A jellyfish doodle is one of the kindest subjects you can hand your pen: a soft dome, a few trailing lines, and suddenly you have a character with a whole personality. These little drawings do not ask for anatomy or perspective, just a willingness to let the tentacles wobble wherever they land.
Below you will find twenty eight small scenes, from a balloon float with a happy face to a jellyfish nose to nose with a baby whale. Work through them in any order, keep your pen loose, and let the aqua and pink marker do most of the charm.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Start the whole set with a jellyfish floating upward like a balloon, bell pointing up and a tiny happy face tucked near the top. Draw the dome first as a rounded shape, slightly flattened at the bottom, then add two dot eyes and a small curved smile before any tentacles exist.
Let four or five tentacles drop from the base in loose wavy lines, none of them straight or parallel, so the whole thing feels light rather than stiff. If the lines come out too even, add one extra wiggle or a small loop partway down to break the pattern.
Fill the bell with your aqua marker leaving a thin white line near the fineliner edge, then add a single pink cheek dot on each side of the face. Swap the aqua for any cool marker you have, the float reads the same in teal or light blue.
Draw the dome a touch wider than feels natural and the tentacles a touch shorter: jellyfish doodles read as cuter when the body dominates the page rather than trailing off the bottom.

Give the next jellyfish a tiny parasol held up by one curled tentacle, as if it stepped out for a sunny afternoon. Sketch the bell first, then decide where the parasol sits before you draw any tentacles, since the holding tentacle needs to reach up and curl around the handle.
Draw the parasol as a simple scalloped dome on a thin stick, three or four scallops are plenty at this size. The other tentacles can hang loose and relaxed, giving the pose an easy, unbothered feel.
Color the parasol in alternating pink and white panels, and keep the jellyfish bell aqua so the two colors trade off rather than compete. If a curly parasol handle feels fiddly, draw it as a straight line instead, it still reads clearly.
Notice where the light would fall if this were a sunny beach day: a small pink highlight stripe along the top of the parasol dome suggests sun without any real shading.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, White
Move into motion with a jellyfish mid dance, tentacles swirling out in loose spirals around the body. Draw the bell tilted slightly to one side rather than perfectly centered, which instantly suggests movement before a single tentacle appears.
Add the tentacles as sweeping curved lines that cross over each other in places, something you would normally avoid but that works well here since crossing lines read as swirl and motion. Two or three lines can even trail off the edge of the dancing pose to suggest more motion than you drew.
Keep the face simple, closed happy eyes and a small open mouth work well for a dancer caught having fun. Color the bell in pink this time for variety, with aqua used only on alternating tentacle tips.
If straight confident curves feel hard to control, draw the tentacle swirl lightly in pencil first, then ink over the best version and erase the rest once dry.
Palette: Bubblegum Pink, Aqua Blue, Ink Black
Tilt the whole bell a few degrees off center before you ink it, a straight-up jellyfish never looks like it is dancing no matter how wild the tentacles get.
Settle things down with a sleepy jellyfish drifting under a crescent moon, eyes closed and tentacles hanging soft and still. Think about where the moon sits in the frame before you draw the jellyfish, since the moon’s light source decides which side of the bell gets the pink glow highlight.
Draw the crescent moon first, up in a corner, then place the drifting jellyfish below and slightly off to the opposite side so the two shapes balance each other. Keep the tentacles drooping gently rather than wavy, since a sleeping jellyfish has no energy for a wiggle.
Shade one side of the bell closest to the moon with a light pink wash and leave the far side plain aqua, a small trick that makes the whole scene feel lit rather than flat. If markers bleed on your paper, swap to colored pencil for just this soft moonlit side.
Add two or three tiny stars scattered near the moon to fill the empty sky without adding any real complexity.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Pale Yellow
Carry the gentle mood forward with a jellyfish glowing like a nightlight beside a sleepy fish tucked in nearby. Draw the jellyfish bell with a soft glow outline, a second faint line just outside the fineliner edge, then color only that thin ring in pale pink to suggest light spilling out.
Place the sleepy fish close by with closed eyes and a small zzz above its head, drawn smaller than the jellyfish so it reads as the one being lit rather than the main subject. Keep both characters round and soft, no sharp fins or spikes anywhere in this scene.
Fill the jellyfish bell in aqua as usual but leave the glow ring white or very pale pink, since a fully colored glow ring loses the lit effect. Dry brush a tiny bit of pink marker around the glow edge if you want it softer, dabbing rather than stroking.
This is the one where perspective and light matter most: keep the glow consistent, meaning any highlight dots on nearby objects should sit on the side closest to the jellyfish, not the opposite side.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Pale Pink, Ink Black
Pair up two jellyfish holding tentacles and blushing, a sweet little moment that works well as a card doodle too. Draw both bells first, close together but not touching, one slightly smaller than the other for variety rather than identical twins.
Link them with one tentacle each, curled together in the middle like held hands, and let the remaining tentacles hang loose on the outer sides. Give both faces the same simple blush: two pink dots and a small closed-eye smile reads as shy and happy without needing more detail.
Color one jellyfish aqua and the other a paler version of the same blue, so they feel like a matched pair rather than two unrelated colors competing. If you want to check this blog’s other paired character ideas, the couple doodle ideas use the same held-hands trick with very different characters.
Keep the held tentacle shorter and tidier than the free ones, a neat little curl rather than a long wavy line, so it clearly reads as a deliberate hold.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Pale Aqua, Bubblegum Pink
Add some drama with a jellyfish swept away by a current, surprised face and tentacles streaming sideways instead of hanging down. Draw the bell tilted and slightly stretched toward one side, since a jellyfish caught in a current never keeps its calm round shape.
The surprised face is the whole joke here: wide round eyes, a small open o-shaped mouth, drawn bigger than your usual jellyfish face so the expression reads instantly even at doodle size. Stream every tentacle in the same direction, long sweeping lines with a slight upward flick at the tips to suggest speed.
Add two or three short curved lines around the jellyfish to suggest the current itself, like loose commas trailing past the body. Color the bell aqua as usual but keep the current lines uncolored, plain ink reads as motion better than colored motion lines.
If the stretched bell shape looks odd, draw a normal round jellyfish first in pencil, then stretch just the outline toward one side before inking.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Ink Black, Bubblegum Pink
Take the mood deeper with a jellyfish holding a tiny lantern in the dark sea, a nice contrast piece after the lighter scenes so far. Fill most of the background with a dark ink wash or heavy fineliner crosshatching this time, leaving the jellyfish and its lantern light as the only bright spots.
Draw the jellyfish first in plain outline, then add a small round lantern held by one curled tentacle, a simple oval shape with a short handle on top. Leave a clear uncolored halo around the lantern before you darken the background, so the glow has somewhere to sit.
Color the lantern pale yellow or leave it white, and keep the jellyfish itself mostly uncolored too, just a thin aqua outline, since too much color competes with the deep dark setting. If a full dark background feels like too much ink, shade only the corners and leave the center lighter.
This is the darkest scene in the set, so place it a few pages away from the other nighttime ideas to keep your sketchbook feeling varied as you flip through it.
You Will Need
- dark ink or black marker for the background wash
Palette: Ink Black, Pale Yellow, Aqua Blue
Lighten the mood again with a small fish bouncing on a jellyfish like a trampoline, one of the funnier scenes in the set. Draw the jellyfish bell wide and slightly flattened on top, almost like a dome rather than a sphere, since it needs to read clearly as a bouncing surface.
Place the small fish above the bell mid bounce, body curved and tail flicked up, with a motion line or two beneath it to show it just left the surface. Keep the fish simple, an oval body, a triangle tail, two small fins, no scales or detail needed at this size.
Give the jellyfish a cheerful flat-line smile rather than a full open mouth, since it is meant to look pleased about being used as furniture. Color the fish in pink and the jellyfish in aqua so the two characters stay visually separate and easy to read.
Draw the fish a touch larger than feels proportionate, since a tiny fish on a jellyfish reads as fussy while a slightly oversized one reads as a clear, funny bounce.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Ink Black
Give one jellyfish a gymnast’s flair, twirling a long ribbon with one tentacle the way rhythmic gymnasts do. Draw the bell in a slight arch or lean, since a gymnast mid twirl never stands perfectly straight, then add the twirling tentacle reaching out and up holding the ribbon’s end.
The ribbon itself is the fun part: one continuous wavy line looping back on itself two or three times, drawn slowly rather than fast so the loops stay even. Keep the remaining tentacles trailing behind in soft curves to balance the outstretched gymnast arm.
Color the ribbon in pink and the jellyfish bell in aqua, keeping the ribbon as the only pink element so your eye follows its loops naturally around the page. If a smooth continuous ribbon line feels tricky, draw it lightly in pencil first and trace the cleanest path in ink.
Try this idea again later with the ribbon forming a heart loop or a spiral instead of a simple S curve, once the basic twirl feels comfortable.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink
Place the next jellyfish floating just over a seashell, pretending to be its lamp. Draw the seashell first, a simple fan or spiral shape sitting at the bottom of the frame, then position the jellyfish directly above it, bell pointing down slightly like a lampshade.
The joke lives in the pose: tentacles hang straight and close together rather than spreading wide, so the whole jellyfish silhouette reads more like a hanging lamp than a floating creature. A small closed-eye smile suggests it is enjoying the role.
Color the shell in pale pink with aqua detail lines following its ridges, and keep the jellyfish aqua so the two shapes read as one cozy little scene rather than two separate drawings. If shell ridges feel fussy, three or four simple curved lines are enough to suggest the fan shape.
Add one tiny bubble rising from the shell toward the jellyfish to connect the two shapes and fill the small gap between them.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Pale Pink, Ink Black
Dress one jellyfish up properly with a pearl necklace, drawn very elegant and a little proud of itself. Draw the bell first, then add a single looping necklace line around the base of the dome where the tentacles begin, dotting small round pearls evenly along it.
Keep the tentacles few and neat for this one, three or four rather than the usual cluster, since an elegant jellyfish reads better with a tidier silhouette. A raised eyebrow line above each eye and a small closed smile finish the proud expression.
Color the pearls white with a tiny aqua or pink dot highlight on each one, and keep the bell itself in a soft pink for contrast against the pale necklace. If evenly spacing the pearls by eye feels hard, mark faint pencil dots first at regular intervals before inking the circles over them.
Notice that the pearls sit slightly in front of the bell outline rather than on top of it, a small layering trick that makes the necklace look like it rests on the jellyfish rather than being drawn through it.
Palette: Bubblegum Pink, White, Aqua Blue
Give this jellyfish a drink, sipping something fizzy through a long curly straw. Draw the bell slightly tilted toward the glass, then add a small cup or coconut shape beside it filled with tiny circles to suggest bubbles, since the curly straw needs somewhere to start from.
The curly straw is the detail worth taking slowly: draw it as a tight spiral near the cup that straightens out into a gentle curve reaching up to the jellyfish’s mouth. One tentacle can wrap loosely around the cup for extra charm, holding it steady.
Color the drink in pink with aqua bubble dots inside it, and keep the jellyfish itself aqua so the drink’s pink pops against it clearly. If a tight spiral straw feels fiddly, a simple zigzag straw works just as well and still reads as curly enough.
Try the ten minute version with just the jellyfish and straw, no cup, then add the full drink and bubble dots when you have more time for the forty minute version.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Ink Black
Follow the drink with a simpler cousin: a jellyfish blowing one big round bubble, nothing else in the frame but the two shapes. Draw the bell first with cheeks slightly puffed, a small round mouth opening toward the bubble rather than a straight line smile.
The bubble itself should be one clean circle, drawn in a single confident stroke rather than built up from several short lines, since any wobble shows clearly on a shape this simple. Add one small curved highlight line inside the bubble near the top to suggest its round, shiny surface.
Leave the bubble uncolored or just the faintest pale aqua wash, since a fully colored bubble stops reading as transparent. Color the jellyfish bell in its usual aqua or try pink for variety, since this scene has few enough elements to experiment with color freely.
If the single confident circle stroke goes wrong, trace around a small coin or cap for a perfectly round bubble every time.
You Will Need
- a small round object to trace for the bubble, a coin or bottle cap
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Ink Black
Keep the fun going with a jellyfish jumping rope using its own tentacle, a nice little visual pun to work out on paper. Draw the bell first, slightly squashed and raised, since a jumping pose needs a bit of lift in the body shape itself.
Pick one long tentacle to become the rope, looping it up and over the body in one continuous arc, while the remaining tentacles tuck up underneath as if mid jump. A small motion line beneath the bell suggests the ground it just left.
Color the jump-rope tentacle a different shade from the rest, pink against an otherwise aqua body, so your eye can follow its looping path clearly. If the big looping arc feels hard to place, draw the bell and remaining tentacles first, then add the rope tentacle last once you can see how much space it has to loop through.
Give the face a determined scrunched expression rather than a relaxed smile, since it sells the effort of the jump far more than a calm face would.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Ink Black
Soften the energy with a baby jellyfish holding its mom’s tentacle, a small gentle scene that pairs well with the earlier blushing pair. Draw the mom jellyfish larger and slightly behind, then the baby smaller and a step ahead, since a leading baby reads as more playful than one trailing behind.
Connect the two with one tentacle from each, held together in a simple curl between them, exactly like the earlier blushing pair but at two different sizes this time. Give the baby bigger eyes relative to its body, a classic trick that instantly reads as young.
Color the mom in a deeper aqua and the baby in a paler, almost white-aqua version, so size and color both support the parent and child read. If you enjoy this kind of pairing, the animal doodle painting ideas list has more small family moments worth trying across other creatures.
Keep the baby’s tentacles short and stubby rather than long and wavy, which reinforces the sense of a smaller, younger creature without any extra drawing.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Pale Aqua, Bubblegum Pink
Trap one jellyfish in a glass jar for a scene with real attitude, peeking out looking thoroughly unimpressed. Draw the jar first as a simple cylinder with a lid, leaving enough room inside for the jellyfish bell to nearly fill it, since a cramped jar reads funnier than a spacious one.
Give the jellyfish a flat, half-lidded expression, straight line eyes and a small flat mouth, the opposite of the usual cheerful face used elsewhere in this set. Let one or two tentacles press against the glass rather than hanging freely, to sell the cramped feeling.
Draw two short curved lines on the jar’s surface to suggest glass shine, keeping them uncolored against an otherwise aqua jellyfish fill. If a perfectly round jar lid feels fiddly freehand, trace a coin or small cap for a clean curve.
This is a good one to repeat later with a different unimpressed expression each time, since the jar and pose stay the same while the face alone carries all the personality.
You Will Need
- a small round object to trace for the jar lid
Palette: Aqua Blue, Ink Black, White
Send one jellyfish drifting up into the sky among the clouds, looking thoroughly confused about how it got there. Draw two or three simple puffy clouds first, scattered loosely across the top of the frame, then add the jellyfish floating among them lower down.
The confused expression needs slightly crossed or asymmetrical eyes and a small wavy line mouth, a deliberately odd face compared to the calmer expressions used elsewhere in this set. Let the tentacles droop a little lower than usual, since confusion reads as a touch less energetic than the happy floats earlier on.
Color the clouds pale and leave most of them white, and keep the jellyfish in its usual aqua so it stays the clear focus against the sky. If you enjoy sky scenes like this one, the cloud doodle ideas are full of other characters finding their way among clouds.
Try this scene again later with a small flock of birds reacting to the floating jellyfish, once the basic confused pose feels comfortable to draw.
Palette: Aqua Blue, White, Pale Blue
Bring back some humor with a jellyfish wearing a little snorkel, just in case, despite already living underwater. Draw the bell first, then add a simple snorkel strap looping around the top of the dome with the tube curving up and over to one side.
Keep the snorkel mask itself small and round, sitting where a face would be on a person, even though the jellyfish’s actual eyes can peek out just above or beside it for the joke to land. A small confident smile sells the unnecessary caution nicely.
Color the snorkel gear in pink against the jellyfish’s aqua body, so the accessory stands out clearly as a separate, deliberately silly addition. If the strap looks awkward wrapping around a round bell, draw it as a simple curved band rather than trying to show it going fully around the back.
Add one small bubble near the snorkel tube’s opening to suggest it is, pointlessly, actually in use.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Ink Black
Draw one jellyfish making a heart shape with two of its own tentacles, a simple sweet image that works well for cards too. Start with the bell, then pick two tentacles nearest the center and curve them up and together so their tips meet in a point, forming the bottom of the heart.
The remaining tentacles can hang loose on either side, giving the heart shape room to be the clear focal point rather than getting lost among the others. A small closed-eye happy face completes the sweet, simple mood.
Color the heart-making tentacles pink while the rest stay aqua, a clear color split that draws the eye straight to the gesture. If getting both curved tentacle lines symmetrical feels tricky, draw one side, trace it lightly in reverse for the other, then finish both in ink freehand.
This pairs naturally with Valentine themed pages if you keep a sketchbook for the season, since the gesture reads clearly even at a very small size.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink
Shift the mood with a sulking jellyfish, every tentacle drooping low in an unmistakable grump. Draw the bell slightly squashed and tilted down at the front, since posture carries most of the sulk before the face even gets involved.
Every tentacle hangs straight down with no wave or wiggle at all, flat and limp, the complete opposite of the bouncy floats used in earlier ideas. A small downturned mouth and furrowed brow lines above each eye finish the expression clearly.
Color the bell in a slightly deeper, flatter aqua than usual, since even a small shift toward a duller shade supports the grumpy mood. If you want an even stronger sulk, add one small storm cloud doodle hovering just above the bell.
Try the quick ten minute version with just the drooping tentacles and flat mouth, then spend extra time on the brow lines and cloud detail for the fuller forty minute version.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Ink Black, Grey
Lift the mood back up with a jellyfish glowing in rainbow colors at an underwater party, the most colorful piece in the whole set. Draw the bell and tentacles first in plain outline, then divide the bell into three or four loose horizontal bands instead of coloring it as one flat shape.
Color each band a different shade, aqua, pink, and one extra color like soft yellow or lilac if you have it, blending the edges slightly where the markers meet for a gentler transition. Add a few tiny confetti dots or small bubble shapes scattered around the jellyfish to complete the party feeling.
Keep the face simple and happy despite all the color, since a busy face on top of a busy body reads as cluttered rather than festive. If blending marker bands feels tricky, leave a thin white gap between each color instead of trying to merge them.
Repeat this jellyfish later with different color combinations each time, since the rainbow banding technique works with almost any palette you have on hand.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Soft Yellow, Lilac
Return to something quieter with a jellyfish napping, a starfish tucked beneath it as a pillow. Draw the starfish first, flat on the bottom of the frame, a simple five pointed shape with rounded tips rather than sharp ones.
Place the jellyfish resting on top with its bell slightly flattened against the starfish shape and eyes closed, tentacles curled in gently rather than hanging straight, since a sleeping pose gathers in rather than spreads out. A small zzz above the bell confirms the nap.
Color the starfish pink and the jellyfish aqua, keeping the two shapes visually distinct even though they overlap slightly where the jellyfish rests. If overlapping the two shapes feels confusing, draw the starfish complete first, then draw the jellyfish’s outline stopping wherever it would cover the starfish underneath.
This is a gentle one to end a page on, since the soft pose and closed eyes slow the energy down nicely after the brighter party scene before it.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Ink Black
Bring one jellyfish up to the surface wearing a sun visor, clearly enjoying a spot of sunbathing. Draw the bell first, slightly flattened on top since it is floating right at the surface, then add a simple curved visor band sitting just above the eyes like a little cap brim.
Keep the tentacles relaxed and spread wide below the bell, suggesting it is floating on its back rather than drifting upright, with eyes closed and a small content smile. Small wavy lines beneath the bell suggest the water surface it rests on.
Color the visor pink against the aqua bell, and leave the water lines uncolored so they stay a light suggestion rather than a heavy background detail. If drawing the visor at the correct curve feels awkward, sketch it lightly first following the curve of the bell itself before inking over it.
If this is your first time drawing a character floating on their back rather than upright, widen the tentacle spread more than usual, since that spread is what reads as reclining rather than standing.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Pale Blue
Send one jellyfish out for the day carrying a small seashell purse, held by one curled tentacle like a handbag. Draw the bell first, then design the purse as a simple rounded shell shape with a thin strap, deciding its size relative to the jellyfish before you draw the holding tentacle.
Curl one tentacle up through the purse strap so it reads clearly as carried rather than simply floating nearby, while the remaining tentacles trail loose and relaxed underneath. A small confident expression, chin slightly raised, finishes the look.
Color the purse in pink with a few short aqua lines following its natural shell ridges, keeping the jellyfish body itself in a slightly paler aqua so the purse stands out as the accessory it is meant to be. If the strap and curled tentacle look tangled, simplify to a single clean loop rather than several overlapping lines.
Try this jellyfish again later carrying a different small object, a tiny tote or basket shape works just as well once the carrying pose feels natural.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Bubblegum Pink, Ink Black
Put one jellyfish right on top of a curling wave, surfing it the way a confident little character would. Draw the wave first, a simple curling shape with the top edge rolling over slightly, since the jellyfish’s pose depends on where that curl sits.
Place the jellyfish on the wave’s face with its bell leaning into the curve and tentacles streaming out behind it rather than hanging straight down, since motion at speed pulls them backward. A determined squint rather than a wide-eyed look sells the confidence of the pose.
Color the wave in two shades of aqua, a darker shade for the body of the wave and a lighter foam-white edge along the curling top, keeping the jellyfish itself in pink for contrast against all that blue. If the wave curl looks flat, add two or three short white foam lines along its top edge to suggest the roll.
This is a fun one to pair with the ocean doodles ideas if you want more wave and current tricks for other sea creature pages.
Palette: Aqua Blue, Pale Aqua, Bubblegum Pink
Bring in a new character for one of the final ideas: a jellyfish nose to nose with a curious baby whale, both drawn at a similarly small, round scale. Draw the whale first as a simple rounded body with a small tail flick and a friendly round eye, positioned facing the jellyfish directly.
Place the jellyfish close enough that its bell nearly touches the whale’s snout, both leaning in slightly toward each other to sell the curious, nose to nose moment. Keep the whale’s features minimal, one eye, a small smile line, and a simple fluke, since too much whale detail unbalances the pairing.
Color the whale in a soft grey-blue and the jellyfish in its usual aqua or pink, keeping enough contrast between the two so neither shape gets lost against the other. If an accurate whale shape feels daunting, round everything off generously, a chubby rounded whale fits this doodle style far better than a realistic one.
For more creature pairings at this same easy scale, the animal doodle painting ideas list is worth a look.
Palette: Grey Blue, Aqua Blue, Ink Black
Close the set with the shyest jellyfish of all, blushing pink from top to bottom rather than just a small cheek dot. Draw the bell first in its usual round shape, then decide this is the one piece where the whole body, not just the face, carries the blush.
Color the entire bell in a gradual pink wash, slightly deeper near the top and lighter toward the bottom, rather than one flat fill, so the blush feels like it spreads rather than sits as a solid block. Keep the tentacles mostly uncolored or just the palest pink, so the deep blush stays concentrated where it reads clearest.
Give the face small shy eyes looking slightly off to one side rather than straight ahead, with a tiny closed mouth, since a direct gaze reads as confident rather than bashful. If blending a gradual pink wash feels tricky with markers, layer two light passes rather than one heavy one, letting each dry before the next.
End today’s page here: a full-body blush is a simple idea with a strong payoff, a good one to practice your color blending on before moving to a busier scene next time.

What to Do Next
Pick one jellyfish from this list, the balloon float or the big bubble are the kindest places to start, and give it ten minutes with your fineliner on smooth paper. Once the shapes feel easy, work through a few more and let the aqua and pink markers tie the whole page together.
Frequently Asked Questions
What pens work best for a jellyfish doodle?
A black fineliner for the outline paired with aqua and pink alcohol markers for fills works best. The fineliner keeps lines crisp, while markers add flat color fast without heavy shading or blending skills.
How do I make jellyfish tentacles look natural instead of stiff?
Vary the length, curve and spacing of each tentacle rather than drawing them identical and parallel. A mix of short curls and longer wavy lines reads as far more natural than evenly spaced straight lines.
Do I need to draw the jellyfish anatomically correct?
No, doodle jellyfish are simplified on purpose: a round or dome bell, a simple face, and a handful of loose tentacles. Accuracy matters far less than a clear, charming silhouette at this small scale.
What is the easiest jellyfish doodle for a first attempt?
The balloon float jellyfish with a happy face is the simplest starting point. It uses one round bell, a basic face, and a few loose tentacles with no extra props or background detail to manage.
How can I keep marker color from bleeding through the page?
Use smooth bristol or marker paper rather than thin sketchbook pages, and slip a scrap sheet underneath while coloring. Testing the marker on a paper offcut first also shows how much it will bleed before you commit.
