These retro housewife paper dolls bring back the full skirts, pearls and sly grins of a 1950s kitchen, twenty-seven of them, each caught in her own funny moment. Print the set for handmade cards, gift tags and junk journal pages, and let the burnt roasts and jello molds do the talking for you.
Print on matte cardstock at actual size, then cut each doll out with a thin white edge left around her for a clean, finished look. The set stays in one sassy, pretty, kind mood from the first apron to the last bowling shirt, so any two dolls mix and match across a whole project.

Kitchen Catastrophes
Rolling her eyes with a smirk, this housewife holds up a thoroughly burnt roast in her cherry apron like she already knows what the family will say about dinner.
She makes a perfect card for anyone whose cooking went sideways this week, paired with a line like World’s Okayest Chef or Dinner Is an Adventure Tonight. Mount her on a foam dot over a kitchen-print background for a little lift off the page.
Batter flies everywhere as this flustered baker laughs through the mess, hand mixer still running, apron already dotted with splatters from a cake that got away from her.
Whisk in one hand and a blank recipe card in the other, this housewife frowns in genuine confusion, clearly trying to remember a dish she has made a hundred times before.
Write her a caption that pokes fun at a recipe gone wrong, something like Secret Ingredient: Panic, and tuck her onto a junk journal page full of real family recipe scraps and clippings.
Oven mitts still on, this housewife holds her casserole dish high with a smug, satisfied grin, the one dish of the week that actually turned out exactly right.
Gasping dramatically at the reading on her meat thermometer, this housewife holds a pot roast like the fate of the whole dinner party hangs on this one number.
Stand her up with a folded craft stick glued behind her skirt for a little pop-up card, perfect for a friend who panics over every holiday meal she hosts.
Party and Hosting
Proud but a little wobbly on her feet, this lady in gingham balances a towering, jiggling jello mold that looks moments away from toppling right off its plate.
Laughing mid-step in her cocktail dress and pearls, this hostess balances a full tray of deviled eggs like she has done it a hundred times, never spilling a drop.
She makes a cheerful card for a friend who hosts every holiday, paired with a line like Party Starts When I Walk In. Try her alongside the jello mold lady for a full retro buffet spread across a card front.
Holding her playing cards close to her chest with a sly, knowing grin, this lady looks ready to win big at her weekly bridge party and is not hiding her confidence one bit.
Arms thrown wide and beaming, this hostess in her long gown looks ready to pull every guest through the front door for the best party of the year.
Use her as the opening figure on a party invitation or the cover of a handmade card, since that open-armed pose reads as a welcome from across the room. She pairs beautifully with the bridge party lady for a card about ladies’ night.
Feet up and utterly blissful, this housewife sips a martini in fluffy slippers, clearly declaring the day officially over no matter what time the clock actually says.
Morning Chaos
Deadpan and unimpressed, this housewife in curlers and a quilted robe grips a coffee mug the size of her own head like it is the only thing keeping her upright.
She is perfect for a Monday Mood card or a gift tag for a friend who needs an honest laugh before her morning coffee kicks in. Her flat expression carries the whole joke, so keep the caption short and let her face do the work.
Filing her nails with obvious boredom, this lady sits under a giant bonnet hair dryer, clearly resigned to waiting out the whole appointment one slow stroke at a time.
Eyes wide with astonishment under her sun hat, this gardening lady holds up a tomato nearly the size of her own forearm, clearly stunned by what her own garden produced this year.
She anchors a garden-themed junk journal spread beautifully, especially alongside pressed leaves or seed packet scraps. For gardeners on your card list, this is the one that gets an actual laugh out loud.
Nose tilted up and eyes closed, this housewife sniffs the air with pure delight as she carries a pie straight out of the oven, still steaming at the edges.
Chores With Attitude
Sighing with real exasperation, this housewife wrestles a laundry basket piled so high with socks that half of them are already tumbling onto the floor behind her.
Write a line next to her like Sock Drawer Mystery Solved for a quick laugh on a card for anyone drowning in household chores. She fits naturally into a laundry room junk journal page too, tucked beside a scrap of real gingham fabric.
Pushing a vacuum in high heels with a flat, sassy stare, this housewife has a feather duster tucked in her belt and clearly has somewhere far more interesting to be.
Steam puffs dramatically off the iron as this housewife rolls her eyes at yet another wrinkled shirt, clearly over the whole business of ironing for the week.
She works well on a small gift tag for a friend who irons for everyone but herself. Try cutting a slit behind her shoulder and tucking her over the top edge of a card for a bit of dimension.
Rubber gloves on and mop bucket in hand, this housewife gives a sassy, knowing wink straight at the viewer, like scrubbing the floor is somehow still her idea of a good time.
Social Rounds
Eyes wide and eyebrows raised, this housewife twists the phone cord around her finger as she gossips into a wall phone, clearly hearing the juiciest news of the week.
She is made for a funny thinking-of-you card, with a caption like You Won’t Believe What I Heard tucked beside her. Pair her with the bridge party lady for a card about the whole neighborhood grapevine.
Delighted and practically glowing under her pillbox hat, this lady carries an armful of shopping bags home in her swing coat, clearly very pleased with the day’s finds.
Pins held carefully between her lips, this lady in cat-eye glasses studies a dress pattern with fierce determination, clearly set on getting every seam exactly right.
She belongs on a sewing-themed junk journal spread, right beside a scrap of real pattern tissue or a spare button. For readers who already keep a sewing themed junk journal, she anchors the page beautifully.
Chin lifted and posing like a magazine model, this woman in a pastel suit holds her hatbox out just so, clearly very aware of how good the whole outfit looks.
Out and About
Prim, sassy and perfectly put together in her pencil skirt, this lady walks a trim little poodle on a leash, nose slightly in the air like she owns the whole sidewalk.
Give her a short tag line like Strutting Through the Neighborhood for a quick birthday card. She would also suit a park drawing page, strolling past a duck pond or a bandstand scene.
Carefree and mid-spin, this housewife dances the jitterbug with her broom as her dance partner, apron flying, clearly having far more fun than the chore in front of her deserves.
Sunglasses pulled low and striking a confident pose, this lady in her polka-dot swimsuit and wide beach hat looks every bit ready for her close-up on the boardwalk.
She brightens a summer card with almost no extra text needed, just her pose and a cheerful Wish You Were Here. Keep her bold colors intact when printing for the strongest beach-day effect.
Dish towel slung over one shoulder, this housewife holds up a single sparkling clean plate like a trophy, triumphant over what was clearly a very large stack of dishes.
Cheering with her bowling ball held high, this lady in her bowling shirt looks thrilled over what was clearly a very good strike, team name stitched proudly across her back.
She closes out the set on a high note and pairs well with the jitterbug dancer for a card about girls’ night out. Both read as pure fun, perfect for a friend who never turns down a night with the group.

Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for these retro housewife paper dolls?
Matte cardstock works best, since it holds color well and cuts cleanly without curling. Avoid glossy photo paper, which can crack along the folds and makes the colors look too shiny for a vintage card.
What printer settings give the best colors?
Set the printer to its highest quality photo or cardstock setting and print at actual size, not scaled to fit the page. This keeps the saturated aqua, cherry red and mint tones true to the original art.
What is the easiest way to cut out the dolls neatly?
Small detail scissors give the most control around curved skirts and arms, especially on tight curves like curlers or a poodle leash. A craft knife helps with narrow gaps, such as the space between an arm and a hip.
How do I make a doll stand up or pop off the card?
Fold a small paper tab and glue it behind the feet so the doll stands upright on a flat surface. For cards, a foam adhesive dot behind the body lifts the doll slightly off the page for a light 3D effect.
Can these dolls be resized smaller for gift tags?
Yes, any doll in the set can be scaled down on a home printer or photocopier to fit a small gift tag. Keep the proportions locked when resizing so the face and outfit details stay sharp and readable.
