Table of Contents
This farmhouse junk journal kit brings the whole quiet world of a country house onto paper: a kitchen with open shelves, a red barn across a green meadow, a porch swing piled with patchwork pillows and all the small everyday comforts that go with them. Inside you get 20 scene pages, 4 seamless background papers and 5 lined writing pages, enough to fill a full journal without a single repeated subject.
Print everything on plain white or cream cardstock, somewhere around 160 to 200 gsm so the color stays put and the page does not curl when it meets glue. Set your printer to its best or photo quality for true color, then trim each sheet to the size of your journal before you start gluing, folding or writing.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Heart Of The Farmhouse Kitchen
Settle this scene across a two-page spread with the egg basket page facing it, so the whole kitchen reads as one corner of the house rather than two separate rooms.
Put the open shelves on the left page and let the sink and flowers anchor the right, with a jar of wooden spoons bridging the gutter between them.
Glue a dried stem of real grass or a pressed clover along the bottom edge of this page, right where the meadow meets the paper, so the journal carries a trace of an actual field.
The usual mistake here is leaving the swing floating with nothing around it, which makes the whole porch feel thin and empty once it is glued into a spread.
Keep the potted fern, the pillows and a slice of porch railing all in the frame together, so the swing reads as part of a real porch and not a cut-out shape on its own.
Tuck a small handwritten recipe card or a grocery list under the edge of the basket before you glue the page flat, so lifting the corner later reveals a note about breakfast plans.
Barnyard Mornings
Pair this page with the hens and eggs background paper right behind it, so the painted hens on the scene seem to wander straight into the pattern on the following sheet.
A single clean line can carry this whole page: write one sentence about laundry day or a childhood quilt directly onto the painted sky before the clothesline, where there is open space to hold the words.
Leave room near the bottom fence for a second short line if the first thought keeps going once the pen is moving.
If five minutes is all there is, this page works fine on its own: glue it straight onto a blank journal page, skip any pockets or folds, and let the pie and wildflowers do the whole job.
Picture this page for the reader who grew up visiting a grandparent’s farm, or simply loves the idea of one: a quiet grazing cow beside an old windmill says more about that feeling than any busy spread could.
Pantry And Porch Comforts
Tea stain just the bottom edge of this page before gluing it in, so the shelf looks like it has held jars through a few seasons already, and the paper takes on a soft worn line along the border.
Let the stain stay light enough that the jar labels and the wood grain still show clearly once it dries.
Write a short welcome note or the date a reader moved into a first home along the doorstep of this page, right where the painted mat sits below the wreath and the galvanized bucket.
A good match sits right in this set: pair the stove page with the quilt block lined page that follows later, writing a cold-weather memory on the lines while the stove and apples sit warm on the facing sheet.
Fold a small flap into the stone wall before gluing this page flat, wide enough to tuck in a pressed flower or a short note about spring.
Keep the fold along the straightest part of the wall so it sits neatly once closed, and the sheep and lamb stay fully visible above it.
Windows And Garden Days
Note the farmhouse check pattern paper waiting later in this set: trim a narrow strip of it and glue it along the bottom of this window page as a painted windowsill shelf.
A scarecrow, a watering can and rows of cabbages give plenty of room for small glued treasures: a seed packet, a garden glove sketch or a pressed leaf all sit naturally among the vegetable rows.
Leave a little open soil near the front of the bed for whichever treasure a reader chooses to add later.
Try a question under this one for the day’s entry: what small thing made the porch feel like home today, and did the dog notice before anyone else did.
Readers who love sunflower junk journal pages will find this one an easy companion, since both lean on the same warm, sun-worn farm feeling in their color and subject.
Hearth, Home And Barn Gear
A quick fix for the usual trouble with this page: if the barn door reads too flat once printed, glue a thin strip of the tiny barns pattern paper behind the open gap for a sense of depth.
Give this page to the quietest person receiving a gift journal, the one who notices small comforts first: a quilt folded at the foot of an iron bed and a worn rag rug say more than any busy page could.
Leave the lamp on the nightstand a little dim in tone, so the whole room feels like evening rather than midday.
Tear the top edge of this page by hand rather than cutting it, so the hay bale and the barn roofline above the goat get a soft, uneven border instead of a sharp factory edge.
Close out the scene pages with something plainly useful to write: a short kitchen chore list or tomorrow’s garden-to-table menu fits neatly along the edge of this sink and its scrubbed carrots.
Background Papers
Use this red and cream check as a cover wrap for the whole journal, a pocket lining behind the egg basket page, or a simple backdrop sheet under a tucked-in photograph of a real farmhouse visit.
Slip this behind the barn and windmill scene pages as a soft lining, cut it down for a journal pocket, or use a strip of it as a spine wrap where the cover folds closed.
Good under a photo of a garden harvest, as the inside lining of a seed packet pocket, or trimmed thin as a border strip glued along the spine of a handmade cover.
Fine as a pocket lining behind the chicken coop scene, a wrap for a small notebook cover, or a backing sheet for a photo taken on a real morning egg collecting round.
Lined Writing Pages
Use the lines for a short farm memory, a list of what grows well this season, or a note about the first time a reader visited a working barn of their own.
Good for a porch sitting list, a letter to next year about slowing down, or a short description of what the evening air smelled like on a particular visit.
Suits a breakfast menu, a shopping list for a farm stand visit, or a short note tucked in for whoever receives this page as part of a gift journal.
Hold a gift list, a family recipe passed down through a few hands, or a short line about the quilt that inspired this very page in the first place.
Fits a farm chore list, a short letter about a quiet afternoon, or a line of thanks for whoever first showed a reader what a real working farm felt like.
What to Do Next
Print the pages, trim them to size, and start with whichever scene feels most like home: the kitchen, the porch swing or the barn across the meadow all make a fine first page in a new farmhouse junk journal.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for these farmhouse junk journal pages?
Plain cardstock around 160 to 200 gsm works best, since it holds color well and resists curling once glue or tape goes on. Lighter paper still prints fine but may wrinkle a little when it meets wet adhesive.
What printer settings give the best color on these pages?
Set the printer to its best or photo quality setting on plain or matte photo paper for the richest, clearest color. Draft or standard settings tend to wash out the softer pastel shades in the barn and meadow pages.
What size should I print the pages for a standard journal?
Most junk journals suit a page trimmed to around 5 by 7 inches or A5, so print at full letter or A4 size first and trim down. Trimming after printing gives a cleaner edge than resizing in the print dialog.
Can I color or add to these farmhouse pages by hand?
Yes, a light wash of watercolor or a few colored pencil touches sit nicely over the printed scenes without overpowering them. Keep any added color soft and pastel so it matches the gentle palette already on the page.
What glue or tools work best for assembling the journal?
An acid free glue stick works well for flat pages, while a little washi tape suits pockets, flaps or folded corners. Small detail scissors make trimming curved edges and tiny tabs much easier than standard scissors.
