Table of Contents
This jane eyre junk journal kit gathers scenes straight from Charlotte Bronte’s novel: Thornfield Hall across the park, a governess’s candlelit room, the moor path with its stone wall and every quiet, bookish corner in between. There are 22 scene pages, 4 seamless background papers and 5 lined writing pages, so the whole set works together as one finished journal.
Print on heavyweight matte paper (at least 24 lb, or a light cardstock if your printer takes it) and set the printer to its best or ‘photo’ quality so the washes stay soft. Trim each sheet to your journal’s size before gluing, and flip through the questions below if you get stuck on paper or settings.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Thornfield and Its Grounds
A wide stretch of misty parkland leads the eye to Thornfield Hall itself, its chimneys and battlements fading into grey morning air, worth its own full page as the journal’s opening scene.
Pair this one with the heather and thistle pattern from the background section further on, using a strip of it as a mat behind the page or a pocket tucked along the bottom edge for pressed petals.
Glue a small torn strip of plain paper along one of the doors to suggest a line of light underneath, or leave the corridor as it prints and simply add a date in the corner.
The usual mistake here is crowding the hallway with too many doors; keep just two or three so the candle stays the clear focus and the shadows have room to fall.
Best suited to the part of the journal where the story turns darker: a reader working chronologically might save this page for near the end, after the library and corridor pages.
A Governess’s Quiet Rooms
Try tea-staining just the bottom edge of this page before gluing it in, so the small room feels worn and lived-in the way a governess’s chamber would after years of use.
What would you write here: a line about the view outside, or a quiet thought copied from your own favourite book? Either fits a page built for sitting still and reading.
Place this page next to the window seat scene in your spread, so the two reading corners sit side by side and the warm firelight plays against the cooler light from the window.
A teacup on its saucer, a slice of seed cake and a folded napkin sit near the hearth, with the fire’s warm glow painted softly across the whole small table scene.
Lowood and the Schoolroom
For a beginner, this page works well plain; for someone more confident, try adding a torn paper label along one bench reading a short lesson or date, glued flat before the page goes in.
Fits nicely on a page meant for a gift journal made for a young reader who loves old dolls and old stories just as much as the moor and the manor.
A pencil portrait pinned to a tilted drawing board sits beside a tin of chalks, a soft cloth and a jar of water, a plain studio wall washed in behind the easel.
The Moor and Its Weather
Walking the moor alone or with a companion, worth thirty minutes with nothing but a stone wall, a line of heather and open sky for company.
A five-minute version of this page works just as well: paint only the lane, the horse and the dusk sky, skip any extra detail, and let the cold colour carry the scene.
A tall chestnut stands cracked clean down its trunk, one half leaning away from the other, fallen leaves scattered at its base and a stormy sky painted behind the whole broken tree.
Try a small window cut into this page, with a second sheet of warm yellow paper glued behind it, so the cottage light actually glows when you lift the journal to the lamp.
Quiet and still, suited to a page near the end of a journal built around loss and memory rather than one used for daily writing.
Fits well as a small companion to the window seat page earlier in this set, placed opposite it in a spread so the two windows face each other across the fold.
Keepsakes and Small Treasures
Leave a real pocket along the top of this page: a folded letter, a pressed flower or a torn ticket all slide in neatly behind the painted desk and wax seal.
A strand of pearls coiled inside an open velvet box, a small key and a folded ribbon resting beside it, a soft shadowed surface painted behind the whole quiet still life.
The usual mistake with this page is painting the veil too stiff and flat; let the watercolor pool loosely at the folds so the fabric looks soft against the chair.
A leather riding crop and a pair of gloves rest beside a small dish and a folded cloth on a narrow hall table, a shadowed wall painted behind the whole arrangement.
A good spread partner for the drawing board page: set the two side by side so the journal moves from a finished portrait to a loose working sketchbook in one turn of the leaf.
Background Papers
Small sprigs of heather and thistle repeat edge to edge in this muted paper, ready to sit under a photo, line a pocket, or wrap a plain journal cover.
A quiet damask scroll repeats across this sheet, suited to a cover wrap, a pocket lining behind the letter page, or a simple mat for the portrait sketch.
Tiny birds perched on short branches scatter evenly across this paper, good under a photo of a windowsill scene, inside a pocket, or as endpapers for the whole journal.
A worn parchment texture scattered with faint ink blots works well behind the writing desk page, as a cover lining, or cut into strips for pocket edges throughout the set.
Lined Writing Pages
Write a short gift list for someone who loves old novels, a line about a favourite chapter, or the date of your next walk on the moor in the space inside.
Good for a letter to next year, a short recipe copied from memory, or a line of dialogue you loved from the book, written in the open space between the borders.
Suited to a longer entry: a reflection on the ruined manor page, a packing list for a weekend away, or notes on a walk through old stone country.
Try it for an autumn menu, a short list of books to read next, or a note tucked beside the chestnut tree scene earlier in the set.
Use the space for a weather log from your own walks, a short poem, or a line about the view from the window seat page earlier in the journal.
What to Do Next
Print the pages you want first, trim them to size, and start gluing from the first scene page; for more classic novel sets, look at the Pride and Prejudice journal kit or the Jane Austen journal kit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for printing these jane eyre junk journal pages?
Heavyweight matte cardstock, at least 24 lb, holds the washes without buckling or showing through. Plain copy paper works for a quick test print but feels thin once glued into a finished journal.
What printer settings give the best colour on these pages?
Select your printer’s best or ‘photo’ quality setting before printing. This slows the print slightly but keeps the soft watercolor blends smooth instead of banded or streaky.
What size should I print the pages for a standard junk journal?
Print at full page size on US letter or A4, then trim to your journal’s cover size. Most handmade journals run smaller than a printed sheet, so trimming after printing gives a cleaner edge than resizing in the printer.
Can I color or add to these pages after printing?
Yes, colored pencils and fine liner pens both sit well on matte cardstock over the printed washes. Keep added marks light so they read as handwriting rather than competing with the painted scene.
What glue is safe for assembling the pages into a journal?
An acid-free glue stick works well and will not wrinkle the paper or seep through to the front. Keep a pair of small scissors nearby for trimming pockets and borders as you glue.
