Two old ladies friends funny enough to fill a whole journal: that is the idea behind this set of 31 pages, built for anyone making a friendship journal to keep or to give away. Twenty two scene pages follow the same pair of invented friends through a lifetime of shared mischief, from a convertible road trip to a kitchen dance with wooden spoons. Four seamless background pages back them up with repeating teacups, hearts and small cozy motifs, and five lined writing pages give the journal somewhere to actually write.
Print the whole kit on heavyweight paper, around 160 to 200 gsm, so the color sits well and the sheet does not curl once glued. Set the printer to its best or photo quality setting and let each page dry flat for a minute before handling. Trim to the journal’s size with a paper trimmer or sharp scissors, and the set is ready to cut, fold or glue straight into any journal base.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Out And About Together
Two friends in sunhats drive a pale pink convertible down a winding country road, scarves flying, with a picnic basket wedged in the back seat and a paper map flapping in the wind.
One towering ice cream cone sits between them on a pier bench, two spoons dug in from opposite sides, while gulls circle overhead and a striped ice cream cart waits a few steps away.
Leave the space beside the cone open for a gluded ticket stub or a boardwalk photo, so the page doubles as a small souvenir pocket of memory even without any actual pocket built in.
Pair this page with the teacup pattern background further on in the set, tucking a strip of it behind the umbrella’s edge so rain and teacups seem to belong to the same rainy afternoon.
Home And Kitchen Fun
The usual mistake here is gluing this page flat against a stiff journal spine, which flattens the swirl of the dancing skirts: leave a soft fold at the inner edge instead so the dance still has movement once the journal closes.
Write the recipient’s name and her friend’s name along the bottom of this page before gluing it in, turning the matching scarves into a small private joke between the two women this journal is actually for.
Flour dusts both of their aprons as one friend tilts a very lopsided cake out of its tin while the other holds a bowl of frosting, a cat watching from a nearby stool and a cooling rack waiting on the counter.
Tuck a handwritten recipe card, even a joke one for luck or forgiveness, into the corner of this page before it goes into the journal.
Both friends doze in matching armchairs by a crackling fireplace, knitting forgotten in their laps, a half finished jigsaw puzzle and two cooling teacups on the small table between them.
Garden And Porch Moments
This page suits the friend who always has dirt under her fingernails and three kinds of tomatoes ready before anyone else’s: give her this one in the gift journal and let her write the planting dates herself.
Two rocking chairs creak side by side on a porch, a pitcher of lemonade sweating on a small table between them, with a quilt draped over one chair arm and fireflies just starting to glow in the dusk.
What question could sit under this page: ask what the two friends are arguing about so happily, and let the journal’s writer invent the answer.
A paper bag of bread crumbs sits open between two friends on a pond bench, ducks paddling eagerly toward them, while a small rowboat drifts empty near the far shore.
Place this page across from the lined page meant for a summer bucket list, since two friends stretched out in loud floral swimsuits under striped beach umbrellas practically beg for a list of everything still worth trying.
Game Night Shenanigans
Cards fan out across a small table between two grinning friends, one with an extra ace clearly peeking from her sleeve, a bowl of peanuts and two mismatched teacups crowding the edges.
One friend leaps up waving her bingo card high while the other claps from her folding chair, scattered bingo chips and a half eaten plate of cookies on the table between them, string lights glowing overhead.
Five minute version of this page: cut it down to just the two faces and the raised card, and skip gluing in the full background if the journal page is small.
Both friends belt out a song into hairbrush microphones in a cozy living room, a television glowing with song lyrics behind them and a bowl of popcorn tipped over on the rug.
Catch this page’s wobble by tearing its bottom edge unevenly before gluing it in, a small rough detail that echoes the friends’ tipping tree pose better than a perfectly straight cut ever could.
Seasons Of Friendship
A checkered blanket holds two friends, a woven basket of sandwiches and a small jar of wildflowers under a tree dropping pink blossoms, with a ladybug crawling along the blanket’s edge.
Both friends kneel in the sand patting a cheerfully lopsided sandcastle into shape, buckets and a striped beach ball scattered nearby, gulls wheeling over gentle summer waves behind them.
One friend mid leap into a pile of raked leaves while the other watches with a rake in hand and a mug of cider nearby, works best paired with the small ticking stripe background from this set tucked behind as a facing page border.
Two friends in matching plaid coats pat a round snowman into shape, a carrot nose and a crooked scarf half tied, with their mittened hands pink from the cold and a snow covered fence behind them.
If this journal is a gift for someone who loves cozy winter pages, this scene pairs naturally with that same quiet season mood.
Celebrations Together
One friend leans in to blow out a cake absolutely crowded with candles while the other covers her ears and laughs, party hats askew and a stack of wrapped gifts just visible at the table’s edge.
What to tuck onto this page: a folded note each friend writes to herself at ninety, sealed and glued flat against the paper so it can be opened again on some future birthday.
Two friends clink teacups high in a toast, a small cake stand of pastries between them and a string of paper bunting looped overhead, their faces bright with the particular joy of a very small, very good celebration.
Background Papers
Place this scene beside a lined page meant for a guest list or a toast, since two friends crowned in flowers at a garden party practically invite a few written words about who else belongs at the table.
Small painted teacups and tiny hearts repeat edge to edge in dusty rose and cream, perfect behind a photo of the two friends, lining a cover, or filling the space around a glued in note.
A soft ticking stripe in muted sage and cream runs the full page, steady enough to sit quietly under a busier scene, line a cover, or back a page of handwriting without competing with it.
Loose buttons and curling bits of yarn scatter across the page in warm rose and sage, a natural fit under a knitting related photo, as a cover lining, or tucked behind a lined writing page for texture.
Lined Writing Pages
A faint trellis lattice climbs with tiny painted roses across the whole sheet, soft enough to sit behind a garden photo, line the inside of a cover, or back any page that needs a quieter garden feel.
A thin border of teacups and tiny hearts frames faint ruled lines down the page, ready for a letter to a best friend, a list of inside jokes, or a note about how the two of them first met.
A corner spray of wildflowers decorates faint ruled lines, good for a list of favorite memories together, a recipe the two friends always argue over, or a letter to next year’s version of their friendship.
A thin band of little convertibles and suitcases runs down one side of faint ruled lines, suited to a travel log, a packing list for the next trip, or notes on the best diner the two of them ever found.
A frame of tiny roses and leaves borders faint ruled lines, useful for a planting list, notes from an afternoon on the porch, or a gift list for the friend who always smells like fresh tomatoes.
What to Do Next
Print the full set, trim each page to size, and start gluing the scenes in order of the story the two friends are living out, saving the lined pages for the memories only the journal’s two readers will ever know.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for this kit?
Use a heavyweight matte paper, around 160 to 200 gsm, so the pastel washes print richly and the page does not curl once glued. Plain printer paper works in a pinch but feels thin once several pages are stacked and trimmed into a journal.
What printer settings give the best color?
Choose the printer’s best or photo quality setting and select the matte or heavyweight paper type if that option exists. This slows the print slightly but keeps the soft watercolor washes from looking streaky or pale.
What size should I print these pages at?
Standard letter or A4 suits most journals and trims down easily to smaller sizes. Print a test page first and measure against the journal’s actual cover before running the full set of 31.
Do I need to color or finish these pages myself?
No, every page prints in full color and is finished edge to edge, so there is nothing left to paint. A fine tip pen is handy only if adding a date or a short note directly onto a scene.
What is the best way to attach these pages into a journal?
A glue stick works cleanly on most paper weights and avoids the wrinkling that liquid glue can cause. Trim each page to size first, then press it firmly into place and let it sit flat for a few minutes to dry.
