A mid century christmas junk journal gives the holiday a cleaner look: teak wood, starburst clocks, ceramic cone trees and glass bauble lamps instead of tinsel and clutter. This kit covers that whole mood in 34 pages: 24 scene pages full of retro holiday rooms and still lifes, 5 seamless background papers in atomic patterns, and 5 lined writing pages with mid century borders for your own notes.
Print the set on matte cardstock heavy enough to take glue without curling, with your printer set to its best or photo quality so the flat retro colors stay crisp. Trim each sheet to your journal size once it is dry, and keep a paper cutter nearby since most of these pages print best edge to edge.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Living Room Scenes
Pair this sideboard with the boomerang and pine sprig background paper from this set: tuck a strip of it behind the row of cone trees as a backsplash, or use it as the facing page.
The brass candle holder on the end gives you a bright spot to write a small date or initial beside, if you want each spread tied to a particular year of this journal.
Built entirely from colored glass triangles stacked into a tree shape, this one rewards a simple caption like your favorite ornament of the year, written right beside the glow.
The usual mistake with a mantel scene is cramming it edge to edge with tiny objects until the starburst clock gets lost. Keep the clock large and centered, and let the slim stockings hang in a simple row below it.
A candle or two and a sprig of greenery are plenty of extra detail; the empty wall space above the mantel is part of the design, not a gap to fill.
A tall silver tree stands at the center of a sunken living room, a color wheel lamp slowly washing it in shifting light beside a low sofa.
This page suits a reader who loves a dramatic room shot: leave space at the bottom edge to glue in a torn photo corner or a small printed quote about the holidays if you like that layered look.
A kidney shaped glass coffee table holds a bowl of spun glass ornaments in pink, mint and gold, with a folded magazine and a lit candle set beside it.
This page works well as a five minute version too: sketch only the house outline and the wreath color in first, then come back later for the snow and the windows once the glue has set on the facing page.
The sharp angled roofline is the whole point here, so keep the roof edge clean and let softer snowdrifts gather along the base of the house instead.
this modern angel is built entirely from simple cone and circle shapes, a halo made of thin gold rings floating just above a rounded head with rosy cheeks and bright eyes.
Living Room Scenes
Try pairing this page with the teal and red atomic diamond background from this set: the small reindeer shapes echo the diamond pattern nicely if you glue a strip of it as a shelf liner behind them.
Stand the reindeer in a short row from tallest to smallest so the painted shelf beneath them reads as a clear base rather than a cluttered line of separate toys.
A single gold starburst ornament hangs from a long needle pine branch stretched across the page, with two smaller glass balls swinging just beside it and soft light filling the space behind.
Place this one across from the sputnik star and dot background paper in this set and let the candle flames line up visually with the small painted dots behind them.
Two tall candles rise from the angular sputnik candelabra on a narrow teak table, a small dish of ornaments set beside the base for a touch of extra detail.
A plate of star shaped spritz cookies sits on a turquoise melamine tray, a small sugar bowl and a sprig of holly tucked beside the plate for color.
Living Room Scenes
Writers who like a soundtrack for their pages should glue a small record label cutout onto this one, right beside the stack of records on the cabinet.
A tiny tinsel tree stands on top of the hi-fi cabinet next to a record player arm resting mid song, the whole scene framed by a painted wall behind it.
The usual mistake with a cosy chair page is leaving it too empty; here a plaid throw, a pair of slippers and a small gift box fill the seat and floor so the page feels lived in rather than staged.
This is a quiet page, so let the whole sheet carry the scene: a wide picture window framed in thin teak trim, snowy pines outside and one bright cardinal perched at a feeder just beyond the glass.
Leave this one for a reader who loves still, wintry pages more than busy party scenes, and keep the colors inside the room muted so the cardinal stays the one warm note.
A cluster of round glass bauble lamps hangs in mint, pink and red above a small side table, their glow painted soft and warm against the wall behind them.
Give this page to a reader who collects quirky figurines for her own shelf: the ceramic Santa here has a geometric beard built from angular white shapes instead of soft cotton fluff.
Tuck a tiny printed tag reading a holiday wish right beside his boot, and let a row of books behind him carry the bookshelf setting without crowding the figure itself.
martini glasses rimmed with sugar sit beside a cheese tray and a small bowl of olives, the whole party table set against a softly painted wall for a page that suits a grown up holiday gathering.
Pair this mobile with a short window themed entry below it, something like the quiet of a snowy afternoon at home, written on the facing lined page.
Paper stars and snowflakes in gold and white turn slowly on strings in front of a tall window, with soft daylight and a hint of rooftops painted beyond the glass.
A simple nativity made from rounded wooden shapes stands on a teak shelf, three small figures and a tiny star suspended above them against a plain painted wall.
Writers putting together a gift journal for a sister or a friend should use this page early on, right where the list of presents to wrap still needs sorting.
A mid century sofa with round tufted cushions sits piled with wrapped gifts in bright paper, a single ribbon trailing onto the floor beside a painted rug.
A front walkway lined with glowing paper lanterns cuts through fresh snow toward a lit doorway, the whole path painted soft blue in the early evening light.
Keep this tree deliberately sparse: only gold and teal ornaments hang on it, spaced out rather than clustered, so each one stands out against the painted wall behind.
If you want a quick entry here, a single line about your favorite color combination for the season sits nicely along the base of the tree.
a pair of round ceramic owls wearing tiny Santa hats sit side by side on a windowsill, their big sparkly eyes and rosy cheeks giving the page its cheerful center.
This scene belongs on the page right before your shopping list, if this journal is tracking gifts for the season: a woman in a slim wool coat carries an armful of parcels past a lit modern storefront window.
The storefront glass shows a glimpse of a display tree inside, while snow falls softly around her on the sidewalk outside.
Background Papers
Small boomerang shapes and pine sprigs repeat all over this pale aqua paper, perfect as a cover lining, tucked behind a photo corner, or cut into strips for pocket linings throughout the journal.
Teal and red atomic diamonds tile edge to edge on this one, a bold choice for a pocket front, a journal cover, or a backing sheet behind a favorite scene page you want to highlight.
Rows of small ceramic cone trees repeat across clean white paper, light enough to use under photos without competing with them, or as a quiet pocket lining behind a busier spread.
Sputnik shaped stars scatter across pale pink paper alongside tiny round dots, a lively option for a journal cover or for lining the inside of an envelope tucked into the pages.
Angular geometric snowflakes repeat across mint green paper, a crisp choice for backing a window page or lining a small pocket meant to hold a holiday card.
Lined Writing Pages
A small starburst clock sits in the top corner of this page, faint ruled lines running beneath it for a gift list, a short letter to next year, or notes on your favorite holiday tradition.
A row of small ceramic cone trees lines the bottom edge of this page, leaving the ruled lines above free for a holiday menu, a wrapping list, or a quick note to a friend.
Small boomerang shapes run down one side of this page in a narrow band, the ruled lines beside them open for a packing list, a party plan, or a letter you mean to send next year.
A thin band of sputnik style ornaments runs across the top of the page, ruled lines below ready for a cookie recipe, a shopping list, or notes about the year’s favorite gift.
A small teak shelf holding a single lit candle sits in one corner, the ruled lines beside it left open for a guest list, a thank you note, or a short wish for the season ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a mid century christmas junk journal?
Matte cardstock around 65 to 110 lb works best, since it takes glue without curling and keeps the flat retro colors looking crisp rather than glossy or washed out.
What printer settings give the cleanest atomic colors?
Set the printer to its best or photo quality and choose matte or plain paper in the print settings, which keeps the saturated reds, teals and golds from printing dull or streaky.
What size should I print these pages at?
Standard US letter or A4 suits most home printers and most junk journal covers, though you can scale the pages down at print time for a smaller pocket sized journal if you prefer.
What do I need to color or glue these pages?
A glue stick or thin double sided tape works well for attaching pages into a journal, plus a fine tip black pen if you want to add handwritten notes directly onto the scenes or lined pages.
Can I mix this kit with other Christmas junk journal pages?
Yes, these pages pair well with other retro or holiday sets, especially the retro Christmas junk journal pages or the Christmas junk journal pages for extra variety.
