Table of Contents
This christmas mice junk journal kit follows one small mouse family through every corner of their cosy winter burrow, from the pine sprig tree to the walnut shell bed. You get 22 scene pages full of tiny kitchens, thimble teacups and candle lit stairways, 5 seamless background papers for covers and pockets, and 5 lined writing pages for diary entries and lists.
Print the set on matte cardstock heavy enough to take glue without curling, around 160 to 200 gsm, and set your printer to its best or photo quality so the fine ink lines stay crisp. Trim each sheet to your journal size once it is dry, and keep a little white border if you like a deckle edged look when you tear it by hand.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Tree And Gift Pages
Gather the whole mouse family around a small pine sprig tree hung with tiny berries and mismatched buttons for ornaments, their burrow glowing warm behind them.
Pair baking in a tiny kitchen with a thimble bowl with one of the background papers further down this set, such as the thimble and button scatter, cut into a strip and glued along the base of the page as a little counter.
That shared motif ties the two pages together without any extra drawing, and it gives the scene a sturdier place to stand.
Two mice curl up together in a walnut shell bed under a patchwork blanket, a candle stub burning low on the shelf beside them while snow settles outside their round window.
The usual trouble with a gift wrapping scene like this is letting the ribbon and thread spool crowd out the little mouse doing the work. Keep the mouse and the half wrapped parcel largest on the page, and let the spool of thread and ribbon scrap sit smaller to the side, still tied into the same warm corner.
Snow And Outdoor Pages
Write the date of the first real snowfall, or the name of whoever still goes sledding every winter no matter their age, right along the bottom edge of this page.
Several mice gather for tea poured from thimble teacups set on a table made from a large button, a small plate of seed cakes passed between them.
Tear the edge of this page roughly by hand before gluing it in, so the torn line echoes the rough bark of the tree root the little house sits inside, then tuck a lantern sticker over the doorway if you have one.
The five minute version of this page just needs the mouse and the little hearth sketched in loosely with the mitten stocking as the one clear detail, so keep your pencil lines quick if you are short on time.
A candle stub and a woolen scarf keep this little mouse warm while caroling out in the drifting snow, a string of paper lanterns glowing along the path behind.
This page suits anyone building a gift journal for the reader of the family, the one who always has a book nearby no matter the season or the weather.
Two or three mice work together to carry a single holly berry home through the snow, each one gripping a different side as they move along a small cleared path.
Ask a short question across the bottom of this page, something like what is the best surprise you have ever found waiting for you, and leave a line or two of space to answer it.
Skating here happens on nothing grander than a frozen puddle ringed with fallen pine needles, which somehow makes the little loops and spins feel even braver.
Cosy Corner Pages
Glue a real gingerbread recipe clipping or a short ingredient list straight onto this page, since the gingerbread house here stands taller than the mice decorating it and gives plenty of room around the edges for notes. For more pages built entirely around kitchen scenes like this one, the Christmas Baking Junk Journal kit pairs well alongside it.
Knitting a scarf by firelight, with balls of yarn rolling loose at its feet, this little mouse settles into a corner warm enough to spend an entire evening in.
Fold this page in half like an envelope before gluing in one edge, so it opens like a little flap, and slip a real note or ticket inside to echo the sealed letter the mouse carries through the snow.
Cosy Corner Pages
Curled into an old slipper by the fireplace, crumb of cake still beside it, this mouse has clearly had the kind of full, warm evening everyone hopes for in winter.
Pin this page beside the button table tea scene earlier in the set, so the two gatherings sit across from each other in the spread like one long cosy evening of eating and talking.
Right at the very top of a towering pine sprig tree, this small mouse stretches to set the star in place, string lights and ornaments glittering down below.
A common slip with a night scene like this is painting the stairway too brightly, which flattens the cosy feeling. Keep most of the page in soft shadow and let the one candle the mouse carries be the brightest point, so the warm light does the work.
Nearly as tall as the little mouse itself, this glass ornament hangs low on the tree, catching every bit of light while the mouse simply stands and stares up at it.
Close out the scene pages with a little mouse band, one playing a thimble turned drum and others piping away on pine needle flutes, music drifting through the whole burrow.
Background Papers
Scattered tiny mice and holly sprigs repeat edge to edge in soft sage and blush, perfect for lining a pocket page, backing a photo of family gatherings, or wrapping a plain cover.
Thimbles and buttons tumble across this paper in a loose repeating scatter, handy as a pocket lining, a cover wrap, or cut into strips to trim the base of a kitchen scene.
Small mice peek between the checks of a soft red gingham, a good match under a baking photo, as a pocket lining, or wrapped around a gift tag.
Walnut shells and acorn caps repeat in a gentle all over pattern, well suited to lining a keepsake pocket, backing a nature photo, or covering a small journal.
Tiny mouse houses repeat like wallpaper in soft pale green, ideal behind a family photo, as a pocket lining, or wrapped around the whole journal cover for a storybook feel.
Lined Writing Pages
Corner sprays of holly and a tiny mouse hole frame this page, leaving the ruled lines free for a gift list, a holiday menu, or a short letter to next year’s self.
A band of tiny mice strung along a garland runs across the top of the page, leaving the lined space below open for a family recipe, a thank you note, or the story behind a favourite ornament.
Thimbles and a spool of thread run down one side of the page like a ribbon, leaving room on the lined area for a sewing list, a gift tag draft, or notes on a handmade present.
A row of walnut shells and acorn caps sits along the bottom edge like a footer, the rest of the page kept clear with faint lines for a bedtime story, a wish list, or a short winter memory.
A small arched mouse door frames the top of this page like a little entrance, with faint lines below ready for a letter to a loved one, a packing list, or a line about the best part of the day.
What to Do Next
Print the pages you love most first, arrange the scenes in whatever order tells your little mouse family’s Christmas best, and let the backgrounds and lined pages fill in around them.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a christmas mice junk journal kit like this one?
Matte cardstock around 160 to 200 gsm works best, since it takes glue and colored pencil without curling or bleeding through. Plain copy paper works for quick drafts but tears easily once folded or layered.
What printer settings keep the mouse illustrations sharp?
Set the printer to its best or photo quality setting on plain or matte paper to keep the fine ink lines crisp. Lower draft settings often blur the thin outlines and soften the watercolour detail.
What size should I print these pages for a junk journal?
Standard US letter or A4 suits most home printed journals, though you can scale the pages down in your print dialog for a smaller handheld book. Trim each sheet after printing once the ink is fully dry.
What should I use to color or glue the pages into a journal?
Use a basic glue stick or a thin layer of craft glue for gluing pages, and fine tip pens or colored pencils for any extra coloring or journaling. Keep metal paper clips away from pages meant to be torn later.
Can I mix these mouse pages with other Christmas junk journal sets?
Yes, these pages mix well with other cosy holiday sets since the palette stays soft and pastel throughout. Pages from the Christmas Junk Journal Pages kit or the Christmas Junk Journal Ideas collection layer in nicely beside the mouse scenes.
