift it slightly off the page, giving the whole doll a bit of motion when the light catches it.
White lace and a china teacup held with both hands give this lady a calm, serene presence, lovely for a thank you card or paired with the knitting grandmother for a quiet parlor scene.
A boater hat and striped blazer suit a young man smiling easily, his rowing oar resting against one shoulder as though he just stepped off the river.
He makes a cheerful groomsman style figure on a wedding card, standing beside the sapphire gown lady or the opera glasses lady for a summer party scene.
Girls at Play
Mid twirl in a pale blue frock with a sash, this girl swings her skipping rope with pure joy, a lively choice for a birthday card for a young girl or a playground scene in a journal.
Copper curls frame a look of pure concentration as this lady works her embroidery hoop, needle poised mid stitch, a doll any quilter or embroiderer among your readers will recognize instantly.
Set her beside the knitting grandmother for a needlework themed card, with a handwritten line about slow, patient hands.
A frilled smock and a wooden rattle make this toddler the baby of the family, caught mid giggle with the rattle shaking in one fist, perfect for a new baby card or a nursery journal page.
A velvet beret sets this gentleman artist apart, his gaze dreamy and distant as he holds a paint splashed palette, a fitting figure for a card to any creative friend who paints or sketches.
He anchors a studio themed junk journal spread nicely, surrounded by torn scraps of patterned paper standing in for canvases.
Bloomers and a cycling outfit suit this lady’s triumphant grin as she holds her straw boater aloft, a doll that celebrates any independent, sporty grandmother or aunt in the family.
A sailor dress suits this girl’s pure amazement as she holds a seashell up to the light, mouth open as though she can hear the sea inside it.
She pairs naturally with the bathing costume lady and the rowing young man for a full beach holiday scene across a two page spread.
Black curls and a sapphire evening gown give this lady a sparkling presence, her feathered fan half open as though she just turned to greet someone at a ball, a striking choice for an anniversary card.
Schoolroom and Study
A little tailcoat dresses up this boy’s nerves as he clutches his violin before a recital, shoulders slightly hunched, the kind of gentle worry a grandmother card can tease kindly.
A short line about shaky knees before the big performance sits well beside him, warm rather than teasing.
A practical tweed skirt suits this lady botanist’s thrill as she holds up her book of pressed flowers, fresh discovery written across her face, a fine closing figure for any nature journal spread.

Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for Victorian paper dolls?
Matte cardstock between 65 and 110 lb gives the cleanest result. It holds fine linework without warping and feels sturdy enough to handle, stand up, or glue onto a card front.
What printer settings give the sharpest lines?
Set the printer to its highest quality or photo setting and print at actual size, not scaled to fit. Choose matte or plain paper in the printer driver so ink does not pool on the costume details.
How do you cut out the fine details like parasols and lace?
Small detail scissors handle curves and narrow gaps best, with a craft knife for tight inside corners like the birdcage bars. Cut slowly and leave the thin white edge rather than trimming exactly to the line.
How do you make the dolls stand up on their own?
Glue a folded cardstock tab or a short craft stick to the back of each doll near the feet. A small triangle of cardstock folded into a stand also works well for a shelf display.
Can these dolls be used for more than cards?
Yes, beyond cards they suit gift tags, junk journal focal pages, and scrapbook layouts about family history or heirloom sewing. Grouping a lady, gentleman and child together builds a small scene on a single page.
