A quilting junk journal is the kind of kit that gathers up every cozy corner of the craft: porches draped in patchwork, baskets spilling thread, sunny windows where a quilt frame waits half finished. This set has 22 full scene pages, 4 seamless background papers and 5 lined writing pages, so you have everything from a county fair quilt display to a hexagon paper piecing tray, plus patterns and lined sheets to tie the whole journal together.
Print on matte cardstock heavy enough to glue without buckling, run your printer on its best photo or highest quality setting, and trim each sheet to your journal’s size before you start arranging spreads. Everything below is ready to cut, fold and stitch into pages exactly as shown.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Porch And Garden Pages
Pair this one with the sawtooth star pattern page behind it: tuck a thin strip of the pattern paper along the inside spine so a sliver of stitched colour peeks past the porch railing scene when the journal lies open.
That small echo of pattern ties the porch straight back to the patchwork itself, and it costs nothing more than a few extra minutes of cutting.
Thread spools, a pincushion, small scissors and loose fabric scraps spill from an open wicker basket resting on a sunlit table near the porch door.
Shop And Market Pages
Leave the pane of the shop window blank enough to slip in a tiny price tag, a fabric swatch, or a real scrap of calico cut to the size of a stamp.
A square of washi tape across one corner works just as well if you would rather not glue down loose fabric, and it still reads as a shop ticket when the page is closed.
A quilting frame holds a half-finished star quilt near a tall sunlit window, with a dish of thimbles, folded fabric and a potted fern close by.
This page works well as the quiet breather between two busier ones: the meadow and sky give the eye somewhere to rest, so place it right after the shop window page where detail runs high.
If you want it even calmer, leave the daisies as the only extra colour and let the quilts themselves carry the page.
Sewing Room Pages
An antique treadle sewing machine holds a calico quilt top mid-seam, with a glass jar of buttons and a spool of thread on the cabinet beside it.
The usual mistake with a stacked-quilts page is piling on too many patterns at once, which flattens the whole sheet into noise instead of texture.
Keep two or three quilts in the stack with clearly different motifs, let the lamp and tulips carry the colour instead, and the page will read as calm rather than busy.
A cutting mat lies ready with a rotary cutter, a clear ruler, a stack of triangle patches and a steaming mug of tea at the corner.
Give a confident colourer the run of the log cabin pattern itself, since the repeating strips give plenty of room to play with the palette block by block.
A beginner can keep the quilt simple and let the kitten, the yarn ball and the basket carry most of the charm instead, which still makes a full and satisfying page.
Gatherings And Community Pages
Chairs circle a shared quilt frame at the center of this page, with teacups, a plate of cookies and quilting notions set within easy reach.
Try the five minute version of this one: sketch just the quilt block square on the barn wall and the red wheelbarrow in front of it, and skip the hay bales entirely.
It still reads instantly as a barn quilt scene, and you can always come back and add more later if the page calls for it.
A tomato pincushion sits with a tin of pins, a cloth measuring tape and a length of lace across a gingham cloth, as if left mid-project on a table.
What to tuck here: a small cut-to-size envelope of real paper hexagon templates, or a short note naming the fabric scraps you are saving for your next project.
Either one turns the tray from decoration into a working page you can return to as the quilt grows.
Bedroom And Garden Pages
A wedding ring quilt covers the bed, flanked by embroidered pillows and a small posy of roses set on the nightstand beside it.
This spread pairs naturally with the clothesline page earlier in the set: place them facing each other so the meadow grass runs visually from one sheet into the next.
A jar of lemonade and a small bowl of berries on the quilt give it enough detail to stand alone too, if you would rather use it by itself.
Fabric scraps sorted by colour fill glass jars lined along a sewing room shelf, with a small iron and a potted fern set at one end.
Cozy Corners Pages
Ask yourself what this corner of the house means before you colour it in: is it the quiet end of a long day, or the start of a new project pulled down from the ladder.
Write that single line at the bottom of the page and let the armchair and yarn basket do the rest of the talking.
Quilts hang along wooden display rails strung with bunting at a county fair, a jar of zinnias set on a small table nearby.
The five minute version here is simple: draw just the open drawstring pouch with the thimbles and chalk spilling out, and skip the background scene entirely.
Leave a plain wash behind the pouch instead of a full room, and the page still feels complete on a busy evening.
A small quilt lines a wooden cradle, with a stuffed lamb and a crocheted rattle tucked against the pillow inside it, as explored on the Peter Rabbit journal pages for more nursery-themed sheets.
Who it suits: a mother or grandmother who still keeps her sewing basket by her favourite chair, since every detail here points to a lifetime spent stitching by the window.
A pair of spectacles resting on the arm of the chair and a small sewing tin beside the hoop finish the page without crowding it.
Patchwork scrap bunting strings across a craft table scattered with buttons and ribbon spools below it, catching the light from a nearby window.
Background Papers
Small calico patchwork squares repeat edge to edge in this pattern, perfect tucked behind a photo, lining the inside of a pocket, or wrapped around a plain journal cover.
Hexagon flower clusters in the grandmother’s flower garden style tile across this sheet, ideal as a pocket lining, a cover wrap, or a backing behind a tucked-in photo.
Tiny running stitches and thimbles scatter evenly across this sheet, suited to a photo backing, an envelope pocket, or wrapping a small gift tucked inside the journal.
Small sawtooth star quilt blocks tile across this sheet in a steady repeat, good behind a photo, as a pocket lining, or as a cover wrap for the whole journal. See more pieced motifs in the sewing themed junk journal set.
Lined Writing Pages
Write a gift list for a quilt you plan to piece, a running tally of fabric yardage needed, or a short note to the friend who will receive it.
Jot a sewing room to-do list, a menu for the next quilting bee lunch, or a letter to next year about the quilt you are piecing now.
Record a fabric shopping list from the quilt shop, a short review of a new pattern, or notes on a thread colour worth remembering.
Use this page for a packing list before a quilt retreat, a recipe swapped at a sewing circle, or a few lines about the quilt you finished this season.
Note names and seats for a quilting bee gathering, a list of fabrics to trade, or a short thank you note to tuck into a finished gift quilt.
What to Do Next
Print the full set, sort the scene pages into the order that suits your own sewing room, and start gluing in whichever porch, basket or quilt frame page calls to you first.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for printing a quilting junk journal kit?
Matte cardstock around 90 to 110 lb holds the ink well without buckling. It takes glue, folds and light stitching far better than standard printer paper, and still feeds smoothly through most home printers.
What printer settings give the cleanest colours?
Choose your printer’s best or photo quality setting with matte or plain cardstock selected in the paper type menu. This keeps the watercolour washes crisp and stops the fine ink outlines from looking blurred.
What size should I print the pages for a standard junk journal?
Most home journals use a half letter or A6 trim, so print at full letter or A4 size and cut each sheet in half. This gives two finished pages per printed sheet with no wasted paper.
Can I colour or add to these pages after printing?
Yes, the light palette leaves plenty of room for coloured pencil, watercolour touch-ups or fine pen details. Many quilters also glue on tiny real fabric scraps for extra texture once the page is trimmed.
What do I need to assemble the pages into a journal?
A glue stick, small scissors and a long-reach stapler or needle and thread for binding cover the basics. Washi tape and a few paper clips help while you arrange spreads before committing to glue.
