21 Christmas Coloring Pages for Kids to Keep Little Hands Busy Until Santa Comes

Christmas coloring pages for kids fill this set with twenty-one simple holiday scenes made for little hands, from a snowman building a snowman to a puppy tangled in tree lights and a reindeer peeking into a bakery window.

Print the pages on plain white paper or light cardstock using the normal or best print quality setting so the bold black lines come out crisp, then trim the edges if a sheet is headed into a card or a frame.

Snowmen and Snow Fun

Suits the youngest colorers best, since the three round shapes and the tiny snowman-sized snowman leave plenty of room for a crayon to stay inside the lines.

Chunky crayons work best on this sheet, because the hill and the sled take up most of the space and leave little fine detail to catch on a marker tip.

Start with the scarves and hats in red or blue, then fill the sled last so the bright color sits right in the middle of the page.

Leave the snowballs themselves plain white and color only the ground around them, so the thrown snow seems to pop right off the page.

Santa and Friends

Once the coloring is done, trim around Santa and his list and glue the whole scene onto a folded piece of cardstock for an instant holiday card.

A child who likes drawing Santa’s beard and hat might enjoy trying a few more faces freehand, and the ideas in Christmas Doodles: 14 Beginner Ideas to Try This Season give some easy ones to copy.

Pair this one with the Santa Reading His List page so the set tells a tiny before-and-after story at the dinner table.

Common mistake here is coloring the cookie tray before the oven mitts, which forces a young colorer to rush the smaller shapes at the end and go outside the lines.

Fix is simple: color the oven mitts and apron first while patience is still high, then save the big open tray for last when little hands are ready to relax.

For a quick ten-minute version, skip the wrapping paper patterns entirely and let a child fill each present box with one solid color only.

Reindeer at the Bakery

While a child colors the window, ask what kind of treat the reindeer is hoping to see on the other side of the glass.

The question turns a quiet coloring moment into a short story, and most four to eight year olds will happily name three or four different treats before the page is finished.

Suits a child ready for more sections to fill, since the sleigh and stacked gifts offer extra shapes beyond a single reindeer, and an older sibling who wants to try freehand drawing can start with Christmas Sketching Ideas: 18 Cozy Beginner Drawings to Try.

Soft brown and tan crayons suit the baby reindeer best, since a lightly colored coat looks more realistic than one fully saturated in dark brown.

Begin at the ears and nose, then move outward to the body, finishing with the snow last so the background stays white or a very light blue.

Puppies and Pets in Lights

Color every light bulb a different bright shade and leave the string itself uncolored, so the lights look like they are actually glowing against the puppy’s fur.

Cut the finished kitten out along the bold outline and tape it to a window, where the light from outside makes the white paper areas glow a little.

It also works well glued flat onto a plain sheet of colored paper to turn into a simple frameable piece for a child’s bedroom wall.

Pair this page with Puppy Tangled In Tree Lights so the two dogs can sit side by side on a bedroom wall or in a holiday binder.

Usual mistake is coloring the stocking the same red as the kitten’s bow, which flattens the whole scene into one color block.

Fix is to pick two different shades, maybe green for the stocking and red for the bow, so the eye can tell the two shapes apart right away.

Christmas Trees and Ornaments

Short on time, color only the ornaments and the star on top and leave the rest of the tree as plain green crayon scribbled in fast; for a grown-up version of tree drawing later, 37 Merry Christmas Drawing Ideas Where the Words Are Part of the Picture has plenty to try.

Ask a child what flavor frosting the gingerbread man topper might be wearing, and whether the tree underneath smells like cinnamon or peppermint.

Questions like these keep small hands moving steadily across the page instead of losing interest halfway through all the icing details and tiny tree branches.

Suits a child who likes picking lots of different colors, since each present box on the stack can be a completely different shade without worrying about matching anything.

Fine-tip markers work well on the stocking’s small cuff details, while the fireplace bricks behind it are better suited to a wide crayon.

Start at the top cuff, move down through the stocking body, and finish with the bricks so the background does not distract from the main shape.

Woodland and Winter Animals

Color the owl’s feathers in two shades of brown in alternating rows, then leave the Santa hat a single solid red so it stands out clearly against the feathers.

Once colored, this page folds nicely into a small greeting card for a grandparent who likes bunnies, with the fort message written inside by a parent or an older sibling.

A child who enjoys bunny shapes might like trying a few quick pencil sketches next, and Christmas Drawing Ideas Pencil: 22 Cozy Beginner Sketches to Try has simple ones to copy.

Pair this page with Bunny Building A Snow Fort so the set ends with two winter animals enjoying the snow side by side.

What to Do Next

Print the full set, spread the pages across a table, and let a child pick a favorite scene to start with while the rest wait for another afternoon before Santa arrives.

Frequently Asked Questions

What paper works best for these pages?

Plain printer paper is fine for everyday coloring, but a slightly heavier cardstock around 60 to 90 pound holds up better to crayon pressing and marker bleed, and it survives being folded into a card or hung on a wall.

What printer settings give the clearest lines?

Choose the normal or best quality black and white or grayscale setting rather than draft mode, which can leave the bold outlines looking gray and broken. Letter or A4 paper both work since every page is designed to fit a standard sheet with no cropping.

What age group do these pages suit?

The bold outlines and large open spaces are sized for children roughly four to eight years old, with shapes big enough for a crayon or marker to stay inside without much frustration. Younger toddlers may need an adult to hold the paper steady while coloring.

What should a child color with?

Washable crayons and chunky colored pencils are the safest everyday choice for this age group, since the thick outlines leave plenty of room for a slightly shaky hand. Markers work too, but keep a sheet of scrap paper underneath to catch any bleed through.

What can be done with the finished pages?

Several pages in the set work well folded into cards, cut out for a garland, or taped to a window with the light shining through. A few of the page notes above point out exactly which ones suit that treatment best.
