This set of paper dolls printable sheets brings together 23 lively women in their sixties and seventies, each caught mid-moment in the sewing room or at the quilting bee. Hug a stack of fat quarters, thread a needle at arm’s length, get tangled in yarn: every sheet is one full-length character ready to print, cut and glue onto cards, gift tags or junk journal pages for the sewists and quilters in your life.
Print on matte cardstock at actual size (100 percent, no “fit to page”), then cut around each doll leaving a thin white edge so the ink does not show at the cut line. From there she is ready to stand on a card, ride a craft stick, or anchor a whole journal spread.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
In the Sewing Room
Round and silver-haired in her cherry print dress, she hugs a stack of new fat quarters almost too big to carry, eyes wide with pure delight. She is the perfect card front for a friend who just came home from a fabric haul and cannot stop talking about it.
Mount her on a square card with a strip of real cherry-patterned paper behind her for a matching border, or tuck her into a junk journal pocket page about a fabric shop trip. Either way, that armful of fat quarters tells the whole story without a single word.
Tall with a white bun and cat-eye glasses pushed down her nose, she squints hard and holds a needle at full arm’s length, utterly grumpy about the whole business of threading it.
Curly gray hair bouncing, gingham apron askew, she is tangled from head to toe in pink yarn and laughing out loud at herself. Nothing fixes a dull grey afternoon like a card of someone having exactly this much fun with a mess.
She works well mounted on foam dots over a plain card so the loops of yarn lift slightly off the page, giving the tangle real depth. Pair her with the midnight sewing basket lady below for a two-doll spread about a sewing night that got delightfully out of hand.
Quilting Bee Mishaps
Short and round in her polka dot blouse, cheeks flushed pink with embarrassment, she holds up a quilt square sewn completely upside down for everyone to see.
Her lavender rinse perm sits just so as she shows off a finished star quilt like a trophy, chin high, utterly smug about it and entirely entitled to be. A card for the friend who finally finished the quilt she started three winters ago deserves exactly this much sass.
Write a line beside her about bragging rights well earned, or glue a tiny scrap of real fabric to the quilt in her arms for a touch of texture. She also anchors a junk journal page about a finished project nobody thought would ever get done.
Curlers still in and housecoat on, she gasps in amazement at her own seam ripper, holding it up and out like a magic wand that just undid a terrible mistake.
Proud and Sassy Sewists
Silver bob neat under a striped smock, she beams with pride while wearing a pincushion strapped to her wrist like the finest bracelet, full of pins she is clearly proud to have close at hand. She belongs on a thank-you card for anyone who sews gifts for everyone else and never gets thanked enough.
Glue a few tiny flat sequins near the pins for a sparkle of light catching the metal, then set her on a card base with a strip of striped paper to match her smock. She is also a sweet gift tag for a sewing kit or fabric bundle.
Plump in a rose print cardigan and fuzzy slippers, eyes heavy and yawning wide, she carries her sewing basket through the house well past midnight, unable to put the project down.
Her high white beehive does not move an inch as both hands fly to her cheeks in shock, staring down at one tiny leftover scrap of fabric as if it were a disaster. It is a funny line for a card about running short on supplies right before a deadline.
Write something about being one scrap away from catastrophe, or set her beside the fat quarter hugger for a before-and-after pair about how fast fabric disappears. A small cardstock speech bubble glued above her head adds the punchline without covering her face.
Fabric Shop Fun
Giggling in her ticking stripe apron, she wraps a pink tape measure around her own waist, clearly amused at whatever number she is finding.
Lace collar crisp against her calico dress, she frowns with full determination, pushing an enormous pair of fabric shears through cloth as if nothing could stop her. This is the doll for the friend who cuts fabric with the seriousness of a surgeon and will not be interrupted mid-project.
Mount her on a craft stick so she can be propped up behind a journal page like a little stage prop, shears forever mid-cut. She reads just as well flat, glued beside a strip of calico-print paper standing in for her fabric.
Short white crop and denim pinafore suit her dreamy smile as she cuddles a whole bolt of rosebud cotton fabric against her chest like a favorite pet.
Surprises and Small Disasters
Pearls catching the light over her quilted vest, she laughs in surprise at the sleepy cat sprawled across her half-finished quilt, clearly unbothered that the work has stopped for now. Anyone who makes cards for a cat-owning quilter will recognize this exact scene instantly.
Her funny junk journal energy pairs naturally with a page about pets who think handmade projects are furniture. Glue her onto a card with a tiny paw print stamped beside her for a last small joke.
Red-tinted perm bouncing, she winks broadly while cradling her sewing machine in both arms exactly like a newborn, clearly more devoted to the machine than to common sense.
Petite in a houndstooth skirt, eyes wide with panic, she chases a spool of thread rolling away across the floor as if her whole project depends on catching it. That small burst of chaos makes a perfect funny line for a birthday card about life never slowing down.
Cut her out with her front leg extended mid-stride so she looks genuinely in motion, then add a thin pencil line trailing behind the spool to show its path. She stands nicely on foam dots over a plain card for a bit of lift.
County Fair and Celebration
Round in her sunflower print dress, she dances on the spot, overjoyed, waving a blue prize ribbon won at the county fair quilt show high above her head.
Glasses swinging on their chain, she tilts her head in pure puzzlement, holding a quilt pattern sheet upside down without quite realizing it yet. It is a gentle, relatable moment that makes a sweet card for a friend deep into a tricky new pattern.
Write a line about reading the instructions twice and still being confused, set beside her on the card. She also works well glued into a journal spread about quilting bee afternoons full of good-natured confusion and laughter.
Chin up and proud in her mint shirtwaist dress, she wears a tape measure as a necklace and a thimble on every single finger, fully equipped for anything.
Finished and Fabulous
Fluffy white hair catching the light, she twirls to show off a patchwork jacket she made entirely herself, beaming with the particular pride of a finished wearable project. Any two-friends card set gains a lot from a doll who is this openly thrilled with her own handiwork.
Give her a card of her own captioned with a line about a project finally worth bragging about, or set her at the center of a journal page surrounded by scraps of the same patchwork patterns she is wearing. Either way, let that twirl take center stage.
Tall in a plaid skirt, bottom lip stuck out in a full pout, she holds a broken needle up to the light to inspect the damage with real grumpiness.
Strawberry print smock dotted with stray threads, she laughs so hard tears roll down, holding up a pillowcase she has accidentally sewn with three armholes instead of none. This is the five-minute card: print, cut around the simple silhouette, glue to a folded card with no extra trimming needed.
If there is more time, add a torn edge of strawberry-print paper behind her for a matching border, and write a line about a sewing project that went sideways in the funniest possible way. She is a strong match for the upside-down quilt square lady earlier in this set.
Gingham scarf tied over her hair, she grins a sneaky grin, hiding a brand new fabric shop bag behind her back as though no one will ever notice it.
Silver pixie cut neat under a buttoned cardigan, she holds up a plump tomato-shaped pincushion with pure delight, as pleased as if she had found an old friend. Closing out the set, she makes a cheerful last card for any sewing kit gift or a final page in a quilting-themed journal.
Cut her out and mount her on foam dots so the pincushion in her hands seems to float slightly forward off the page. A small strawberry-shaped emery glued beside her, if cut from the sheet’s leftover trim, finishes the little scene nicely.
What to Do Next
Pick the doll that matches a friend’s current sewing mood, print her on matte cardstock, and start cutting: the next card or journal page is five minutes away.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for these printable paper dolls?
Matte white cardstock around 65 to 110 lb works best for these paper dolls. It holds fine detail without the ink bleeding, and it is sturdy enough to stand on a card or craft stick without flopping.
What printer settings give the sharpest cut lines?
Print at actual size, not “fit to page”, with the printer set to its best or photo quality setting. This keeps every doll true to its intended size for cards and journal pages, and keeps the outlines crisp for cutting.
How do you cut out a doll with lots of small details?
Small detail scissors handle the curves of hair, hands and tiny accessories better than large craft scissors. Cut slowly around the outer edge first, leaving a thin white border, then come back for inner notches like fingers or pincushion pins.
How do you make a paper doll stand up or pop off the page?
Foam adhesive dots lift a doll slightly off a flat card for a bit of dimension, while a craft stick glued to the back lets her stand upright or be propped behind a journal page like a tiny stage prop.
Can these dolls be resized smaller for gift tags?
Yes, shrinking the printer’s scale setting to 50 or 60 percent turns any doll into a gift tag size. Punch a hole near the head and thread ribbon through for a quick tag that still shows every outfit detail clearly.
