Table of Contents
This toy shop junk journal kit carries you straight into an old fashioned Christmas shop window, all rocking horses, porcelain dolls and tin soldiers with snow drifting past the glass. The set has 23 scene pages full of shelves, benches and wrapped parcels, 5 seamless background papers in matching toy shop patterns, and 5 lined writing pages for your own notes and memories.
Print on a heavier matte paper so the colour stays rich and the sheet holds up to folding and gluing. Choose your printer’s best photo or highest quality setting, and trim close to the edge so each page sits flush once it goes into the journal.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Counter And Window Pages
Rolls of wrapping paper lean against a worn wooden counter where a brass bell waits beside a teddy bear, ready for the next customer to wander in from the cold.
Tuck a ticket stub or a gift tag beside the rocking horse’s red saddle, or glue a tiny paper bow to its mane so the page becomes part of a wrapped present memory.
Leave a line underneath for the child’s name and the year the horse was given, so the page doubles as a small family record tucked inside the journal.
Pair this page with the vintage doll and teddy bear toile background from this set, using the pattern as a facing page or as a pocket lining tucked behind the shelf.
A common mistake is cramming too many soldiers onto one shelf until the page feels busy. Keep the row even and let the drum and bugle sit apart so each detail still reads clearly.
Snow falls past a dollhouse and a tin train set behind glass, with frost creeping along the edges of the pane and a warm glow spilling onto the street.
Workshop Pages
This page suits the journal keeper who loves process more than polish: a gift for someone who paints, builds or mends things with her own hands.
Spinning tops lean against a pouch of marbles and a wooden yo yo on an old wooden crate, the whole little pile looking ready to tumble off the edge.
Write a short answer to this on the page: which toy here would you have begged for as a child, the jester puppet, the striped ball, or something stranger on the shelf behind them.
Glue a tiny paper door or window flap onto the dollhouse front so it lifts open to reveal a hidden note, turning the page into a small pocket within the spread.
Inside that pocket, tuck a folded wish list or a line about a dollhouse from your own childhood, real or imagined, to keep near this page.
Sled And Carousel Pages
Sitting on a small wooden sled, a teddy bear in a knitted scarf waits patiently, as if the next customer might scoop up both at once.
Pair this page with the tin soldier and drum row background, using it as the facing sheet so the carousel’s little horses seem to spin right into the pattern beside them.
Give this five minute version a try when time is short: sketch just the ark and two animal pairs, then add the shelf and background wash in loose colour without fussing over detail.
Velvet curtains frame a small stage where marionettes hang from their strings, caught mid pose as though the next show is only a moment away.
Shop Life Pages
Try tea staining the edges of this page before gluing it in, so the tall shelves of dolls, drums and stuffed animals feel a little older than the rest of the journal.
A little girl in a warm coat presses her nose to the glass, watching the dollhouse and the falling snow, while candlelight glows softly from inside the shop.
Leave space near her for a line about the toy you once pressed your own face to glass for, whether you remember the shop or only the wanting.
A sleeping doll lies tucked under a small blanket in a wicker pram, a sprig of holly resting against the hood as though just set there by a careful hand.
This page suits a reader who grew up sewing or mending her own toys, a nod to handmade things rather than the porcelain and tin found elsewhere in the shop.
Fireside Pages
A stuffed bear sits in a wooden rocking chair beside a drum and a pine bough, the whole corner looking like it has been waiting there for years.
Place this page beside the toy shop counter page from earlier in the set, so the brown paper and ribbon here read as the next step after a sale is rung up.
A kaleidoscope, a small music box and a glass snow globe sit together on a velvet cloth, catching the light as though just set down by a browsing customer.
See how other cozy Christmas junk journal ideas handle a quiet corner like this one, then let the hobby horse, kite and hoop lean together as though just set down for a moment.
Give the five minute version a go here too: paint just the airship and biplane shapes first, then add the counter and hanging strings once the main shapes have dried.
Curled between a porcelain doll and a spinning top, the shop cat naps through the afternoon, entirely unbothered by the bell over the door.
Background Papers
Small rocking horses alternate with stars across the sheet in a steady repeating pattern. Use it behind a framed photo, as a pocket lining, or as the cover of a handmade journal.
Rows of tiny tin soldiers march beside small drums across the page. Try it as a pocket lining, tucked behind the shelf scene earlier in this set, or as endpapers for the whole journal.
Even red and white stripes run the length of the page, echoing a classic toy box lid. Use it under a photo of wrapped gifts, as a cover, or behind a pocket of ribbon scraps.
Small spinning tops sit among scattered marble dots in a loose repeating scatter. Place it under a photo of childhood toys, as a pocket lining, or as a playful journal cover.
A toile style repeat pairs small porcelain dolls with seated teddy bears in a classic mirrored layout. Use it behind a photo of a favourite childhood toy, as a pocket lining, or as a soft journal cover.
Lined Writing Pages
A narrow band of tiny toy shop shelves runs along the top of the page, leaving the ruled lines below open for a gift list, a menu for Christmas Eve supper, or a letter to next year.
A small rocking horse sits in one corner of the page, leaving the ruled lines open for a note to a grandchild, a short memory of a favourite toy, or a wish list for the season.
A narrow column of tin soldiers stands along one side of the page, leaving the ruled lines free for a packing list, a recipe for hot cocoa, or a letter addressed to next Christmas.
A small brass bell and a length of curling ribbon sit along the top border, leaving the ruled lines below open for a shop visit memory, a gift list, or a short note to a loved one.
A jack in the box and a striped ball sit along the bottom edge of the page, leaving the ruled lines above open for a holiday to do list, a favourite carol, or a letter to next year.
What to Do Next
Print the pages you love most first, try a page or two from each section, then build the rest of your toy shop journal as the season goes on.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a toy shop junk journal kit?
A matte paper around 24 to 32 lb holds the watercolour look best without curling or showing through. Cardstock works too for cover pages, while lighter paper suits pages you plan to fold or tear.
What printer settings give the clearest colour?
Choose the highest quality or photo setting your printer offers, and select the matching paper type in the print dialog. This keeps the fine ink outlines crisp and stops the pastel colours from printing too pale.
What size should I print the pages?
Standard letter or A4 size suits most home printers and fits common journal covers without extra trimming. Trim a thin margin off each edge after printing so the page sits flush once glued in.
What do I use to color or glue the pages in?
The pages print in full colour already, so no coloring is needed unless you want to add extra shading with colored pencils. A glue stick works well for flat pages, while small scissors help with trimming and any pockets or folds.
Can I mix this kit with other Christmas journal pages?
Yes, this set pairs easily with other cozy holiday pages for a fuller journal. Try combining it with pages from a vintage Christmas junk journal set for more variety on your shelves.
