32 Free Peter Rabbit Junk Journal Pages and Ideas From Mr. McGregor’s Garden

Peter rabbit junk journal ideas give you a whole garden’s worth of pages without touching a paintbrush. This kit has 22 scene pages following Peter and his friends from the gate at Mr. McGregor’s garden to the warm kitchen at home, 5 seamless background papers for covers and fill pages, and 5 lined writing pages for diary entries, lists and letters.

Print the whole set on heavyweight matte paper, at least 24 lb, so the washes stay soft and the ink does not bleed through. Set your printer to its best or photo quality and let the sheets rest a minute before handling. Trim to your journal size with scissors or a paper cutter, then glue or stitch the pages in as you like.

Into Mr McGregor’s Garden

Peter squeezes under the old wooden gate with his blue jacket catching on a nail, the garden wall and a row of cabbages waiting beyond.

Give this page a job before you glue it in: tuck a small paper seed packet label beside Peter or jot the date of your own first spring planting in the corner.

Pair this page with the Carrots and Garden Tools pattern later in this set: use the pattern as a facing page so the watering can scene sits against a busy border instead of plain cream.

Peter crouches inside a large tin watering can, only his ears and one paw showing, with onions and a sun hat resting nearby.

The usual mistake here is making Mr McGregor the whole page, which turns a Beatrix Potter scene into a plain portrait. Keep him small and distant, raking between rows, so the garden still feels bigger than he is.

One small blue shoe sits stuck in the cabbage patch mud and the other hangs from a pea stick, with Peter’s bare paw prints leading off toward the gooseberry net.

Family In The Hedgerow

Write a short answer on this page: which of the three sisters would you have been as a child, the careful one, the quick one or the one who ate the berries before they reached the basket.

Benjamin Bunny stands proudly in his tam-o’-shanter and clogs, a handkerchief bundle of onions over one shoulder, pausing at the edge of a bramble patch.

For the five minute version, trace only the outline of Old Mr Bunny and his pipe smoke, skip the background foliage entirely and let the cream paper stand in as a plain sky instead.

Four small rabbits burrow at the base of a tall fir tree, their sandy home half hidden by roots, ferns and a scattering of fallen pine needles.

Fireside At Home

Mrs Rabbit pours camomile tea by the hearth while a kettle warms and Peter sits wrapped in a blanket on a low stool nearby.

Glue a small folded paper note under the quilt corner, a line Mrs Rabbit might have left for Peter, so the page holds a tiny hidden message when the journal is closed.

Jars of jam, strings of onions and a row of blue and white china line the kitchen dresser, with a basket of eggs waiting on the lowest shelf.

Flour dust still sits on the table when you glue this one in, so pair it with the lined Recipe Keeping page later in the set and copy your own bread recipe beside it.

Friends Of The Garden

Jemima Puddle-Duck waddles along a muddy path in her blue bonnet and shawl, a basket over one wing, past a pond fringed with reeds.

The usual mistake with a washing line page is leaving the background bare behind the clothes. Paint a soft green hillside and distant cottage roofs behind Mrs Tiggy-Winkle so the line has somewhere to hang.

Squirrel Nutkin perches on an old oak branch gathering nuts, his red tail curled high, with acorns and fallen leaves scattered on the ground below.

This page is a good fit for a reader making the journal as a gift for a child learning the stories for the first time, since the small kitten and his lost buttons are easy to spot and talk about together.

Garden Corners And Still Life

A cracked terracotta pot, a ball of twine, a rusted trowel and a row of seed packets fill the shelf inside Mr McGregor’s potting shed.

Place this one across from the Peter At The Garden Gate scene at the front of your journal, so the story opens with the gate and then turns the page straight into the garden Peter was trying to reach.

A scarecrow wears Peter’s lost blue jacket over its straw frame, buttons still fastened, standing crooked among the cabbages it was meant to guard.

Fold this page gently along the centre before gluing it flat, so a faint crease shows, as if Peter carried Mrs Rabbit’s note folded in his jacket pocket on the way home.

Moss creeps over a stone sundial standing at the centre of a quiet herb bed, rosemary and lavender growing close around its worn base.

Background Papers

Carrots, trowels and twine spools scatter across this one in soft repeat, good under a photo of your own garden, lining a cover page or filling a gap between chapters.

A soft gingham check in Peter’s jacket blue sits behind a scatter of tiny radish leaves, suited to a cover, a pocket lining or a divider before the lined pages.

Small paw prints wander in loose rows across this page, a quiet choice behind a portrait photo or as the inside cover facing your title page.

Overlapping cabbage leaves in soft layered rounds fill this sheet, useful as a garden chapter divider or tucked behind a pressed leaf you have kept from your own garden.

Trailing bramble stems with small berries and leaves repeat in a loose all over design, a soft fit under a photo from a hedgerow walk or along a journal cover.

Lined Writing Pages

Use these lines for what you planted this week, a weather note from the garden, or the date Peter first appeared in your own reading of the tale.

Write a short letter here addressed to Peter or Benjamin, a note to a younger reader, or a line about a garden you loved as a child.

Copy a camomile tea recipe, a bread recipe like Mrs Rabbit’s, or a short list of what to bring on a picnic in the garden.

Note names and small gifts for a Beatrix Potter themed gift exchange, a list of books to pass on to a child, or names for new rabbits in a story of your own.

Record a memory of a real garden, a relative who kept rabbits, or the first time you read about Peter squeezing under that gate.

What to Do Next

Print the pages you love most first, start with the gate scene and the fireside tea, and let the rest of the garden fill in around them as your journal grows. Frequently Asked Questions

What paper works best for these Peter Rabbit pages?

Use a matte cardstock around 24 to 32 lb so the washes print softly without curling or showing through. Avoid glossy photo paper, since it fights the watercolor look and makes gluing harder. Cream or warm white stock suits the vintage palette best.

What printer settings give the softest colours?

Choose your printer’s best or photo quality setting and select matte or plain paper in the driver, not glossy photo mode. Turn off any automatic sharpening or vivid color boost if your printer offers it, since that flattens the soft washes into harder, brighter tones.

What size should I print the pages for my journal?

Most home journals run close to A5 or a standard half letter size, so scale the printable pages down from the full sheet in your print dialog and trim to fit. Keep a small margin before trimming so no detail gets cut at the edge.

Do I need to colour or add anything to these pages?

No, every page prints complete in full colour and is ready to glue straight in. You can add handwriting on the lined pages or jot a date or note in a corner of a scene page if you like, but nothing extra is required.

How do I fit 32 pages into one small journal?

Not every page needs a spot in the same journal. Choose the scenes that fit your favourite parts of the stories, use two or three backgrounds for covers and fill pages, and save the rest for a second journal or gift copy later.
