Anime Doodles: 14 Cute Kawaii Ideas for Beginners

anime doodles are one of the most joyful places to begin your drawing journey — and honestly, they’re so much more beginner-friendly than they look. Big expressive eyes, chubby little cheeks, and simple rounded shapes mean you can create something genuinely cute right from your very first sketch. No fancy supplies needed, no art degree required.

This list of 14 kawaii anime doodle ideas is here to be your friendly guide. Whether you’re filling a notebook margin or warming up your hand before a bigger project, each idea is chosen to build your confidence one tiny doodle at a time. So grab a pen, take a breath, and let’s make something adorable together.

Chibi Anime Character with Big Eyes

Chibi characters are honestly one of the most joyful things you can doodle. Their oversized heads, tiny bodies, and enormous sparkly eyes make them super forgiving for beginners. Even a slightly wobbly circle becomes adorable with a chibi face on it! Start with a big round head shape, then add a tiny oval body underneath. Simple as that.

Next, draw two large circles for the eyes — they should take up almost half the face. Add tiny shine dots inside each eye to make them pop. Meanwhile, keep the nose and mouth super small and simple. A little curved line for a smile is all you need. Additionally, two small circles on the cheeks create an instant blush effect that melts hearts every time.

For this doodle, a good set of fine-tip pens makes the linework feel crisp and satisfying. Try fine tip drawing pens for anime doodles to get started. You might also love exploring more techniques in our Pencil Drawing: Complete Beginner to Advanced Guide.

Sleeping Kirby Curled Up Softly

Sleeping Kirby is basically a circle with a peaceful little face — and that makes it perfect for beginners! Start with a soft, round circle shape. Don’t stress about making it perfect; slightly wobbly circles actually look extra cute and hand-drawn. Add two tiny curved lines for closed sleeping eyes, and a small oval mouth with little breath lines floating above.

Next, give Kirby two stubby little arms tucked in close, as if hugging himself in his sleep. A few gentle Z’s drifting upward add so much personality. Additionally, small rosy blush circles on each cheek give him that cozy, dreamy feeling. You can even add a tiny pillow underneath for extra sweetness!

Kawaii Anime Doodle Cat Face

A kawaii cat face is one of the most satisfying little doodles you can learn. Start with a slightly rounded square or circle for the face — either shape works beautifully. Then add two small triangular ears on top, keeping them simple and soft-edged. Already, you have a recognizable cat, and that feels amazing!

Next, add the signature kawaii features: two tiny dot eyes or small curved lines for a sleepy expression, a little cat nose shaped like a tiny triangle or heart, and a sweet curved smile. Whiskers are just three short lines on each side. Additionally, those classic blush marks under the eyes pull everything together and give your cat that irresistible kawaii charm.

However, the real magic happens when you experiment with expressions — try a surprised face, a winking face, or even a yawning kitty. Each variation feels like a small creative win. Tiny Blushing Anime Moon

A blushing anime moon is one of those doodles that looks impressive but takes only a few minutes to draw. Start with a classic crescent shape — just two overlapping circles where you erase the inner overlap. However, don’t overthink it; even a slightly uneven crescent looks wonderfully charming. The personality comes from the face you add next.

Draw two small dot eyes or sleepy curved lines near the center of the crescent. Add a tiny curved smile, then place two round blush circles on the chubby part of the moon. Meanwhile, a few small stars scattered around the moon make the whole composition feel magical and complete. Additionally, you can add little eyelashes for extra cuteness.

This doodle is wonderful practice for building simple character shapes with big personality. Smooth sketchbook paper really helps your pen glide nicely on round shapes like this. Round Anime Bunny with Blush

Round anime bunnies are so beginner-friendly it almost feels like cheating — in the best possible way! Start with a large soft circle for the body. Then draw a slightly smaller circle on top for the head, overlapping just a little. Two long oval ears sitting on top of the head instantly transform your circles into an adorable bunny. You’re already halfway there!

Next, add a sweet little face: two shiny oval eyes, a tiny triangle nose, and a small curved mouth. Blush circles on each cheek are absolutely essential for the kawaii bunny look. Additionally, two small stubby arms and a round fluffy tail make your bunny feel complete and full of personality. The rounder and chunkier, the cuter!

However, the most fun part is personalizing your bunny — give it a little bow, a flower, or even a tiny cup of tea to hold. These small details make doodles feel uniquely yours. Sleepy Anime Cloud Puffing Zzz

A sleepy anime cloud is one of the sweetest doodles for beginners to try. Clouds are made entirely of bumpy curves — which means wobbly lines are not just okay, they’re actually perfect! Draw a fluffy cloud shape using connected curved bumps along the top and a flatter line along the bottom. No ruler needed, no pressure. Just soft, relaxed curves.

Next, give your cloud a sleepy little face. Two curved lines for closed eyes work beautifully here. Add soft blush marks on each side and a tiny peaceful smile. Meanwhile, draw two or three Z’s floating upward from the cloud in different sizes — small, medium, large — to show it’s deeply, happily asleep. Additionally, a few small stars or dots around it add dreamlike magic.

This doodle is fantastic for filling journal pages, notebook corners, or greeting cards with warm, cozy energy. Using a brush pen adds lovely variation to your cloud’s line weight too. Chubby Anime Star with Sparkle

A chubby anime star is basically a regular star shape but rounder, squishier, and about ten times more lovable. Start with a five-pointed star, then soften every sharp point into a gentle rounded tip. The body should look almost puffy, like a little pillow floating in the sky. It really is that straightforward, and the result is absolutely delightful.

Next, add a happy little face right in the center. Two shiny eyes — maybe one winking! — and a small curved smile give your star so much personality. Blush marks are a must for that kawaii warmth. Additionally, draw small sparkle lines radiating outward from the star’s points to suggest it’s glowing and magical. Even four simple lines per point create a lovely shimmer effect.

However, the real charm comes from adding tiny details — a little crown, rosy cheeks, or mini stars orbiting around it. Each small choice makes your drawing feel personal and special. For crisp sparkle lines, fine liner pens for illustration are wonderful tools. Additionally, the fox’s fluffy tail is easier than it looks. Just draw a curved, bean-like shape swooping behind the body. From there, a sweet little face nestled where the cap meets the stem pulls everything together beautifully. No complicated angles needed!

Additionally, the mushroom cap is a great place to have fun with spots. Simple circles scattered across the dome add so much character with almost zero effort. Meanwhile, tiny leaf shapes or small flowers around the base give your mushroom a little world to live in. From there, two small flipper arms, a tiny beak, and big round eyes turn your egg into the cutest penguin imaginable. You’ll be smiling the whole time.

However, the scarf is where things get really fun. Drawing loosely looped fabric around your penguin’s neck adds instant coziness. Additionally, letting one end of the scarf drape downward gives the drawing lovely movement without any extra effort. Simple curved lines suggest the fabric’s texture beautifully. Therefore, even if your bumps aren’t perfectly even, your sheep will look charmingly fluffy. That’s the beauty of this character!

Additionally, the sleeping face is incredibly simple. Two curved lines for closed eyes and a tiny smile are all you need to communicate pure, peaceful contentment. Start with a simple cylinder shape for the cup and a curved handle on the side. From there, draw a tiny round head poking up from the rim, and suddenly you have the most charming little friend imaginable.

However, the details inside the cup are where things get magical. Adding small steam curls rising from the surface suggests warmth and coziness beautifully. Additionally, tiny decorative lines on the cup itself — stripes, dots, or little hearts — give your teacup loads of personality. Even one small pattern makes it feel finished. Frequently Asked Questions

What supplies do I need to start drawing anime doodles?

Additionally, colored markers or pencils can bring your kawaii anime doodles to life. Check out beginner-friendly options like Staedtler Fineliner Pens for smooth, easy lines.

Are anime doodles suitable for absolute beginners with no art experience?

Absolutely, yes! Anime doodles are actually one of the most beginner-friendly art styles around. Therefore, they make a wonderful starting point. Most kawaii designs are built from simple circles, ovals, and curved lines. Additionally, the style naturally embraces imperfection — slightly wobbly lines often add charm rather than looking like mistakes. Just start small and enjoy the process.

How do I draw the classic big anime eyes for my doodles?

Big anime eyes are easier than they look, which is great news! Start with a simple oval or a wide curved shape for the upper lid. Then add a smaller curved line below for the lower lash line. Meanwhile, fill most of the eye with a dark iris, leaving a small white highlight spot inside. That tiny white dot is the magic detail that makes anime eyes sparkle instantly.

What makes chibi anime characters different from regular anime drawings?

Chibi characters are the super-cute, super-simplified version of anime art. The key difference is proportion — chibi figures have very large heads compared to their small, stubby bodies. Additionally, features like hands and feet are often rounded and tiny. As a result, chibi anime doodles feel extra adorable and are also much easier for beginners to draw successfully from the very start.

How long does it take to get good at drawing anime doodles?

Progress really varies for everyone, however most beginners notice real improvement within just a few weeks of regular doodling. Even ten minutes of practice daily adds up surprisingly fast. Therefore, consistency matters more than long sessions. Additionally, focusing on one subject at a time — like a sleeping Kirby or a chibi face — helps you build specific skills with satisfying, visible results along the way.
