Table of Contents
A camping junk journal works best when the light looks like a real morning at the lake, canvas warmed by the sun and coffee steam curling over an enamel mug. This kit gives you 23 full scene pages of canvas tents, red canoes, campfire breakfasts and trails through the pines, then 5 seamless background papers for covers and pockets, then 5 lined writing pages for the stories that go with the pictures.
Print the whole set on heavyweight matte paper, at least 24 lb or 32 lb if your printer takes it, so ink does not show through when you write on the back. Use your printer’s best or photo quality setting for the scene and background pages, trim to your journal size with a paper trimmer or sharp scissors, and leave a little white edge if you plan to tea-stain or distress the corners afterward.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Lakeside Camp Pages
Canvas tent by a calm lake with a canoe pulled up on the shore and a stand of pines behind it opens the kit on the quietest possible morning.
Tuck a real breakfast menu or a folded napkin from a trip onto this page, right beside the skillet of bacon and eggs.
The enamel mugs and morning light give it a cheerful start-of-day feel, so it pairs well with a short line about what the first meal outdoors always tastes like, better than it should.
Pair this page with the canoe paddles and lake waves background a few pages on, using the paper as a pocket liner behind the trailer scene for a little hidden note.
Red canoe drifting on a calm lake with paddles laid across the seats and lily pads scattered nearby makes a peaceful full page on its own.
The usual mistake here is leaving the log and ground bare, which makes the page feel unfinished next to the busier scenes around it.
Give the blanket some folds and texture, add a little grass or pine needles under the lantern, and let the thermos catch a bit of evening light so the whole corner feels lived in.
Kitchen And Campfire Mornings
A percolator steaming on a camp stove beside a stack of pancakes and a jug of maple syrup makes this the sweetest breakfast page in the set.
Try the five-minute version of this page by sketching just the hammock and the book quickly, then let the painted pine trunks behind it carry most of the colour.
What did the trail look like today, and what did you stop to notice along the way? Leave a line or two of space here for the answer, right beside the boots and walking stick.
Camp table laid with a checkered cloth, tin plates and a bowl of berries, perfect for gluing in a pressed leaf or a recipe card torn from a notebook.
This page works well in a spread next to the campfire breakfast scene earlier in the set, morning on one side and evening treats on the other.
On The Road And Along The Trail
An old station wagon loaded with gear beside a forest campsite, tent poles and a cooler strapped to the roof, pines standing tall all around it, makes a lively arrival page.
Give this one a window: cut a small flap over the water so a second little scene, a fish or a ripple, peeks through underneath.
Scout knapsack, compass, canteen and a pocket knife laid on a bed of moss make a tidy still life for anyone who loves gear as much as the view.
Try tea-staining just the bottom edge of this page before gluing it in, so the morning mist in the scene seems to drift right off the paper.
This page suits a reader who loves the cosy indoor side of camping as much as the outdoors, cots and a hanging lantern glowing inside the open flaps.
Camp Life Details
Camping cookware drying on a line with tea towels strung between pines gives you a good spot to glue a torn fabric swatch or a scrap of gingham ribbon.
Frame a mountain view from the tent door with a mug of coffee and a pair of wool socks resting just inside, as if the morning has barely started.
Glue a folded paper napkin or a small pressed flower onto this riverbank picnic page, right beside the sandwiches laid out on the cloth.
Pair this with the pine tree ridge lined page later in the kit, writing the day’s plans on one side and sketching the fire ring on the other.
Binoculars, a canvas hat and a small bag of trail mix rest together on a tree stump beside a tent, a quiet pause between one hike and the next.
A vintage camper van parked beside a meadow full of daisies makes a cheerful page for a reader who dreams of a slower kind of road trip.
Pinecones, a tin cup of wild blueberries and a folded bandana rest together on a flat rock, small forage treasures from an afternoon walk.
Close the scene pages with a waterfall swimming hole, a rope swing hanging over the water and towels draped across the rocks nearby, the best afternoon of the whole trip caught in one page.
Background Papers
Small tents and pine trees repeat evenly across this paper, handy as a pocket lining, a backing behind a photo of your own campsite, or a soft cover wrap for the whole journal.
Crossed paddles and soft wave lines repeat across the sheet, a natural match for a photo taken on the water, a pocket behind the red canoe scene, or a journal cover.
This plaid reads like the inside of a wool camp blanket, good behind a photo of the fire, as a pocket lining, or trimmed into strips for a border around another page.
Enamel mugs and pinecones scatter across this sheet, useful under a breakfast photo, as a pocket behind the percolator page, or wrapped around a journal spine.
Little teardrop trailers toss evenly across the page, a fun choice for a cover, a pocket lining behind the trailer scene, or backing for a road trip photo.
Lined Writing Pages
A ridge of pine trees runs along the top of this page, leaving the ruled lines below free for a packing list, a trail log, or notes on where you pitched the tent.
Small canoes and crossed paddles line the bottom edge here, a good spot for a letter to next summer, a list of lakes you want to paddle, or a short memory from the water.
A canvas tent flap frames all four corners of this page, perfect for a gift list for a camping friend, a menu for the next trip, or a note about the best night under canvas.
A small skillet and campfire sit tucked in one corner, leaving the rest of the page open for a breakfast menu, a shopping list for the cooler, or a few lines about the trip.
A dotted trail winds along one side of the page like a little map, ready for a hike log, a list of places still to explore, or a letter to next year’s trip.
What to Do Next
Print the pages you like best first, start with one canoe scene and one background, and build the rest of your camping journal page by page from there.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a camping junk journal kit like this?
Heavyweight matte paper, at least 24 lb or 32 lb, works best, since it holds ink without bleeding through and stands up to gluing, folding and writing on both sides.
What printer settings give the best results for these pages?
Set your printer to its best or photo quality mode on plain or matte paper, which keeps the fine ink outlines crisp and the pastel washes clean rather than streaky.
What size should I print the pages for a junk journal?
Print at standard letter or A4 size and trim down to match your journal, usually around 5 by 7 inches or A5, using a paper trimmer for straight, even edges.
What do I use to glue the pages into a journal?
An acid free glue stick works well for flat pages and keeps edges from wrinkling, while a thin layer of matte decoupage glue suits pages you plan to layer or distress.
Can I colour or add to these pages by hand?
Yes, the pale backgrounds leave plenty of room for coloured pencil highlights, a bit of tea staining along the edges, or stamped words once the page is glued in.
