A silly doodle is the fastest way to make yourself laugh on a page, and this list gives you 32 small characters who have no business acting the way they do: a worm in sneakers, a pickle floating on a pool ring, a cloud attempting yoga. None of them need good drawing skills, just a fineliner, a couple of markers and a willingness to give an everyday object arms, legs and a bad attitude.
Work through these in any order on a lazy afternoon or keep the list open on your phone for whenever you need a five minute break. Each one is built from a few rounded shapes, a face, and one silly action, so you can finish several in a single sitting and still have ink left in the pen.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Worm in sneakers is the easiest way into this whole list, so start here. Draw one long wavy tube with a fineliner, pinch it into three or four soft bumps like a line of sausages joined end to end, then give the front bump two dot eyes and a proud little smile.
Add two tiny sneakers at the tail end, just ovals with a strap line and a sole, colored in hot pink with a lime green swoosh. If the worm comes out too straight and stiff, curve the body into a shallow S shape so it looks like it is mid strut rather than lying flat.
No pink marker on hand works fine with any bright color you already own, since the joy here is the contrast against black ink rather than the exact hue. Keep the line wobbly on purpose, a perfectly smooth worm looks less pleased with itself.
Try this: draw the sneakers slightly too big for the worm’s body, oversized shoes always read as funnier than neatly fitted ones.

Once the worm is done, roll straight into a potato riding a skateboard, since both rely on the same trick of giving a lumpy vegetable confidence it has not earned. Draw a rounded oval with a few small dimple dots for eyes on the potato’s skin, then a simple rectangle skateboard underneath with two small circle wheels.
Give the potato two stick arms flung straight out to the sides for balance and a wide open mouth, either thrilled or terrified works. Ink the potato’s outline first, then switch to the fineliner for the board and wheels, and save the lime green marker for one speed line trailing behind.
The board often ends up too long for the potato to balance on believably, so keep it short, barely wider than the potato itself. A pencil sketch first helps if you are not confident placing the wheels under the board without a ruler.
Measuring trick: the skateboard should sit no longer than the potato is tall, otherwise the whole drawing reads as a potato standing on a plank rather than riding it.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Snail in a racing helmet keeps the speed theme going but swaps the potato’s chaos for a tiny bit of actual sporting focus. Start with the shell, a tight spiral drawn from the center outward, then attach the long curved body and two little eye stalks peeking just under the helmet brim.
The helmet sits on top of the head like a small dome with a chin strap, colored hot pink, and you can lean the whole snail body sideways to suggest it is cornering hard. A short lime green motion line behind the shell sells the speed even though everyone knows a snail is not going anywhere fast.
If the spiral shell looks messy, draw it lighter in pencil first and go over just the cleanest version in ink. Swap the helmet for a simple baseball cap if a round helmet shape is giving you trouble.
Perspective tip: tilt the snail’s whole body and shell about twenty degrees into the turn, a perfectly upright snail looks parked, not racing.
Palette: Hot Pink,Lime Green,Ink Black
Cloud doing tree pose is a nice change of pace after three ground level characters, since it floats and gives you a reason to play with a bit of white space. Draw a soft bumpy cloud outline, add a simple face in the middle, then give it two stick arms raised overhead in a prayer shape and one stick leg bent with the foot resting against the other leg, just like the real yoga pose.
A small rectangle underneath in lime green reads instantly as a yoga mat, which is really all the scene needs to make sense. Ink the cloud’s bumpy outline first in a few confident loops rather than many tiny scallops, since too many small bumps make it look like popcorn instead of a cloud.
If balance poses are hard to draw convincingly, let the cloud wobble slightly, one arm higher than the other, which actually makes the pose funnier.
No mat in your marker stash is fine, a simple hot pink line under the cloud works just as well as a solid rectangle.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Banana slipping on its own peel is the classic slapstick gag, and drawing it well is mostly about the angle of the body, not the face. Draw the banana’s curved body tipped backward at a sharp angle, legs kicked up in the air, arms flailing, with its own peeled skin bunched up under one foot like a little yellow puddle.
Give it one exaggerated open mouth and raised eyebrows rather than a calm face, the funnier the panic, the better the joke lands. Ink the body first in its mid fall pose, then add the peel last so you can judge exactly where the foot needs to land on it.
The most common mistake is drawing the banana upright and just adding a peel nearby, which reads as standing, not falling. Tip the whole body a good forty five degrees backward and the fall becomes obvious immediately.
Color swap: no yellow marker is fine, outline the banana in black only and let the lime green do just the peel for contrast.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Carrot lifting a tiny dumbbell moves the energy from falling to flexing, so this is a good moment to draw something a little more static and controlled. Start with the carrot’s tapered cone body, add a small leafy top in lime green, then two short stick arms bent at the elbow holding a small dumbbell shape overhead.
A simple trick for making the lift look like real effort is drawing two or three short straight lines near the face for strain, plus eyebrows pressed down hard. Ink the carrot body and face first, then the arms, and add the dumbbell last so its size stays proportional to the arms holding it.
If the dumbbell looks too heavy or too light for the pose, check that the carrot’s arms are drawn slightly bent rather than straight, a straight arm reads as resting, a bent one reads as working.
One tip for today: give the carrot tiny bent knees too, a flexed lower body sells effort even more than the face does.
Palette: Hot Pink,Lime Green,Ink Black
Sock running from the washing machine brings in a bit of a chase scene, which is a fun change after a string of single characters standing still. Draw a simple sock shape with two running stick legs underneath, arms pumping, and a wide eyed face looking back over its shoulder in mild panic.
Behind it, a rounded washing machine with a circular door and a couple of small dial marks anchors the joke without needing much detail. Ink the sock first in its full running stride, legs spread wide in an exaggerated sprint, then the machine behind it, kept smaller in the background so the sock stays the star.
If the running pose looks stiff, bend the front leg hard at the knee and stretch the back leg straight, that single change makes almost any character look like it is actually moving.
Swap idea: draw a single loose sock lying nearby if a full washing machine feels like too much to fit on the page, the running sock alone still tells the joke.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Lemon making a sour face in a spoon lets you draw the same character twice, once normal size and once tiny inside a reflection, which is a nice little challenge after simpler single figures. Draw the lemon’s oval body with a scrunched up face, squeezed eyes and a puckered mouth, then hold a small spoon up near its face.
Inside the spoon’s bowl, repeat a miniature version of that same scrunched face, slightly curved to follow the spoon’s rounded shape. Ink the full size lemon first and get its expression right before attempting the tiny reflected one, since the small version only needs two or three lines to read clearly.
The reflection often ends up too detailed and busy for its size, so simplify it down to just squeezed eyes and a pucker, nothing else.
Light and reflection tip: a few short curved lines around the spoon’s edge suggest shine, which makes it obviously a reflective spoon rather than a flat gray oval.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Pickle floating on a pool ring is pure relaxed energy, a good breather after the sour lemon’s tense little face. Draw a long bumpy pickle shape lying back inside a round pool ring, two short arms draped over the sides, a pair of sunglasses perched on its face, and maybe one leg crossed over the other.
Color the pool ring in bright hot pink with a lime green stripe around it, which does most of the work making the scene read as summer fun. Ink the pickle’s lumpy outline first, since pickles are basically a wavy oval with small bumps, then the ring underneath it, then the sunglasses last so they sit correctly on the already drawn face.
If the pickle looks like it is standing inside the ring rather than lounging in it, lower its body so the ring edge crosses the middle of the pickle, not just below it.
Easy swap: a plain inner tube shape without the stripe works fine if you are down to one marker color that day.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Lamp reading by flashlight is a quieter joke built entirely on light sources, which makes it a good one for practicing where shadows fall. Draw a simple desk lamp shape with a face on the shade, bent neck, and two tiny arms holding up a small flashlight and a book, since the lamp’s own bulb is pointlessly unlit.
Shade the area right around the lamp’s face a touch darker with light cross hatching to show it genuinely cannot see without the flashlight, then leave a small bright circle where the flashlight beam hits the book. Ink the lamp body and face first, then add the flashlight beam last as a simple cone shape in lime green so it reads as light rather than a solid object.
The gag falls flat if the room looks evenly lit, so commit to darkening everything except that one small beam area.
Light source tip: keep the flashlight beam’s cone narrow and aimed straight at the book, a wide vague beam looks like a smudge instead of a light.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Broccoli admiring its new haircut turns a plain vegetable into a bit of a diva, and the trick is drawing the same bumpy floret texture in two slightly different shapes. Draw the broccoli’s round cloud like top in tight overlapping bumps, give it a face near the stem, then hold up a small hand mirror in one stick arm.
Shape the top with a slightly asymmetrical, trimmed look, maybe one side rounder than the other, to suggest a fresh cut rather than its natural shape. Ink the florets first working around the outline in small curved strokes, then the stem and arms, then the mirror last with a tiny reflected bump shape inside it.
Too many tiny bumps drawn the same size can flatten the whole head into texture with no shape, so vary the bump sizes slightly and leave a few open gaps of white.
Texture trick: press the fineliner down harder on a few bumps near the edges to add weight, lighter strokes in the middle keep the center from feeling cluttered.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Pea waving from its pod is a sweet, simple one to slot in here, basically a tiny character escaping its own home. Draw a long curved pod shape split slightly open at one end, one round pea climbing halfway out with a stick arm raised in a wave, and two or three more peas still sitting inside.
Give the climbing pea the clearest, happiest face of the group, since it is the one leaving the others behind for adventure. Ink the pod outline first as one smooth curved shape, then the peas inside working from back to front so the climbing one overlaps the pod edge correctly.
If the peas all look identical and the scene feels flat, give only the climbing pea a face and arms, leaving the others as plain circles, which naturally draws the eye to the right character.
Proportion check: make the pod roughly three times the length of one pea, any shorter and there is no room to show it climbing out.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Egg doing a wobbly handstand is a fun test of balance in a shape that has no flat sides at all, which is exactly what makes it funny. Draw the egg’s oval body upside down, two stick arms planted on the ground holding up the weight, legs kicked up and slightly bent since a perfectly straight handstand looks too easy for an egg.
Add a strained face with squeezed eyes near what is now the bottom of the egg, and a few short wobble lines around the arms to show it is barely holding the pose. Ink the upside down body first, then the arms planted firmly below it, then the wobble lines last so they do not get covered by other ink.
An egg standing too still loses the joke entirely, so always bend one leg differently from the other and tilt the whole body a few degrees off vertical.
Quick version: a five minute egg just needs the upside down oval, arms and wobble lines, skip the detailed strained face if you are short on time.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Peanut playing a tiny accordion rewards a bit of patience with the small pleated instrument, so take this one slightly slower than the faster gags before it. Draw the peanut’s classic figure eight shell shape, add a face on the top half, then two stick arms holding a small accordion drawn as a rectangle with several short zigzag folds down the middle.
Give the peanut closed eyes and an open mouth mid song, since a performer enjoying their own music always reads as funnier than a blank expression. Ink the peanut shell first, then the arms, then the accordion last, building the zigzag folds in one continuous back and forth line rather than separate short strokes.
Folds that are too even can look like a flat striped box instead of a squeezed instrument, so vary their width slightly and let a couple lean at a small angle.
Vary it next time: swap the accordion for a tiny guitar or drum using the same stick arm pose, the peanut character works with almost any instrument.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Fork and spoon slow dancing is a nice gentle duet after a run of solo characters, and it works because cutlery already has a built in shape for arms. Draw the fork as a tall thin handle with its tines fanned slightly at the top like hair, then the spoon as a round bowled handle leaning in close, both with small simple faces and short bent arms wrapped around each other.
Tilt both bodies slightly toward one another at the waist so the pose reads as a slow sway rather than two stiff utensils standing side by side. Ink the fork first since its tines take a bit more care, then the spoon overlapping slightly in front where the two meet, then the shared arms last to tie the pose together.
If the two look like they are standing apart rather than dancing, bring their feet closer together and let their arms actually cross or touch rather than just pointing at each other.
Simple tip: close both characters’ eyes and tilt their heads together, that one detail makes it read instantly as a slow dance.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Lost sock heading on vacation gives the earlier running sock a happier ending, so if you drew that one already this makes a fun pair. Draw a simple sock shape standing upright on two short legs, a small backpack strapped over its shoulders, and one arm raised holding a tiny sunhat or waving a cheerful goodbye.
Add a couple of small motion lines behind it and maybe a tiny sun in the corner to suggest it is finally off somewhere nice after its time in the laundry. Ink the sock body first, then the backpack straps crossing over its front, then any small travel props last so they sit on top of the finished figure.
A static standing sock can look flat, so angle one leg forward mid step and tilt the body slightly to suggest it is already walking away.
For more travel themed characters once this one works, the travel doodle ideas cover suitcases and postcards in the same small sketchbook style.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Slug with a tiny suitcase crossing a sidewalk crack keeps the travel mood going but at an appropriately slower pace. Draw the slug’s long low body with a small set of eye stalks up front, a little suitcase gripped in one stubby limb, and underneath it a single jagged crack line running across the sidewalk the slug is halfway over.
Give the slug a determined expression rather than a worried one, since the joke is how seriously it is treating such a tiny obstacle. Ink the sidewalk crack first as a guide, then the slug’s body positioned so its front half has already crossed while the back half trails behind on the near side.
If the crack is too wide compared to the slug, it reads as a canyon rather than a sidewalk gap, so keep it a thin jagged line no wider than the slug’s own height.
Scale trick: keep the suitcase about the size of the slug’s head, any bigger and it looks impossible for the slug to actually carry.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Pencil sharpening itself and wincing is a short sharp little gag that plays entirely off one wincing expression. Draw a tall pencil body with a simple face near the top, then its own pointed tip pushed into a small handheld sharpener held in one of its own stick arms, eyes squeezed shut and mouth in a tight grimace.
A few small curled shaving lines falling from the sharpener sell the idea that something is actively happening, not just resting there. Ink the pencil’s body and face first with the wince clearly set before adding the sharpener, since the whole joke depends on that expression reading immediately.
If the pose looks static, angle the pencil’s body slightly away from the sharpener as if flinching back even while still pushing the tip in.
Today’s tip: draw the sharpened point slightly shorter and rougher looking than a normal pencil tip, a perfect point looks too calm for a wince.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Corn cob surprised by a popped kernel is a good one for practicing a single startled expression against a very repetitive, patterned body. Draw the corn cob as a tall rounded shape covered in small bumpy kernels arranged in neat rows, then give the top half a wide eyed, open mouthed face as one kernel near its middle pops loose and flies off to the side.
Draw a short motion line trailing the flying kernel and maybe a tiny star or spark mark where it detached, which makes the surprise read clearly even at a glance. Ink the rows of kernels first in small even curved strokes, then the face last, since placing the face after the texture keeps it from getting buried among all those bumps.
If the kernels start looking uneven or too crowded, leave slightly more white space between rows than feels natural, it keeps the texture readable instead of muddy.
Ten minute version: draw just three or four kernel rows near the face and leave the rest of the cob plain, the eye fills in the pattern anyway.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Cactus asking for a hug is one of the sweetest jokes on this list precisely because it should not be possible. Draw a round barrel shaped cactus body with a simple happy face, two stick arms spread wide open in a clear hugging pose, and a scatter of short straight spike lines all over the body and arms.
Keep the spikes short and evenly spaced rather than long and sharp looking, since the gag works best when the cactus looks genuinely hopeful rather than threatening. Ink the rounded body and open arms first without any spikes yet, then add the spike lines last in small quick strokes radiating outward from the body.
Spikes drawn too long can make the whole cactus look aggressive instead of endearing, so keep each one shorter than the width of one finger on the drawn hand.
Simple swap: skip the small pot underneath if you want the cactus floating freely on the page, it still reads clearly without one.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Pear twirling in a tutu takes the pear’s naturally bottom heavy shape and turns it into an advantage rather than something to fix. Draw the pear’s rounded body narrowing toward the top, add a small tutu skirt in hot pink flaring out around the widest part, two thin stick legs in a crossed ballet pose, and arms raised gracefully overhead.
A few short curved motion lines around the skirt suggest the spin without needing to draw multiple positions. Ink the pear’s body first, then the tutu layered on top so its flare reads as fabric rather than being confused with the pear’s own shape, then the legs and motion lines last.
If the twirl looks stiff, angle the head slightly down and to one side, real dancers rarely look straight ahead mid spin.
Vary it next time: try the same twirling pose on a different fruit entirely, an apple or an orange in a tutu works just as well once this pear feels comfortable.
Palette: Hot Pink,Lime Green,Ink Black
Houseplant walking itself on a leash is a quietly absurd one, since there is no owner anywhere in the frame, just the plant marching along holding its own leash. Draw a simple pot with a leafy top, add two stick legs underneath the pot, one stick arm reaching up and over to hold a leash that loops back down to a small collar around the pot’s rim.
Give the plant a determined, purposeful walking stance, front leg forward and bent, the way a dog on a mission would walk. Ink the pot and leaves first, then the legs positioned mid stride, then the leash curving from the collar up to the holding hand last so its path reads clearly.
If the leash shape gets confusing, keep it as one simple curved line rather than looping it more than once around the body.
For more plant based characters, the food doodle ideas cover a similar mix of everyday objects brought to life in the same loose sketchbook style.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Bean in a superhero cape mid flight finally gets one character off the ground entirely, which changes how the whole pose works compared to everything standing or sitting so far. Draw the bean’s simple curved body tilted forward at a steep diagonal, one fist punched out ahead, legs trailing straight back, and a cape streaming out behind in hot pink caught mid flap.
A few short speed lines trailing from the feet finish the flying feel without needing a background. Ink the bean’s diagonal body first since that angle sets the whole energy of the drawing, then the cape last, letting it curve and flutter rather than lying flat against the back.
A cape drawn stiff and straight kills the motion instantly, so give it at least one wavy curve along its length, as if caught by wind.
Perspective note: tilt the bean’s whole body a full forty five degrees rather than keeping it upright, an upright flying pose reads as standing in midair instead of soaring.
Palette: Hot Pink,Lime Green,Ink Black
Fish riding a bicycle along a ground line brings in wheels again but gives them to a character with no legs at all, which is really the whole joke. Draw the fish’s body in profile with simple fin arms gripping the handlebars, a bicycle frame underneath with two wheels, and a single straight ground line beneath the tires to anchor the whole scene.
Keep the fish’s tail curving naturally behind the seat rather than tucked awkwardly in front, since that keeps the silhouette readable at a glance. Ink the bicycle frame and wheels first as the structural guide, then the fish positioned on top gripping the handlebars, then the ground line last running the full width of the page.
If the fish looks like it is floating above the bike rather than riding it, check that the fins actually overlap the handlebars and the body sits directly above the seat.
No bicycle reference handy is fine, two circles joined by a simple triangle frame reads as a bike shape without needing exact proportions.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Moon brushing its teeth in a nightcap is a cozy little bedtime scene that works nicely as a slower, more detailed piece after several faster action poses. Draw a large crescent moon shape with a simple sleepy face, a small pointed nightcap with a puff on the end sitting on its head, and one stick arm holding a toothbrush up near its mouth.
A few short foam squiggle lines near the brush suggest it is actually mid brush rather than just holding the toothbrush still. Ink the crescent shape first since its curve sets the whole mood of the drawing, then the nightcap and face, then the arm and toothbrush last with the foam squiggles added on top.
If the crescent looks too thin and sharp, round out both pointed tips slightly, a softer crescent reads friendlier for a bedtime character.
Quick version for today: a ten minute moon skips the foam squiggles entirely and still reads clearly with just the nightcap and toothbrush in hand.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Spoon pole vaulting over a cereal bowl turns breakfast into a track and field event, and the challenge here is getting a convincing mid air arch. Draw a round bowl shape first as the obstacle, then the spoon’s body bent in a dramatic arch above it, one stick arm gripping a thin pole planted just beside the bowl’s edge, legs trailing behind in a long stretched line.
A couple of small motion lines trailing off the spoon’s handle finish the sense of speed and lift. Ink the bowl first to lock in the scale of the jump, then the pole planted at an angle beside it, then the spoon’s arched body last positioned clearly above the bowl’s rim, not beside it.
A spoon drawn flat and straight above the bowl looks like it is simply floating there, so commit to a real curved arch through the body, highest at the middle of the jump.
Proportion check: make the bowl roughly as wide as the spoon is long, any bigger and the vault starts looking impossible even for a cartoon.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Raindrop surfing on a tiny board is a fun one to try once a few of the calmer scenes are behind you, since it needs a convincing sense of a wave underneath. Draw the raindrop’s classic teardrop body with a small happy face, two stick arms out for balance, standing on a short surfboard that sits along the crest of a simple curved wave line.
Keep the wave as one smooth curved shape rather than many small choppy lines, which keeps the whole scene from feeling cluttered under such a small character. Ink the wave shape first as the base of the whole drawing, then the surfboard sitting along its curve, then the raindrop balanced on top last.
If the raindrop looks like it is standing on flat ground, tilt the surfboard to follow the wave’s slope rather than keeping it level, and lean the raindrop’s body slightly into that same angle.
Easy swap: draw a simple rolling hill line instead of a wave if water textures feel tricky, the raindrop surfing a grassy hill is its own fun joke too.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Avocado carrying its pit like a bowling ball is a nice reuse of a shape the avocado already has built in, which makes the joke feel satisfying once it clicks. Draw the avocado’s rounded body with a simple face, bend the whole figure slightly forward at the waist, then draw one arm swung back holding its own large round pit the way a bowler holds a ball mid approach.
A couple of short speed lines near the pit suggest the swing is already in motion rather than just posed and still. Ink the avocado’s bent over body first to set the leaning pose, then the pit held in the swung back arm, then the speed lines last so they trail off the pit cleanly.
If the pit looks too small to be a believable bowling ball, size it closer to the width of the avocado’s own head, any smaller and the joke does not land.
No large pit reference needed, a plain dark oval works fine as long as it is noticeably the heaviest looking shape in the drawing.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Ant lifting a giant cheese puff plays on scale more than any other idea on this list, so the size difference is really what you are drawing, not just the ant itself. Draw a small ant body with the usual three segments and thin bent legs, then two tiny arms raised overhead holding up one large, bumpy textured cheese puff shape that dwarfs the ant completely.
A strained face and a couple of short effort lines near the arms sell the impossible weight being lifted. Ink the ant’s small body first so its scale is locked in early, then the cheese puff drawn deliberately oversized above it, bumpy texture added with short curved strokes around its outer edge.
If the size contrast is not reading clearly, make the cheese puff at least three or four times the width of the ant’s whole body, anything closer in size loses the joke.
Today’s tip: bend the ant’s legs slightly inward under the strain, straight legs under that much weight look unconvincing even in a silly drawing.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Stapler snoring with its mouth open is a satisfying one because the object’s actual hinge becomes the joke, its top half just falls open like a jaw. Draw the stapler’s rectangular body, let the top lever hang open wide at its real hinge point, add closed sleepy eyes above it and a couple of small zzz marks drifting up from the open mouth.
Keep the body resting flat on its side rather than upright, since a sleeping object lying down reads instantly clearer than one standing. Ink the stapler’s body and open top first, getting the hinge angle wide enough to read as a yawning mouth, then the sleepy face, then the zzz marks last drifting off at a gentle diagonal.
If the open top looks more like a lid than a mouth, add a small curved line just inside it to suggest a tongue, which flips the read instantly.
Easy swap: any hinged object works for this same gag, a flip phone or a laptop snoring open at the hinge follows the exact same steps.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Pineapple getting a haircut from a pair of scissors closes out the fruit characters with a bit of cheerful vanity, much like the broccoli from earlier but with a very different texture to work with. Draw the pineapple’s round body covered in a simple diamond cross hatch pattern, its leafy green top trimmed shorter on one side than the other, and a pair of small scissors mid snip near the leaves held by a floating stick arm.
Give the pineapple a relaxed, pleased expression, since getting pampered should look pleasant rather than alarming. Ink the diamond pattern across the body first in light even strokes, then the leafy crown trimmed unevenly, then the scissors last positioned right where a leaf has just been cut.
If the diamond pattern gets too dense and busy, space the lines further apart near the edges of the body and let the pattern stay looser in the middle.
Vary it next time: try the same haircut gag on a cactus or a houseplant instead, trimmed leaves work the same way across almost any green character.
Palette: Lime Green,Hot Pink,Ink Black
Sun rubbing sunscreen on its own nose is a fitting way to close this list, a character who should never need protection from itself taking care of business anyway. Draw a large round sun with short triangular rays spaced evenly around the edge, a simple face in the center, and one stick arm rubbing a small white dab onto the tip of its own nose.
A tiny dot of white gel pen or a light swirl line over the dab makes it read clearly as sunscreen rather than just a smudge on the face. Ink the sun’s round body and rays first, keeping the rays short and even all the way around, then the face, then the rubbing arm and nose dab last on top of the finished face.
If the rays look uneven or spiky, draw a faint pencil circle as a guide first and keep every ray the same short length pointing out from it.
One tip for today: leave the dab of sunscreen as plain white paper rather than coloring it in, the contrast against the ink reads instantly as a dab of cream.
You Will Need
- white gel pen (optional for the sunscreen dab)

What to Do Next
Pick one idea that made you smile first, since that is usually the one you will finish fastest, and start on plain or dot grid paper with just the fineliner. Add the lime green and hot pink once the ink is dry, then move on to the next character whenever you are ready for another laugh.
Frequently Asked Questions
What pens work best for a silly doodle like these?
A fine black fineliner for the outlines plus two bright markers in lime green and hot pink cover every idea here. Dual tip markers let you switch between fine detail and bolder fill without extra pens.
How do I make a doodle look funnier, not just simpler?
Exaggerate one thing at a time rather than everything at once: a wider mouth, a sharper tilt, or bigger shoes than the character needs. Subtle, realistic proportions read as calm, not silly, so push one feature past normal and leave the rest plain.
Do I need to sketch in pencil first?
Not for simple shapes, but a light pencil guide helps with trickier poses like the flying bean or the pole vaulting spoon. Erase it once the ink is dry so the final line stays clean and confident.
What if my character’s face looks the same every time?
Change one feature per drawing: eyebrow angle, mouth width or eye shape, since faces built from the same three or four marks naturally start to repeat. Try drawing the mouth first sometimes instead of the eyes to break the habit.
How do I keep a whole page of doodles from feeling cluttered?
Leave visible white space around each character rather than letting them touch or overlap. One or two colors per figure, used only on a prop or an accent, keeps the page readable even with several silly characters on it.
