This dark alice in wonderland junk journal kit takes the familiar story into shadow: Alice in black lace instead of blue, a Cheshire grin that glows in the dark, a Queen of Hearts who rules from a throne of thorns. The set gives you 20 full scene pages, each one a different moment from this gothic Wonderland, then 4 seamless background papers and 5 lined writing pages to round out a complete little book.
Print everything on heavyweight paper, at least 200gsm if your printer can take it, so the ink stays rich and the page does not buckle when you glue it in. Use the best photo or highest quality setting your printer offers, since the deep blacks and candle glow need that extra ink density to look right. Trim each sheet to your journal size once it is dry and the pages are ready to bind, glue or stitch in.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Alice In The Dark Woods
Twisted black trees and a drifting fog frame Alice alone in her dark dress, more unsettled than frightened, somewhere past the edge of the story she thought she knew.
Give this one a second life before you glue it down: tear the top edge roughly by hand so the branches seem to reach past the paper itself, or stain that same edge with cold-brewed tea for a weathered, storm-soaked look.
Either technique suits the drooping black branches and the small glint of a pocket watch half buried in the leaves below Alice’s boots.
Pair this page with the black rose and key pattern paper later in the set: use the pattern as a facing page or trim a strip of it to frame this scene like a border, letting the two sheets read as one spread.
Five minutes is enough: glue this one in as is, no trimming, no tea stain, and let the hurried pocket watch and scattered leaves carry the whole page on their own.
Cat, Cards And Candlelight
Jot a single line beneath this one before it goes in the journal: something the cat might say, half riddle and half warning, in your own hand along the branch where he perches.
The usual mistake with a throne page like this is crowding it with guards and courtiers until the Queen disappears into the clutter.
Keep the court small: a wilting black rose at her feet, one card soldier in the shadows behind the throne, and a single candelabrum are enough to let her red and gold gown stay the obvious center of the page.
Tuck a real recipe card behind this page, something sweet and slightly strange like black rose tea or spiced honey cake, so the Mad Hatter’s table feels like it came from an actual kitchen.
Place this page facing the midnight tea party scene so the two tables seem to share one long candlelit spread running across both sheets.
Graveyards And Thorns
A hurrying White Rabbit checks his watch while tilted gravestones shaped like playing cards lean in the moonlight around him, ivy creeping over every edge.
This one asks a quiet question worth answering in the margin: what did Alice leave behind when she fell down the rabbit hole, and would she go back for it now.
The usual mistake here is painting the mushroom too small and losing the caterpillar in a crowd of smoke curls.
Keep the mushroom large and close, with the hookah smoke drifting upward in only two or three soft ribbons, so his heavy-lidded gaze stays the first thing the eye finds on the page.
This page suits a gift journal for the reader who always chooses the darker fairy tale over the gentle one, the one who wants her Wonderland with real thorns in it.
Looking Glass Interiors
Alice stands small against a hallway of towering locked doors, one tiny glowing key just out of reach on a table far above her.
Fold this page in half down the center before gluing only the back edge, so the cracked mirror opens like a small door inside the journal and the reflection seems to hide behind it.
Write the game rules you make up yourself along the border of this one: your own private Wonderland logic, scrawled small beside the chessboard tiles.
A tiny round door glows gold at the base of a dark spiral staircase, roots and ivy creeping over the stone around it, waiting for whoever is brave enough to knock.
Small Wonderland Relics
A cracked teacup, a wilted black rose, a scattering of playing cards and a stub of burned candle sit together on a dark velvet cloth like relics left behind after the party ended.
Tuck a torn strip of red ribbon behind this page before it goes in the journal, something that could have fallen from the crown itself, so the relic feels freshly abandoned rather than merely painted.
Place this relic page beside the White Queen’s chess chamber scene so the small golden key on the table seems to belong to the same locked door running through both sheets.
Glue a real written note behind this page, your own invitation to tea with someone you love, and let the torn gothic card on the front stand in for the envelope you never sent.
Background Papers
Small black roses and antique gold keys repeat in a quiet diagonal rhythm across burgundy and plum, suited to a journal cover, a divider between sections, or a backing sheet behind a favorite photo.
Scattered hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds in muted gold and burgundy tile the page evenly, ready to line a cover, back a pocket page, or sit behind a pressed flower under glassine.
A formal damask of candle flames and curling smoke in deep plum and antique gold suits a journal cover or a quiet page behind a ribbon-tied bundle of letters.
Fine spiderweb lace in dark thread spreads corner to corner over aged cream, a quiet choice under a photo or as the lining behind a heavier scene page.
Lined Writing Pages
A trail of thorned black roses twists down the left edge of this page, leaving the ruled lines free for a gift list, a midnight confession, or a letter written to next year’s self.
Small gilded playing cards rest in each corner while the center stays open for a party menu, a guest list for a strange tea party, or a few lines about the dream you just woke from.
A thin frame of antique keys and melting candles runs around the full border, leaving room inside for a locked-away secret, a wish, or a short line of your own Wonderland logic.
A narrow band of black lace trim runs down the right side of the sheet, well suited to a recipe for something sweet, a packing list for a trip underground, or a short diary entry.
Small corner sprays of dark moths and roses mark each corner of the page, leaving the center clear for a letter to the Queen, a confession to the Cat, or a plain list of tasks.
What to Do Next
Print the full set, let the ink dry completely, then arrange the twenty scenes in whatever order tells your own dark little story before gluing in the backgrounds and lined pages around them. For more in this vein, the gothic junk journal set and the gentler Alice in Wonderland junk journal pages both pair well with this one on the shelf.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for these dark Alice pages?
Choose a heavyweight matte paper, ideally 200gsm or heavier, so the deep blacks and candle glow do not bleed through or warp when printed. Matte finishes read as more painterly and less plastic than glossy photo paper, which suits the Victorian, moody feel of this set well.
What printer settings bring out the gothic colors properly?
Set your printer to its highest quality or best photo setting rather than draft or normal, since the burgundy, plum and antique gold tones need extra ink density to stay rich instead of looking washed out or grey.
What size should I print the pages at?
Standard junk journal sizes work well here: A5 for a compact book or A4 trimmed down to fit a smaller cover. Print a single test page first and measure it against your journal before running the full set of 29 sheets.
Do I need to color or ink anything myself?
No, every page prints fully finished in color, so there is nothing left to paint or shade. All you add by hand is your own writing on the lined pages or a short note tucked onto a scene page if you want one.
Can I mix these pages with a lighter Alice in Wonderland set?
Yes, pairing a few lighter pages in with this darker set can soften the mood without losing the gothic feel, especially if you keep the lighter pages to backgrounds or lined sheets rather than full scenes.
