A silly cat drawing is the fastest way to turn a blank page into a laugh, especially when the subject is a cat who has just discovered that winter exists. Every cat owner knows this exact look: the offended paw shake, the frozen stare at falling snow, the mad dash for the one warm seat in the house. These are the moments worth drawing.
Below are 29 of them, each a complete scene you can draw and color with markers in one sitting. Work through them in order if you like, from the simplest poses to the busier scenes, or just pick whichever cat disaster matches your own cat today.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Start with a cat paw lifting disgust: the simplest pose on this list and a good warm up for your marker hand. Block in the cat’s body low and round with the fineliner, one back paw planted and one front paw held up stiff in midair, toes spread wide.
Keep the snow underneath as a flat white shape with a soft blue fineliner edge, so the cat’s grey or ginger fur reads clearly against it. Color the body first in smooth marker strokes, leave the lifted paw pale, then add the shocked face last: round eyes, flat mouth, ears pinned sideways.
If the proportions feel off, measure the paw against the cat’s own head: the lifted paw should be roughly as wide as one eye, which keeps it from looking oversized or like a separate object glued on. If you do not have a blue marker for the snow shadow, a light grey works just as well.
Finish with one small cherry red detail, a collar tag or a tiny bow, so the eye has somewhere to land first.
Palette: Warm Grey,Icy Blue,Cherry Red,Titanium White
Move to the window scene next, a cat staring in shock at its first snowfall. Draw the window frame first as a simple rectangle with the fineliner, then the cat sitting inside it on the sill, spine straight, tail wrapped tight around the paws.
Place the eye level at the cat’s own eye line looking straight out through the glass: this is the trick that sells the scene, because the falling snowflakes outside should sit slightly above center, as if the cat is watching them drift down rather than looking at the ground. Color the glass a pale icy blue and leave a few streaks unblended for a glassy shine.
Work the fur in smooth layered strokes of grey or ginger, then add the face last with huge round pupils and raised eyebrow marks for comic shock. If the window keeps looking flat, add one diagonal highlight stripe of white gel pen across the glass to suggest reflection.
No blue marker on hand works fine with a pale grey instead, since the effect depends more on the highlight than the exact hue.

Give the window-watcher a partner scene: a cat stealing the warm seat the instant someone stands up. Sketch the chair first as a simple curved shape, still warm, then draw the cat mid leap, back legs bent, front paws already reaching for the cushion.
Use diagonal action lines in fineliner trailing behind the cat’s tail to sell the speed, something a still pose cannot do on its own. Color the cushion a warm ginger or soft rose to suggest body heat still sitting there, then layer the cat’s fur in cooler grey so the two feel like different temperatures.
The pose tends to go flat if the cat’s spine is drawn straight, so curve it into a gentle C shape stretching toward the seat, which reads as motion even in a single frozen drawing. No orange marker works fine with a warm yellow instead for the cushion glow.
Finish with one small detail, a dent in the cushion or a stray cat hair floating, to show someone really was just sitting there.
Palette: Ginger Orange,Rose Pink,Cool Grey,Charcoal
Draw the chair cushion slightly dented where someone was just sitting, it makes the theft funnier without adding any extra lines.
Keep the warmth theme going with a cat pressed flat against a radiator like a pancake. Draw the radiator first as a simple grid of vertical lines, then flatten the cat’s whole body along it, legs splayed sideways, belly squashed, chin resting on the top edge.
This pose lives or dies on the squash: keep the cat’s outline wide and low rather than round, almost twice as wide as a normal sitting cat, so the pancake joke reads immediately. Color the radiator in warm orange and red tones radiating outward, then keep the cat’s fur in cooler grey so the contrast does the work.
A soft dry brush stroke of marker along the radiator’s top edge, stroked lightly so the ink fades out, suggests heat shimmer without any extra linework. If red and orange blending feels tricky, a single warm yellow under the radiator reads just as well.
Add one half closed eye for the smug, melted expression that finishes the joke.
Palette: Cherry Red,Ginger Orange,Cool Grey,Soft Yellow
For something smaller and faster, try a cat going cross-eyed at a snowflake balanced on its nose. Draw just the head and shoulders large, filling most of the page, since the whole joke lives in the eyes.
Draw the snowflake first as a tiny six pointed shape right at the tip of the nose, then build both eyes turning inward toward it, which is the single trick that makes this work: push the pupils closer together than feels natural, almost touching in the middle.
Color the face in your usual grey or ginger, then leave the snowflake pure white with just a thin blue fineliner outline so it stays crisp against the fur. If the cross eyed look reads as scared rather than silly, widen the mouth into a small flat line instead of an open one.
A dab of white gel pen on the snowflake’s tips adds a little sparkle without extra drawing time.

Switch indoors for a cat sitting on a laptop keyboard simply because it is warm. Draw the laptop first as an open rectangle shape at a slight angle, screen tilted back, then lower the cat’s body down onto the keys so the belly covers most of the letters.
Keep the cat’s paws tucked under and eyes half shut in total contentment, which contrasts nicely with a tiny visible scrap of screen showing scrambled text or an error box, a small joke that rewards a close look. Color the laptop in cool grey and the cat in warm ginger so the warmth of the body against the cold metal reads clearly.
This scene often goes wrong when the laptop looks too small for the cat, so measure the cat’s body against the keyboard width first: the cat should overhang the keys on both sides. If drawing a laptop screen feels fiddly, simplify it to a plain dark rectangle with two or three scribbled lines.
One tip for next time once this version works: try the same gag with a cat sprawled across a stack of warm laundry instead.
Palette: Cool Grey,Ginger Orange,Charcoal,Soft Blue
Bring the drama outside with a cat planting all four paws to refuse the snowy back door. Draw the open door first as a simple vertical rectangle with snow visible through the gap, then build the cat leaning backward hard, all four legs locked and splayed like braced stilts.
The eye level here matters: set it low, roughly at the cat’s own height, looking straight across the threshold at the snow, which makes the refusal feel like a standoff rather than a shrug. Color the doorway’s snow in cold blue light and keep the hallway behind the cat warm and golden for contrast.
If the bracing pose looks limp, angle the back legs further behind the body than feels natural, almost sliding backward, since a cat this stubborn should look like it is losing a tug of war with gravity. No gold marker on hand works fine with a warm cream instead for the hallway glow.
Finish with ears flattened sideways for the full outrage.
Palette: Icy Blue,Warm Cream,Charcoal,Cool Grey
Give the back door cat a consequence: a cat buried in a snowdrift with only its tail sticking up. Draw the snowdrift first as one large soft mound filling the lower half of the page, then add just the tail poking out the top, curled into a question mark of alarm.
Keep the drift’s edge loose and bumpy rather than a smooth curve, since real snow piles unevenly, and leave small gaps of white paper showing through the blue shading for sparkle. A dry brush stroke, marker nearly out of ink dragged lightly across the surface, gives the snow a rough textured edge without extra linework.
This idea goes wrong fast if the tail looks too calm, so draw it stiff and slightly puffed rather than relaxed, almost vibrating with surprise. If you want more story in less space, the quick ten minute version is just the drift and tail; the fuller version adds one visible paw also poking through the snow nearby.
One small cherry red detail, a dropped mitten half buried beside the drift, finishes the scene.
Palette: Icy Blue,Soft Grey,Titanium White,Cherry Red
Dress the next cat for the occasion: a cat wearing a knitted sweater with a deeply offended face. Draw the sweater first as a simple tube shape covering the body and front legs, with a few short horizontal lines suggesting rib knit at the collar and hem.
Keep the cat’s head and ears free of the sweater entirely, since the contrast between the restrained body and the fully expressive, furious face is the whole joke. Color the sweater in a flat warm color, maybe cherry red or ginger, with slightly lighter marker strokes layered on top for a soft knit texture, then keep the fur its natural grey.
The sweater often looks like a blanket thrown over the cat rather than worn clothing, so define the neckline clearly and let two front legs poke through small sleeve openings. If stripes feel hard to keep even, a plain solid color sweater reads just as funny and saves time.
Finish with narrowed eyes and flattened ears for maximum offense.
Palette: Cherry Red,Cool Grey,Charcoal,Soft Cream
Follow the warmth-seeking theme into the bathroom with a cat sitting in the sink because the pipes run warm. Draw the sink basin first as a simple oval with a faucet arcing over the top, then fold the cat’s body down into the bowl shape, legs tucked under, tail hanging over the rim.
Keep the basin’s curve consistent all the way around the cat so the body reads as resting inside it rather than floating on top, a common mistake when the oval and the cat are drawn as two separate shapes. Color the porcelain in cool white and pale grey with a thin blue shadow line under the rim, then warm up the cat’s fur tones so it visually belongs in a cozy spot.
If the faucet looks stiff, curve it in one smooth sweeping line rather than several short ones, which makes the whole fixture feel less mechanical. No pale grey marker on hand works fine with a light blue instead for the porcelain shadow.
One tiny water droplet on the faucet tip adds believability with almost no extra effort.
Palette: Cool White,Pale Grey,Icy Blue,Ginger Orange
Take the action outside again with a cat sliding across a frozen puddle, legs splayed in every direction. Draw the puddle first as a flat oval of icy blue with a few straight highlight streaks across it to suggest a slick, reflective surface.
Build the cat’s body low and stretched, all four legs pointing outward like a starfish rather than tucked underneath, which is the single pose choice that makes this read as sliding rather than sitting. Keep the eye level low and close to the ice so the viewer feels like they are skidding along with the cat.
Color the puddle’s reflection in a slightly darker blue than the sky tone around it, and leave a jagged white crack line or two across the surface for extra chaos. If the splayed legs look boneless, add one small bend at each knee joint, which keeps the pose readable as a cat rather than a thrown toy.
A short swish of white gel pen along the ice finishes the slick, slippery feel.

Palette: Icy Blue,Deep Blue,Charcoal,Titanium White
Keep the energy high with a cat jumping straight up as a clump of snow falls off the roof. Draw the snow clump first as a loose rounded shape falling mid air just above and behind the cat, then build the cat’s body in a stiff vertical leap, all four legs straight down, back arched, tail puffed into a full bottle brush.
This is a good scene to practice proportion comparison: the leap height should put the cat’s head roughly two cat-heights off the ground, which reads as a real startled jump rather than a small hop. Color the falling snow clump in cool white with a soft grey shadow underneath it to show it has weight and is actually falling.
If the jump looks static, angle the ears flat back and the mouth open in a small yowl shape, since the face sells the shock as much as the pose does. No grey marker handy works fine with a light blue shadow instead under the snow clump.
Finish with a scatter of small white dots trailing from the clump for extra motion.
Palette: Titanium White,Cool Grey,Charcoal,Icy Blue
Bring things back down to a smaller, quieter joke: a cat squeezed inside a winter boot left by the door. Draw the boot first as a simple tall shape with a fold at the top, then pack the cat’s body down inside it, only the head and one paw visible over the rim.
Keep the boot’s proportions a little too small for comfort, the cat’s head should nearly fill the opening, which is what makes the squeeze funny rather than just a cat sitting near a boot. Color the boot leather in warm brown or charcoal with a lighter fold line at the top, then let the cat’s face peek out with wide content eyes, perfectly pleased with the tight fit.
If the scene reads as the cat simply standing behind the boot, overlap the lines clearly, drawing the boot’s front rim crossing in front of the cat’s chest. No brown marker on hand works fine with a deep grey boot instead.
One small detail, a loose lace trailing on the floor, adds a sense of a busy house nearby.
Palette: Warm Brown,Charcoal,Ginger Orange,Cool Grey
Return to the window for a quieter, puzzled moment: a cat licking a frosty window and not quite understanding the result. Draw the window pane first with a light fineliner frost pattern, a few branching crystal lines scratched across the glass, then place the cat close up with tongue out mid lick.
Keep the frost pattern loose and irregular rather than symmetrical, since real frost spreads unevenly, and leave the area right under the cat’s tongue slightly smudged where the lick has melted a small clear patch. Color the glass in pale icy blue with the frost lines left white, then give the cat a slightly cross-eyed, confused expression to match the odd cold taste.
If the frost looks too busy, simplify it to just three or four branching lines in the corners and keep the center clear. A light dry brush pass of white marker over the frost edges softens them nicely if you have one to spare.
Finish with one small clear melted patch right where the tongue touches the glass.
Palette: Icy Blue,Titanium White,Pink,Charcoal
Move to the kitchen table for a cat trying to catch the steam rising from a mug of tea. Draw the mug first as a simple rounded shape with a handle, then build two or three soft curling steam lines rising from the top, drawn loosely so they look like wisps rather than solid shapes.
Place the cat’s paw reaching up mid swipe toward the steam, body slightly crouched and leaning forward, head tilted up to track something that obviously is not really there. Color the mug in warm cherry red or deep orange, keep the steam lines pale grey or left as plain white paper, and let the cat’s fur sit in a neutral grey so nothing competes with the warm mug color.
If the steam reads as smoke rather than warmth, curve each wisp gently rather than drawing it straight, and keep the lines thin. No cherry red marker handy works fine with a deep rose instead for the mug.
One tip for later once this works: try the same pose with a cat batting at bubbles from a bath instead.
Palette: Cherry Red,Cool Grey,Titanium White,Charcoal
For something with a bit more personality, try a cat in a pom-pom hat plotting its revenge. Draw the hat first as a simple knit dome sitting low over the ears, with a round pom pom on top drawn as a scribbled fuzzy circle rather than a smooth ball.
Build the face below it with narrowed eyes and a slight smirk, chin tucked low, which is the combination that reads as plotting rather than just wearing a hat. Color the hat in a bold color like cherry red or icy blue with a contrasting pom pom, then keep the eyes sharp and dark so they carry the whole expression.
If the hat looks like it is floating above the head, extend it down to cover the tops of the ears completely, with just the ear tips poking through two small slits. If red and blue together feel busy, one solid hat color with a white pom pom keeps it simple.
Finish with one eyebrow line raised slightly higher than the other for extra scheming.
Palette: Cherry Red,Icy Blue,Titanium White,Charcoal
Look at reference photos of cats mid stare for the narrowed eye shape, it is a small detail that makes the plotting expression read instantly.
Bring the warmth-seeking cats back with one loafing on a hot water bottle, eyes half shut in total smugness. Draw the hot water bottle first as a simple flattened oval shape with a small cap detail at one end, then settle the cat’s body down over it in a classic loaf pose, paws tucked completely out of sight.
Keep the bottle peeking out slightly from under the cat’s belly on both sides so its shape still reads clearly, since a cat drawn fully covering it loses the joke entirely. Color the bottle in warm cherry red or orange rubber tones, then let the cat’s fur settle into a relaxed, slightly lighter shade to show the heat radiating upward.
If the loaf shape looks lumpy, keep the outline one smooth continuous curve from nose to tail rather than several separate bumps. No red marker on hand works fine with a warm orange bottle instead.
Finish with eyes drawn as two lazy half moons for the smug, melted look.
Palette: Cherry Red,Ginger Orange,Cool Grey,Charcoal
Add some chaos with a cat tangled in a long scarf, rolling on the floor to escape it. Draw the scarf first as a long wavy ribbon shape looping across the page, then weave the cat’s body through and around it, one leg caught, the scarf wrapped over the back and under the chin.
Work the cat’s pose on its side, mid roll, with legs kicked out at odd angles, since a sitting cat cannot sell the sense of a struggle the way a tumbling one can. Color the scarf in bold stripes, cherry red and icy blue work well together, and keep the fur a plain neutral tone so the busy scarf pattern stands out clearly.
If the tangle looks confusing, simplify to just two visible loops of scarf rather than drawing every twist, which keeps the shapes readable even with the cat rolling through them. No striped marker set on hand works fine with one solid scarf color instead.
Finish with a few loose scarf fringe lines flying outward for extra motion.
Palette: Cherry Red,Icy Blue,Cool Grey,Charcoal
Pair the cross-eyed snowflake idea from earlier with its noisier cousin: a cat sneezing at a snowflake that just landed on it. Draw the head tilted sharply back and the mouth open wide in a small sneeze shape, eyes squeezed shut, whiskers pushed forward and slightly bent.
Keep the snowflake tiny and place it right where the sneeze originates, usually the nose or just above it, so the cause and effect reads instantly even without any extra arrows or motion lines. Color the face in its usual tones, then add two or three short white burst lines around the nose to suggest the sudden sneeze itself.
If the sneeze looks like a yawn, narrow the eyes to fully closed rather than half open, and angle the ears back flat rather than forward, which is the detail that separates a sneeze from a simple wide mouth. No white gel pen on hand works fine with light pencil scribble marks for the burst lines instead.
Finish with one single snowflake still drifting nearby for the next sneeze.
Palette: Ginger Orange,Titanium White,Charcoal,Icy Blue
For pure cat mischief, draw a cat shoving a mitten off the table while staring directly at the viewer. Build the table edge as a simple horizontal line first, then place the mitten right at the edge, tipping, with the cat’s paw extended flat against it mid push.
Keep the cat’s head turned fully toward the viewer rather than watching the mitten fall, since that direct stare is what turns a simple accident into an obvious, deliberate act. Color the mitten in cherry red with a bit of knit texture at the cuff, and keep the cat’s expression completely flat and unbothered, almost daring you to say something.
If the mitten looks like it is just resting rather than falling, tilt it at a clear diagonal angle with one corner already past the table edge. No red marker handy works fine with a deep blue mitten instead.
One tip for next time: try the same stand-off pose with a cat knocking a pen off a desk instead.
Palette: Cherry Red,Cool Grey,Charcoal,Titanium White
Slow things down with a quieter contrast: a cat lying in the one sunbeam on the floor while snow falls outside the window behind it. Draw the window first, snow visible through the glass in cool blue tones, then angle a wide diagonal beam of light across the floor toward the cat, drawn as a simple soft edged triangle of warm color.
Stretch the cat out fully inside the beam, completely relaxed, eyes shut, which contrasts nicely against every other tense or startled cat in this list. Color the beam in warm golden yellow with soft edges that blend gently into the floor color, then keep the window and snow behind it in cool blue so the temperature difference reads clearly across the page.
If the sunbeam looks too solid, leave the edges uneven and slightly streaky rather than a clean geometric shape, since real light rarely has hard edges. No golden yellow on hand works fine with a pale warm orange instead.
Finish with one half open eye to suggest the cat knows exactly how lucky it is.
Palette: Golden Yellow,Icy Blue,Ginger Orange,Charcoal
Bring back some drama with a cat yelling at a snowman through the window. Draw the snowman outside first as three simple stacked circles with basic stick arms and a small triangle nose, kept deliberately plain since the joke is the cat’s reaction, not the snowman’s detail.
Build the cat inside, up on its back legs against the glass, front paws raised, mouth open wide in a full yowl, as if genuinely offended by the intruder standing in the yard. Color the snowman in cool white and grey against a soft blue sky, then let the cat’s warm fur tone and open pink mouth pull focus back indoors where the real action is.
If the cat’s standing pose looks stiff, bend the back slightly and splay the front paws unevenly against the glass, which reads as more frantic than two paws held perfectly symmetrical. No grey marker on hand works fine with a pale blue shadow on the snowman instead.
Finish with a small scarf or button detail on the snowman, just enough to make it a character worth yelling at.
Palette: Titanium White,Icy Blue,Ginger Orange,Pink
Keep the cozy chaos going with a cat squeezed into a tiny box set beside the fireplace, clearly too small for the job but sitting in it anyway. Draw the box first as a simple open topped cube shape, then pack the cat’s body down inside it with legs folded tight and fur spilling noticeably over every edge.
Place the fireplace behind as a simple glowing rectangle with a few flame shapes inside, warm orange and red light reflecting faintly on the side of the box nearest the fire. Color the box in plain cardboard brown, then let the firelight warm one edge of it while the far side stays in cooler shadow, which adds depth with very little extra drawing.
If the squeeze looks uncomfortable rather than content, keep the eyes relaxed and half shut, since the joke depends on the cat looking perfectly happy despite being folded like origami. No red or orange marker on hand works fine with a single warm yellow glow instead.
One cherry red detail, a bow or ribbon still stuck to the box, finishes the holiday feel.
Palette: Cardboard Brown,Ginger Orange,Cherry Red,Charcoal
Switch to pure visual comedy with a cat whose fur sticks out everywhere thanks to static electricity. Draw the body first in its normal relaxed shape, then build the fur outline as dozens of short spiky lines radiating outward in every direction, especially thick around the tail and cheeks.
Keep the face calm and slightly startled rather than fully panicked, since the contrast between a composed expression and completely chaotic fur is what makes this funny. Color the body in its usual tone, then leave the spiky fur tips slightly lighter or uncolored so each individual spike stays visible rather than blending into one fuzzy mass.
If the fur looks like a solid halo rather than individual strands, vary the spike lengths noticeably, some short and some long, and leave small gaps of bare paper between clusters. No light grey marker on hand works fine leaving those tips as plain white paper instead.
Finish with one small spark or zigzag line near an ear for extra static effect.
Palette: Cool Grey,Titanium White,Charcoal,Icy Blue
For a pose with real comic motion, draw a cat walking stiff-legged in tiny dog booties clearly not made for a cat. Build each leg first as a straight, slightly too-rigid line rather than the usual soft bend, since stiff unnatural joints are what sell the awkward new footwear.
Draw the booties themselves as simple rounded shapes wrapping each paw, a bit bulky and mismatched in size to the leg above them, with a small strap or velcro line at the top of each one. Color the booties in a bold color like cherry red so they stand out clearly against the body, then keep the cat’s face deeply unimpressed, flat mouth, narrowed eyes, ears back.
If the walk looks natural rather than awkward, lift one front paw unnaturally high, almost like a marching step, which instantly reads as a cat unused to wearing shoes. No red marker on hand works fine with a bright yellow bootie color instead.
Finish with one bootie slightly twisted sideways, as if already about to fall off.
Palette: Cherry Red,Cool Grey,Charcoal,Titanium White
Return to the window one more time for a cat watching snow fall with its tail puffed to twice its normal size. Draw the cat sitting in profile this time rather than facing forward, body calm and still, then build the tail separately as a dramatically oversized, fully fluffed shape curving up behind the back.
Compare the tail’s width directly against the body as you draw: it should look roughly as wide as the cat’s whole torso, which is the exaggeration that makes the puff read as funny rather than just fluffy. Color the body in its normal tone, then layer the tail in lighter and darker strokes of the same color to suggest the extra volume of fluffed fur.
If the tail looks stiff, add two or three soft curved break lines within the outline rather than one single smooth edge, which suggests separate puffed sections rather than one solid balloon shape. No second marker shade handy works fine leaving the tail as one flat color, just drawn extra large.
Finish with wide alert eyes to match the startled posture.
Palette: Cool Grey,Charcoal,Icy Blue,Titanium White
For a scene with two characters, draw a cat crammed into the dog’s fleece bed while the actual dog sits outside it, patiently confused. Build the bed first as a simple round cushion shape with a slightly raised rim, then pack the cat down inside it, taking up the entire space, paws and tail spilling over the edge.
Place the dog sitting just beside the bed rather than inside it, a simple seated silhouette with a slightly tilted head, which tells the whole story of patient bewilderment without needing any extra text or expression detail. Color the bed in warm cream or soft brown fleece texture with short wavy marker strokes, then keep the cat smug and relaxed while the dog’s posture reads as merely puzzled.
If the size difference does not read clearly, draw the dog noticeably larger than the cat, since the joke depends on a bigger animal losing its bed to a smaller one. No cream marker handy works fine with a pale grey fleece bed instead.
Finish with one dog ear slightly drooped for extra sympathy.
Palette: Warm Cream,Cool Grey,Ginger Orange,Charcoal
For pure melodrama, draw a cat dramatically flopping on the floor directly in front of the cold back door, as if the mere idea of going outside is too much to bear. Build the door first as a simple vertical rectangle, then let the cat’s body sprawl across the floor in front of it in a full boneless flop, legs splayed in opposite directions, head turned sideways against the floor.
Keep the limbs loose and unevenly spaced rather than symmetrical, since a careful, tidy flop reads as a pose rather than genuine collapse. Color the floor in cool neutral tones and the door frame in a slightly colder blue-grey to hint at the chill coming through, then let the cat’s fur stay warm in contrast, emphasizing how comfortable the indoors is by comparison.
If the flop looks too much like simple sleeping, add one visible open eye glaring sideways at the door, which keeps the drama alive even in a fully relaxed pose. No blue-grey marker on hand works fine with plain grey for the door instead.
Finish with a small paw dramatically flung up near the face.
Palette: Cool Blue Grey,Ginger Orange,Charcoal,Titanium White
Close the list with a cat whose face is stuck inside a fuzzy earmuff, caught mid struggle. Draw the earmuff band first as a simple curved arc over the head, then build the two fuzzy ear cups slightly too large, one slipped down over an eye so the cat’s expression peeks out only partly.
Keep one visible eye wide and startled while the covered side disappears completely into the fuzzy texture, which gives the drawing a lopsided, slapstick feel without needing a complicated pose underneath. Color the earmuffs in a soft pastel tone with short scribbled marker strokes for texture, then keep the exposed half of the face in normal fur color so the two textures read clearly as different materials.
If the earmuff looks too neat, let a few texture strokes extend slightly past the outline edge, since real fuzzy fabric rarely stays perfectly contained. No pastel marker on hand works fine with a plain pale grey earmuff instead.
One paw raised mid tug at the band finishes the struggle nicely.
Palette: Pastel Pink,Cool Grey,Ginger Orange,Charcoal
What to Do Next
Pick whichever winter disaster sounds most like your own cat today, grab a sheet of smooth marker paper, and start with the fineliner outline before any color goes down. One finished page is plenty for today, and the rest of this list will still be here next time you want another excuse to draw a cat behaving badly.
Frequently Asked Questions
What markers work best for a silly cat drawing like these?
Alcohol-based markers work best, since they blend smoothly without streaks. Layer light base colors first, then add shading while the ink is still fresh for the cleanest blends on fur and backgrounds.
Do I need to draw realistic cat anatomy for these to be funny?
No, exaggeration matters more than accuracy here. Stretching a paw, puffing a tail, or stiffening a leg beyond what a real cat would do is exactly what sells the joke in a silly cat drawing.
How do I keep the fineliner outline from looking messy under marker?
Let the fineliner dry fully before coloring, and use a marker nib slightly smaller than the shape you are filling. Going right up to the outline from the inside out avoids smudging the ink line.
What if I only have a few marker colors instead of a full set?
A small set still works well, since most of these ideas rely on just grey, orange, blue and one red accent. Swap any missing color for the closest shade you own rather than skipping the contrast entirely.
How long does one of these cat drawings usually take?
Most of these take between fifteen and forty minutes depending on detail level. Simpler poses like the lifted paw or the sunbeam cat finish fast, while scenes with two characters or more background take a bit longer.
