A summer junk journal needs more than one kind of sunny day, and this set gives you 34 pages built around picnics, lemonade stands, lake docks and sunflower fields, so every sheet feels like a different afternoon. The kit runs 24 full scene pages first, then 5 seamless background patterns, then 5 lined writing pages, so you can flip straight to whichever kind you need.
Print the whole set on plain white or lightly cream cardstock, somewhere around 160 to 200gsm so the washes do not show through the back of the page. Set your printer to its best or photo quality setting for true color, then trim each sheet to your journal size with scissors or a paper trimmer before you glue anything in.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Picnic And Garden Pages
Glue in a pressed clover or a real grass blade once the page is dry, right along the edge of the blanket where it already looks like it belongs.
Pair this page with the lemon pattern background further on: use the pattern as a facing page so the stand looks like it is set up right in front of a wall of lemons.
The pitcher and the hand painted sign do the work of the scene, so keep the street behind it loose and quiet.
Tear the top edge of this page by hand instead of cutting it, so the line of sunflowers looks like it keeps going past the paper.
The usual mistake here is painting every tomato the same red: leave a few green and blushing, since that is what makes a garden row look real and not like a bowl of fruit.
Write the name of the rose variety, the date you cut them or who gave you the bunch along the basket handle in small letters.
Water And Shoreline Pages
This is the five minute version of a water page: one plank dock, one small rowboat tied at the end, and a wash of blue behind it, nothing more needed.
A good question for this page: what did the sand feel like underfoot that day, and who was lying on which towel.
Place this page across from the lake dock scene, so one spread holds the walk down to the water and the treat waiting at the end of it.
Keep the cart small and let the boardwalk planks carry most of the page, since that gives the stand somewhere real to stand.
Tea stain just the corner of this page before you paint, so the shells look like they washed up and dried there years ago.
Fold the top third of this page down before gluing it in, so the golden sky stays hidden until the page is turned.
Cut this page for a gift journal going to someone who sails or grew up near water, and leave the boat’s name blank so she can paint one in herself.
Market And Street Pages
Glue a real market receipt, a paper bag label or a small price tag onto the corner of this page once it is dry.
The usual mistake is painting the porch flat on: angle it slightly so the steps and railing give the page some depth instead of a straight wall of boards.
Write a short line about the view from a summer window you remember, right along the sill of this page.
Pairs well as the five minute version: one bicycle, one fence, one basket of flowers tied to the handlebars, done.
This small round table scene holds a cold drink, a folded newspaper, a pair of sunglasses and a saucer of lemon slices, set against a softly painted street with striped awnings drifting in the distance.
Tuck a real cafe napkin or a torn ticket stub under the glass once the page is dry.
Evening And Garden Pages
Tear the bottom edge of this page so the grass line looks uneven, the way a real lawn does at dusk.
String lights over a wooden patio table, with a pitcher, two glasses and a small bowl of berries set beneath them, and a warm fading sky painted across the whole background.
Leave a line of blank wall near the lights so you can write the date of the evening later.
Who is this page for in a gift journal: anyone who takes an afternoon nap outdoors every chance she gets, which makes it a quiet favorite to find halfway through the book.
Sparklers held up against a darkening sky, with a folding chair, a cooler and a half eaten watermelon slice scattered nearby, and a wash of deep blue dusk filling the rest of the page.
Place this across from the hammock page, so the spread holds two ways of sitting still on a long summer evening.
The usual mistake is crowding every fruit onto the cart: leave gaps between the crates so the eye has somewhere to rest.
Fruit And Garden Pages
A short prompt for the entry written beside this page: what did you eat outside this week, and who shared it with you.
Mint, basil and thyme growing in mismatched terracotta pots along a sunny windowsill, with a small pair of scissors and a loose cutting resting beside them, and a soft painted wall behind the whole row.
This one pairs nicely with any recipe you glue onto the facing lined page.
Background Papers
Use this lemon and umbrella pattern under a lemonade stand photo, as a full page background behind a pressed flower, or as the inside cover of the whole journal.
Set this watermelon pattern behind a summer snapshot, use it as a lining page for the journal cover, or let it stand alone as a cheerful divider between sections.
This red and cream gingham works well under a picnic photo, as a backdrop for a pressed clover, or as a plain divider page between the water scenes and the market scenes.
Place this sunflower pattern behind a garden photo, use it as a cover lining for the whole kit, or set it facing the sunflower field scene page for a matched spread.
Use this shell pattern under a beach photo, as a lining behind the lake dock page, or as a quiet closing page at the very end of the journal.
Lined Writing Pages
Use these ruled lines for a gift list from a summer market day, a short letter to next year about this season, or a list of flowers you want to grow.
Write a lemonade recipe here, a list of guests from a summer gathering, or a few lines about the hottest day of the season.
Fill these lines with a packing list for a day at the water, a tide table from a favorite beach, or a short letter to whoever you sat with on the sand.
Use this page for a picnic menu, a list of what went in the basket, or a note about who joined you under the tree that day.
Write a summer bucket list, a short recipe for something cold, or a line about the best thing you ate outdoors this week.
What to Do Next
Print the set, trim each page to size, and start gluing from the first picnic scene through to the last lined page so the whole summer sits together in one book. For more pages to mix in, the junk journaling handbook and the vintage junk journal set are both good next stops.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper should I use to print these summer junk journal pages?
Plain white or lightly cream cardstock around 160 to 200gsm works best, since it holds up to glue and handling without curling. Thinner paper is fine if you plan to back each page with something sturdier once it is glued into the journal.
What printer settings give the best color on these pages?
Choose your printer’s best or photo quality setting and let it use actual ink rather than a draft mode, since the soft washes need good coverage to look right. Borderless or full bleed printing keeps the painted background running right to the edge of the paper.
What size should I print the pages for a junk journal?
Standard junk journals usually run A5 or half letter size, so set your printer to that size or print at full letter and trim the pages down afterward with a paper trimmer. Keep all 34 pages the same size so the finished journal stacks and closes evenly.
Do I need to color or paint anything on these pages myself?
No, every page prints fully finished in color and is ready to cut and glue straight into your journal. You can still add handwriting, pressed flowers or small mementos on top once the page is dry and trimmed.
What glue works best for gluing these pages into a journal?
A standard acid free glue stick is the easiest choice and will not wrinkle the cardstock the way liquid glue can. Apply it in thin even strokes right to the edges of the page so corners do not lift once the journal is closed.
