Table of Contents
A cherry blossom junk journal lives or dies on one thing: do the petals feel like they are actually falling. This kit gives you 22 full scenes that carry that feeling from a tea table to a garden bridge to a hillside cottage, then 5 seamless background papers for covers and pockets, then 5 lined writing pages for the words that go with all that pink.
Print everything on matte cardstock heavy enough to take glue without curling, run your printer on its best photo or presentation setting, and trim close to the edge so the color runs right to the border of the page. Once the sheets are cut you can start building spreads straight away.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Tea Table Pages
Start the tea section with a branch of cherry blossom standing in a celadon vase next to a teapot and two cups, the kind of corner you would actually sit at to write.
Leave a line or two blank beside the cups for whatever you were drinking when you sat down to journal, a quick note on the tea, the weather, or who joined you. Keep the entry short, this page works better as a frame than a full diary spread.
Pair this page with the falling petals background later in this set: cut the bridge scene into an arch or oval and mount it directly on top of the petal pattern so the blossoms seem to drift from one page onto the other.
A checked picnic blanket spread under a blossoming tree holds a bento box, a thermos and a scatter of petals, the whole little scene asking to be tucked into a spring spread.
The usual mistake on a path page like this is leaving the trees too thin, so the pink reads as a few scattered dots instead of a real avenue.
Paint the blossoms in dense clusters along both sides of the path before you add the bicycle, then let a few loose petals drift onto the basket and the ground. That density is what sells the whole river walk as one continuous bloom rather than a handful of separate trees.
Garden And Sky Pages
One small bird perched on a low cherry branch against a soft blue sky makes a quiet single sentence of a page, the kind you reach for when a spread needs breathing room.
This one suits a reader who is building a journal as a gift for someone who loves a quiet garden corner more than a busy market scene.
The parasol leans against a stone lantern with petals catching on its folds, and there is enough calm space around both objects to glue in a photo or a pressed flower without crowding the picture. Choose it for someone who journals slowly, a page at a time.
Fallen cherry petals float on the surface of green tea in a cup set on a wooden tray, a small still life that fits neatly into any corner left over on a busier spread.
Try a window cut for this page: trim an oval or arched opening into a plain sheet and mount it over the pagoda scene so only the curved roofline and a few branches show through.
It is a quick fold-out trick that turns one printed picture into two reveals in the same spread, and it works just as well cut as a simple square if you would rather skip the curves.
A girl in a pink dress reaches up for a low cherry branch, caught mid step on a garden path with petals falling all around her.
Cottage And Window Pages
Give this one its own short prompt: what would you want to remember about the house you grew up near, or the one you dream of owning one day.
Write the answer in a line or two along the bottom margin, under the blossom tree and the red door. It turns a pretty cottage scene into a page that means something specific to you.
Cherry petals have drifted in through an open window onto a sill framed by lace curtain, a page better suited to the quieter side of a spread than the center of it.
Koi fish move beneath a surface scattered with floating cherry petals, their orange and white patterns the one warm note against all the pink and green around them.
Try tea staining just the outer edge of this page before you glue it in, a light wash along the border works especially well with the pale blue of the gate.
The wreath itself stays crisp and pink in the center, so the aged edge reads as an old garden photograph rather than a worn out print. Let it dry flat under a heavy book before trimming.
Market And Craft Pages
A small plate of mochi sweets sits beside a single sprig of cherry blossom, simple enough to glue onto a page that already has plenty happening around it.
This scene pairs naturally with the wave and blossom pattern from the background section: back the page with a strip of that pattern along one edge like a ribbon of water continuing off the sheet.
The paddle boat gives the eye somewhere to land among all the trees ringing the basin, so keep it a touch larger than the other small details on the page.
A folded silk fan rests across a lacquered tray with a single blossom sprig laid beside it, a quiet still life for a corner that needs one calm object rather than a crowded scene.
Cherry trees arch over a cobbled lane to form a tunnel of bloom, the kind of path a reader might want to walk straight into her journal and never leave.
The usual mistake with a sleeping animal page is centering the kitten too squarely and leaving the rest of the sheet nearly empty.
Drift the fallen petals generously around the kitten and let a low branch cross into the frame from one side so the whole page feels like one continuous nap under the tree, not a single cutout shape.
Buckets of cut cherry blossom branches stand at a flower market stall, ready for the kind of entry about a market morning or a stall you remember fondly.
Cherry blossoms along the bank mirror themselves in a still canal where a small boat sits moored, the water doubling every branch above it.
Here is the five minute version of this kit: if you only glue in one page tonight, make it this one.
A scatter of pressed cherry blossoms sits beside a pair of tweezers and a small glass jar on a plain craft table, simple enough to cut out quickly and drop into any open spread without planning a whole layout around it.
A cherry tree in full bloom crowns a hillside with a small cottage tucked below it, a fitting last scene before the backgrounds and lined pages take over the rest of the kit.
Background Papers
Small scattered cherry blossoms cover this cream colored sheet edge to edge, ideal as a quiet base under a photograph, a pocket lining, or the inside cover of the whole journal.
Cherry branches cross and repeat over a pale blue field here, a good pick behind a photo of a garden outing or as the outer cover of a spring themed journal.
A soft blush field gets filled edge to edge with falling cherry petals, nothing else competing for attention.
Use it as a pocket lining for ticket stubs and pressed flowers, behind a close up photo where you want the pink to carry the page, or folded into a simple envelope for keeping small cards.
Little garden birds perch among small blossom sprigs across this mint colored sheet, a cheerful choice for a cover, a pocket lining, or backing a page of pressed leaves.
Cherry blossom sprigs alternate with a soft wave motif over a lilac field, a fitting companion to the bridge and tidal basin scenes earlier in this cherry blossom junk journal, and just as useful as a plain cover paper.
Lined Writing Pages
A single cherry branch stretches across the top of this page above rows of faint ruled lines, ready for a gift list, a short letter to next year, or notes from a garden walk.
Petals drift down one side of this page in a loose border, leaving the ruled lines free for a packing list, a tea recipe, or a few lines about the first bloom of the season.
A small garden bridge and a scatter of blossoms run along the bottom edge here, leaving the lines above open for a menu, a guest list, or a letter to whoever gave you the journal.
One corner carries a small songbird among cherry blossoms, the rest of the page kept to faint ruled lines for a recipe, a list of spring errands, or a quick note to your future self.
A full wreath of cherry blossom frames the edges of this page, leaving a clean center of faint ruled lines open for a longer entry, a letter, or a list of favorite spring things.
What to Do Next
Print the set, sort the pages into the tea table, garden, cottage and market groups, and start gluing the scenes in first so the backgrounds and lined pages fall naturally into the gaps around them.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a cherry blossom junk journal?
Matte cardstock around 28 to 32lb holds the pink tones well and takes glue without curling. Heavier stock also lets you fold pockets and window flaps without the paper tearing at the crease.
What printer settings give the clearest colors?
Set the printer to its best photo or presentation quality on matte or cardstock paper. This slows the print slightly but keeps the blush and celadon tones clean instead of grainy or faded.
What size should I print these pages?
Standard US letter or A4 suits most journals and binds easily. Trim a little off each edge after printing so the painted background runs flush to the border with no white margin left showing.
Do I need to color or paint anything myself?
No, every page prints fully finished in color and is ready to cut and glue in. You only add your own writing on the lined pages and whatever you tuck into the pockets or windows.
What should I use to glue the pages into my journal?
An acid free glue stick works well for flat pages and keeps the paper from wrinkling. Save liquid glue for pockets or layered elements where you need a stronger hold along the edges.
