Table of Contents
This italy junk journal kit gives you 31 pages built around the country’s most loved corners: lemon groves on the Amalfi coast, gondolas on a quiet Venice canal, a Tuscan villa ringed by cypress trees and a Roman piazza with its fountain. Twenty two scene pages each show a different subject, then four seamless background papers in lemon and tile patterns, then five lined writing pages with painted borders for your own notes.
Print everything on matte cardstock heavy enough to take glue without buckling, set your printer to its best or highest quality setting, and trim each sheet to your journal size before you start gluing pages in. One pass through the whole set gives you a complete, ready to assemble Italy journal with no object floating on bare paper anywhere.
Using these images: free for personal projects such as printing, coloring, cards, journals and gifts. Handmade items that include them may be sold up to 30 pieces per design. More than that is commercial use and is not permitted, and neither is selling or sharing the images themselves or passing them off as your own. Please ask before any other use.
Amalfi Coast Pages
A terraced lemon grove tumbles down toward the sea, the fruit heavy on every branch and the water bright beyond the last row of trees.
Tuck in a ferry ticket stub or a folded napkin from a seaside cafe here, right along the lower edge where the boats are painted smallest.
A page like this holds small paper scraps well because the busy harbor detail hides the glue line. Leave a thin strip of blank water near the bottom if you plan to add anything later.
Pair this one with the lemon and tile pattern page later in the set, using the pattern as a facing page so the two lemon motifs sit across from each other.
The usual mistake with a quiet table scene is leaving too much empty stone around it. Here the climbing vine, the citrus bowl and the distant cliff keep every corner filled.
Venice Canal Pages
A single gondola glides past leaning buildings with lamplight starting to glow in a window above the water, painted in the soft hour before full dark.
Write the name of a canal you have crossed, or one you hope to see, along the worn planks of the yard painted at the bottom of the page.
This page suits the five minute version well: paint only the bridge arch and the water beneath it loosely, letting the stone blur into soft reflection rather than detailing every brick.
Glue a small photo of a mask or costume here, sized to sit inside the shop window frame painted on the page.
Place this page beside the Venice canal at dusk scene, matching the daylight flower boxes here against the lamplit water on the earlier page for a morning to evening spread.
Tuscan Countryside Pages
A stone villa with shuttered windows sits at the top of a gravel drive, flanked by tall dark cypress trees and rolling gold hills painted behind the roofline.
Record the date and the name of a wine you tasted on this page, or leave the space blank for whichever harvest memory you add later.
Tear the right edge of this page roughly by hand before gluing it in, so the pale trunks of the olive trees seem to fade into the torn paper rather than stop at a clean line.
Set out a loaf of bread, a wedge of cheese and a jug of oil on a rough wooden table, with a window open to the hills painted behind it.
Good for the gift journal of a reader planning a summer trip: this field reads as pure anticipation, full of color and open road rather than a specific memory.
Rome City Pages
A stone fountain throws up a thin arc of water at the center of a busy piazza, pigeons scattered across the cobbles and old buildings painted close around the square.
What would you tell someone standing here for the first time. Write the answer across the lower half of this page, under the ancient arches painted above the lines.
A carved sea god rises from tumbling stone and water at the center of the fountain, coins glinting faintly beneath the surface and the fountain’s grand facade painted close behind.
This page works well as a window: cut a small oval opening before gluing it in and let a coin shaped sticker or a round photo show through from the page beneath.
List three things you would order at a counter like this one, right along the marble top painted at the base of the page.
Pots of pink azaleas line the wide stone steps from bottom to top, a church facade crowning the climb and rooftops painted spreading out below.
Keep this page simple on purpose: a bare stone threshold like this invites a short entry rather than a long one, so leave more open space near the base than on busier pages.
Market and Table Pages
A striped awning shades crates of figs, melons and peaches stacked at a market stall, a handwritten price sign tucked among the fruit and a busy street painted behind the stall.
Write out a family recipe or the ingredients for tonight’s dinner along the lower edge of this page. For more plated food ideas to pair with it, see these easy watercolor food ideas.
Background Papers
An open bottle of red wine stands beside a wedge of cheese and a cluster of grapes on a checked cloth, a hillside view painted softly behind the small spread.
Use this under a photo of the coast, as a lining behind a pocket of ticket stubs, or as a cover page for the whole journal, since the lemon and tile motifs repeat in the kit’s muted rose and sage palette.
Place this behind a Venice photo, line the inside cover with it, or cut strips from it to border other pages, since the striped poles repeat steadily across the whole sheet.
Good under a Tuscany photo, as a pocket lining, or folded into a simple cover, since the small roof tiles tessellate without a single focal point anywhere on the page.
Lined Writing Pages
Use this behind a formal photo, as a journal cover, or as a lining for a pressed leaf, since the olive branches mirror in a classic damask repeat across the sheet.
Write a packing list, a coastal drive itinerary, or a letter to next year’s traveler across these lines, framed by a corner spray of lemons and leaves.
Use this page for a gondola ride memory, a list of bridges crossed, or a short poem about the water, bordered by a thin band of striped poles down one side.
Fit a wine tasting list, a vineyard visit date, or a note about the harvest onto these lines, framed by a row of cypress trees along the bottom edge.
Write a fountain wish, a menu from a trattoria, or directions back to a favorite piazza on these lines, set inside a frame of tiny carved stone details.

Frequently Asked Questions
What paper works best for these pages?
Matte cardstock around 65 to 100 lb holds the washes well without curling once glued. Plain printer paper works for a test print but tends to wrinkle under glue, so save it for drafts and print the final set on cardstock.
What printer settings give the best colour?
Choose your printer’s best or photo quality setting and select the matte or heavyweight paper option if your printer offers one. This slows the print slightly but keeps the washes soft instead of streaky, matching the painted look of the original pages.
What size should I print the pages at?
Print at full page size on letter or A4 paper, then trim to match your journal. A standard junk journal page runs smaller than a printed sheet, so trim evenly on all sides rather than cutting only one edge down.
Can I colour or add to these pages myself?
Yes. A light wash of watered down paint, a few colored pencil touches, or a fine pen for extra detail all sit well on top once the ink has dried fully. Keep any additions light so the original scene still reads clearly underneath.
Do I need special glue to add these to a journal?
A standard acid free glue stick works for gluing full sheets in cleanly without wrinkling the paper. Liquid glue tends to soak through thinner cardstock and warp it, so save liquid glue for small paper scraps rather than whole pages.
