Table of Contents
A vintage fashion junk journal turns an afternoon of printing into a little shop window of its own: feathered hats on stands, dresses waiting on forms, gloves folded beside a corsage. This kit gives you 22 scene pages that walk through hat shops, wardrobes, vanity tables and fitting rooms, 4 seamless background papers for linings and covers, and 5 lined writing pages for the words you want to keep alongside the pictures.
Print the whole set on matte paper heavy enough to take glue without curling, somewhere around 24 to 32 lb, and let your printer use its best photo or presentation setting so the colours stay clean. Trim close to the edge on any page where the picture fills the entire sheet, and you’re ready to cut, fold and glue the journal together.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Hat Shop Pages
Feathered hats on stands behind ribboned glass make a soft opening page for a vintage fashion journal, each hat trimmed a little differently.
Give a beginner one neat hat shape to colour in and leave the rest of the window plain. If you want more to do, add tiny price tags or a shop name in old script along the glass, then tuck a scrap of ribbon under the page edge once it’s glued in.
Pair this dress form page with the Houndstooth With Tiny Roses background from this set: use the background as a facing page lining, so the swing dress sits opposite a quieter pattern rather than another busy scene.
Lipstick, a powder puff, a string of pearls and a hand mirror sit together on a vanity table, ready for a quiet page about getting dressed.
The usual mistake here is cramming every small object into one tight cluster, which flattens the page. Leave a little breathing room between the mirror and the pearls, and let the painted wallpaper or curtain behind them carry some of the colour instead.
Shoe And Closet Pages
Write a short shoe story on this one: where you wore them, who admired them, or the shop where you bought them. A single line under the tissue paper is plenty if you are short on time.
A pair of gloves rests beside a clutch purse and a corsage on a velvet chair, dressed for an evening out that never quite starts.
Tea-stain just the bottom edge of this page before gluing it in, so the velvet chair looks faded at the hem the way old fabric does. Tear the top edge instead of cutting it for a softer finish against the next page.
This page suits a reader who loves a full closet more than a single outfit, so it works well as a gift page for a friend who sews or collects dresses, with a hatbox and fur stole tucked in beside the rail.
Flapper And Fitting Room Pages
A cloche hat sits above a beaded flapper dress and a long strand of pearls arranged on a mannequin, dressed for a party decades gone.
A bolt of floral fabric unrolls beside a pair of shears and scattered pins, with a half-dressed form waiting its turn nearby.
Glue this one in as a fold-out: score the page down the middle and let the fabric bolt spill onto the facing page when opened, so the pins and shears stay on the side that’s always visible.
Place this fitting room opposite the Tissue-Wrapped Dress Box page later in this set: the gowns behind the velvet curtain read as the finished version of the dress still waiting in its box.
A pillbox hat with a short veil sits on a stand by a sunlit window, the kind of hat kept for one special afternoon a year.
Accessories And Dresser Pages
Handbags line a shelf with silk scarves folded beside them and a perfume bottle catching the light.
Add a small folded note tucked half inside one handbag, or a torn perfume label glued beside the bottle, for a page that feels like it was just set down between errands.
Keep this page for a dressing table list: what to pack for a trip, what needs mending, or a short note on a favourite old habit of getting ready.
Cat-eye sunglasses rest on a wide sun hat beside a sundress laid over a folding beach chair, ready for a warmer page in the journal.
A ballgown with full petticoats hangs beside an armoire, waiting for a page about one particular evening.
A beginner can keep the gown as the only detail and paint the armoire loosely behind it. For more practice, add the petticoat’s ruffled layers one by one and a small key hanging from the armoire lock.
Outerwear And Keepsake Pages
This page suits a reader who loves a rainy-day story, so give it to someone in a gift journal who always carries an umbrella, with the beret and trench coat hung together on one rack.
Brooches, clip-on earrings and bangles fill an open jewelry box, each piece small enough to feel like a kept secret rather than a display.
A Victorian walking dress with a bustle and matching parasol stands on a dress form, dressed for a stroll in an older century.
Fold the bottom third of this page forward before gluing, so the hem of the dress tucks under like a real skirt. It gives the page a little lift off the spread instead of lying completely flat.
What would you tuck inside this box along with the dress: a note, a pressed flower, a ticket stub from the evening it was worn?
Milliner And Garden Pages
Felt, feathers and silk flowers sit scattered across a milliner’s table beside wooden hat blocks, the hats still half finished.
Saddle shoes and bobby socks sit beside a poodle skirt laid across a bed, bringing a brighter decade into the journal.
Use five minutes and one colour of coloured pencil to add a single scalloped edge to the skirt’s hem if you’re pressed for time: the shoes and socks carry the page on their own without extra detail.
A tea gown and a wide-brim garden hat rest beside a rose arbor, dressed for an afternoon spent entirely outdoors.
A lace collar, a cameo pin and a pair of kid gloves rest together on a linen cloth, small enough treasures to close out the scene pages gently.
Background Papers
Small hats and gloves toss in a light repeat across this page, handy as a lining for a pocket, backing for a photo of a favourite outfit, or a soft journal cover.
Small dress forms and sewing scissors repeat across this sheet, well suited to a pocket lining behind a sewing memory, a cover wrap, or a backing for a fabric swatch you want to keep.
Polka dots and small bows alternate in a cheerful repeat, good under a photo of a swing dress, as a pocket lining, or wrapped around a gift journal cover.
Houndstooth checks sit beside tiny roses in a quieter repeat, useful as a backing for a formal photo, a journal cover, or a calm pocket lining between busier scene pages.
Lined Writing Pages
A small hatbox and ribbon sit in one corner of this page, leaving the ruled lines free for a gift list, a shopping note, or a short letter describing a favourite hat.
A slim dress form runs down one side of this page like a border, while the ruled lines stay open for a menu, a packing list, or notes on an outfit you want to remember.
A single strand of pearls frames the edge of this page, with the centre left for a letter to next year, a gift list, or a quick note about where a necklace came from.
A row of vintage high heels lines the bottom edge of this page, leaving the ruled space above open for a shopping list, a short diary entry, or a note to a friend who loves shoes.
A band of soft feathers runs across the top of this page like a milliner’s header, with the lines below free for a hat shopping list, a letter, or notes on a favourite outfit.
What to Do Next
Print the set, sort the scene pages into their little sections, and start gluing from the hat shop window through to the lined pages at the back. For more vintage material to mix in, the vintage junk journal and vintage junk journal ideas collections pair well with this one, and the Pride and Prejudice junk journal pages suit anyone who wants an older, more literary thread running through the same book.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a vintage fashion junk journal?
Matte paper around 24 to 32 lb works best, since it takes glue and pencil without curling or showing through. Cardstock suits the covers and background pages if you want a sturdier feel in hand.
What printer settings give the cleanest colours?
Choose your printer’s best photo or presentation quality setting, since draft mode washes out the soft pastel tones. Matching the paper type in your printer driver to matte or presentation paper also keeps the ink from smudging.
What size should I print these pages?
Standard US letter or A4 both work well and fit most printable journal covers without extra trimming. Shrink pages slightly if you plan to fold them into a smaller handmade journal.
What do I use to colour or finish the pages?
Fine tip pens work well for adding your own notes once the pages are glued in, since the printed artwork already carries full colour. Coloured pencils suit small extra touches like a hem line or a ribbon shadow.
How do I glue these pages into a journal without wrinkling them?
A thin, even layer of acid-free glue stick applied right to the edges prevents wrinkling, since wet glue soaks and buckles thinner paper. Press each page flat under a heavy book for a few minutes after gluing.
