This diorama box set turns 22 everyday containers into tiny stages, each one opened at the front so you can peek straight inside. A shoe box becomes a ballroom, a bread box turns into a bakery, an egg box hides a whole henhouse, and the rest of the set keeps finding new corners of a cosy, busy little world. Every sheet makes one card front or one journal page, ready to lift out and set wherever you like.
Print the pages on matte cardstock at actual size, then cut around each box shape leaving a thin white edge so the scene reads clearly against kraft or coloured card. Work through them in any order: some suit a quick five minute card, others reward a slower afternoon with foam dots and fine scissors. Mix and match the boxes across a set of cards for the same person, or let one carry a whole journal spread on its own.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Rooms Of Romance
Lifting the lid like a stage curtain, this one makes a lovely anniversary card: a young couple waltz under paper lanterns while a garden fountain plays behind them through the back opening.
Raise the dancing couple on foam dots over the painted floor for a little lift, and mat the whole box shape on a strip of cream lace before gluing it to a card front.
Opening onto a cosy afternoon, an elderly woman serves bonbons to two friends in armchairs, with a snowy street glimpsed through the back window.
Dusted with flour from front to back, a bread box opens into a tiny bakery where a young woman shapes rolls on a floured board while a windmill turns behind her.
This pairs sweetly with the chocolate box parlor for a matching pair of cards, one warm and bready, one rich and sugared, perfect for sending together to someone who loves to bake.
Settling down for the night, an elderly woman tucks her cat into a basket inside this trinket box bedroom, a moonlit garden glowing through the back window.
Steam rises gently as a young woman pours tea for travelers inside this tea chest cafe, mountains and terraced tea fields climbing away behind her.
Print two copies and cut the pouring figure and teapot from one to raise on foam dots over the other, giving the steam and the teapot a little lift off the page.
Collecting eggs among her hens, an elderly woman fills her apron pocket inside this egg box henhouse, a busy farmyard spreading out behind her.
Arranging books on small desks, a young teacher sets up her pencil box schoolroom for the day, a playground full of trees waiting behind her.
Reading old love letters by lamplight, an elderly woman settles into this keepsake box attic while rooftops stretch away behind her, worth anchoring a journal spread about family history or old letters kept for years.
Painting a rocking horse by hand, a young woman works inside this toy box workshop while snow settles over the yard behind her.
Selling strawberries by the basketful, an elderly couple run this berry box farm stand together, open fields stretching out behind them. This one suits a card base in warm red cardstock with a cream mat, the little stand sitting raised on foam dots above the paper fields.

Trimming a small tree with popcorn garlands, a young woman decorates this gift box Christmas room while snow falls gently behind her. Pair it with the candy box sweet shop for a matching set of Christmas cards sent to grandchildren, one sweet and one sparkling.
Pulling taffy with practiced hands, an elderly woman works behind the counter of this candy box sweet shop while a fairground glows behind her.
Hanging linens on a line, a young woman works inside this handkerchief box laundry room while a breezy meadow stretches behind her.

What to Do Next
Pick two or three boxes that suit the person you are sending to, print them at actual size on matte cardstock, and start cutting: the shoe box ballroom and jewelry box opera box make a particularly pretty pair for an anniversary card.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a diorama box set like this?
Matte cardstock works best for this set, since it holds fine linework crisply and resists glare under craft lights. Avoid glossy photo paper, which can make small details hard to see once the scene is cut out and glued down.
What printer settings should I use?
Print at actual size, never scaled to fit the page, so every box lines up with its lid and stage opening correctly. Choose the best or photo quality setting on your printer to keep the thin outlines sharp.
How do I make these dioramas look three dimensional on a card?
Print two copies of the sheet, then cut the inner scene from one copy and raise it on foam adhesive dots over the matching background. This lifts the figures and props slightly off the page for real depth.
What card size suits these diorama boxes best?
Most of these boxes fit comfortably on an A2 or 5×7 inch card base with room for a mat underneath. Trim the box shape with a thin white edge first, then centre it before gluing.
Can I use these in a junk journal instead of a card?
Yes, several of these scenes work well as a standalone journal page or spread opener, especially the keepsake box attic and the puzzle box study. Glue the box flat or raise it on foam dots for a little lift between other pages.
