Table of Contents
Each book diorama in this set opens like a tiny stage rising straight out of the pages, so the story seems to lift off the paper rather than sit flat on it. The set gathers twenty-one open books, storybooks, recipe books, an atlas, a Bible, a herbal and more, each one built around a reader, a baker, a gardener or a sailor caught in a small cosy moment, perfect for handmade cards and junk journal spreads for book lovers.
Print the sheets on matte cardstock at actual size, then cut around each book with a thin white edge left showing. That little border keeps the shape crisp once it is glued down, whether flat on a card front or raised on foam dots for extra depth.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Storybook Pages
Picture this one tucked under a willow tree, a young woman settled against the trunk with a book open on her knees and a picnic basket close by.
A far castle sits on the hill behind her, small and pale against the sky. It makes a gentle card for a friend who always has a novel on the go, or an anchor page for a summer reading journal.
An open recipe book holds a farmhouse kitchen where an elderly woman slides a cherry pie from the oven, flour dusting her apron.
Secateurs in hand, a young woman prunes climbing roses along a brick wall, her basket already half full of cut stems and petals.
A hidden garden door sits behind her, slightly ajar, as if it leads somewhere nobody has mapped yet. Print two copies, cut the rose wall from one, and raise it on foam dots over the other for a layered card front.
Fairy Tale Pages
Settled by the fire, an elderly woman works a spinning wheel in a cosy cottage room, wool piling softly at her feet as a dark wood presses close behind the window.
Quill in hand, a young woman writes by candlelight at a small attic desk, chimney pots and a pale moon rising behind the sloped window.
The scene suits a journal page for a poet friend or a granddaughter who keeps a diary. Mount it on kraft cardstock with a thin cream mat for a soft, bookish border.
An elderly couple sail a little painted boat right across the open pages of an atlas, a palm island waiting in the distance behind them.
Garden Party Pages
Towering cakes crowd the table as a young woman pours tea for guests who have not quite arrived yet, a topiary garden trimmed neatly behind her.
This one pairs well with the rose garden page for a matching set of cards for a gardening friend. Add a dot of gold glitter to the cake stands for a little extra sparkle by hand.
Robed and candlelit, an elderly woman sings in a small chapel choir, stained glass glowing behind the arched window.
Nature Journal Pages
Pencil in hand, a young woman sketches butterflies settled on wildflowers along a hillside, a valley of blooms spreading out behind her.
Scattering seed into a feeder, an elderly woman tends a flock of small finches just outside a frosted window, a snowy hedge standing behind the scene.
The small birds give you plenty to colour by hand, a dab of red or gold on each wing. Raise this one on foam dots beside the bird book page below for a matching winter pair.
Craft And Music Pages
Scissors mid-cut, a young woman works fabric at a sewing table beside a dress form, a little seaside town laid out behind the window.
Beside an open piano, an elderly couple take a slow turn around the small room, a garden party glimpsed through the window behind them.
Mount this page on a cream card base with a thin strip of lace along the bottom edge for a card to send a couple celebrating an anniversary.
Coffee cup in hand, a young woman pauses at a small cafe table, a street of striped awnings and a distant tower sketched behind her.
Faith Pages
Blank pages fall open to reveal the holy family resting quietly at the manger, shepherds gathered on a starry hill behind them.
This page works beautifully for a Christmas card or the opening spread of a faith based journal. Keep the colours soft and warm when you add any extra shading by hand.
Bundles of lavender and sage hang drying from a low beam as an elderly woman ties off another sprig, a herb garden stretching out behind her.
Leaning toward a brass telescope, a young woman studies the night sky, constellations charted faintly across the page behind her.
Stage And Field Pages
Lacing her pointe shoes before a tall mirror, an elderly former ballerina pauses, a theater stage glowing faintly behind her reflection.
Pair it with the piano waltz page for two cards that share a music and dance theme. A granddaughter who dances would love either one tucked into a card.
Settled on a low stool, a young woman milks a cow in a quiet barn, hay fields stretching out behind the open doors.
Lantern raised against the dusk, an elderly woman waits on the harbor wall, small ships drifting home across the water behind her.
Book open on her lap, a young woman reads by a crackling fire with her cat curled beside her, a snowy village twinkling behind the window.
This makes a warm closing card for the season, especially paired with the manger page for a small set of faith and firelight cards. Add a few dots of white gel pen snow by hand along the window for extra sparkle.
Flour dusted and sleeves rolled, an elderly couple knead dough together at a mill table, a windmill turning slowly behind the open door.
What to Do Next
Print the pages that suit the card or journal spread you have in mind, start with one or two to test the cutting, then build out the rest of the set at your own pace.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a book diorama?
Matte cardstock between 200 and 250 gsm works best, since it holds fine detail without curling. Avoid glossy photo paper, which can make the soft painted colours look harsh under craft glue.
What printer settings give the clearest result?
Print at actual size with the highest quality or photo setting your printer offers, and turn off any auto-scaling. This keeps the small details inside each open book sharp and easy to cut around.
How do I make a book diorama look three dimensional?
Print the same page twice, then cut the inner scene out of the second copy and raise it over the first using foam adhesive dots. This lifts the reader, the props and the background apart into gentle layers.
What card size suits these book dioramas?
A standard A2 or 5×7 inch card base suits most of these pages comfortably, with room left for a mat or a thin border of kraft or cream cardstock. Trim the diorama down slightly if your card base runs smaller.
Can these pages go into a junk journal instead of a card?
Yes, each one works well as a journal anchor page, especially paired with handwritten notes or a pocket tucked underneath. Many readers use them to open a themed spread, such as a reading log or a seasonal section.
