34 Cute Christmas Doodles to Draw on Gift Tags This Year

These cute Christmas doodles are sized for one job: filling a blank gift tag in a few minutes, not a full page. Every subject here has a small twist, a missing leg, a sleepy face, a crooked star, so the tag looks hand-drawn instead of printed.

Each idea splits into a simple version a child can manage and one small extra an adult adds on top. Grab fineliner pens and a couple of gel pens and work through the list in order, easiest first.

Gingerbread Man Missing One Leg

Start with a rounded body, two stubby arms out to the sides, and only one leg. A child draws the whole outline in fineliner first, keeping the head round and the body wide so it reads clearly at tag size.

The adult adds dot eyes, a curved smile, three buttons in red gel pen down the front, and a green icing zigzag on the one remaining leg. The common mistake is drawing the body too thin, so keep the outline soft and wide before any detail goes in.

Cocoa Mug With Marshmallow Eyes

Draw a simple trapezoid mug with a big curved handle, then stack three overlapping marshmallow humps on top. These food doodles work well for kids since every shape is round and forgiving.

An adult adds dot eyes and a small smile to one marshmallow, a few steam curls above the mug, and a red stripe plus a tiny green holly leaf on the side. The mug handle often gets drawn too small to read, so make it generous.

Sleepy Christmas Ornament

Draw one circle with a thick loop on top for the hook. A child can manage this in two shapes and still get a recognizable ornament.

The adult adds two closed curved eyes, a tiny row of zzz marks, and a stripe pattern around the middle filled in red and green. The hook often comes out too thin and vanishes at small size, so draw it as a bold, chunky loop from the start.

Round Holly Berry Trio

Draw three pointed oval leaves fanned out together, then three small circles nestled at their base for berries. Keep the leaf points uneven for a hand-drawn feel.

An adult tucks a tiny smiling face into the gap between the leaves, colors the berries solid red, and outlines the leaf edges in green gel pen. Making the leaves too symmetrical is the usual trap, so let a couple of points sit a bit crooked.

Candy Cane With a Face

Draw a simple hook shape with a wide rounded curve at the top, nothing fancy below it. This one is almost a single line, so it suits a first attempt well.

The adult adds a small face right at the curve, alternating red and green stripes down the length, and a tiny bow where the hook meets the straight part. Candy canes often come out too straight, so round that top curve generously before inking stripes.

Snowman Melting a Little

Stack two circles, a bigger one on the bottom, add dot eyes and a small triangle nose. These rounded shapes fit nicely among other winter doodles that rely on simple stacked circles.

An adult droops one stick arm, adds a small puddle line at the base, and colors a scarf in red with a mitten in green. The two circles often end up the same size, so make the bottom one clearly larger to hold the shape together.

Winking Christmas Pudding

Draw a dome shape sitting on a wider flat base, like a mushroom, with a small sprig poking out the top. The dome should stay smaller than the base.

The adult adds one winking eye, a small smile, drizzle lines across the dome in fineliner, and colors the sprig green with a red berry on top. A dome drawn too large compared to the base loses the pudding shape, so keep that proportion in mind.

Tiny Present With a Bow Face

Draw a simple square box, then an X of ribbon across the front meeting in the middle. Draw the ribbon as one continuous shape so the lines meet cleanly.

The adult tucks a tiny smiling face into the ribbon knot and fills alternating corners of the box in red and green gel pen. Ribbon lines that do not meet in the center is the usual hiccup, so sketch the crossing point first and build the ribbon around it.

Sleepy Star Topper

Draw a simple five point star, keeping the points a little rounded rather than sharp. Rounded points read friendlier at this small size.

The adult adds two closed sleepy eyes, a small smile, a tiny zzz beside the star, and a dot of red or green at the tip of each point. Sharp pointy stars can look a bit stern, so soften the tips slightly before adding the face.

Yawning Christmas Stocking

Draw a long curved sock shape with a rounded heel bump, keeping the heel soft rather than a sharp corner. Fit the whole stocking inside the tag space.

An adult adds a wide yawning mouth near the top opening, colors the cuff solid, and hangs a tiny ornament from the hook at the top. More Christmas doodles like this work well once the basic sock shape feels comfortable to draw.

Mitten With Snowflake Patch

Draw a simple mitten outline with a small thumb bump low near the wrist, not up near the fingers. Keep the overall shape rounded and plump.

The adult adds a tiny stitched patch with a small snowflake inside it, a peeking face in the cuff area, and colors the cuff in red or green. The thumb often gets placed too high, so keep it tucked low for a believable mitten shape.

Pinecone With Button Eyes

Draw an oval outline, then fill it with short overlapping scale lines, staggering them row to row rather than lining them up neatly.

An adult adds two button eyes and a small smile near the top, a tiny red bow at the base, and a green sprig resting beside it. Scale lines drawn too evenly in rows look mechanical, so vary the spacing and length for a natural texture.

Christmas Tree With Crooked Star

Draw one wide triangle for the tree and a small rectangle trunk underneath, keeping a few branch lines slightly uneven on purpose. These basic Christmas sketching ideas start the same way before the twist goes in.

The adult tops it with a star tilted to one side, gives the star a tiny worried face, and dots red and green ornaments across the branches. A perfectly symmetrical tree looks stiff, so nudge a branch or two off balance.

Santa Hat With Pom Pom Face

Draw a triangle hat shape with a curved brim along the bottom and one round pom pom at the tip. Make the pom pom larger than feels natural so it reads clearly.

An adult tucks a tiny smiling face into the pom pom, leaves the brim blank or lightly shaded, and fills the hat body solid red with a small fold line in green. A pom pom drawn too small disappears next to the hat, so size it up.

Snow Globe With a Tiny Scene

Draw one circle sitting on a small rectangle base. Inside the circle, sketch a single simple shape, a tiny tree silhouette works best for a child to manage.

The adult scatters a few snow dots inside the glass, colors the base red or green, and adds a thin curved highlight line along the top edge of the circle. Cramming too much detail inside the small circle is the usual problem, so stick to one shape.

Reindeer With One Antler

Draw an oval head with two round ears, then add one branching antler on one side and a small round bandage patch where the other would be.

An adult colors a tiny red nose, adds eyelash lines, draws stitches on the bandage patch, and wraps a green name tag around the neck. Antler branches often come out too even and stiff, so vary their lengths for a more natural look.

Sleepy Owl in a Scarf

Draw a round body, two mostly closed oval eyes, and a small triangle beak. Keeping the eyes thin and curved gives an instant sleepy look.

The adult wraps a striped scarf in alternating red and green around the neck, adds folded wing lines along the sides, and a small tuft of feathers on top of the head. Drawing the eyes wide and round makes the owl look alert instead of sleepy, so keep them narrow.

Christmas Cracker With Surprised Face

Draw a tube shape pinched inward tightly at both ends, like a wrapped candy. Pinching the ends in firmly is what makes the cracker shape read correctly.

An adult adds a surprised open mouth and wide eyes to the body, colors each twisted end in red or green, and scatters a few confetti dots flying from one side. Ends that are pinched too loosely just look like a plain tube, so draw that pinch with confidence.

Gingerbread House With a Missing Window

Draw a square house body topped with a triangle roof that overhangs slightly on both sides. Leave one window shape empty while the other gets a small cracked line.

The adult adds icing drip lines along the roof edge, a red door, and candy cane posts in green flanking the doorway. A flat roof with no overhang looks unfinished, so let the roofline extend a little past the walls on each side.

Bell With a Wobbly Clapper

Draw a bell shape that flares out wide at the bottom, with a loop on top. A narrow bottom loses the bell silhouette, so flare it generously.

An adult hangs a small crooked clapper inside the opening, adds a tiny face to the belly of the bell, ties a red ribbon through the top loop, and tucks a sprig of green holly beside it. Keeping the clapper slightly off center gives the wobbly, jingling feel.

Wrapped Present Stack

Draw three overlapping rectangles in clearly different sizes, stacked like a small pile. Varying the sizes is what sells the stacked look.

The adult gives each box its own ribbon pattern, one solid red, one solid green, one with small dots, and tucks a tiny tag with a peeking face behind the stack. Boxes drawn all the same size flatten the pile, so keep the size difference obvious.

Snowflake With a Smiling Center

Draw six lines crossing at a single center point, evenly spaced around the circle. Six arms give the classic snowflake look that four arms miss.

An adult adds a small smiling face right at the center point, a few short branch marks along each arm, and a dot of red or green gel pen at each tip. Stopping at four lines is the common shortcut, so take the extra moment to add all six.

Christmas Cookie Bitten at the Corner

Draw a round or star shaped cookie, then remove one corner with a rough, uneven scalloped line rather than a clean triangle cut.

The adult adds an icing zigzag across the surface, a few small chocolate chip dots, and sprinkles the bite edge with tiny crumb marks colored red and green. A bite mark drawn too neat looks like a slice, so keep that edge rough and irregular.

Penguin in a Scarf

Draw an oval body, a round head, and two small triangle feet. Curve the wings in close to the body instead of sticking them straight out.

An adult wraps a striped scarf around the neck trailing to one side, leaves a white belly patch blank, and adds a small blush dot of red to each cheek. Stiff straight-out wings are the usual misstep, so tuck them close against the body.

Christmas Light Bulb String

Draw a wavy wire line that dips at different heights, then hang three or four simple bulb shapes from it. Uneven dips make the string feel relaxed rather than rigid.

The adult fills the bulbs in alternating red and green, adds a small screw cap detail at the top of each, and gives one bulb a tiny sleepy face. Lining the bulbs up too evenly along a straight wire is the common mistake, so let the wire sag naturally between them.

Hot Chocolate Marshmallow Snowman

Draw a simple mug shape, then balance two small circles stacked on the rim to form a tiny marshmallow snowman. Keep the snowman small enough to sit comfortably on the rim.

An adult adds thin stick arms, dot eyes, a small carrot nose in red gel pen, and a few steam curls rising from the mug. A marshmallow snowman drawn too large for the rim looks like it is about to fall in, so scale it down.

Sleepy Christmas Mouse

Draw a round body, a long curling tail to one side, and two round ears on top of a small head. Let the tail curl generously rather than drawing it short and straight.

The adult adds a tiny knit hat colored red, a few whisker lines, closed sleepy eyes, and a small gift sack tucked under one paw colored green. A short stubby tail reads flat, so give it a full curl for personality.

Wreath With a Crooked Bow

Draw a wide band of small overlapping leaf scallops around a circle, keeping the band thick rather than a thin ring. A thin wreath disappears at tag size.

An adult adds a bow slightly off center at the bottom, dots red berries scattered between the leaves, and tucks a tiny smiling face into one section of greenery. Centering the bow perfectly is less charming than letting it sit a little crooked.

Ice Skate Pair

Draw a boot shape with a blade underneath, curving the front tip of the blade upward rather than keeping it flat. Then draw a smaller mirrored skate beside it.

The adult crosses laces up the front in red gel pen, adds a small pom pom at the top of the laces, and a thin green trim along the ankle cuff of each boot. A flat straight blade loses the skate shape, so curve that tip up clearly.

Christmas Candle With a Flame Face

Draw a simple cylinder for the candle body with a short wick, then a wide teardrop flame above it rather than a thin, narrow one.

An adult tucks a tiny smiling face inside the flame shape, adds a few wax drip lines down the side of the candle, and ties a red ribbon around the middle with a green sprig beside the base. A narrow stiff flame looks static, so widen the base of the teardrop for movement.

Sleigh Bell Cluster

Draw three small circles bunched together, each with its own loop on top, varying the sizes slightly rather than making them identical.

The adult adds crossing lines on each bell for a jingling texture, threads a ribbon through the loops colored in alternating red and green, and gives one bell a tiny smiling face. Bells drawn all the same size look stamped rather than drawn, so let them differ a little.

Angel Ornament With Wonky Halo

Draw a simple triangle gown shape with a round head on top and two small wing shapes to the sides, keeping the wings smaller than the gown.

An adult tilts a halo unevenly above the head, adds closed sleepy eyes and a small smile, and trims the gown with a thin red sash and a touch of green at the hem. Wings drawn too large overpower the gown, so keep them modest in size.

Christmas Tree Star Falling Off

Draw a simple triangle tree, then place the star tipped to one side at the top, as if it is slipping off the branch rather than sitting upright.

The adult adds a few small motion lines trailing behind the star, dots red and green ornaments across the tree, and gives the star a tiny worried face. A star drawn centered and upright does not read as falling, so the tilt needs to be obvious.

Sleepy Baby Reindeer Curled Up

Draw an oval body curled into a comma shape, head tucked down near the base, and two tiny antler nubs rather than full branching antlers.

An adult adds closed sleepy eyes, a small red blanket draped over the back, a hoof tucked under the chin, and a sprig of green holly resting beside the curled body. Legs drawn visible and stiff break the curled pose, so tuck them fully under the body.

What to Do Next

Pick one idea near the top of the list, the gingerbread man or the cocoa mug work well for a first attempt, and draw it straight onto a blank kraft tag. Keep the fineliner outline loose, let it dry, then add the red and green gel pen touches last.

Frequently Asked Questions

What paper works best for cute Christmas doodles on gift tags?

Plain kraft or white cardstock tags hold fineliner ink without bleeding and let gel pen sit on top cleanly. Avoid glossy tags, gel ink smears on them before it dries, and avoid very thin paper since fineliner can show through to the back.

Do I need to color in every doodle?

No, most of these designs stay mostly black fineliner with only small touches of red and green gel pen, a stripe, a dot, a nose. Full color fills take longer and are not needed for the design to read clearly at gift tag size.

How do I keep the fineliner lines from smudging under gel pen?

Let the fineliner dry fully before adding any gel pen, usually thirty seconds to a minute depending on the pen. Working left to right across a tag, rather than resting a hand back over fresh ink, also keeps lines crisp.

Can kids really draw these without tracing?

Yes, every idea starts from two or three basic shapes, circles, triangles, ovals, that a child can draw freehand. The adult step adds the small face or detail afterward, so the child’s simple shape stays visible underneath.

What if the doodle looks uneven, can I still use it as a gift tag?

Yes, a slightly wobbly line is part of the charm with cute Christmas doodles like these, they are meant to look hand-drawn rather than printed. Minor unevenness in a star point or a mitten thumb will not stop the tag from working.
