Table of Contents
Wedding junk journal ideas usually start with a shoebox of ticket stubs and a blank notebook, and this kit gives that notebook something to hold onto. There are 24 scene pages that each show one moment or object from the day, from the ceremony arch to the last dance, then 5 seamless background pages for covers and spacer sheets, then 5 lined writing pages for the parts only words can carry.
Print the whole set on matte cardstock, somewhere around 65 to 110 lb so paint and ink do not show through, and set the printer to its best or highest quality photo setting. Trim each sheet to the trim size of your journal before gluing it in, and keep a straight edge handy for clean corners.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Ceremony Scenes
Rose covered arch stands over a grassy aisle scattered with petals, a pair of empty white chairs waiting at its base.
Tuck in a copy of the actual vows here, or a line or two copied out from memory, along with the date and the name of whoever officiated. A ribbon bookmark or a pressed flower from the bouquet sits well beside it too.
Pair this page with the Rings and Lily of the Valley Pattern a few pages on, using the background as a lining peeking out from behind this scene when both are glued near each other.
The repeat of tiny flowers ties the ceremony section together without repeating a single object twice.
A close pair of hands exchanging rings over a small cushion is easy to over-detail with visible fingers and nails. Keep hands loose and soft edged, let the rings and the cushion carry the focus instead.
Roses, lily of the valley and trailing ribbon gather into one bouquet resting on a lace handkerchief, with a few loose stems scattered beside it.
Who gets this page in a gift journal made for someone else. It suits a flower girl grown into an adult, or a parent who wants to remember the littlest part of the day without the whole ceremony.
Reception Table Pages
A chalkboard sign leaning against a flower urn announces names and a date, with a trailing ribbon tied at one corner.
The usual mistake on a cake page is painting it too clean and even, which flattens the whole sheet. Let the icing drip a little at the edges and add a crooked topper, it reads far more like a real cake.
Glue an actual place card here, or the menu from the meal if one was kept, right onto the painted table setting beneath it. A pressed petal from a centerpiece fits nicely in the corner too.
Low glass bowls of roses sit among tall tapered candles down the centre of a long table, their light reflected faintly on the lace cloth beneath.
Write the toast itself here if someone wrote one down, or just who gave it and what line got the biggest laugh. Even three words remembered years later says more than a photo alone.
An open guest book waits on a lace runner, a pen resting across its pages and a small vase of flowers beside it.
Couple Moments
Couple turning under a canopy of hanging string lights, her dress catching mid twirl, with a blurred ring of guests and chairs fading into the dusk behind them.
Give this page a few minutes only: a quick wash for the dance floor, a loose pair of figures, done before the paint has time to dry unevenly.
The couple leans out the window of a vintage car, tin cans and ribbon trailing from the back bumper, with a painted street or country road stretching behind them.
Mention which background page lines up here. Place it across from the Confetti and Ribbon Pattern a few pages ahead so the loose shapes on both sheets seem to drift into one another across the spread.
A question worth writing beside this one: what was said in the room in the last few minutes before the dress went on. Keep the answer short, a line or two is plenty.
Groom stands at the front of the aisle in a loosely painted suit, hands clasped, with rows of guests and garden greenery fading softly behind him.
Small Details
Two rings rest on a scrap of antique lace, with a scattering of tiny white flowers and a faded ribbon curling beside them.
Tea stain the edge of this page before gluing it in and the painted invitation underneath reads as part of the same aged paper, rather than sitting on top of it.
A row of smaller bouquets in matching ribbon lean against a windowsill, with a single hat pin and a loose curl of hair ribbon tucked beside them.
Fold the top corner of this page down before gluing it in, the way old photographs sometimes curl. It fits the small, private feel of this detail better than a flat edge would.
Write the destination here, however small or far, along with one thing packed that almost got forgotten. A ticket stub glued beside the painted case rounds it out nicely.
Pair this page with a Lined Writing Page from the back of this set, using one for the drafted note and the other, lined, page for the final copy sent out.
Background Papers
Small painted rings and sprigs of lily of the valley repeat edge to edge, in this set’s dusty rose and sage. Use it under a photo, as a lining behind the invitation page, or as a quiet cover sheet.
A soft lace texture fills the page corner to corner, echoing the table linens from the reception pages. Good for a photo backing, a cover sheet or behind the guest book page.
Loose confetti shapes and curls of ribbon scatter across the page in this set’s rose and cream. Works well behind the Confetti Send Off scene, as a cover sheet, or trimmed into a frame around a photo.
Climbing roses on a thin trellis line repeat across the sheet, echoing the ceremony arch. Use it under a bouquet photo, as a page lining, or as the first sheet inside the cover.
Soft stripes in this set’s muted tones run the length of the page, recalling a reception tent or marquee ceiling. Good behind a reception photo, as a divider sheet, or as a plain cover.
Lined Writing Pages
A corner spray of roses frames the top of this page. Use the lines for the order of the day, what time the car arrived, or a note about what ran late and did not matter at all.
A thin band of lily of the valley runs down one side of this page. Write the vows themselves here, or the single line that was hardest to get through without crying.
Tiny rings sit in each corner of this page. Use the lines for a guest list, a seating chart note, or who travelled the furthest to be there.
A full frame of small white flowers borders this page on all four sides. Write a letter to each other here, to be read on an anniversary years from now.
A single trailing ribbon curls along the bottom edge of this page. Use the lines for a menu, a gift list from the day, or one wish written for the year of marriage ahead.
What to Do Next
Print the pages in order, trim them to match your journal, and start gluing in the ceremony section first. For more on building the rest of the book, the Junk Journaling Handbook and the Vintage Junk Journal ideas both pair naturally with this set.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper should I print these wedding junk journal pages on?
Matte cardstock between 65 and 110 lb works best, heavy enough to hold paint colour without the back showing through once glued in, but still thin enough to fold a spine through if your journal is sewn or stitched.
What printer settings give the best colour?
Choose the highest quality or photo setting your printer offers, and matte or plain paper rather than glossy photo paper, so the soft watercolour washes print true instead of looking too saturated or shiny.
What size should I print the pages at?
Standard letter or A4 suits most handmade journals and trims down easily. If your journal runs smaller, shrink every page by the same percentage in your print dialog so the whole set still matches once trimmed.
Can I colour or decorate these pages further?
Yes, a light wash of watercolour pencil or a few drops of tea along the edge deepens the aged look, and a fine tip pen works well for adding dates or names directly onto the painted scenes.
How do I glue the pages into a handmade journal?
A glue stick keeps pages flat without wrinkling the paper, run it close to the edges and lightly in the centre. For heavier cardstock, a thin layer of craft glue along the spine edge holds better over time.
