Table of Contents
This valentines junk journal kit gives you 36 printable sheets built around one quiet, romantic theme: old letters, red roses, swans on still water, candlelit dinners and small tokens of affection. The set runs 25 full scene pages, then 5 seamless background patterns, then 6 lined writing pages, so you have everything from cover art to the pages where you actually write.
Print on matte cardstock heavy enough to take glue without curling, around 160 to 200 gsm. Set your printer to its best or photo quality so the washes stay soft instead of banding, and trim each sheet to your journal size once the ink is fully dry.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Letters and Keepsakes
Tuck a real ticket stub, a pressed flower or a photograph corner between the painted envelopes before you glue this page in, so the stack holds something of your own.
Pair this page with the hearts and keys pattern later in the set: use that background as a frame strip along one edge of this letter, so the two pages feel like they belong to the same box of keepsakes.
Small paper notes rolled and tied with thin ribbon sit beside a pair of old spectacles and a dried sprig of lavender, all resting on a lace doily painted across the page.
The usual mistake with a postcard page is leaving it too plain so it reads as an afterthought; give it a painted stamp, a postmark and a short line of handwriting to make it feel sent.
Good for the page you give to a reader who keeps one small object from every romance; write the story of that object in the lined pages later in this kit.
Roses and Flowers
A loose bouquet of deep red roses rests across a strip of antique lace, with scattered petals, a trailing ribbon and a small glass vase filling the corners of the page.
What question goes under this one: ask the journal keeper what small thing made her feel loved this week, and leave the lines of this page for that answer alone.
Climbing roses curl over a stone archway with a wooden bench tucked beneath it, a fallen petal trail on the path and a watering can resting against the stone, all set in a painted garden at dusk.
Give this page five minutes: paint it as shown, skip adding anything extra, and let the pressed botanicals carry the whole spread on their own.
Dried rose petals fill a shallow ceramic bowl, with a small spoon, a folded handkerchief and a thin trail of loose petals scattered across the table around it.
Couples and Courtship
Two swans curve their necks together on still water, their shapes forming a heart, with lily pads, a weeping willow and soft ripples painted across the rest of the pond.
Picture a couple mid-step beneath a glowing lamp on a quiet cobbled street, then this page only needs one line from you: where that dance actually happened, real or imagined.
A checkered blanket holds a basket, two teacups and a small bunch of wildflowers, with a rowboat drifting on the lake behind it and a soft tree line painted along the far shore.
Two figures shelter under one striped umbrella on a rainy street corner, their shoes catching puddle reflections, while shop lights and rain streaks fill the painted background behind them.
This spread works best next to the lace tablecloth pattern later in the set: use that paper as the floor beneath this pair, so the dance looks grounded on something soft.
A folded love note slides under a wooden door, with a single rose laid beside it and a pair of worn shoes waiting just inside, the hallway painted in soft morning light.
Home and Table
A small round table is set for two with a candle, two wine glasses and a single rose in a narrow vase, a folded napkin and soft curtains painted in the background behind the scene.
A small glass dish is heaped with pastel conversation hearts, a few spilling onto the lace tablecloth beside it, with a teaspoon and a folded doily resting near the edge of the page.
This page earns its keep if you tuck a short menu or a list of favourite sweets beside it, the kind of thing you would actually hand someone on the day itself.
Two mismatched teacups sit on saucers with a small teapot between them, a sugar bowl and a few biscuits nearby, painted on a lace tablecloth with soft window light behind the table.
Red and pink tulips fill a weathered window box outside a shuttered cottage window, with a watering can and a small bird perched on the sill, the street painted softly behind.
A row of old glass perfume bottles stands on a mirrored tray, with a dried rose and a lace handkerchief tucked between them, soft reflected light painted across the mirror behind.
Keepsakes and Charms
An heirloom jewelry box sits open to show a heart locket and a string of pearls, with a folded letter tucked beneath the lid and soft shadow painted across the tabletop.
A small carved bow rests beside a quiver of arrows tipped with tiny painted hearts, a scattering of feathers and a ribbon trailing across the painted grass behind them.
One weathered brass key lies beside a small paper tag shaped like a heart, with a faded ribbon looped through both and a dusting of dried petals around them on the table.
Background Papers
A pale cameo brooch rests on folded dusty rose silk, with a strand of pearls curled beside it and a single pressed violet tucked at the edge of the page.
Small hearts and antique keys repeat in loose rows across the page, scaled for cutting into strips. Use it as a page border, a backing behind a photo, or the inside cover of the whole journal.
A fine lace doily motif repeats edge to edge in a soft, lightly textured pattern. Good behind a framed photo, as a lining for a flat pocket page, or as the base of a cover sheet.
Small sprays of roses and ribbon loops repeat in a toile style layout across the sheet. Works well as a journal cover, a divider between sections, or backing paper behind a heavier scene page.
Faint overlapping lines of cursive script run across the page like layered old letters, with tiny hearts scattered between the lines. Use it under a photo of handwriting, or as a soft cover texture.
Lined Writing Pages
A soft gingham check repeats across the page with a tiny heart stitched into every fourth square. Good as a picnic themed backing, a pocket lining, or the base of a recipe or menu page.
Write a short letter to someone you love, a list of reasons you chose them, or a line about the day you met. The border keeps small painted envelopes and a trailing ribbon along the top edge.
Jot a Valentine’s menu, a gift list, or a memory of a rose someone once gave you. Clusters of small red roses sit in each corner with thin green stems trailing toward the center lines.
Use the lines for a love letter to next year, a wish list for the season, or a note tucked away to reread later. A garland of small hearts strung on thread runs along the top border.
Record a favourite date, a quote someone once said to you, or a short list of things you love about the season. A narrow band of lace detail runs down the left side of the page.
Write down a secret kept, a promise made, or a small key moment from the relationship you are documenting. A single key tied with ribbon sits in the lower corner of the page.
What to Do Next
Print the full set, let the ink dry flat overnight, then trim and sort the pages by group before you start gluing anything into the journal itself. For more romantic paper ideas, browse the Valentines Doodles collection or the Vintage Junk Journal kit for pages that mix well with this one.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for a valentines junk journal kit like this one?
Matte cardstock around 160 to 200 gsm holds the soft watercolour washes well and takes glue without curling. Avoid glossy photo paper, since it resists glue and ink smudges on it more easily. If you want the pages to feel thinner and more letter-like, a heavier matte printer paper also works for the lined and background sheets.
What printer settings give the best colour on these pages?
Choose your printer’s best or photo quality setting rather than draft or normal, since the washes rely on smooth gradients. Select matte or plain cardstock as the paper type if your printer offers it, and turn off any automatic sharpening or vivid colour boost so the muted palette stays soft and true.
What size should I print the pages for a standard junk journal?
Most home journals use A5 or a trimmed half letter size, so print at full page on A4 or US letter and trim down. Print one test page first, measure it against your journal covers, and adjust the paper size in your print dialog before running the full set of 36.
Can I color or decorate these pages further after printing?
Yes, colored pencils and fine liner pens work well over the matte cardstock for adding handwriting, initials or small extra details. Keep heavy wet media like markers or watercolour away from the printed areas, since they can reactivate the ink and smear the soft washes underneath.
What glue is safe for assembling these pages into a journal?
An acid free glue stick is the safest choice, since it will not wrinkle the cardstock or yellow the paper over time. Avoid liquid craft glue on full sheets, as it tends to warp the page; save it for small embellishments instead.
