Table of Contents
A victorian junk journal lets you build a whole quiet world on paper: parlors with ferns in the corner, ladies under lace parasols, calling cards left on a silver tray. This kit gives you 23 scene pages to glue in as finished spreads, 5 seamless background papers for covers and pockets, and 5 lined pages for your own words, all drawn in one soft palette so the set reads as a single journal.
Print on a heavyweight matte paper, around 90 to 120gsm, so the colour stays rich and ink does not show through the back. Set your printer to its best or photo quality setting and let each sheet dry a moment before you trim it down to your journal’s page size.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Parlor Life
Settle this one into the front of your journal as the room your lady returns to between outings, a parlor with a piano and a potted fern by the window.
Pair this page with the striped wallpaper with roses background later in the set, using a strip of it as a mat behind the garden scene or as a pocket tucked beside her skirt.
The parasol’s lace edge gives you a natural spot to tuck a pressed flower or a scrap of real lace along the journal’s gutter.
Glue a small paper teacup cutout, a folded napkin scrap or a tiny printed menu card right onto the tiered stand for a page that feels set for company.
The usual mistake here is crowding the desk with too many objects so nothing reads clearly: keep the calling cards, seal and inkwell as the stars and let the rest stay soft and secondary.
If you enjoy correspondence themes, the vintage junk journal set has more letters and envelopes worth pairing with this page.
Fit this one for a reader who loves costume history in a gift journal, since it rewards someone who notices the fabric and trim as much as the shape of the dress.
Try tea-staining just the bottom edge of this sheet before you glue it in, so the greenery looks a little sun-faded where the conservatory floor would catch the light.
The curved glass roof gives plenty of room for a warm wash behind the palms and orchids, so the whole page feels humid and glowing rather than empty.
Write a single line of a compliment or a dance card note along the fan’s ribs, then glue a small tassel or ribbon scrap at the handle for a page that feels handled, not printed.
Place this page opposite the lady with the parasol so the two spreads read as one afternoon out, her walk on one side and her ride home on the other.
Glue in a small circle of real fabric or a paper doily scrap behind the cameo itself, since the velvet backdrop here is painted to look just soft enough to hold something real.
A five minute version of this page skips the full room and keeps only the cage, the bird and a single spray of flowers hung beside it, still filled edge to edge with a soft wash.
Ask in the margin what the entry’s writer remembers most about the seaside, a smell, a sound or a single moment, then leave room below the question for the answer.
Fashion And Finery
Three or four feathered hats sit behind glass here, each a little different, with ribbon, lace and a painted street reflection filling the rest of the page.
These pair naturally with a short list of errands written beside them, a trip to the milliner, the lending library or the dressmaker, so leave a little open wash near the boots for that note.
A hand mirror, a set of silver brushes and a small scent bottle sit across the vanity top, with a soft wallpapered wall and a draped cloth painted behind the whole arrangement.
Glue a tiny scorecard or a folded invitation onto this page, since a garden party always needs a guest list or a set of rules tucked somewhere near the mallets.
Fold a small corner of this page down to make a hidden pocket behind the terrarium glass, deep enough for a pressed leaf or a folded note about a favourite book.
Keepsakes And Letters
Tuck this one in for the reader who keeps every ribbon and ticket stub, a gift journal page built to hold a real curl of ribbon or hair tied with thread.
Spools of silk thread in soft colours fill a woven basket here, with a thimble, scissors and a scrap of embroidery resting against a plainly painted table behind them.
If you enjoy pressed botanicals as much as parlor scenes, the botanical sketchbook set pairs well with this page’s quiet mood.
Leave the album open to a blank leaf painted beside the pressed fern specimens, ready for you to glue in a real pressed leaf of your own.
Place this beside the hat shop window so the two pages read as one evening walk through town, lamp first and then the lit window further along the spread.
A glass atomizer, a round hatbox with ribbon and a folded glove sit together on this page, with a softly painted dressing table surface filling the space behind them.
What would she plant this season, and what did she grow last year: leave a line of space below the catalog for that answer to be written in.
Closing the scene pages on a small still life keeps things gentle: a single teacup painted with a violet, saucer, spoon and a folded napkin, softly washed table behind.
Background Papers
Use this dense floral as a cover wrap, a pocket lining behind the writing desk page, or trimmed into strips for a spine, all in the same dusty rose and sage palette as the rest of the kit.
Slip this damask behind the cameo brooch page as a mat, use it as a journal cover, or cut it into a pocket for storing loose calling cards and tickets.
This fine lace repeat works well as a layer under the vanity or sewing basket pages, as a journal cover, or cut into small circles to glue beneath teacups and lockets elsewhere in the set.
Scatter this soft pattern behind the fern album or teacup pages, use it to line an envelope pocket, or wrap a small gift tag in it for a garden party favour.
Match this striped paper with the parlor and garden party scenes for a cover that ties the whole journal together, or use it as a simple pocket lining behind any letter page.
Lined Writing Pages
Use these lines for a gift list before a garden party, a short letter to next year’s self, or a record of what grew best in the garden this season, framed by a fine lace border.
Keep this page for a quiet nature note, a pressed fern record, or a short menu for an afternoon tea, with soft fern sprays curling only in the corners.
Try this one for a letter to a friend, a description of a brooch or keepsake, or a short list of treasures kept in a jewelry box, framed by an oval cameo border.
Use the open lines here for a short poem, a flower pressing log, or a note tucked into a letter, with a single band of violets running down one side of the page.
Save this grander page for a closing entry, a letter never sent, or a list of everything the journal holds, bordered by an ornate gilt frame around faint ruled lines.
What to Do Next
Print the full set, trim each sheet to your journal’s size, and start with the parlor and garden pages before moving on to the backgrounds and lined pages for covers and entries.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a victorian junk journal kit?
A heavyweight matte paper around 90 to 120gsm works best, since it holds the soft washes without curling or letting ink show through the back of each sheet.
What printer settings give the richest colour?
Choose the best or photo quality setting on your printer and matte or heavyweight paper in the settings menu, which keeps the muted palette looking soft rather than washed out.
What size should I print these pages at?
Most home journals use A5 or a standard letter sheet trimmed down, so print at full page size first and then trim each sheet to match your journal’s covers.
What do I use to glue the pages into a journal?
An acid free glue stick works well for flat pages and keeps the paper from wrinkling, while a little craft glue suits pockets, folds and any layered elements.
Can I colour or add to these pages by hand?
Yes, a fine tip pen suits adding handwritten labels or dates, and a light coloured pencil can deepen a shadow or highlight without fighting the printed watercolour look.
